[9:59 am, 31/05/2021] +REACH: 📢 Topic 📢

An $800 million support package that includes enhanced wage subsidies under the Jobs Support Scheme (JSS) and rental relief will be rolled out to help businesses and workers cope with the impact of tightened Covid-19 restrictions.

💬 What are your views on the enhanced support measures for affected businesses, workers & individuals?

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced on Friday (May 28) that these support measures will include more wage subsidies for affected employers to retain workers, one-off payments for individuals and rental relief.

No additional draw on past reserves is expected at the moment, the ministry said, as the measures will be funded through reallocating development expenditure.

Speaking at a virtual press conference, Mr Wong added that the tightened measures have also been helping to curb the spread of the virus. "Therefore, we do not think there is a need for further tightening in our overall posture," he said. A fuller update will be given at a press conference by the multi-ministry task force on Covid-19 today (May 31).

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will address Singaporeans on the country's approach to tackling Covid-19 in a broadcast today (May 31) at 4pm.

[11:10 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: ok ok to answer Reach else no one reply

[11:11 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: ground feedback again is the usual some happy some not happy

[11:12 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: one aspect to look many sure does need help but their perception is wrong, they want 100% help or even more than what is allocated ....

[11:12 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: on the other hand getting this aid is neither easy also

[11:12 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: example i know of a case where a taxi uncle was trying to apply for some grant, he was given a stack of form to fill to prove certain requirement ...

[11:13 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: ok he might be applying for the wrong grant but at least the person servicing him could direct him to apply the correct grant, this will end up as a negative expereince

[11:13 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: is always somewhere down the line that gets screwed

[11:14 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: overall the public should now how much grant had been used regardless if it touches the reserved

[11:15 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: this is to instill prudency to all , doe snot meant we have money we can spend like fu er dai mindset (aka ah sia kia mindset)

[11:16 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: hope this give reach a touch of what is happening on the ground .. no one is actually say good or no good middle ground cos ppl can see the effects from the last shut down and understand the burden by all sectors

[11:22 am, 31/05/2021] +Smiley face: Kelvinn, well done, your ground zero feedbacks to many of us...

[11:22 am, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: 👍

[11:23 am, 31/05/2021] +REACH: Applications for Covid-19 Recovery Grant (Temporary) to begin June 3

Applications for the Covid-19 Recovery Grant - Temporary (CRG-T) will begin on Thursday (June 3) and end a month later on July 2.

The grant, first announced on Friday (May 28), is meant to assist lower- to middle-income workers who have been financially impacted by the latest Covid-19 restrictions.

More: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/applications-for-covid-19-recovery-grant-temporary-to-begin-june-3

[11:23 am, 31/05/2021] +Ken: It is normal, they just workers. Won’t go extra mile to help them take up the right grant.

Even during MPS I seen people don’t write useful details and just write for the sake of writing. As most don’t understand and if letter data presented is the same outcome is the same.

[11:23 am, 31/05/2021] +Smiley face: That which is written without much effort is seldom read with much pleasure.

—Lee Kuan Yew

[11:24 am, 31/05/2021] +Valli: Before disbursing the funds,  authorities should really go on the ground to check the specific companies as some companies are registered but is idle.

There are loopholes where companies are taking advantage of.

Some have multi companies registered under them.

[11:24 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: to add this grp of ppl the mindset no cure wan, not say i bad mouth but be socially responsible the grant is for the society .. dun believe go read up the article when govt announce support measure for fitness sector and got voices in there of displeasure

[11:26 am, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: this SPM, not sure what this COVID resource hub is for when got nothing

[11:29 am, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: nosource hub

[11:30 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: if these service ppl do not have details on how to direct ppl to the correct channel, more information must be provision ... else there will be more voices from the ground like "got say machim dun say better""take 700 like taking 7 million" , this 700 might be needy to certain industry of people not alot but it help them thru a few weeks

[11:31 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: compare to us happily typing and being keyboard warrior here, these 700 are temp life savers to ppl in taxi / phv / freelancer like tutors ....

