Will the highway and roads be suddenly blocked and secured like the last time when the US president visited Spore? Many will be inconvenienced and I was stucked in traffic for 2 hours. Better don’t come Spore; no value add

Actually if the Summit is held in Sentosa - then it will be easy to protect and secure.
Also it will not choke up the city traffic.

Sentosa also have very posh convention centre, hotel and nice sea view.
Also think that Sentosa has helipad for landing.

Only need to secure the Sentosa gateway (1 main road).
Can also be surrounded by warships for quick exit.
Or can be helipad to Changi Airport.

When Trump Air Force 1 and Kim Airplane land in Changi Airport - 3 possible path to reach Sentosa :-
(1) Limousine land route - via east cost to nicholl highway to Keppel to Sentosa.
(2) Warship to Sentosa
(3) Heliborne from Changi Airport to Sentosa.

The area around Shangri-La Hotel Singapore has been designated as a special event area for the upcoming summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
This was announced in a public order published in the Government Gazette online on Sunday (Jun 3). Extra security measures will be in force for the period between Jun 10 and 14.
Other locations that have been mentioned as possibilities include The Fullerton Hotel in the Marina Bay area and Capella in Sentosa. There has been no confirmation of the venue for the summit.

So look like Shangri-La is the chosen site for the Summit.

So why has the Capella been fully booked according to Bloomberg reports? The distance from Capella to Shangri-la is congested and needs to cross a bridge if the US delegation is just staying in Capella. The navy will have to be involved to guarantee security for the trip between Capella and Shangri-la.

Maybe the Sentosa hotel is for backup?
Maybe if the event take more than 1 day - it may happen in Shangri-La in 1 day and another day in Sentosa?
Maybe it is classified where the Summit will eventually take place until 1 or 2 days before the event.

At the same time, a "pre-advance" US team was in Singapore to meet North Koreans.
In Singapore, a team of US officials, with a fleet of idling vehicles on standby, was at a hotel on the resort island of Sentosa but declined to comment.

Some news say Shangri-La is a possible site.
Strangely US team for advance recce is spotted on Sentosa.

Hm Hm ..... look like Shangri-La, Sentosa are possible sites ...... so the sites for the Summit are still not decided.

There's media speculation that North Korea would prefer the secluded island resort of Sentosa, located about 20 minutes from the city center, because of security reasons.

Mr Kemp noted that the summit would also position Singapore as having a “relatively inclusive” culture and society. “It’s really interesting that two countries that are, perhaps, at complete opposite ends of the spectrum around the world have chosen Singapore as the place where they both feel comfortable,” he said.
“I think that says a lot about what Singapore means to political leaders around the world.”
Mr Voedisch added that from a political standpoint, Singapore’s reputation as a “neutral and trustworthy” player on the international stage will also be enhanced. “Singapore can also play up the image of a positive peacemaker,” he said. “That’s an added value that can come out of that.”

Actually China got to ponder on a simple but extremely strategic question :-
(1) Does China want a trusted "bridge" between China with US and the West --- in time of tension?
(2) Does China want a trusted "bridge" between China with Taiwan - in time of tension?
(3) Does China want a trusted "bridge" between China with ASEAN - in time of tension?
The answer to these 3 questions - will help China to determine whether China will want to pressure and squeeze Singapore unnecessarily.
This is a strategic question that China want to consider and ponder very carefully - when it come a time there will be a mammoth confrontation between the East and West.
China will want to take a cue from the West and Russia confrontation in Aleppo - where there is "no trusted bridge" --- it has become a "killing field".

Once this "trusted bridge" is dismantled, it will be difficult to go back.
When a mammoth confrontation between East and West come ---- there will be "no trusted bridge" to go in between - to prevent a potential mammoth conflict.
China will have to ponder and think about this very carefully ---- because to Singapore, it is a very simple calculation :-
Singapore will calculate and add up the sum
(i) Economically, what is the best way we can survive and thrive
(ii) Security wise, what is the best way Singapore can be safe and secured.
With the above 2 calculation, Singapore will take a calculated risk ---- for the sake of National Interest.
But when the "trusted bridge for peace" is dismantled ---- it may work to the disadvantage to both China and US - should a mammoth confrontation arises - as miscalculation, miscomm, suspicion arises.
What ensue will be a World War 3.

