Tighter Covid-19 restrictions kicked in on Saturday (8 May), including social gatherings limited to 5 people instead of the previous 8, 50% staff at workplaces at all times instead of 75%,  and only low-intensity physical activities allowed in indoor gyms and fitness studios.

💬 Are you adapting well to the tightened measures? How can we as a community remain vigilant in the fight against Covid-19?

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has decreased from 50 cases in the week before to 39 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has increased from 10 cases in the week before to 13 cases in the past week.

Both Changi Airport & the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) have started testing airport & seaport workers. Commenting on the testing operations, Minister for Transport Ong Ye Kung said on Sunday evening that the one-time testing exercise for airport and seaport workers will serve as a reset button.

After any cryptic cases are picked up, more stringent measures will be put in place. For instance, higher risk workers who are exposed to seafarers and travellers will be separated from their colleagues, said Mr Ong.

A Covid-19 testing exercise is also under way at Victoria Junior College, after a 18-year-old student tested positive for Covid-19 last Friday.

[10:39 am, 10/05/2021] +Caleb: not well, I hope the covid situation will get better... we do not need to extend this phase 2.

[11:09 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Are you adapting well to the tightened measures? How can we as a community remain vigilant in the fight against Covid-19?

[11:10 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: i said this once i say again ..bring out the gore of the virus (is the after effects), and also bring out the grim if the economy have shut again

[11:11 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: but again if the local are doing so much, what can be done to those imported cases to make them understand the importance of their part to be played too

[11:11 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevin: Like that allowed?

[11:13 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevin: It’s already like 10 people in the first picture

[11:13 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: that's how things are spread .. these are the weakest link if they still insist on stupid belief ït is my rights , it is my freedom NOT TO wear mask" / it is inhumane not to allow me mingle with my friends / we have food in front of us why must wear mask, etc

[11:16 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: to further sent the message of WE WANT TO REDUCE INFECTION, empower more sda with immediate finds of 10k to ppl why need the police

[11:17 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: singaporeans good at doing loop holes stuff but one caught they should face the music and pay for their actions

[11:18 am, 10/05/2021] +Caleb: +1

[11:19 am, 10/05/2021] +Caleb: Think report to police for immediate response

[11:20 am, 10/05/2021] +Caleb: Can deploy those out of jobs like tour guide. Workers in gym

[11:24 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: the last i heard a batch of sda ambass is out of job due to contract non renewal

[11:24 am, 10/05/2021] +Alvin Lim: I think many people have let down their guard. Could be cabin fever and people tired of the restrictions for so long and yearn to go back to normal days. We could do this a few days.

1) More enforcement around places where people commit offenses.

2) More awareness on the ground to re-instill our SMM.

3) Continue driving vaccination for our population.

[11:24 am, 10/05/2021] +CQ: https://mothership.sg/2021/05/singapore-racist/

Oh dear...

[11:25 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: is time to put these ppl back ... no need retraining, pay i believe is good ... and now enforcement  with the power

[11:33 am, 10/05/2021] +Caleb: 👍

[11:35 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: is good to remin people the breech of any safety checks mask / no sd / being an arse to SDA or trying to loop hole - is fine of 10k and possible jail term applicable to all people on this island regardless u visitor / pr / ep / citizens whatever ...

[11:36 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: slap a few and u see what happen

[11:36 am, 10/05/2021] +Caleb: 👍

[11:39 am, 10/05/2021] +Dan: Is MOM going to issue an advisory to ask domestic workers to stay at home?

[11:41 am, 10/05/2021] +Caleb: Or can Suntec and expo open for these ppl a meeting place. With SMM

[11:41 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: see typical loop hole breech again society teaching the authorities how to further fine and restrict

[11:41 am, 10/05/2021] +Caleb: Business for nearby FNB too

[11:48 am, 10/05/2021] +CQ: "We don't know each other" 😆😆😆

[11:49 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: yeah singaporeans very friendly and free ....hahahahahha

[11:50 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: really slapping ourselves in the face when the whole region (exlc china) is reporting rise in cases and all still take it very relax....

