Trump may not realise that the current warfare of A2/AD ---- will incur a very high casualty rates on both sides when there will be no winners.
It will quickly have to escalate into the used of nuclear weapons to impose a winner - which will be the end of the World - because both sides have nuclear warheads that cannot be intercepted.

I think only after Trump has sat down with his Commanders going through a battle simulation exercise - will realise that fighting a conventional war with either China or Russia -- will be Mutual Destruction - with no winner.

China has mounted a land-based A2/AD in place.
US will have to counter via a sea-based anti-A2/AD with its vast array of carrier groups.
The end result will be a devastating destruction and casualties of assets from both sides.

So the moral of the story is :- "Both sides don't fight" and complicate the matter.
Let the claimants settle among themselves - in which is already taking place.
It will must be a "willing buyers and willing sellers" scenarios to resolve the island disputes.
