The real crux of the issue :-
No.1 - is the political ideological differences – and feeling the spaces is narrowing – ie. Democracy vs Communism political system. This in fact – the most fundamental, unspoken uneasiness.

No. 2 - Territorial dispute is the extrapolation – to want a buffer to push out the narrowing of spaces.
No. 3 – Historcial baggages arising from WW2 – complicate & compounded the issues further.
No. 4 – Addressing the North Korea nuclear issue – will have to take all the above into consideration – when eliciting China’s help to resolve the issue – not to forget eliciting Russia’s help.
In fact resolving Asia Pacific issues – are much more complex than
Middle East.

Have to handle the Asia Pacific issues carefully - if any mis-communication and mis-handling due to failure to understood the underlying psyche - may erupt into a big fight in sudden escalation - and no reaction time to stop the fight.

The underlying psyche is China is uneasy about US political system of democracy - that is threatening the China communist political system - and the fear that the meddling will bring chaos into China.
It is a legitimate concern.
Unless China does not feel such a threat, or perceived threat, otherwise the Asia Pacific tension that arise from time to time will surface.
Political forces that has a stake in this region will have to handle this very carefully and understand the China psyche. Otherwise, a big fight will erupt without anyone got the hint how it started.
Another thing, if Japan is able to come up to resolve her historical past - with a good indication of Repentance or Atonement - will help to cool the tension in the Asia Pacific Region.
(In fact, this is the "main key" to stabilise the Asia Pacific region).
Never underestimate the historical karma seeds - it can turn very ugly. Haiz --- keep repeating this but no results ... sometimes must as well let things happen and probably can learn from the manifestation of the karma.
