"wisdom before wealth."
--
This is a party that campaign on "no National Service" - at the last GE.
If vote for this party - the old hat from the North will have gobble us up, rape us, and machine gun us and chop our head by now.
Still say "wisdom before wealth."?
Totally no wisdom.

"rights come before riches, people before profit"
---
Means use up all our reserves, start unsustainable social benefits, bankrupt our Nation, start selling all the assets acquire by the Sovereign Fund, allow people to do demonstration on the street, focus less on economy, business and jobs - but allow people plenty of freedom of speeches - talk more do less, human rights, more hunger strike etc.
Very soon, Singapore will have less and less money to build infrastructure, less money for defence (and let tormentor - gobble us up), less investment coming into Singapore (because more focus on human rights and less focus on Economy, business and jobs), less money for sustainable welfare benefits (due to poor Economy) === and Singapore and Singaporeans will be doom.

A strong professional regular army is sufficient to defend and deter any enemy.
There is no need for conscripted army.

Tommie Vale -
If you want Singapore to be a full time soldier :-
(1) A professional army - assume salary $5,000 a month - will have cost the Government S$78 billion a year for a 1.3 million standing army on salary only = Soldier salary almost cost total Government budget in 2018.
(2) Even for half a million troop (not counting standdown) - will cost S$30.3 billion per year in salary - about 40% of the whole Government budget for a professional army - can we sustain a regular army?

Taiwan again delays plan to scrap conscription

Military fails to recruit enough people despite boosting professional soldiers' pay
Taiwan has delayed its plan to scrap conscription for the second time, as the military battles with poor recruitment numbers and a string of blunders.

Now Singapore defense budget is only of 14.76 billion SGD --- about 18% of Government Budget (Percent of GDP 3.2% (FY2017)) - comprising NS men.
Yet we have the most impressive military assets in Navy, Airforce and Army and well-trained Armed Forces - a credible defence force.

Even if we have big budget to pay regular soldier salary - and we can recruit 520,000 Singaporean males.
Then Singapore have enough people to run the Economy?

In GMI (Global Militarisation Index) top 6 highest rank in the World - 6 are conscripted army supported by sophisticated military assets :-
Rank 1 - Israel
Rank 2 - Singapore
Rank 3 - Armenia (hybrid of professional + conscript)
Rank 4 - Cyprus
Rank 5 - South Korea
Rank 6 - Russia
Why?
Because if we spend too much money paying salary of soldier - then we don't have money to buy military assets.
With no money for weapons - how to fight?
That is why China reduce the standing army of 3 million to about 2 million and focus more on developing and buying weapons.
This is just plain common sense.
This SDP don't have --- still can say "wisdom before wealth" woh .
SDP - wisdom don't have, wealth also don't have (based on their policy - Singapore wealth will vanish in just 1 term).

They don't even know the inside out of Singapore but talk how to run. Let them run a GRC first and see what turns out, not to mention Singapore .

i am not debating on having wholely pro armyt or not. You seem to be good with and at numbers. if we remain status quo, that is, ptro and NS plus reservist, how much would it come to cost us?

Luigi Liew - In 2019, S$15.5 billion, In 2018 -S$14.8 billion.
And we have one of the most sophisticated army armed with State-of-the-Art military assets and a well-trained operational ready Armed Forces.

Honestly speaking, Dr Tan Cheng Bock is a ex-MP.
As MP is different from Minister - wonder what is his platform - on how to govern Singapore?
We did not heard anything from Dr Tan Cheng Bock yet.
How do voters know whether his party can do a better job?

Ricky Lim .....Based on the President Election result, Dr Tan just lost by a few thousands votes. That shown he got a strong support from the voters, especially in western side. Voters know how to discern that, people may NOT care whether he is an ex-MP or minister.
Tan Kwong Moh
Tun Osman .... Voters know how to judge this, not you and me can make a decision. Based on majority.....
Tan Kwong Moh
Georgie Lee .....Is it cos he couldn't stand for President Election? How the people look at it, next GE's result will tell us....
Ricky Lim
Tan Kwong Moh - Then this is dangerous.
If voters don't care whether a candidate or its Party can govern or not - then voters will vote in a Government that will cause the Nation to be misgovern - and cause miseries to the people.
That means people vote based on emotion - not by logic or sanity.
This is what is happening to many Government changes in the World currently.
So far I am not convince that Dr Tan Cheng Bock can govern without a platform to convince voters that it can do a better job than the PAP.
Don't forget he is an ex-MP under PAP.
Who don't know how to oppose for the sake of opposing - it is just riding on the discontentment of some voters to win votes - not based on his merit or competency that he can govern.
Then why should people entrust their lives, livelihood and their dependents on someone or some party - that has not proven it can govern?
Throughout his tenure of MP - have you heard of any concrete policy that benefitted the people proposed by him in the Parliament?

Ricky Lim ......Don't worry, he and his party will come out with the platform and let voters to decide. Voters want to vote for him or not is another matter..People are educated nowadays, know how to discern and judge. Is not based on emotion....You don't vote for him, but others will. Simple as that, and majority will win....As I said, not you and can decide....

As long as CSJ is still in the party, the party will not be able to make any progress. He is the baggage.

As long as Chee is at the helm, very difficult to win any seat. Character in question. But Tambyah is a credible guy, who should have joined TCB & got better chance....

All I ask from the oppostition is simple. I will vote for any party that can achieve the following in parliamant and sign into law.
1. 0% GST.
2. Return CPF at 55.
1. 0% GST.
2. Return CPF at 55.
Tan Kwong Moh
If the GST can reduce to 3% is good enough. But pap is going to increase it.

Benjamin Lim, if all the parties commit to meet your objective, you have problem deciding which party you will vote. But remember politicians' promises can easily be broken after GE!

The old hat up North - promise to abolish all GST in Malaysia.
Then boast to the World - that Singapore should follow his style.
When win election, Government no budget - introduce sales and service tax.
Now discover, Government not enough money and high debt --- start selling assets in the Sovereign Fund.
Go around borrow money - eg. Samurai Bond of few billion dollars.
Cancel China projects.
Force Singapore to pay more on water.
