Mr Lee Hsien Yang also said that he and his sister “do not object in principle” to lending Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s personal effects to the NHB.
“Indeed, we gave many of our father's personal items to the NHB to exhibit.
---
Mr Lee Hsien Yang,
I think this is the 1st time I address you as "Mr Lee Hsien Yang".
You have understood that Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s personal effects, personal itesms that include the Oxley House - is extremely important to Singapore, to Singaporeans, to Singapore History and to Singapore Heritage.
Once you throw it away, demolish it, destroy it ---- it will mean :-
"一去不回头。
就算哭,也哭不回来。“
What is gone will be gone.
No matter how you cry, you will not get it back.
You now agree that "National interest" is of vital important as oppose to "personal wish and personal interest".
If you are willing to be Big Hearted by invoking your Deeper Wisdom - you will realise that by "letting go of some personal wish or not fulfilling your Father's option (1) of demolish , but still fulfillying your Father's opetion (2) - you are still a Filial Son - because you are fulfilling your Mr Lee Kuan Yew other more important wishes :-

"The well being of Singapore and all Singaporeans".
This wish is even larger, more important, more holistic - than demolishing the Oxley House.
This is the "Bigger Filial Piety, Bigger Heart and Deeper Wisdom" - that I believe your Father will invoke upon you.

It is invoking your 大孝 (Bigger Filial Piety) 不是 (not) 小孝 (smaller filial piety).

What Ms Ho Ching did on 6 Apr 2015, namely to lend the items in question to NHB, was undertaken with prior notification to all the 3 children of the late Mr Lee, who were collectively the beneficiaries of the Estate. There is no indication that Mr LHY or Ms LWL had objected to the loan to NHB when Ms Ho Ching emailed them. Indeed, it should be noted that Mr LHY has not stated that he or Ms LWL had objected to the loan to NHB. The loan to NHB was made with before the purported last will of the late Mr Lee was read out by Ng Joo Khin on 12 Apr 2015. As at 6 Apr 2015, it was not clear who would be the Executors of the estate. In any case, even as at 12 Apr 2015 when the 7th will was read out by Ng Joo Khin, probate had not been granted and there is no basis for anyone to assume that Mr LHY and Ms LWL would be the undisputed joint Executors of the late Mr Lee's estate. Readers should bear the above chronology of events in mind when reading this latest FB posting by Mr LHY.

...HC can instruct Temasek to approach LHY and offer him a price that he cannot refuse to buy 38 Oxley Road from him...after the purchase HC then get Temasek to donate 38 Oxley Road to sg gov...LHL will then accept 38 Oxley Road from Temasek HC on behalf of sg gov...LHL will then delegate PMO GF to preserve 38 Oxley Road...GF will then re-delegate to NHB RD to carry out the preservation...NHB RD then contact MND LW to carry out 38 Oxley Road preservation...MND structural engineer then find 38 Oxley Road to be structurally unsound and cannot be preserved and to be demolished...

"structurally unsound and cannot be preserved and to be demolished."
---

There are many pre-war houses - can be reinforced, refurbished and preserve.
Many ancient civilisation of thousand years old can also be preserved.

It is about applying the right Engineering, right Science and right Technology.

Material difficulties and obstacles - are not difficult to resolve - it is about using the right Engineering.

It is people's heart and mind - that if "refuse to let go - even when knowing things are right - like unplugging stubborn roots of sturdy tree " - that is difficult to resolve.

It has to use the technique of "Peeling the onion" ---- peeling the skin of stubborness and skin of ignorance - layer by layer ---- to resolve people's unyielding mind and heart.

Wee Beng - 唉
Keep repeating the below justifications is tiring.
But luckily, IT functions has such thing call store, copy and paste function.

