National Service men - whether in Army, Police or SCDF are trained to handle real threat.
(1) Army - to fight in a war to defend our Country if invaded.
(2) Police - to deal with criminals and now even terrorists.
(3) SCDF - to deal with fire and clear hazardous materials.
They are the frontline to respond to threat effectively with weapons through proper training if the Country is threatened.
Without the National Service men, civilians will face the threat directly - with no weapons and no trainings to deal with threats - just like in World War 2 when we are invaded.

When this frontline National Service men are handling situation at the ground, they are not facing the threat alone.
The Command Centre are kept informed of the situation on the ground through comms and instruction from the higher authority can be passed on.
Surveillance camera mounted on the uniform also provide real time video recording of the threat that the frontline NS men are facing - so that reinforcement can be activated if situation required.
Thus the threat is not responded and reacted not only by the NSmen on the ground, but the whole force.
NSmen can respond and react to neutralise any threat that arise - and not like what the forum say NSmen are part-time.
NSmen are trained professional and can respond to real threat - even terrorist threat.

MRT, Bus Interchange, tourist spots, business areas are soft targets with high human volume and are favorite targets by terrorists.
Thus this TransComms officers play an important role to keep the public places safe.
They must be armed with the right weapons, comms, policing skills, checking suspicious characters as necessary to keep Singapore safe - and they play an important role, no lesser role.

If terrorists ever set foot into Singapore, all the 3 services maybe activated to deal with the threat :-
(1) Police and Police commandos - to respond and react to terrorists threat.
(2) Army and Commandos - to provide reinforcement and backup, explosive units activated to deactivate bombs
(3) SCDF to react to fire, ambulance service or clear hazardous material.
NSmen may all have to play a role.
Who say NSmen are not important and not treating their training and their duty responsibly?
There are 3G Army.
Soon there must be 3 services 3G - to react to terrorists threat.
ricky l4 seconds ago
This 3G SAF, SPF and SCDF - inter-service to respond to terrorist threat maybe label as "3G Prism".
3G Prism - 3G Policing reactionary inter-service mobilisation forces
ricky l4 seconds ago
3G Prism - maybe an extension of 3G Army - to include the SPF and SCDF.
3G Prism - may stand for 3rd Generation Policing Reactionary Inter-Service Mobilisation Force.
or
3G Prism - may stand for 3rd Generation Policing Rapid-Response Inter-Service Mobilisation Force.
ricky l4 seconds ago
Where 3G Prism - will include all the integration of a Terrorism Battle Management System (T-BMS).
ricky l4 seconds ago
Because countering terrorism - becomes a "paramilitary operation" - and go more than a police operation or a pure military operation.
As it involves investigation, forensic, collecting evidence, intelligence, bombs, military style combat, explosive, guerrilla tactics, involve foreign elements, religious influence, rescue mission, hostage situation, immigration etc.
ricky l4 seconds ago
Not forgetting cyber security, social media, IT operations, physical surveillance, cyber surveillance, community interaction etc
ricky l4 seconds ago
This 3G Prism - will incorporate Military Battle Management System and Police Management System and Civil Defence Management System and IT Management System.
ricky l4 seconds ago
And should also include Religious Management System into the 3G Prism.
ricky l4 seconds ago
Should also include Community / Public Management System where public feedback through smartphone, internet, sensors - can also feedback into the T-BMS ----- and an all-rounded system to counter terrorism.
ricky l7 seconds ago
3G CT-Prism - may stand for 3rd Generation Counter-Terrorism Paramilitary Rapid-Response Inter-Service Mobilisation Force or System.

'National Service men - whether in Army, Police or SCDF are trained to handle real threat'
How do you rate them from 1 to 10 for their performance in the Little India riot?
Army: -1
Police:- 0
SCDF: -1
(1) Army - to fight in a war to defend our Country if invaded.
all our paper tiger generals are war virgins. The Defence Minister
true calling is a medical cancer doctor. The rest are soldiers of fortune.
(2) Police - to deal with criminals and now even terrorists.
the PAP police are morally and politically bankrupt of ideas. They see a 14-year-old as a criminal and Hong Lim Park protesters as terrorists.
(3) SCDF - to deal with fire and clear hazardous materials.
sure, the G got to charge a former Commissioner of SCDF for sex scandal and corruption. While, inside SCDF the rank and file are rioting in dormitory and committing suicides.
That's how bleak the safety and security situation are at the moment in Singapore under PM Lee's watch.