[11:50 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: seriously stop being kind and gentle show the gore

[11:50 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: time to wack some sense to the society

[11:51 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: either the society suffer now or be weight by by the after effects of c19 (besides medical there is financial worries also)

[11:56 am, 10/05/2021] +Ken: 😕

[11:57 am, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Really hard… we all don’t want conflict also… unless we are officer if not we rarely will feedback to the person

[11:57 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: thus more sda should be put on ground given them the power to make enforcement not to advise any more

[11:57 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: see what is happening in HK now

[11:57 am, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: We have move to a new phrase of Covid situation and we need to embrace  a new mindset .

We won’t get Low reported rate anymore since we are in a proactive situation to test as many Covid suspects as possible in Singapore  .

Especially that we can’t close borders and many OR European cities locked-down examples in has shown ineffectiveness in fighting variant spread.

So embrace the acceptance the Covid lives in our lives ;  stay social distance and remain hygienic (wash hands often etc )  whenever possible .

Beef up education and enforcement for this period to reinforce the good habits .

[11:59 am, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: thus it is impt the correct message is drive to the society (putting aside other reason), else all positive intents will be turn belly up .. hk is a very good case per say ....

[11:59 am, 10/05/2021] +Rama: I have a colleague who stays opposite bishan park. Every weekend,  it's full of expat Indians as he says.  A

[11:59 am, 10/05/2021] +Ken: SDA some also scare lol

[0:00 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: They can activate Enforcement officer when required

[0:00 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Two extreme…

Educated don’t want to take cause too much information

Not educated dont want to take cause they don’t know if it is good don’t understand also won’t take 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻

[0:01 pm, 10/05/2021] +Rama: SDA should always be accompanied by Auxiliary police officers

[0:01 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Cause the it is not deadly enough so many still not scare

[0:02 pm, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: sda should carry a sign either me or 10k fine + jail

[0:02 pm, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: hahahahahaha

[0:03 pm, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: c19 not deadly yeah .. wait till the after effects is wide spread

[0:03 pm, 10/05/2021] +Kevinn Wang: maybe to many the after effects is not scary but is like a slow tormented death to me

[0:32 pm, 10/05/2021] +REACH: Hostel residents in S'pore unis offered Covid-19 jabs as they live in a communal setting

[0:35 pm, 10/05/2021] +Boon Phing: SDA quite poor thing no power... people also sometimes ignore them.  Will it be better for each SDA team be augmented with a police or auxiliary police?

[0:36 pm, 10/05/2021] +Kevin: This one ok what. Less than 5 per table

[0:36 pm, 10/05/2021] +Boon Phing: Or each of the SDA has a body worn camera

[0:36 pm, 10/05/2021] +Boon Phing: No interaction between table la

[0:40 pm, 10/05/2021] +Rama: Not enough

[0:42 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: They can escalate to Enforcement Officer when required .   Basically they are being appointed to be ‘nice’

[0:42 pm, 10/05/2021] +Boon Phing: Nice is not something to go for when someone is aggressive towards them

[0:43 pm, 10/05/2021] +Boon Phing: The response time could be too slow as well

[0:46 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: Being SDA myself . The aggressive  is the super minority .    Usually friendly reminders from  SDA addressed most stuff .

That all have a mindset change please . He is an Ambassador.

The aggressive cases has tampered down a lot already . We still see the few . These are the hardcore that even Police has hard time to manage them .

[1:45 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Last week, the infection number is still high. New clusters are forming.

2. This week, the Phase 2 restriction measures has just kicked in - I think we should monitor if the infection number will taper down.

3. This week is very crucial to determine if the restriction measures are effective or not. We only have 3 weeks (21 days) to see whether the infection number will come down or not and whether not many new clusters formed.

4. These restriction measures are means to:-

a. cut the transmission chain - to prevent people gathering and spread to one another - so as to make covid harder to jump from host to host.

b. to test the people in identified clusters and those in close contacts and in the same vicinity - to detect those infected - so as to isolate them and prevent them from spreading.