[11:31 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: saying is very easy many but reality many of us are suffering too ...

[11:32 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: if wanna so society work make sure equipped these folks with correct information and not make the public run all over and up either they give up or get nothing , which is not a good thing for the govt to come ...

[11:34 am, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: hope later PM speech will allow 2 pax to a grp to dine in

[11:34 am, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: if not all the F&B and attractions die

[11:34 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: i hope we dun let loose so easily , the region is still in red ...

[11:34 am, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: from 13-June onwards

[11:37 am, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: thought we have all these great products...

[11:38 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: hardly depoly ... can ask all the factories or even companies with dine in (die-in) areas

[11:39 am, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: hope gym can reopen, with mandatory of having air filters

[11:39 am, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: or mask must be on all times

[11:39 am, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: or both

[11:41 am, 31/05/2021] +Valli: Should wait for the clusters to close before allowing this

[11:43 am, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: or only allow ppl to dine in for people with no exposure alerts

[11:43 am, 31/05/2021] +Jospeh Ong: To be fair, I think our Govt have already been doing a fantastic job, not just coming up with the assistance/grants, but also how quickly the funds have been disbursed.

There are definitely those who really don’t know what financial assistance they are eligible for, and/or how to apply for it. Maybe we can setup more “community outreach” teams to assist directly on top of the current media campaigns.

On the other end of the spectrum though, are fraudsters who take advantage of the situation to illegally enrich themselves. Assistance schemes/grants always seem to attract fraudsters who have no qualms exploiting loopholes and hide behind the letter of the law, intentionally misinterpreting the meaning/intent, at the expense of fellow Singaporeans who are in real need.

I think the Govt should also channel some resources towards uncovering and punishing such dishonest people. Explore whistleblower programs to complement official efforts.

Make the penalty disproportionately harsh so that people will think thrice before attempting it. Show that it’s not good enough to just follow the letter of law when the action obviously goes against its spirit.

[11:43 am, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: to those who think they can outsmart via cheating

[11:53 am, 31/05/2021] +Smiley face: One way is through IRAS, is this company inactive, domain, active or else?

What's was the last 3 years tax PAID? turnovers figures?

It must be a two-way for this noble reciproation efforts to reach out fullest and meaningfully - "NO ONE IS LEFT OUT"

[11:57 am, 31/05/2021] +Smiley face: Differentiate local or foreign entities, SME? Staffs strength too?

It is a complex indepth and length to ENSURE this government HELP will reach to the proper END points.

[1:22 pm, 31/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. This $800 million support package - is not a broadbase budget for everyone --- but a targeted assistance to those sectors, business and individuals - who are directly hit by the Phase 2HA lockdown.

2. Thus very clearly, those business such as tourism, retail, F&B, airlines, public transport etc as well as jobs in these sectors that are impacted due to no-pay leave, pay cut -- should apply for this support package.

3. Those business sectors and workers whose jobs or pay are not affected should not apply for the support package --- so that right financial assistance should be given to those that needed them.

4. For all individuals that need to stay at home to work and to study - electricity and water bill will go up. But I believe the U-save GST voucher that are given to the various strata of HDB household ---- should be able to subsidies the increase in power and water bill due to the need to work and study at home.

5. Also the GST voucher to be dispense in Jun and Aug 2021 - for lower and middle income earners as well as the CDC $100 voucher that will be dispensed at a later date - will help to cushion the impact of Phase 2HA lockdown.

6. We need to be careful on how we use our Budget - in particular the needs to dig into our financial reserves - as they are our many generations of hard-earned collective accumulation of National Wealth - that are vital to sustain our Country and our future generations.

Mutants on mutants discovered in Vietnam.

Hybrid of B1617 and B117 mutants found.

31 of 63 cities infected in Vietnam.

Speed of infection unimaginable.

Vietnam like Taiwan and Australia are champions in border control, snap lockdown and speedy contact tracing.

But these 3 Countries are slow in vaccination.

Now these 3 Countries suddenly exploded with mutants variants that spread like wildfire.

