This article which mention that our Smart Nation does not have a success story - is not fully true.
Singapore are actually quite advance in exploiting IT - whether in social interaction, business dealings, communication, day-to-day transaction, consumption, shopping, retailing, transport etc
Briefly mention

(1) Big Data (Meta Data) - that can search big data and information on the web to collect information and facilitate business transaction, decision making, research, product and service comparison, consumption etc.
(2) Online education - use by University, Polytechnic, education institutions to facilitate online learning, registration, tracking, certification, upgrade new skills etc.
(3) Cashless transaction, ePayment - such as paywave, now have paynow, paylah etc
(4) CCTV online surveillance - that help to deter crime, arrest criminals, deter terrorism etc
(5) Online eRetail shopping - eg. Lazada, Alibaba, Amazon, Qoo1o etc that can buy discounted goods and services - and faciliate online logistics, distribution, delivery etc.
(6) Social interaction and business communication via tools such as whatsapp, facebook, email, sms etc
(7) eBanking - eg. to perform cash transfer, payment, deposit, etc.
(8) eGovernment - eg. efiling on income tax, road tax payment,
(9) up-to-date information on bus arrival, mrt arrival through electronic display board that are using gps to track bus and mrt arrival and departure.
(10) Rental bike eg. obike, mobike etc
(11) Taxi, Grab, Uber - apps driven call private transport.
(12) Wireless, wired access to internet, social media platform, online reading of news, do online postings (including flaming one another) etc.
(13) SG secure apps to combat terrorism.
(14) Using autonomous drone, remote-control drones - for homeland security, military, business delivery, environmental monitoring etc.
(15) Using sensors, signaling, monitoring to detect and monitor faults such as water pipe, mrt track, electrical usage etc.
(16) ERP2 - using sensors, gps, satellite for road pricing of vehicles travelling on the road.
(17) Automated car park system that utiliise IU for car park payment.

There are so many success story of exploiting IT in making Singapore a smart nation. why this article say Singapore does not have a success story for a smart nation?
Rather there should be more integrated approach in collecting, organising, usage of vast array and varied IT data - and translate them into a more unified and integrated form to further sharpen our competitive edge in business, governance, social, consumption etc.
For eg. data collected by cloud providers, data generated by IoT, sensors, cctv videos, social media platform etc.

Information and data is "King".

Those who have accessed to the "right information and data" - use it meaningfully and correctly - will bring financial benefits, break into new business sectors, new ways of conducting business plus many other benefits.

So master of Smart Nation - is how to exploit "data and information" - for competitive advantage.

For eg. through advanced search, through meta data analytics :-
(1) businessman can source and make comparison of competitive products other than its traditional source of supply and as a result get better pricing for its raw materials - and thus result in higher profit.
(2) businessman can rely less on a big sales force or big procurement team - thus result in lower cost
(3) businessman can find alternative markets, new customers etc. - result in more business, higher revenue, translate in higher profits.
