this submarine is probably most useful if singapore as a strong allied nation of US is called upon to war with China at the south china sea... otherwise our Navy no matter how strong is totally useless even against a single malaysia illegal vessel in singapore water. i therefore urge sg govt to besides spending money on top notch and expensive defence technologies, most important is able to engage friendly diplomacy with our neigbours.

Singapore will not participate in any US military action against China nor will Singapore participate in any China military action against US.
For a simple reason, Singapore is both friendly to both US and China - and is a strong investment and trading partners to both SuperPowers.
Singapore will always try to arbitrate between US and China - to ensure that both will never come to blow.
Singapore will never want to fight in a war and always strive to maintain a friendly relationship with any Countries.
But Singapore must always guard against anyone who have hostile or evil intents against us.

We have to be mindful the neighbor up north is not intruding our water with just one civilian vessel.
It has a conventional navy that has vessels armed with missiles and torpedoes - such as their missile gunboats, 2 submarines and frigates - armed with exocet sea skimming missiles.
They are also building a few stealth frigates with France that have longer range sea skimming and anti-air missiles.
Though our airforce and stealth frigates can overcome them - there are still some risk.
Our submarines will be the best assets to engage their gunboats, submarine and frigate - with almost no risk.

With our AWACs and satellite, we can track their navy at long range and our airforce and frigates can strike them at long range before they detect us - as they do not have long range early warning system.
But as our air assets and navy are above surface - there is still a possibility of engaging in a shooting game - though our frigates have anti-missile capabilities and our airforce have countermeasure to stop their missiles --- there are still some risk involved.
With our submarines that can detect their naval assets at long range and with stealth - we can destroy their naval assets without being detected - and they have no chance to even fire 1 shot.

Ricky Lim lol you keep boasting about that lucky undetected submarine. The purpose of that exercise is to practice detection of (PRC) subs in deep water, not to practice sub capability. They already knew 1 or 2 will get away, and our sub happens to be the lucky one!

The angmohs will keep away this real goodie and continue selling the junk subs to your white bosses, knowing jolly well how your white bosses love boasting about spending $100 to defend against a $1 attack 😹 Everyone knows Singapore is a 2-headed snake, why will anyone sell the real goodies to us? Have we not been very diplomatic to those Bodohs from the North? We spend for internal security external defence. We know jolly well those Bodohs under the leadership of that 93 year old snake just cannot be trusted at all. When Najib was the PM there never a single disputre at all.