But the elder Lee, who is credited with transforming Singapore from a backwater entrepot into one of Asia's richest countries, feared the house could turn into a monument.
He is said to have wanted to avoid the kind of personality cult that can develop around strongman leaders.
--
I think Singaporeans fully understood Mr Lee Kuan Yew's 苦心 - his concern, his worries - that Meritocracy should be the values and principles in grooming Leadership and not through personality cult or dynasty.
Or let everyone see it from a different perspective :-
(1) If we do not build monument, should we knock down Sir Stamford Raffles statue? (and forget about our history as British colony and bustling port)
(2) If we do not build monument, should we knock down the Merlion statute - and forget about our history of Lion City, the Sang Nila Utama, the name called Temasek.
(3) If we do not build monument, should we knock down the World War 2 Peace monument at City Hall?
(4) If we do not build monument, should we knock down the old Supreme Court that feature the Colonial style building architecture?
(5) In the same vein, should we knock down the Sun Zhong Sun villa, the Alkaff mansion, the Peranakan Museum?
Then Singapore will has no more heritage - only HDB flats, MRT and tall commercial buildings.
Then what is Singapore's identity? What is Singapore Heritage?
HDB flats?
MRT?
I think many Singaporeans are supportive of demolishing the House for the following reasons :-
(1) Oxley House is a private property. The owner will have the right how should this property be handled and Govt should not step in.
(2) It is found in Mr Lee's will and has legal power to execute the Will.
(3) Many Singaporeans are fearful that even if Mr LKY's will can be overriden by Govt, then how about private citizens' house and property?
I think the above reasons are valid.
However, let us view it in another perspective :-
(1) Is Oxley House worth preserving?
Is it a historical significance - where many crucial historical events have taken place in the Oxley House worth preserving through Conservation as Heritage?
Singapore during the 1960's have witnessed life threatening situation, the fate of Singapore hangs in the balance, people are despair and fear for their future.
(a) British pullout - Singapore has no future which are so dependant on British's jobs.
(b) Singapore breakaway from Peninsula - Singapore has no more hinterland, even water supply is a big issue - and Singaporeans may die from thirst if not properly handled and trade is cut off.
(c) Racial riot
(d) Blood revolution to achieve a non-capitalist economy and political system
(e) No armed forces to protect Singapore
etc etc etc
---- all the above crisis over crisis - are resolve and overcome in the Oxley House.
So should Oxley House be conserved as a Heritage - to inspire future Singapore Leaders, Singaporeans - when we encounter future insurmountable crisis - that nothing is impossible to achieve.
The following declaration resonate in the Oxley House :-
"Today Singapore is a marsh land, a swamp. 10 years down the road - we will build Singapore to be a cosmopolitan city. A 1st class developed nation !"
Future Singapore Leaders can set foot in the Oxley House when encounter insurmounable crisis and make this statement :-
"Our Pioneer Leader has build Singapore to become a 1st class nation from nothing.
Today we face an unsurmountable crisis. We are at a better stake than when we are in 1960s where we have nothing.
With grace from Oxley House, we can overcome this crisis and make our Nation better !"
This is the real reason - why we should keep Oxley House - as our Heritage (not personality cult, not dynasty).
(2) To allay the fear of Government taking over private property for Conservation, I believe Government will be willing to pay market values as compensation to property owner and ensure that property owner will be no loss.
(3) A private will - has legal power if properly written. Now it is whether beneficiaries that benefit from the Will are willing to negotiate, understand the significance of the House and compromise with Deep Wisdom and Big Heart - to accept Government compensation and offer Oxley House as Heritage as argued in point (1) above.
This is meant to benefit the 6 million Singaporeans and future descendants.

Keeping the House for Heritage for Conservation is not hero-worshipping.
It is a place where many important decisions that help to resolve crisis over crisis - were made during the early days - where Singapore's fate faces insurmountable risks.
If one day, Singapore need reminders, need a rallying point or need inspirational source - visit the Oxley House ----- "where the top pioneer leaders --- meet and make vital decisions -- that transformed Singapore from a marsh swampy land - into a now bustling cosmopolitan 1st class developed Nation".
It will inspire future Singapore leaders and people ---- nothing is "mission impossible" - because our Pioneer Leaders has transformed bleak future - into one solid prosper future for us --- whatever crisis can be overcome and resolve.
This is the significance of the Heritage of Conserving this Oxley House is all about.
It is not hero-worshipping.
It is not about worrying - critics will bad mouth our Pioneer Leaders. (Who in this world, whichever Politicians are not criticised or bad-mouth? Even Buddha was defamed and bad-mouthed. Even God is bad-mouth.
What is important is in the "Heart".
It is about a Rallying Point.
It is about an Inspirational Source.
It is about a place of Reminder - that we can overcome - whatever the crisis we face.
Get it?

The impact of visiting a Heritage - where events take place is very powerful --- much more than seeing documentary films.
It can invoke strong sentiment and can draw inspiration.
If the Heritage is demolished - there is nothing left to inspire - except to watch documentary films - that does not stimulate all the 5 senses - except the eyes and ears senses.
If don't believe - visit Pearl Harbour in Hawaii - and feel and watch for yourselves the sunken warship with dead bodies in it - the very Heritage that was preserved - to remind us not to start a World War.
If don't believe - visit the 911 sites of twin tower - where 3,000 over international lives perished --- it can be extremely emotional.
Never underestimate a Heritage.
I hope the siblings read this and get the message.

Wee Beng - in fact, i am sadden i could not see Mr Deng Xiao Peng monument or memorial erected in China.

Mr Deng Xiao Peng is a Great Man - that has build modern China and China's current prosperity.

And Mr Deng Xiao Peng is a Hakka - just like our Mr Lee Kuan Yew, also a Hakka.

By having Mr Deng Xiao Peng monument or memorial in China ---- I believe many PRC Chinese, and even Singaporeans will remember how Mr Deng Xiao Peng open up China and integrate with the World economically --- and make China economically strong today.

I still remember what Mr Deng Xiao Peng dialogue with our Mr Lee Kuan Yew :-
(1) Mr Deng Xiao Peng say - If China open the door and window to the World, "mosquitoes, houseflies will fly in".
(2) Mr Lee Kuan Yew reply - Opening the door and window will let "mosquitoes, houseflies fly in" - but will also let business, jobs and money flow in - that will improve the lives of PRC Chinese. In addition, the integration will also benefit Countries that do business with China --- a mutually beneficial outcome --- a "Win-Win outcome".

This is the Greatness of Mr Deng Xiao Peng that PRC Chinese should remember him - with his monument and memorial.

Without Mr Deng Xiao Peng's monument, memorial, heritage and the historical records of what Mr Deng Xiao Peng has done for China ------- can younger PRC Chinese and future descendants learn from the Greatness of Deng Xiao Peng?

Will younger PRC Chinese and future descendants remember what Mr Deng Xiao Peng done right for China?

Demolish heritage, historical records are easy --- a few hours job.

Preserving heritage, historical records are precious --- because future descendants can learn alot of the historical lessons that our ancestors has done - right or wrong --- and learn important lessons from it --- so as not to repeat past mistakes.