5. 3 weeks (21 days) later (31 May 2021) - we shall do a stocktake to see whether these restriction measures are effective in reducing the infection number.

a. If the infection number go down significantly and no more new clusters are forming - then the restriction measures are effective - and we can then determine whether to relax the restriction measures or not.

b. If the infection number sometimes go up and sometimes go down and more new clusters are forming - then extending the restriction measures for another 21 days (3 weeks) maybe required to let the restriction measures stabilise and take effects.

c. However, if the infection number has still not go down, or worst increase or more and more new clusters are discovered - then even tigher restriction measures maybe necessary - by moving back into Phase 1 from Phase 2.

Hopefully, this will not be necessary as some businesses and daily-rated jobs have been moderately affected even by moving back to Phase 2.

If Phase 1 need to be activated, more severe impact on the businesses and jobs will be expected. When this happen, cannot guarantee that Government may again need to prepare any Budget to cushion the impact.

Let us hope Phase 1 and additional Budget will not be necessary.

[1:49 pm, 10/05/2021] +REACH: SPH restructuring: High-quality media reporting news 'by S'poreans for S'poreans' essential to the national interest, says S Iswaran

In a ministerial statement on Monday (May 10), Minister for Communications and Information S Iswaran said that a high-quality, professional and respected media with Singaporean journalists reporting news for Singaporeans is essential to the fabric of the nation.

He told the House that Singapore's media is keenly attuned to the country's unique circumstances as a small city-state with a multiracial society and an open economy that is dependent on trade.

[1:55 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. I read with concern that quite a number of fully vaccinated 2 jabs people are infected.

This is something that is difficult for me to reconcile - as I read that Israel have very positive outcome after vaccination - as compared to ours.

I understand that about 4 to 6% will still breakthrough a vaccinated person as the vaccine have 95% efficacy.

But my feeling is, in Singapore seems like a higher number of fully vaccinated people can be infected - which I don't see this happening in Israel (despite many variants are discovered in Israel).

2. Can we request a breakdown in a table form - of how many people are infected that are :-

a. Fully vaccinated with 2 jabs (which vaccines) - in which clusters and what virus strains cause the infection.

b. Vaccinated with 1 jab (which vaccines) - in which clusters and what virus strains cause the infection.

c. Unvaccinated - in which clusters and what virus strains cause the infection.

3. The table will give us a bird eyes view of which virus strain - can penetrate fully vaccinated people --- and we can have a better understanding of the vaccination vis-a-vis the efficacy against the various variants.

----

[1:56 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Strange, Israel has very good outcome from 2 jabs from Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

2. Wonder why Singapore got quite a number of 2 jabs vaccines - got infected?

Why Singapore outcome don't reflect Israel outcome?

3. MOH should do a deeper study to find out why.

4. Israel outcome should be the expected outcomes after 2 jabs vaccination.

[2:17 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

SPH can look at how tik tok, YouTube monetize data.

May have to split mainstream news and social media platforms into 2.

Earn revenue through social media to finance the mainstream media.

[2:18 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: They are too conservative to venture to such market

[2:25 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Video content is very important to pull in readers.

2. Readers participations also very important to attract viewership.

3. Only then can attract online advertisement.

4. And monetise data and content.

[2:29 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: They spin off the news media .

[2:30 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: They keep the revenue generating business

[2:30 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Oh…. Didn’t read the details..

[2:31 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: The idea is ensure SPH don’t bleed till death with the news/ journalists’ media arm .

[2:32 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: News is a public good in Singapore .  It is expected free so we got to accept this outcome .  Same as SMRT .

[2:32 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

MediaCorp is successful because of video content.

SPH only news and data - harder to attract advertisement revenue.

SPH must ramp up the video content.

[2:32 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: So government will be paying for the lost. If having a national newspaper that run on govement funding 🤣 so mediaCorp and SPH Fully funded by govemrnt

[2:33 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: We don’t even advertise much on the trains 🤦🏻

Waste of so much commercial space

[2:33 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: SPH ? The press holding yes .. but not the property holding .. lol

[2:34 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: Haha .. very few in SG believe in traditional advertising .

