We have been working at all levels of Government these past two months to effect their return, quietly and out of the limelight where it is more effective.

On the hindsight, guess China is trying to pry US allies influence away from US - before the new Administration takes over.

The new US Administration demonstrate less friendly towards China and has harped on a couple of topics that worried China.

Among those are Taiwan, trade, currency manipulation, N Korea, SCS --- which heighten the possibility of new tension between US and China.

The US DOD defense budget for 2017 has also changed from terrorism focus - to become China and Russia focus.

China has seen that Philippines has switched allies from US to China.

All these developments may have prompt China to act early before the new US Administration take over.

Hence seizing Singapore terrex - could be the fastest way to achieve China's objective.

  And i believe, China's objective will be to ensure that Singapore will not be used as a proxy to harm China - if tension between US and China heat up.
  
  Because Singapore position is quite unique and strategic :-
  (1) Singapore has a training base in Taiwan - where tension between China, Taiwan and US is heating up on Taiwan issue.
  
  (2) US is using Singapore naval base for its Littoral Combat Ships - though such ships are mainly used for terrorism and piracies purpose - and has by no means a threat to China.
  
  (3) Singapore has large investment in China and China and Singapore is among the largest trading partners plus economic partners in many areas.

    When previously, China is willing to offer an extremely sensitive site - Hainan island to Singapore for our training if we moved from Taiwan --- indicate that China is treating Singapore as a vital and strategic partner ---- not only as a vital Economic partner --- but also a security partner.
    
    Hainan Island is a base where China station its strategic nuclear submarine for 2nd strike capability.

      Now the World has entered into an "era of uncertainty". No one knows what will happen for the next few years nor even the next few months.
      
      We need to safeguard our interest and calculate the risk.
      
      There are 2 areas to calculate :-
      (1) Security interest
      (2) Economic interest
      
      Only then we can commit what will be the best for us - in the context of the larger environment.

        Actually your question should be will they seized our Division or armaments if we base in Hainan one day?
        
        The question should be, will we get caught in the cross-fire - if we are base in Taiwan or Hainan?

          Chronological events :-
          (1) Taiwan pro-independence party won
          (2) Hague ruling on South China Sea - not in favor of China
          (3) Philippine switch ally from US to China
          (4) China harp on the above issues - to seize Singapore terrex
          (5) Couple of days later, Taiwan President make a call to US President-elect - could be trigger by the Terrex seize - where Singapore troop in Taiwan is a bell-weather for friendly or hostility between the Taiwan Straits.
          (6) China warn US President-Elect on "One China principle".
          (7) US President-Elect through twitter - questioning the need for "One China", "South China Sea", "One-sided trade", "Currency manipulation".
          (8) China seize US underwater drone.
          (9) US announce a US DOD defense budget of over US$600 billion budget - and defense posture change from terrorism focus to China focus and Russia focus.
          (10) China release US underwater drone.
          (11) China continue to held Singapore terrex - but both sides quietly negotiating for release - into 2 months and still ungoing.
          
          --- Wonder why need more than 2 months to release - as this is not a legal issue.
          Singapore emphasize it is not a strategic issue. But definitely China viewpoint is not so simple based on those videos produced in Youtube. To China it is a strategic issue.
          Look like the negotiation will still go on at least for another month....
          
          I think China won't let go until they get what they want.

            With the construction of ports and West to East Coast Railway in M'sia and other sea ports in Yanmmar and Pakistan, businesses in Sg will face more challenging time ahead. Livelihood of all Singaporeans will be affected. Better get ready for more difficult time ahead.
