Dr Mahathir keep saying that Malaysia must value "rule of law".

International signed agreement - such as this water deal - is the legally binding "rule of law".

By flip-flopping and keep wanting to re-negotiating the deal --- is a gross violation of "rule of law".

Dr Mahathir don't seems to follow what he preach.

If Dr. Mahathir keep wanting to breach international signed agreement - then International Court is the best place to settle the dispute.

The World, other Countries and other Government --- will be wary of dealing and signing any international agreement with Malaysia - as Dr Mahathir is prone to breaching international signed agreement and keep flip-flopping.

Foreign investors must also be careful not to commit investment into Malaysia - as Dr Mahathir seems to flip-flop any agreement or contract signed - and will burnt investment to the advantage of Malaysia.

Dr M is again a very shrewd snake like politician. He knows his coalition is in- fighting and comments by locals in Malaysiakini is getting more vocal against the party. So he is trying to create distraction again

Dr Mahathir will always make use of another Country as whipping boy - when his domestic critics turn nasty against him.
It is his tactic to divert pressure and nasty criticism from his domestic critics.

We will just wait it out - until his time is up.

Just keep playing tai-chi.
He is already 92 to 93 years old - how long can he last.

The price is much lower (less than 1/10) than the water price from China to HK. But compromise and negotiation is of course necessary.

Contract sign means signed.
Agreement sign need to be honour means needs to be honour.

This is the true "rule of law".

Re-negotiate any oh how -- show he lack integrity and
untrustworthiness.

This old man failed badly to achieve his agenda against Singapore for 22 years. During his time he keep bullying this Little Red Dot. But The Little Red Dot were not rattled. He's trying his luck again. He thinks without malaysia, Singapore will go down on Her knees. But he forgotten that Singapore hv come a long way since independence without getting any help from malaysia.

We need three things...in order to live.
Air, water and food. Without air we die within minutes. Without water , we will die within a few days.

LKY once seriously said : "If Malaysia cut the supply of water to us, Singapore will be forced to go to war...to fight for drinking water." The situation has not changed much...although we are trying to be self sufficient in water ...by collecting rain water, by converting sea water to drinking water..... by recycling water from our toilets.
We will only be self sufficient in water supply in about 40 years from now...when the current deal with J...See More

Maslow's hierarchy of basic needs say more than three. Apart from respiration, hydration and consumption, also crucial includes sleep, metabolism and excretion. Then again on the topic of Mahathir, sue is the only need.

JM Chow, don"t worry about Mahathir's threat. He is just trying his luck to test PM LHL to see if he fits into his father's shoes when water is concerned.

Mahathier will back off.

Don't worry too much...Mathathir always like to play w water...cant shut off tap in short term since they also rely on SG treating the water and resupplying them. Same old strategy of create external issue n unite internal division.

This is again a recurring water issue, it will happen again in future even if Dr M is not around. Instead of always depend on who will be the next leader in charge, why not continue to build upon whatever little resources we have (I think Singapore is linking most of the water drainages to the reservoirs), double up by digging deeper (or even triple up) for all Singapore reservoirs or even connect more islands, dig deeper to create more reservoirs. In long run, it will benefit us since water is a very sensitive to us. Singapore BOLEH !!!

He didnt say stop supplying. He is asking for higher price and reason given is inflation. We can also increase the processed water price going back Jb based on inflation.

We should also think about how much profit spservices made.

If sp services increase price based on let 3 to 10 sen, we know its not justifiable, because raw water is a minute cost proportion.

All of us respect the social agreement made in 1957 Malaya Independence from British unless we have no morals or ethics to honor any deals. All races leaders at that time agree to give minorities (e.g. Chinese/Indians) free citizenship in exchange priority for Malays in education, religion and government. This was agreed with the British, failure to adhere means they will not be citizens and had to return to homeland or other British Empire at that time e.g Burma. That was the agreement and a huge sacrifice. Just because it is NOT to your benefit later some want to complain. Mahathir should honor the cheap water agreement of just 3 sens (1 cent) per 1000 gallons to Singapore till now (even it is underpriced and may not be fair to Malaysia as China charges HongKong 8RM per 1000 gallons today which is 30'000% more) but Malaysia under BN still honor to Singapore. Is Mahathir claiming we should have no principles or morals to honor deals?

It is just like a marriage which is also a social contract, just because your spouse now is old and fatter and not to your benefit means you can have an affair with others? no right. that is like breaking a social agreement or water agreement. a deal is a deal. The peace and prosperity we are enjoying now will always be there as long we respect agreements and build good relationships with each other. but if you try to break the agreement, there will be wars or tension which is NOT worth it.