[2:35 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: So left with MediaCorp . TV still got its appeal until it is disrupted further .   By then zero advertising.. they probably asked the same thing eg NHK , BBC

[2:35 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: If it does not work why so many did it overseas? In develop countries 😒

Train screen don’t have anything but next station information lol.. waste money with no means of recovering cost at all

[2:36 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Not really I don’t watch mediaCorp other than local news

[2:36 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: That is the culture thing here and our market is small for billboard advertising

[2:37 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: You are just like many in SG   ..  MediaCorp will soon be in trouble because of lower viewership

[2:38 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: I don’t even know who is who on the star award lol I was like who are they 🤣🤣

[2:38 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Already lost hard to bring back.. don’t see how they can bring back with overseas having big cast and budget that we can never imagine with so little viewership.

[2:39 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Starhub and Singtel gonna lose their tv market very soon..

[2:39 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: This is worrisome .  Just like our football too . We consume overseas sports and entertainment media much more our local .  It is inevitable that we lose our local media stations and companies

[2:39 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: So income streams get tie down further

[2:40 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: Already lost cause for both.. they are just sustaining .

[2:41 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Disney plus, Netflix, etc…

I can’t imagine how they will win back.

Price lose, content lose, accessibility lose lol.. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[2:41 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: SingTel is most disrupted among all the local telcos  .  The red has to transform fast or they soon will disappear .

[2:42 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: Yup .  Don’t forget the IPTV too .. they challenge the norms

[2:42 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Very worrisome for local business as internet make us very open. Also means higher competition from aboard they can’t innovate, we will lose them forever.

[2:43 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Local giants, only banks are doing well and expanding outwards.

SIA was good till Covid hit hope they can survive with their logistic wing.

[2:44 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: Yes .  You are absolutely right .  The most media/design creative people here has to find work in foreign firms .  Either we create startups OR uphold companies like SingTel .  Our choice is very little to uphold our industry .

[2:45 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: That’s why we need to change mindsets to compete .

[2:45 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: The most problem we have are we are just too good at creating professional workers lol..

End up we lose the creative edge

[2:46 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Good ones all end up in MNCs and we don’t celebrate enterprising individual.

Most will think are you crazy to quit your jobs to do business 🤣

[2:46 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: Not true .. creative people are plenty . Problem is they we are not creating demands for them to stay here.

Many top SG media/creative are working overseas .

[2:47 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Not creative… I mean being open

[2:48 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: Agree . Good one attracted to MNC;

Don’t forget .. they go to the foreign land MNC also .

Eg I heard many Singaporeans work at MNC eg. Google UK and US . They applied jobs there when they graduated or  some flew there for the jobs

[2:49 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: My wife don’t let me go 😭

[2:50 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: Pls lor.  Talents got legs and they travel . We have real brain drain issues here  where many don’t recognise .    So the G got to keep our door open to attract and also replace lost - talents too .

[2:50 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: The work environment is really just too good here… being too comfortable lol that restrict us to make the leap

[2:50 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: You are not alone .  I chose here because of family .

[2:51 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Wife say we have house here, no need worry about anything why need to go. Earn so much money for what? 😅

[2:51 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: 🤷🏻‍♂️

[2:52 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Think most spouse, if we earn decent super hard to move. With kids even harder

[2:52 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: Not true if we observe in depth .

Actually it is pretty more fun to work with office full of smarter people elsewhere ..  weekend can drive out for holidays .  Also do the real BIG data and planning stuff .

[2:52 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Alternatively we have some business do well. Example venture a local company..

[2:53 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: Yes . I made a choice for my kids too.  As I see it today , I don’t completely agree with my decisions

[2:54 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Oh well just have to work harder go up higher so can go as expat. If not dreams of moving is hard

[2:56 pm, 10/05/2021] +Leonard Lau: Your talent as I see it .. Bluntly overseas .

In Stem just the case for My elder who  is going to NUS Chem Engineering  ; I am preparing to lose him for good .  He got to look beyond SG .

We got to convince ourselves to look beyond SG.

