Not impressed at all. Just how many 1 star, 2 star and 3 star pseudo generals and admirals we have in the whole SAF? Anybody knows.? A bit too many I think. Top heavy SAF not good for defence. All will want to stay in bunker and keep safe and push the rest to go out and face off with enemy.

Joanna Chia - I think you know nothing about our Air force to make such a comment.

Our airforce is the most advanced in SE Asia - and has the largest air assets, the most sophisticated with awesome firepower.

Our airforce is also very well trained and has performed very well with many top-notch air force in the World - such as the USAF airforce, France, India, Australia, New Zealand etc.

And we have the most sophisticated air defense and C-RAM - that only very few advanced armed forces in the World possess - and there is no chance our tormentor can threaten us with their military assets.

Because of our Airforce - we can stand tall and face up to Malaysia's provocation - with confident without flinching - and will not hesitate to act if the old hat trample on our Sovereignty and our Existence.

Because of their contribution, it help to protect every Singaporeans' lives (including your lives) - and the tormentor up north has declared that our Military are too powerful for them.

Tell us what do you know about our air force to make such comments?
You make yourself look very silly with your comments.

And your comments have done great injustice to these people who have made important contribution to our National Defense and National Security.

And you probably is not even aware that Singapore rank 2nd in the World in Global Militarisation Index - surpassing SuperPowers like US, Russia, China and India.

That means in terms of :-
(1) Defense budget efficiency
(2) Military effectiveness
(3) Firepower density
(4) Military density per land space and population space
(5) Millitary asset acquisition to defend the Country
(6) Armed Forces strength
(7) Military training
(8) Military deployment, logistics, maintenance
(9) Armed forces ability to perform and achieve their mission in wargames, exercise etc.

--- are rated and rank - and we perform very well.

Frank Kam - If she knows, she talk, and she can justify with good arguments or facts --- then we will respect what she say - even though her opinion can be different from us.

The problem is she don't know, anyhow talk, talk without facts and basis - and compromise our Security --- then we need to prove her wrong convincingly.

To win a war, it is not necessary a General need to have war experience.
A General need to have brain, wisdom and intelligence especially in art of war - with plenty of training and wargames and military exercise firing live rounds hitting the target to hone in the skill.

Many examples of famous Generals with no war experience - but win battles and wars.
(1) Israel has no war experience when 6 countries attack it simultaneously - and during that war - Israel beat all of them.

(2) 孔明 诸葛亮 - is a wise scholar but who read intensely in art of war. But when he is called upon as military advisor - he plan many beautiful battleplan and help his emperor won many battles against stronger enemy troops.

(3) A Vietcong General - with no war experience plan against the battle against its colony France who have stronger and better equipped army and the same General later win against US army in the Vietnam war.

There are many examples.

If our Generals can perform very well in many International wargames and war exercises, rank very well in many Global military independent analysis --- we stood very well if we need to fight against anyone who dare to trample on our "Right of Existence" or "Our Sovereignty" !

One good example :-

Singapore has no war experience - but perform very well when our Commandos are called upon to rescue hostages taken by armed terrorists with bomb on our SIA plane.

(1) One of our SIA plane is taken over by some terrorists and landed in Changi Airport.

(2) Our Ministers and senior Government officials try to negotiate for many hours with the terrorists who are armed with bombs and knives.

(3) Our Commandos get ready to storm the plane when the terrorists threaten to blow up the plane.

(4) When the talk breakdown, our Ministers gave the order for the Commandos to storm the planes, who kill all the terrorists and all hostages rescue (with no casaulties).

Our Army has no war experience - but this episode where our Army Commandos execute the hostage rescue from seasoned terrorists --- prove that our Army training are realistic and will provide good outcome if call upon to execute their mission.

Same for our Airforce, Navy and Army --- as long as we take our military training, wargames and war exercises seriously and achieve good results - in time of needs, our Armed Forces can deliver !

Ricky Lim is spot on on all these events. They proved that meticulous planning and tough, realistic and dedicated training (not necessarily war experience) produce skillful soldiers, airmen and seamen. ..all are warriors for Singapore's wellbeing and defence.

I convincingly speak from my 32-year miltary career experience in the Republic of Singapore Air Force of which I was a founding member in 1968. Our Pioneer and Merdeka generations had weathered through countless storms and close shaves to produce Singapore what it is today - a secured home where Singaporeans have peaceful sleep.

Let's not criticise on the face value of the news but go to the dept of the news before criticising. The proverb "Empty vessels make the most noise" ( Google it) aptly describes such people.

I believe Ricky Lim also has many years of military experience in the Singapore Armed Forces and was my fellow brother-at-arms in those crucial years of nation building.

I salute all fellow Singaporean warriors, past and present, for building up our national security and keeping our home safe.

Pls change back their uniform and have their strips carried over their shoulder instead of hanging infront of their chest. Those stripes are to be shouldered not hanging like a onarment.

Do you know the difference between the No 3 uniform and the No 4 uniform of the Singapore Armed Forces? If you do, you will know why the rank insignia is in the chest in the above photos.

Leo Boon, do you know both used to had it on their shoulder?

When soldiers put on their full pack or wear their SBO - they will cover the ranks on the officers' shoulders when in field operation.

If put in front of the shirt - soldiers can see the ranks of the officers.

This is vital in live operation - when the field rank determine the appointment he is holding and all the command under him need to follow his instruction during field and live operation.
