Cross Island Line travel time will take 6 minutes more with skirting route: Khaw

Impacts due to the Additional 6 minutes :-

(1) Additional $2 billion for skirting.

(2) More environmental impact - as the additional distance need ventiliation shaft to come out to the surface area. (No ventilation shaft is needed if run below reserves and minimal impact to reserves).

(3) Got to chase some houseowners away for land acquisition and additional cost to compensate home owners.

(4) Got to chase some business owners away for land acquisition and additional cost to compensate business owners.

(5) Being an intechange stations - the transit commuters volume are heavy. Assume 2 minutes per 6 carriage MRT cars, 100 commuters per carriage, total = 600 commuters per MRT cars. For 6 minutes, 1,800 commuters will need to be clear from the MRT platform else - will cause congestion. Thus 6 minutes delay has substantial impact on the MRT station.

(6) To clear the additional 6 minutes delay, more MRT will need to be purchased. 6 minutes mean 6 additional MRTs. To clear a peak period of 3 hours - many more MRTs need to be purchased to increase the MRT frequency ---- and translate into multi-million dollars extra in addition to $2 billion.

Are Singaporeans going to pay more taxes to finance the additional 6 minutes based on the above impact?

I think Singaporeans have no ideas how many commuters cross into the MRT per minutes during peak hours.

Ay I thought many Singaporeans take MRT train in the morning to work and return from work in the evening --- many complains that the MRT is packed to the brim and have to queue up to take the MRT trains.

How come all those who post here don't know meh?

Thought in peak hours, almost every 2 minutes got 1 train to clear the crowd in the MRT platform.

Thought during peak hours, hundred and thousands of commuters appear in the MRT at any one time.

Commuters ever take picture and post it in the social media what? Some more complain like crazy and say MRT very congested. Trains did not come fast enough.

Now 6 minutes not important meh?

I think must try to reduce the frequency of the MRT trains --- no need to buy so many MRT and save more for Singapore.

All the commuters here can afford to wait - 6 minutes no problem for them lah, they can even wait longer.

自己讲，自己爽.

But don't know how to think.

When impact them, then they 哭爸，哭妈。

If they say spending additional $2 billion no problem - tax them.

If they say additional 6 minutes no problem - make MRT come less frequently and save $ to buy additional MRT.

If they say they don't want this cross island line for redundancy - make them stuck at the mrt or take relief buses when a line breakdown.

Make them suffer the consequences, then all these people will think before they say.
