Exactly the island is so far from Singapore, and much nearer to Malaysia.
It's under the Johore at the 18 century. However, the British later put it under Singapore administration, that's why its under Singapore now.
And to be Frank, do it make sense for Singapore to maintain the
island?

(1) Why Hawaii and Guam is part of USA? They are thousand miles away - must as well give it up.
(2) Why HK and Macau is part of China? Must as well give it up.
USA and China - will send their aircraft carriers to whack anyone that infringe their Sovereignty.
Even if Singapore is small - we will do the same if anyone infringe our Sovereignty.

Pedra Branca play an important role for the safe passage of many ships passing through the South China Sea and the Straits of Malacca :-
(1) Lighthouse - are used to guide the ships (as there are many treacherous rocks and reefs - that will sink the ships if not guided.)
(2) Radar - are installed in the island to guide ships moving in and out of the busy Straits to prevent collision and accidents.
(3) Naval communication equipment - are installed to communicate with ships.
(4) Solar panel - are installed as energy sources - to power the electricity in the island.
(5) Water desalination plant - to provide water to the island.
(6) Helipad - for air supply of food or equipment or people transport.

And all the equipment are installed by Singapore.

For M action, SG is now force to record all our sea-land on paper. Of cause M will create other problem for SG until he goes 6 feet underground. But then he may flood SG from underground with water at 3 sen per gallon.

Based on GE 2015 electoral map, all Southern offshore Islands including Jurong Island and Sentosa under West Coast GRC. Not sure which island allocated to which seat. By default, anchor minister S Iswaran can be considered as MP of all Southern offshore Islands unless specified otherwise.
