I think it is hard to believe that Monks who has attained Samadhi &/or Nirvana Fruition will in the name of self-mummification to obtain body sariras will "comnit suicide" - because committing suicide will cause descend into "Avici Hell" - and will not attain Samadhi &/or Nirvana Fruition.

Buddha discourage self-mummification - thus inform His Disciples - who many are Arahats to cremate His bodies once He passed into PariNirvana - and not to preserve His Body even though He had entered into Jhana Samadhi & Nirvana Fruition when He passed away - specifically He entered into PariNirvana.

But highly attained meditatiors who are Monks or Nuns or Laypersons - can attain Jhana Samadhi &/or Nirvana Fruition in meditation - and will unwittingly "did not return" from the highly meditative states of Jhana Samadhi &/or Nirvana Fruition before His or Her bodies passed away after about 1 week.

Thus Dharma Protectors must be around to protect the meditators who have entered into highly meditative states to coax them to "come back or return" from His/Her supramundane consciousness back to human mundane consciousness - failing which - if the body exit about 1 week without water and food - will passed away - leaving behind body sariras that will last forever few hundred years, thousand years.

Committing suicide descending into Avici Hell - are paranormal consciousness - a sorrowful, pain and suffering consciousness state and has tremendous bodily pain.

No attained meditators who intend to commit suicide can attain Jhana Samadhi &/or Nirvana Fruition - and can detach his consciousness from bodily phenomenon including bodily pain, discomfort - to maintain in such highly meditative Lotus sitting posture.

Thus any experienced attained meditators know that the report is not accurate that attained meditators do self-mummification to his death by committing suicide - whether consuming poison or starve themselves.

But not consuming water and food is correct - because meditators in attained Jhana Samadhi &/or Nirvana Fruition - has "detached" his bodily phenomenon from his consciousness (as his human mundane consciousness has transformed into Supramundane consciousness of Jhana Samadhi &/or Nirvana Fruition consciousness - and no longer need food and water to sustain His body function).

Thus it is important that before 1 week passed, Dharma Protectors must be around to "wake him up" - to come back from Supramundane consciousness to human mundane consciousness to drink water and eat food - otherwise His body will passed away.

The 1 week non-nourishment of water and food - is like "hibernation" - such as animal hibernation - as there are very little mundane bodily activities and mundane mind activities - that need nourishment from external water and food.

But on the safe side, 3 days to 4 days should "coax the meditator back from his supramundane consciousness" - in case his body cannot take without water or food.

Heart Sutra (心经) - describe Jhana Samadhi & Nirvana Fruition :-

舍利子,色不已空,空不已色。
色及是空,空及是色。
受想行识,意付如是。
舍利子是诸法空相,不生不灭,不垢不净不增不减。

It means :-
Body Sariras - form (body and human mundane consciousness) is not exactly emptiness (supramudance bodily form that has enwrap the Universe of 4 Great Element Emptiness), supramundane consciousness of Jhana Samadhi of 5 mental aggregate emptiness and Nirvana Fruition); emptiness is not exactly form.

Form is like Emptiness, Emptiness is like Form. (Physical Body and Human consciousness immersing in supramundane consciousness - is form like emptiness, and emptiness is like form).

Thus 5 mental aggreggates of 5-sense consciousness, feeling, perception, judgement, mental formation - is experience in human body form and in supramundane consciousness.

Body Sariras - is all Universal Dharma Emptiness - enwrapping the Universe - whose body sariras will not rebirth, will not destruct, is not dirty, is not clean, will not gain, will not lose.

Attained meditators in Jhana Samadhi &/or Nirvana Fruition - will experience the above phenonmenon as described in Heart Sutra (心经).

Even when the meditator "return" from his highly meditative states, his supramundane consciousness will not be lost and become predominant - and will in fact last for about 1 month - even though some of his human mundane consciousness of 5-sense consciousness, feelings, perception, judgement, mental formation will have return.

Buddha is said to last for 49 days - more than a month.

During this period, the meditator will have phenomenon experience such as :-
(1) as though seeing videos of past (including past lives) events, present live event, future events.
(2) can enter into the 10 realms and communicate with the beings in the respective realms
(3) seeing phenomenon vision of the Earth and Universe.

Even after 1 month or 49 days, remnants of the supramundane consciousness will still remain though most of human mundane consciousness will have become predominant,
