Buildings were constructed in supposedly auspicious locations and many temples set up in hilly areas, in line with the traditional Korean reverence for mountains and the Zen focus on meditation in a calm environment.

Please don't buy in into an overpriced and underperforming project. If it is bad and still buy, highly likely the purpose is to grease someone's palms.

There is no other choice than F35. That the only newest and latest. Otherwise you are paying for outdated aircraft. We can't buy FC-31 due to policial reasons.

Every successful fighter plane has gone thru teething and gestational challenges. The fact that we have yet to commit means we will stand to receive the most updated variants with less issues. The A and B variants are relevant to us.

SAF don't ask for a big budget when there is a need to acquire new platform.

SAF budget like all Ministries budget are consistently kept at certain % of the entire Government fiscal budget every year --- and it is through this budget that are used to finance new platform and new acquisition.

You can be quite sure that Singapore is getting French fighter planes. That's why the PM is GOH for Bastille Day.

You can be quite sure that Singapore is getting America F35s. That's why the POTUS is visiting again in Nov.

So what is going to happen to all the old hardware which was the top of the range not long ago? Are they going to be sold to our enemies or in the blackmarket? What about all the ammo that goes with it? Why is there no accountability on the part of govs when it comes to defence and buying arms and weapons. Who or what are we trying to kill so badly. Govs drive their people to the ground to work so hard to collect taxes and go spend the money on arms that cost billions of dollars. What a waste of money? Now we will go on a spending spree again. This is madness and like an obession for bigger guns and we will stinge on giving to our most deserving citizens the basic necessities.

Have you forgotten that Japanese invaders invade Singapore and make everyone a slave?
Have you forgotten ISIS invade Philippines malawi and run the whole city into ruin?
Have you forgotten that our Sovereignty need to be safeguarded - in case we are threatened by anyone that want to infringe our Sovereignty?

You should not be so shortsighted ---- as National Security is not decided by you - as you are not able to understand the security risk that Singapore face.

If your Country is invaded - forget about your house, your gst, your lives - because you have no life to enjoy it.

Security is paramount above all else.

this is just the Announcement phase, by the time the new replacement is here in Singapore, it will be decades from 2018, around 2030, so its not like they are ditching the F-16 in 2018 or 2019.

We have to constantly upgrade cos environment around us can change anytime. There is no way we can control how other "people" feel or like about us. Yes, we count our blessing during better times but have to prepare for time like this. 50 years of being a small country, we know how it feel to be surrounded.

Old planes and equipment are usually sold to friendly countries. If I am not wrong, the Thai Airforce bought some of the F16's we had retired a decade or two ago.

Ricky Lim Your reasoning is straight from the gov textbook and their brainwashing. But you missed my point. Violence has not solved anything and it never will. Just like us others too can buy better and more deadly weapons.

Temasek Green - try talking to a terrorist with your bare hands.
try to protect your soverignty with hand and stick - like in WW2 when Japanese invaders invade us?
People will not touch you if we are strong - but if you slack and if you are complacent - you will be sure that you will get whack good and proper.

When we are strong, we don't bully others. But we must stay strong so that others will not bully us.

For National Security - it is not for you or me to comment - as all you have no information about the Country security risks.

National security - has no compromise - as it is about life or death of the whole Nation.

In Iraq, ISIS perform a lightning strike against its more numerical superior but poorly trained and equipped Iraq forces and invade a large tract of land just in a matter of days and weeks.

In Philippines malawi, ISIS militants infiltrate it and a matter of days and weeks occupied the whole area - where security are caught off guard.

In Indonesia, ISIS suddenly launch multiple bombings and shooting in Jakarta and other cities - and the Indonesia security are caught off guard.

In Ukraine, Russia launch a surprise lightning strike and capture Crimea in a matter of days.

Do you want to have more examples of such security breaches due to complacency?

National Security is not your domain - and you should not suggest something that put the whole Nation and everyone's lives at risk ---- especially you are not endowed with the responsibilities to handle the Nation security.

Ricky Lim I don't need your garbed history lesson and neither are you a historian. Your facts are vague at best and you still still choose to ignore my point which is your choice or being naive. Anyone is free to voice their view here, experts and novices just like you. National security is neither your domain nor mine, so stop pretending to give to rave about it. I am not interested in being a national security expert or given responsibilities on it, that is not my field, but that does not mean I cannot talk about it. You will never convince me with your version of facts on this matter and vice versa. So it ends here.

Temasek Green - good that you have admitted National Security is not your responsibility and not your domain.

It is the Ministry of Defense domain, their judgement and their responsibilities.

This is what i want to hear.