[3:05 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Lol can bring me too? I also chem eng 🤣🤣 senior from NUS 😝

[3:09 pm, 10/05/2021] +65 9893 1777: Workers at site also not wearing mask or holding one.

[3:16 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ben: Did you mean first day since June with no deaths? That's what the report read. I didn't realise the death rate in Israel was so high!

[3:18 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Yes.

Israel vaccination very successful.

That's why I can't reconcile the outcome of vaccination against ours.

Our quite a number of fully vaccinated people infected.

[3:21 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Israel has slowly going back to pre-covid state.

Wait for end may 2021 to see whether everything stabilized or not.

[3:49 pm, 10/05/2021] +YT: People generally can't behave. If they want to be treated like children, they should get their wish granted. I wish/hope/plea/ to the authorities to please take decisive and punitive actions against these people before it's too late. Why are they so lax this time around? Perhaps the ministers enjoy circuit breaker so that they don't need to work so hard in public? Come on, do something to get people to comply!

[3:50 pm, 10/05/2021] +Desmond Koh: +1

The person in the video is a SDEO not SDA..

The poor guy Likely from STB, SFA, NEA or SLA (Lau Pat Sat managed by SLA)

[3:51 pm, 10/05/2021] +Desmond Koh: Yea that’s why P2 till end May

Heard 2nd jab can cause headache, or fatigue or fever.

Let see how tommorrow.

[3:58 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Oh that’s the one lol

[3:58 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Take care and rest well

[4:00 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: From this Covid shows our stability as a country. Makes more key productions to be build in Singapore which is a good thing

[4:00 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Lucky that we are identified as strategic location for production

[4:01 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Singapore can do well in controlling the pandemic and growing our economy.

Currently we are subdue by the pandemic. But I think we can emerge and rebound.

[4:03 pm, 10/05/2021] +Ken: Hopefully we can woo some semiconductor back to Singapore…

As we have stable water supply lol… so much high grade water but no one to sell, dilute back to reservoir 🤣

[4:04 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Singapore has many semiconductor plant - nxp, Qualcomm, tsmc, Samsung etc.

Previously we have stat but sold off already.

[4:06 pm, 10/05/2021] +Rama: Great

[4:09 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

This is the reason why I propose Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

Because we will have a good fallback right at our own backyard.

In future if we need any booster shots - our plant here can produce.

[4:10 pm, 10/05/2021] +Rama: Done both my jabs. Awaiting booster in eighteen months if necessary.

[5:09 pm, 10/05/2021] +Shane: I wonder if we are really out of talented individuals that we need to get a retired person to come back to take the helm. After all he really has no expertise in this area though I understand he is a problem fixer ..

‘Double Mutant’ Covid Variant: Here’s What We Know As Israel Reports Vaccine Efficacy Against Variant First Detected In India

[5:49 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

I think if MOH map up the vaccines, infected ones and the variants will give us a good indication how effective against the various strains.

In Israel, there are 8 imported cases of India double mutants - but they are isolated.

The rest of variants have been in community but effectively curb by the vaccines in Israel.

In Singapore, India double mutants have infiltrate into our community and seems to be infecting the fully vaccinated people.

So need MOH to map out properly before we can deduce our outcomes versus Israel outcome.

If worst come to worst - by looking at the mapping - if India double mutants is the main culprit that brings about differences in outcome with Israel - then a booster shot to curb the India double mutants could be the right solution.

[6:51 pm, 10/05/2021] +Kevin: Good night Megan

[6:51 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Unless the world is safe.

Then we can be safe.

If we close our borders, many businesses and jobs will die.

Thus we must do calibrated open up.

At the same time, we must protect ourselves by properly vaccinating ourselves and adopt safe distancing measures such as wearing masks.

Untill the world vaccinated with herd immunity - then I think we can emerge and return back to pre-covid state.

[6:52 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Getting biontech to open their plant here - is an excellent strategic move.

[6:54 pm, 10/05/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Most important we must not let racial hatred take hold.

Some people reaction to the Indian people is uncall for.

We must not end up like US Asian racist attack.
