Good that China and Singapore relationship is warm and trusting.

Hopefully, eventually, China and Singapore can understand and accept one another's position, vulnerabilities, concern - and collaborate and cooperate even more closely to prosper, grow together in a peaceful environment.

Wrong man to b foreign minister when the China-Singapore damage needed a Singapore chinaman to b foreign minister. A baldakrishnan does not Jel with a super power china, even though bala would b all out to b China's yes man sincerely to repair the damage coz the Chinese will treat him s an American "running dog" . Mayb we should not comment coz Singapore government always "know what to do" .
Lower ranking Singapore chinamen will have no effect coz the Chinese will b forced to talk to a bala who is everything "American "

When Singapore step up good relationship with China, America not happy.
When Singapore step up good relationship with US, China not happy.

But Singapore is a Sovereign State - and it is the best interest for Singapore to step up and maintain good relationship with both China and US - and can be an honest broker if China and US is locked in conflict.

Both China and US know that - Singapore is indeed an honest broker - as Singapore stand and position is transparent, consistent, rational and trustworthy.