Thus, good social distancing measures are not the best solutions.

Ramping up mass vaccination is the best solutions - as can be seen in Israel, US, UK, EU, and now Mexico and Canada joining the elite clubs - with plummeting infection, reopening of their Economy as their mass vaccination seen very positive outcome.

B1617 double mutants will dorminate the whole world.

The best weapon is mass vaccination.

The 1 death is not vaccinated.

[1:54 pm, 31/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

I wonder whether can she be vaccinated as protection once she diagnosed as covid infected?

Could this help in subduing the infection like any other vaccinated ones?

[1:54 pm, 31/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Wonder can Mandatory vaccination be imposed for anyone that need to be hospitalised - if found to be medically eligible to be vaccinated with covid vaccination.

[1:54 pm, 31/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

This will help to prevent serious illness or death from covid complications.

[1:54 pm, 31/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Or will the oral polymerase inhibitor pill - that are currently on trial by pharmaceutical companies such as Merck, Pfizer etc - that are used to treat covid by purging the virus in the body within 5 days be used?

[5:15 pm, 31/05/2021] +Alvin Lim: My views are as follows.

1) Doing very well so far. Applaud the test kits for sale soon and testing as a new normal so we can enjoy events and gatherings in the future.

2) Good that gov target kids first as they seem to be particularly vulnerable for new variant. Another Visionary move I may say.

3) My concern is the number of open clusters and unlink ones. Currently we have 39 open clusters and 20+ unlinked cases per week. If we allow dine-in too early in June we might have another wave of infection.

My 2.14 cents

[6:07 pm, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: Positive

[6:07 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: Or worse, what if it throws up a false negative and the person goes about his/her daily life even though the virus is incubating or lagi worse, showing mild symptoms??

[6:07 pm, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: See doc still cheaper.

[6:07 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: espically those with combo symptoms

[6:07 pm, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: $10

[6:07 pm, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: Test kit think will cost more

[6:07 pm, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: Got no medicine also

[6:08 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: suggest we tackle the base issue first

[6:08 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: like how to kick ppl to see doctor

[6:08 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: espically those combo type

[6:08 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: fever + running nose ; fever + die-rear: fever + cough - alert 1 level

[6:08 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: OK lah, at least yesterday don't have the "showed symptom on x date but didn't seek medical attention"

[6:09 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: yesterday only

[6:09 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: sakali tomorrow we see every day have symptons on x see doc y

[6:09 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: hahahaha

[6:09 pm, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: Maybe paste this at each test kit. Like cigarettes box

[6:10 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: i think at every RC notice board is good

[6:11 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: Yesterday's ST had an article that talks about the symptoms where people should go to a doc. At least 1 symptom of fever, headache, cough, runny nose, diarrhoea, body aches.

[6:13 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: actually 1 is very subjective

[6:13 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: cos example ladies mthly will have such symtpoms headache

[6:14 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: but fever is a no no must go

[6:14 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: like smokes some smoke after 1 stick will cough like tio tb but after a while is ok

[6:14 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: how to classify such case

[6:14 pm, 31/05/2021] +Caleb: Everyone know their own body best

[6:14 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: some take msg (since many need to da bao now) will kenna here ache that ache and headache .. how

[6:15 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: this one need medical ppl to come scope down further

[6:15 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: but no excuse for combo

[6:15 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: Hannor. And people with arthritic conditions will have bodyache everyday...

[6:15 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: is the single symptoms that is stopping ppl from gong to see doc i think

[6:15 pm, 31/05/2021] +BP: Behavioural science la... So the policy and strategy got good intent.... It is the execution that will generate confusion or negative feedback loop

[6:16 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: is always the down stream of instruction that diverts somehow

[6:16 pm, 31/05/2021] +BP: Urge to walk thru the execution

[6:16 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: B become p

[6:16 pm, 31/05/2021] +BP: b d p q

[6:17 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: those in army will understand

[6:17 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: But I feel that maybe the issue holding people back from going to see a doctor is the MC policy. Cos 14 days will run out damn fast. And some companies esp the SMEs frown on their people taking MC.

