This doesn't explained why we need to spent almost as much as Israel in defence. I don't think there is anyone on earth will disagree that Singapore defence position dwarf in comparison to Israel. My question is really are we spending because we really need it because our paper generals are spending tax payers money to build their career ? Who is keeping an eye on these spending ? Totally no confident at all with the so called leaders because they are all paper generals too.

Theres no more japanese imperial army..malaysia isnt going to do anything in fact i think singapore will more likely take over malaysia by taking advantage of their economy...so who is the enemy? Terrorism?...before anyone can even fart in public everyone know who the farter is with cctv operating everywhere...so a terrorist network in singapore will never happen..mas selamat is just overated crap just meant to make people fear and give the govt more control over its people by using terrorism to install more security systems and keep ppl in under more domination..a threat does not exist and besides islam is a religion of peace and the real radicalised preachers will be banned immdiatedly if they say anything wrong about the country especially the one party no opposition group that is in power right now or any thing that will trigger jihadist movement...and the likes of you who do not want change and keep them in power...now as for what u call the trust of the ppl in this government..ok who is the judge u ricky lim? If singapore can take on a human manifestion liken it to a tiny little man in a big room with lots of big tall men..the small little man is brash, highly ,ambitious ,proud and very hypocritical yet he has the power to charm seduce others convince others and beguile others so that he has his way...is that what the people of this country are to make up this small ambitious man in this global room..or is this the only the ruling elite that make up the components of this man? The idea of national pride is a virtue but to support an imposter that has mixed itself up with the nation...that is so foolish and it isnt patriotism anymore. The nation as in the country or the elite that rule it? So by building up the military..who is this tiny little man going to fight against in this big global room where the men are all bigger and will crush this midget anytime but just choose not too due to global ecomomy impact as this room is also about trade and business deals...so how well is this tiny man going to defend itself..to its last man? Put up a good fight till all people are killed or just surrender to stop losses or even before any invasion declare the country a vassal to the invader as not to lose any innocent lives...in this country case subjectively the latter 2 options are more likely...so whats the need to beef up the military power once again...in this global room the men are all doing deals with each.other amd anyone like hitler, hiroto, stalin, gidafi musellini, saddam hussein have all gone..where are the warlords in this room..they dont exist..so why the need to have high military power when todays world is all about business and politicians that bark and dont bite like trump and kim jung on..so now we go on to ISIS and islamic jihadist..first is it likely that the money minded malaysian politicians and indonesian poilticians will ever think of embracing jihad and make a islamic caliphate here in SE asia the answer is No...and heres a place where countries invest in one and other so a lot to lose if war break out so they need this little red dot singapore...next thing is except for the failed bomb plans and the infamous mas selamat has there been a real terrorist attack from islamic jihadist here..the answer is no...i believe that the word terrorism is just a keyword used to give people more fear as to justify the need for government to increase more authoritian control..and how to do that? Build up the army and get a stronger police force so here the elite stay comfortably in power..the ppl crushed and told that this is the right thing for them to accept because there is "terrorism" and a stronger army is needed to protect u from it and a stronger police force too..so question the real terrorists are they a group of mad arabs dressed in military uniforms beheading people or are they dressed up in business suits and kiss babies help and smile at the elderly, wave at people and sound very intellectual while addressing a crowd thru sppeches and the whole lot of propaganda activities?

Not you and not Francis Ong - who is neither elected by the people or who is in the right position and right appointment to decide for Singapore and Singaporeans.

Razak Muhammed, you are the one who is being disrespectful. I have actually lose relatives, killed by the Japs in WW2. And I have lived through the Konfrontasi. U want to talk about WW2, ok, lets do that, look at the facts. Japan was a military superpower in WW2. In the initial stages of WW2, they defeated the combined forces of the US, UK, French, Dutch, and China. Exactly how could Singapore even defend against them when all these other countries were defeated? U use this stupid exanple as the reason why we should have a strong defence? First, you have ask yourself who will come here and attack us in the manner of the Japanese and cut our heads off. Secondly, u have to ask yourself why would another country attack us when they can more easily defeat us by closng their borders and airspace to us, by cutting the water and food supply, by withdrawing all their 100,000s citizens from our economy, etc. If you can answer these 2 question, then u have leg to stand on.
