We be-friend Taiwan since 1970.
We be-friend China since 1990.
Now China become more powerful and want us to "dump" our friend Taiwan.
What if another powerful Country come on board and want us to "dump" China, will we "dump" China?

Singapore policy is to be friends to as many Countries in the World as possible. As Singapore know - make one more friend, make one less enemy.
Why does China take away our rights as Singapore is a Sovereign Country.

Singapore as a very small Country, a little red dot ---- is the first Country to go to a large Communist Country --- to advise China to open its Economy up - to change from a Planned Economy to become a Market Economy ---- many decades ago.
At that time is a Cold War - where the West & East is divided not only politically but also economically.
Against all odd, Singapore, a little red dot step into China territory to advise the then President Deng Xiao Peng to open up the Economy - so that China can prosper.
Now, if Singapore don't have the courage, defying all odds from the Capitalist Countries - to step into a politically and economically different from us and bravely advise China to open up, will China ever open up?
Why Singapore do it?
Because Singapore want to be-friend as many Countries in the World ---- so that the World can be a more peaceful place.
As Singapore know, making one more friend, there will be one less enemy.
If Singapore has not done so ........

If by Universal Law of Karma --- China's billion of people's prosperity - in large part, is due to Singapore good faith to advise China to open up ----- a "daredevilish act" that is frightening to China at that time, as the then President Xiao Ping say ----- "he is worried that houseflies, mosquitoes and all garbage will come in when China open up".
At that time, Singapore say, "we will do it together with you" ---- which lead to the Suzhou, Tianjin and now Chongqing.
Even when Li Kah Shing pull out their investment during the recent difficult economic reform, Singapore pour in more investment and standby with China to do it together.
How does this make Singapore a "hypocrisy" as claim by this Chinese paper?

Will like to ask China, without Suzhou Industrial Park, will foriegn investors set foot into China?
Suzhou through Singapore and China collaboration is the catalyst that bring an influx of foreign investors to China.
So how is "hypocrisy" as claim by this Chinese paper - confer on Singapore?

Yes. HongKong acted because China is unhappy with the newly elected Taiwan President.
And using Singapore as a scapegoat.
With the former 马英九, China has no problem.

Singapore won't allow armoured carriers incident to hijack ties with China: Balakrishnan
SINGAPORE: Singapore will not allow any single issue to hijack its relationship with China, Foreign Affairs Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said on Tuesday (Nov 29).
The minister was at a Straits Times forum responding to questions on the seizure of Singapore’s Terrex armoured carriers by Hong Kong customs. The nine carriers were believed to be used in the Singapore Armed Forces’ overseas training in Taiwan.
“You all know, and everyone including China knows, that we have special arrangements with Taiwan for a long time. What we are doing there is no longer a secret, everybody knows that,” he said.
Dr Balakrishnan said Singapore has a longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship with China, though there may be disagreements from time to time.
But Singapore has been “very consistent and transparent” in the position that it takes, even if differences in perspectives emerge, he said.
On Monday, China's Foreign Ministry said that it "made representations" to Singapore over the incident.
"The Chinese government has always firmly opposed countries that have diplomatic ties with China to have any form of official exchanges with Taiwan, including military exchanges and cooperation," said foreign ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang at a regular press briefing, adding that Beijing had asked Singapore to "stick to the One China principle".
Dr Balakrishnan reiterated Singapore’s stand that the country has not shifted from its support of the One China policy and that it values its longstanding relationships.
"One thing in Chinese culture is you never forget your old friends, people who were there with you in the beginning, people who were there with you through thick and thin, and surely in Chinese culture you appreciate this concept of loyalty to old friends," he said.
"At the same time, you know full well where I stand, and I believe in One China and we will not deviate from that, we have not changed."
