Already expecting this cross-border mayhem to unfold.
But did not know it come so soon.

Emotion - without proper think through on the cross border effect - is the cause of the mayhem.

When emotion get the better over rational thinking in implementing public policies that will affect many people - specifically the public - mayhem will follow - and this is exactly what is happening now.

And now roll back will be required before things go ugly.

The rationale for the VEP is very simple :-
- Singapore COE that hover around S$60,000 (where one small car cost a cool S$100,000) complemented by ERP - are used to prevent congestion on Singapore road.

- A car in Malaysia cost say RM$30,000 - less than S$10,000 - do you think more Malaysian cars will not come into Singapore and clog the Singapore road?

- Thus the rationale for implementing higher VEP for foreign vehicles coming into Singapore is to close the loopholes of foreign cars congesting Singapore road - where Singaporeans are paying an exorbitant price for owning a car and using them.

- Now having knowng the rationale of the VEP, should Malaysian side be emotional in increasing hefty toll charges on foreign and their local vehicles coming in and out of the causeway?

- It is not the Singapore side making life difficult for Malaysian - but it is a policy of VEP to plug the loopholes in a vast price difference of using cars in a Singapore congested roads.

Otherwise in no time, you will see half a million Malaysian registered cars plying Singapore - whereas Singapore registered cars have to be kept at home and cannot be used - because Malaysia cars are far to cheap to ply the Singapore roads - whereas it is far too expensive for Singaporeans to drive their exorbitant Singapore cars on the road ------ the most expensive in the World.

Imagine a Toyota costing S$100,000 in Singapore versus a Malaysia Toyota costing RM$30,000 or S$10,000?

Do you think a Malaysian can drive his car - many times in a day going through many ERP gates in Singapore where a Singapore car cost 10 times more than a Malaysian car?

So should Malaysian side be emotional and upset over the VEP implemented by Singapore side - and retaliate with 400% tolll charge - and result in the mayhem on the causeway from both sides?
