Many posts here hint that the technology for driverless bus are not ready.
But to be honest, the technologies are more or less here - except it need to be able to be extremely sensitive to the road conditions and able to respond like a driver bus.
Eg.
(1) Cruise missiles like the Tomahawk - has the GPS and sensors to navigate and update its map as it cruise along the terrain in a high speed. Driverless bus is of similar vein except it navigate at a lower speed.
(2) Driverless car or trucks are used in ports to carry commercial goods.
(3) Driverless cars are already being piloted except are not deployed enmass on road.
(4) Robots are already widely used in restaurants, homes, malls etc - with sensors and able to navigate and inter-mingle with crowds.
(5) Driverless MRT (running on fixed track) have been in operation for many years - and if door for entry and exit are blocked - will re-open and MRT will not move.
Thus more or less, the technologies for driverless buses are there - except need to fine-tune and conditioned on the road - to ensure safety.

In fact, more concern are those bus captains that may lose their jobs if driverless buses go full blown.
But also understand that even for driverless bus or cars, a warm body need to be on the wheel ready to take over when there is emergency.
If this is the case, the bus captain job will still be secured.