Singapore in the past have :-
(1) Coax China to open up and achieve Economic integration with the World and prosper now - to become the 2nd World largest Economy in the World.
(2) Bridge China and Taiwan to resolve differences in Singapore 2015.
(3) Bridge China and US - to interact and stay engage from all level for the last few years.
(4) Bridge China and ASEAN to engage economically.
(5) Help China to develop Eco-city - starting with Suzhou, Tianjin and now Chongqing
--- so cannot imagine China will want to squeeze Singapore economically, squeeze our port activities and now even held our military assets.

And while hotels involved in the summit – whether host hotel Capella, or the hotels the foreign delegations will be staying at – will undoubtedly have its work cut out for them, hospitality experts noted that they will experience “priceless benefits”.
“If you are good enough for the President of the United States, then you’re good enough for anyone,” said Kevin Wee, a senior lecturer in hospitality and tourism management at Nanyang Polytechnic.
“Let’s say security-conscious billionaires want to book entire floors for their entourage,” he explained. “They might say that if Capella or Shangri-La have met the President’s needs, they should be able to meet your needs.”

People should not throw a cold blanket and not give N Korea a chance to reconcile. World should encourage them, coax them to come forward positively and not clobber them.

It is not easy for a State in isolation to come out and integrate with the World.

Khmer Rouge with more tragic past, when given a chance by China and Asean has helped Cambodia to emerge and join ASEAN.

Likewise China, Vietnam and Laos also have difficult history - and given chance are able to emerge and now do much better with glory success.

Eg.
(1) Khmer Rouge has unfortunate past history - where millions die in Cambodia.
But Cambodia has left behind the unfortunate past and join ASEAN - and now is in peace and prosper.

(2) Vietnam like Korea - have N Vietnam and S Vietnam fighting one another with hundred and thousands of death.
Like Cambodia, Vietnam has left behind the unfortunate past and join ASEAN - and now is in peace and prosper.

(3) China also have civil war, external war, revolution - that saw millions of death.
Now China is peaceful, economically strong and prosperous.

So if N Korea if given a chance to come out from isolation, walk on the path of denuclearisation - in exchange for Peace, Economic Development and World Integration ---- why not the World give them a chance, a path ?

That is obviously the fault with geopolitics. In the end, everything is a puppet show on the old school Capitalist vs. Communist. Remember, the cold war isn't exactly over. The way is see it is the current era is merely a pause, fallout of the communist bloc and the dominance of a single world power, before that power also dillutes itself. Sooner or later this global stage is also going to come crashing down like rotten wood pillars. Nothing has changed, but the names and the facades representing the powers. I pray that day wouldn't come.

Thadoe Htut - Many Countries in the World has blurred the line of old school Capitalist (Market Economy) vs State-Planned Economy.

Russia, China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia etc have already adopted Capitalism (Market Economy) - and integrate with the World. This economic integration alone - has lead to true integration with the World - and everyone's economy is at stake if conflict flare up between the old school of Capitalism vs Planned Economy.

In fact, Countries like Russia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia --- has some sort of democracy - where Government are elected.

China Government is not directly elected by the people, but they have a system to elect their Government - which is election within their Party.

So the political ideology between the 2 old schools --- will no longer contribute to the cause of big clash between the 2 old schools.

As can be seen, China and Russia both supported US initiative to on denuclearisation in Korean Peninsula.

But old fissures still do exist between the 2 old schools - even though there are communication, contacts, business between the 2 old schools.

But the fissures in terms of ideologies and economic principles are not wide - and unlikely to cause 2 schools to fight over it.

But geopolitical influence and power play - is the actual underlying issue that are causing some strains -- like US vs China, US vs Russia --- where traditionally US is the dorminant player.

The uprising of China is causing discomfort to US.

So diplomacy and business is vital to cushion - any conflict and confrontation.

And denuclearisation of Korean Peninsula --- is the single most critical issue that must be handle carefully between S Korea, US, Japan, China, Russia vs N Korea ---- because potentially it can flare up - and result in a nuclear war - where its destructive consequences will be beyond any humanity can handle.

