US senator Ted Cruz accuses Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam of cancelling meeting with him out of ‘weakness’ and ‘fear’ of anti-government protesters

On a brief visit to Hong Kong on Saturday, Cruz said he had met “non-violent protest leaders” and impressed upon them the need to shun violence, but insisted he himself had never heard, or seen evidence, of rioting, vandalism and mob attacks over more than four months of civil unrest in the city.

    (1) This is a big lie utter by this US senator.

    (2) The whole world is seeing the broadcast of this HK rioters - looting, pillaging, plundering, beating innocent people till sustain serious injuries, burning, vandalising, throwing petrol bombs, throwing acid and many other crimes in many videos and news broadcast.

    (3) By saying he did not see any of the above - is telling lies with his eyes open.

"but insisted he himself had never heard, or seen evidence, of rioting, vandalism and mob attacks over more than four months of civil unrest in the city." Quote. He made this statement, so, obviously, his views/opinion will be one sided, no point is wasting time on him. His position/views regarding american politics at the moment? No credibility at all..

“Prior to the meeting being cancelled, Ms Lam’s office asked that I agree to keep everything said in the meeting secret and not inform the press of anything she had to say,” Cruz said.

“She seems to misunderstand how free speech operates and also how freedom of the press operates.
    -------------------
The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, says that "Congress shall make no law....abridging (limiting) the freedom of speech, or of the press..." Freedom of speech is the liberty to speak openly without fear of government restraint. It is closely linked to freedom of the press because this freedom includes both the right to speak and the right to be heard."
    ---------------------
It would appear that Ted Cruz does not know what is free speech and freedom of the press. Free speech and freedom of the press is the right to speak without fear of government suppression.

Carrie Lam has the right to ask for their discussions as government officials to be kept secret. There is NOTHING about free speech and freedom of press that prevents this. If Ted Cruz refused to honour that, then she has the right to cancel the meeting if she feels that private discussions will be publicly disclosed.

Ted Cruz? Is he the guy that tried for US presidency but suffered humiliating loss, before even making to the finals?

it's like a burger flipper talk to a foreign CEO how she should market her sandwiches. why don't he just focus on airing his views on Turkey invasion of Syria? what about fires in California? go mind your own national business instead. that's if you have any clout at all...

Ted Cruz is another low ranking nobody who is latching onto the HK violent riots as a chance to gain visibility for himself. Because Ted Cruz is so insignificant, the media has been ignoring him. In the same way as Denise Ho (a Canadian citizen fraud who purports to represent Hong Kong), Ted Cruz wants to use HK violent riots as a vehicle to promote himself. What Ted Cruz does not understand is that he is so low ranking and unimportant, that he does not qualify to meet HKCE Carrie Lam. Protocol does not allow it to happen. Ted Cruz can apply to meet with the 2nd assistant coffee maker for Carrie Lam's deputy. That is about the same ranking status as Ted Cruz.

Ted Cruz should spend more time fixing the domestic chaos of gun violence, opioid addiction and impeachment of trump, then to poke his nose in the affairs of Hongkong !
The voters elected him to serve for the good for the people and country, but not to get involved in other countries' problems.

This American Senator is obviously using this to gain political mileage. Several problems at the home front and he has to stick his nose into the problems in another continent! What is really galling is that it is the American taxpayers funding this stunt! It is money that is better spent elsewhere.

Low down double crossing, forktongue yellow belly chickens were seen running off hastily into the distance, with their tails dangling between their legs.