Nathan - i do not know whether you are a Singaporean or not or do you even have a tinge of patriotism.
Let us look at the issue you raised.
(1) Army - Singapore has seen peace since Independence - this show that our Army is an effective deterent though not to forget our diplomatic front that help us to make friends all over the World. This speak very well on our 3G Army.
(2) Police - since you mention Little India riot - we will talk about the Little India riot. Now there is a similar incident in HongKong whereby the Police attempt to chase out the illegal hawkers in Mongkok that trigger a riot.
The HK Police was grossly outnumbered and did not possess the required protective gadget when they confront the rioters. On the TV, we can see that the HK Police brave as they are charging with baton - 1 versus 10 rioters - and the Police was severely bashed up by the rioters. 100 over Policemen were injured, some badly injured but fortunately no death.
Now let us look at our Patrol Police that confront a large crowd of rioters in Little India - they use brain rather than brawn - to fight the rioters when they are not properly equipped with riot gadget. They have to run away to prevent themselves from being stoned, burn to death or bash to death. Of course they can react by firing their firearms at the rioters like what the HK Police fire 2 warning shots so as to rescue their bashed up colleagues. But is it the right way to control the riot?
When the Singapore Riot Police arrive, many rioters were arrested as the rioters are no match for the riot police who are armed with the correct riot gadgets. Subsequently more arrest are made through the CCTV identification of more rioters.
This is smarter way to confront the rioters - rather than go by brute force or tackle the rioters with brawn when under-equipped. I am not sure whether you know Suntze Art of War. I guess you don't.
(3) SCDF - I don't know what you are talking about.

ISIS threat among the region is very real.
ISIS has already attack Indonesia - at the heart of capital - Jarkata.
Malaysia has captured many home-grown ISIS sympathisers.
Singapore has arrested some home-grown ISIS sympathisers plus 20 over Bangladeshi laborers would be ISIS terrorists that were deported.
We cannot let this ISIS group think that we are vulnerable - when we are not.

A new unit will be formed by the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to help combat possible terrorists threat.
It will also function to help during civil contingencies, humanitarian efforts and disaster relief operations once it is inaugurated on 12 July.
Known as the Army Deployment Force (ADF), the battalion-sized unit will complement the operations of the Island Defence Task Force (IDTF), Special Operations Task Force (SOTF) and Home Team agencies.
Minister of Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen, said that the ADF will sharpen the ability of the armed forces to respond to terrorism incidents and other such challenges.
“The basic task for the ADF is the rapid response element, because speed is important in counter-terrorism,” he said.
The ADF will consist of highly trained soldiers with niche capabilities who are able to respond swiftly and decisively to a full spectrum of operations and contingencies.
Using a scenario in which Singapore is under multiple terrorist attacks, Ng said that, in such a situation, the SOTF will respond to the threats.
However, he explained that the rapid response element of the ADF will be activated to help support the special forces as well as the Home Team.
He added that the ADF can also be activated in civil contingencies when the need arises or provide rapid response to Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations.
Ng said that there will be dedicated regular officers that will be trained, assigned and tasked to the ADF.
“We will also train selective national service (NS) units to assist in these functions so they can operate with the ADF so that national servicemen can also be part of the response element to counter-terrorism as well as other civil emergencies and humanitarian disasters,” he said.

SINGAPORE: A tool to help police detect individuals who may be engaged in online violent extremism early on is being developed by the Home Team Behavioural Science Centre (HTBSC), said Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs Desmond Lee on Wednesday (Jul 13).
He said the Online Violent Extremism Screening Tool is being developed so that interventions can be prioritised for these high-risk persons. The Senior Minister of State was speaking at the Asian Conference of Criminal and Operations Psychology (ACCOP) held here.
Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam had in January said Southeast Asia has become a "fertile ground" for an "explosion of terrorism based on religion". He also said in March that the terrorist threat is at "its highest level in recent times".
The SG Secure national movement - a call to action for all Singaporeans to enhance their readiness for potential terrorist attacks - was also unveiled by the Home Affairs Minister in March this year.
DETECTING RISKS AT BORDERS
The HTSBC and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) are also working on a Security Screening Questionnaire, which enhances the interview protocols used by immigration officers to better detect persons of risk at our borders, Mr Lee said.
"We are living in dangerous times. To keep our people secure, our security and law enforcement agencies have to maintain a constant high state of vigilance," he said. "Applying psychology and behavioural science principles can optimise our security and law enforcement operations, and maximise our scarce resources, especially people."
Mr Lee also said to strengthen resilience among Singaporeans in an increasingly crisis-prone world, Home Team psychologists have developed a set of training materials as part of the National Resilience Project.