(1) Nuclear contamination can spread 3,000 km to beyond radius wide.
(2) Nuclear atmospheric explosion can knock out all electrical plants, water plants, kill food source --- and all humans can perish within 7 days - without food, water and electricity.

The consequences are unimagineable --- if they are not managed carefully.

Now, there is some "silver lining" arising (a vital "window period") --- and it is important the politicians can take advantage of it and handle the denuclearisation carefully.

People with good insights can help to contribute "solutiuons" that can be accepted by both parties - which hopefully can help to break the impasse.

If US, S Korea vs N Korea (plus others like China, Japan and Russia) ---- are unable to handle this "silver lining", this "window period" well) ----- what comes later in this few months ---- can be "unimagineable" ---- where "all hell can break loose" ---- and all humanity can perish ---- if it turn out to be a "nuclear winter".

(1) Asia Pacific and US may perish first.
(2) Subsequently "nuclear winter" may cover the whole Earth --- and all humanity may perish with it.

However, if the Korean denuclearisation issue is handle well ------ denuclearisation may become possible --- and N Korea for the 1st time may follow the footstep of China, Russia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos ---- to integrate with the World "seamlessly" --- and benefit from the Peace, Economic Development and the subsequent prosperity ---- like anyone else.

So this "window period" ---- is very vital to "Humanity" and should be handle "very carefully".

The two Koreas have agreed to hold a summit at their border in April, with Pyongyang saying it would consider abandoning nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees, Seoul said Tuesday (Mar 6).
If confirmed by Pyongyang, the offer would mark the first time under the current leadership the North had declared itself willing to discuss conditions under which it might consider giving up its nuclear arsenal - a move it has previously insisted was firmly off the negotiating table.

Think for the denuclearisation talk to progress and succeed, important to emphasize the following :-
(1) Security assurance that N Korea will not be attack. The same go for S Korea - to be assured that it will not be attacked.
Security and safety are paramount.

(2) Economic development, lifting of sanctions, business, investment etc --- can then be discussed in conjunction to denuclearisation talk.

We can all hope for a peaceful and engaging Olympics this year with North and South Korea competing side by side. I think we should not be too quick to 2nd guess that N Korea is not sending a non-family diplomat and hence is not sincere.

This diplomat is quite a high profile official.

Asia culture is quite different from the West - where what it seems unimportant move could be an important move. Thus reading too much into it may lead to misinterpretation.

So let keep a watchful eyes on the development with mindful breath - and hope that real breakthrough can come - if not now, hopefully in the near future.

It is very clear that N Korea, US, S Korea or Japan, China and Russia - not much less Asia Pacific Countries want to see a war breakout in Korean Peninsula --- because it hurts everyone.

Let's hope something can be work out - and eventually resolve the tension in Korean Peninsula and lead to denuclearisation.

There are 2 options for talk :-
(1) Put a stick in front of the table and say let's talk - else whack you with a stick.

(2) Let us talk - this issue has bug us for very long - and it is unpleasant and painful for both of us.
Let us talk to work out something.

Do you think N Korea will respond better to Option 1 or Option 2?

Asia culture is one that start slow, build trust, build confidence, start with something that seems small, a small step, do something that seems unimportant - and slowly move into something that is of interest to both parties.

This is unlike Western culture that go straight into the main topic and want immediate result - that is still cold, very sensitive and still unyielding - and if things don't happen as expected - try to use high-hand tactics. This will not work for Asia culture.

Hence, let S Korea Leaders lead the way in this - as they understand N Korea culture better than anyone do.

"Exchange of Heart" 交心 - is the crux that may lead to breakthrough.

When Mr Lee Kuan Yew visit China and meet the then Mr Deng Xiao Ping - "Exchange of Heart" 交心 - is the crux that lead to the breakthrough - that change China's heart to integrate with the World economically.

We should take a cue on how China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos - break out from economic and political isolation to embrace the World and integrate with the World economically.

(1) China by "Exchanging of Heart" with Singapore and then open up economically and integrate with the World. China work with someone they can trust - which is Singapore.
(2) Vietnam work with Asean by joining ASEAN to open up economically.
(3) Cambodia, Laos work with both China and joining ASEAN to open up economically.

N Korea will have to work with "someone" he can trust - and do similar things like what China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos did.