I'm not sure if there's already a guidance note issued by MOH or MOM, but the MC policy shouldn't become an impediment to people delaying to see the doctor. If push comes to shove, it may require a regulation for companies to suspend MC policy during this pandemic.

[6:18 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: also local work culture

[6:18 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: if boss see u kenna too many shn (due to symptoms) will think you chao geng

[6:19 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: yes we cannot exclude the % of chao geng as well

[6:19 pm, 31/05/2021] +BP: No need army la... Those coding will know also... need to take care of errors

[6:21 pm, 31/05/2021] +BP: This bopian... if the intent is to open and not lag behind from other countries eg US, then there is trade off need to make.  Between tackling Chao Geng and biz not able to operate, the employer has to weigh himself

[6:23 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: If the bosses can't trust this person, then why still keep this person employed right? And as a boss, whether this is a chao keng kia or a legit case, can tell one what.

[6:23 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: not many mgt think openly even in mnc with the non local they will think local chaos keng

[6:23 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: is a very bad culture

[6:24 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: i rather the chao keng dun come cos is a calculated risk -> who know it is real anot right

[6:24 pm, 31/05/2021] +BP: Racism?  Something we should shoot them?

[6:25 pm, 31/05/2021] +Simon: Agreed

[6:25 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: And honestly, a boss who thinks that a person is a good worker is chao keng kia just because he/she has weak health is not worth working for lah.

[6:25 pm, 31/05/2021] +Simon: 👍

[6:26 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: Like for ladies (at least for me), I normally get very bad cramps and I need to be out at least 1 or 2 days a month. Of course I do make up for my absence on other days, but it's not like I can choose not to feel the pain.

[6:28 pm, 31/05/2021] +Simon: Actually many staff nowadays suddenly no MCs as I think the common flu has also been curbed by everyone’s wearing masks

[6:28 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: nothing to do with racisim and please dun go there

[6:28 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: It is i said somewhere before wear a mask is actually a good thing

[6:28 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: cos in asean we have very bad social manners

[6:29 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: puttin on a mask can make one less sick espically to airborne sickness

[6:29 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: of cos help with those who are bad breathe also

[6:29 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: hahahaha

[6:30 pm, 31/05/2021] +Simon: Yes. The new normal

[6:30 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: actually is not new

[6:30 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: sorry ugly word from typo

[6:31 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: the stigma with ppl is mask means u are a sick man with terrible sickness and you should not be in public

[6:31 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: i had personally tired putting on mask for 2 years way before covid due to my job nature and hey i dun fall sick that often

[6:32 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: Eh can I just say here (sorry to digress), but some reporters quite no manners ah. Like Salma from Straits Times, the way she asked the question earlier was so aggressive and rude!! Even with the best intentions, a bad tone just throws everything out the window. That was so rude!

[6:32 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: maybe that time of the mth she cannot control

[6:32 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: hormones at play

[6:33 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: Yeah, indeed. When I had the flu previously and I wore a mask to office, literally EVERYONE asked me what was wrong with me. Like my name suddenly became Disease

[6:33 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: i was even label

[6:33 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: Eh.... That's sexist....... Rude is rude. Nothing to do with hormones please. If men are rude, no one asks them "hormones ah?"

[6:34 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: yes mans is menopaused worst (starting as early as 30s)

[6:34 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: hais u dun wan meet a man with that is worst den lady....

[6:37 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: Wah lau... This kind really damn aggro about everything, damn bullish about their decisions and think they're always right. And I notice it's always an all or nothing, either their (very wrong) way or the highway. OK lor. You want to die I let you die.

[6:37 pm, 31/05/2021] +BP: I think is the mental model and culture in our employment.  If you read some mgmt publication recently, most talents want to have flexibility in working hours and mode  - not 9-5 in office.

Trust, adaptability and flexibility need to be ex by employers to attract these talents.

Old mindset will not help.

They're squeezing everybody into smaller work spaces by moving them into cubicles!! All I'm seeing is a petri dish where people are sitting in close proximity for 8 hours....

