Trump think that he can bully a Country with smaller Economy than his.
But now Trump learn that in a trade war, Trump will also be hurting US Economy - even though US can be many times the size of the smaller Economy.
Let US businesses get back to Trump - that there will be collateral damage when Trump bully its trading partners.

Trump think that when he run US as President, he can run like CEO of Trump empire - by bullying his contractors will a slew of lawyers behind him.
Governing is different. If Trump is not able to collaborate and cooperate with foreign Countries, Trump will harm the interest of US.

Economic interest.
Social interest.
Political interest.

Trump is far from possessing the Wisdom to understand the above - and treat US Allies like he is running his Trump empires as a group of Trump contractors.

When Trump mismanage his business ventures, the worst that can come to Trump - is to declare bankrupt and shutdown his business ventures - in which he has been doing in some of his business ventures.
But when Trump is running the Country --- Trump cannot bully other Countries especially US Allies, Trading partners, Security partners.
Even a small Country can cause collateral damage to US - if Trump mismanage the foreign relationship.

For eg. Trump by mindlessly canceling the TPP - led TPP members to rechannel trade deal with China and EU - causing future business losses to many US business.