It doesn't stop the air around you from being contaminated what. Alternate seats still OK, but packed side to side and facing each other. Omg....

[6:49 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: not refer to thos eindividual those ok lah is u and urself

[6:49 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: but in the public open office all dun wear mask

[6:49 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: faint

[6:50 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: Exactly lor. This kind I damn scared. Shock and horror.... And SDAs don't ever walk into the offices one. Only if people baotoh then the company will kena

[6:51 pm, 31/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: no will not kenna they are given 3 to 4 times of warning den only a smack on their hands

[6:51 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: Eeyer...... Then when cluster, they blame the person.

[6:52 pm, 31/05/2021] +Matthew: I think both employers and employees have parts to play. A lot of times it also boils down to personal responsibility. Companies can have policies and reminders, but it's really up to the employees to abide also.

HR/Management cannot be expected to monitor every single employee's movement and micromanage everyone. A lot of employees remove masks to drink water/coffee/tea but slowly drink for a long time; it makes it very hard for the HR/management to enforce too (cos the HR/management will look bad if they tell the employee to finish drinking the coffee within 2min, for example)..

[6:55 pm, 31/05/2021] +Simon: Eh wrong chat ah. Dun make us hungry leh😁

[6:56 pm, 31/05/2021] +CQ: Companies can ensure that the quota is adhered to, and the people coming in are not sitting in desks which are immediately opposite/adjacent to each other. At least that limits the spread somewhat. Of course, the employees also have to deal with the masks, so WFH if you can lar... But when both the companies and employees don't play ball, that's when everything goes downhill.

A risk-based approach will be taken in allowing travel for Singaporeans in the coming months, even as more of Singapore's population gets vaccinated, said Finance Minister Lawrence Wong on Monday (May 31).

More: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/ability-to-travel-overseas-will-still-depend-on-risk-profile-of-countries-lawrence-wong

[8:49 pm, 31/05/2021] +Elena Woo: Already our community are infected due to leakages through those imported cases. Now to remove quarantine for travellers from countries deem as safe? How safe is safe then? It seems to open up loopholes for new infections without quarantine?

[8:58 pm, 31/05/2021] +Valli: All travellers coming in & out, should make it mandatory to be vaccinated then allow entry.

[9:03 pm, 31/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. If impose overseas travellers to quarantine for 14 days - no tourists will come - because they will have to pay to stay in hotel for 14 days doing nothing - and pay high price per day in hotel.

2. Thus allowing tourists from low risk countries with test conducted before hand make more sense.

3. In fact, I support vaccinated overseas travellers. It will be safer for the community and the tourists - in this new normal.

4. As most if not all Singapore population are vaccinated - we are pretty much protected against the virus.

[9:08 pm, 31/05/2021] +Simon: 👍

[9:10 pm, 31/05/2021] +Ben: Yes vaccinated with a negative test on departure and a negative test on arrival, and a negative test every 3 days while here.

[9:11 pm, 31/05/2021] +Ben: Also for citizens already here. Once the simple test is ready then we can start opening up for vaccinated people who test negative regularly

[9:18 pm, 31/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:
1. Currently, SIA as a group is burning cash $150 million every month.
2. In endemic stage, where we have to coexist with covid like common flu or dengue fever - we will have to adapt ourselves to new normal - and revive our air hub and our tourism sector.
3. Testing, contact tracing and vaccination are our protection - when we adapt to new normal - while receiving overseas travellers.
4. Else our external economy cannot be revived.

[9:25 pm, 31/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:
5. Those who do not get Vaccination - become a high risk group - because they are not protected - but have to face the risk of exposure to infectious covid.
6. Hence eventually, Mandatory vaccination - will become a natural choice.
7. That's why, government announced vaccination strategy for all people including pregnant women, breastfeeding women, allergies people, children, those who refuse vaccination etc.
8. The idea is to cover every single one - so that every single people are protected - when we enter into an endemic stage.
9. This is the scenario with no choice - and the only choice.
10. Those not vaccinated - is suicidal.
