Dear REACH contributors, welcome back!
Our chat will be open from 1pm to 10pm today.
📢Topic:📢
In the interview with CNN, PM Lee said that everyone’s cooperation - such as keeping safe distances from one another, watching our own personal hygiene, staying home when are sick and not going to work, and not socialising - are needed in this long battle against the virus.
* Have you observed improvements in safe distancing so far as you start your work week today? *
Thank you.
Megan 😃

1. If we succeed today in curbing community spread (using our proposed washable face masks) (as the last mile "Personal Social Distancing tool") - then Singapore does not need to go into Dorscon red - else we will have to resort to complete lockdown and every one stay home in curfew.

2. Economy will be crippled if a complete lockdown need to be imposed if community spreading become widespread.

[1:03 pm, 30/03/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
1. Yesterday 10 more unlink cases are discovered.

2. Total 88 unlink cases.

3. So community spreading is very real.

4. If infection rate go above hospital facilities capacity - Dorscon red is imminent unless the government adopt our washable face masks - the only way to stop community spreading now - to flatten the infection curve.

[1:03 pm, 30/03/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
1. PM Lee's commented that this pandemic could go on for a few years as it's spreading rapidly worldwide.

2. The only hope to effectively curb the spreading is until an effective vaccine and treatment are developed.

3. Washing hands with soaps and social distancing are now the only effective measures to prevent community spreading.

4. Putting on washable face masks (due to limited supply of disposal surgical masks) when we go out in public is a viable last mile Personal social distancing tool to implement social distancing.

[1:10 pm, 30/03/2020] : So Shld we wear mask or not if we are not sick

KS Foong
[1:17 pm, 30/03/2020] : If u could get a mask, wear the mask. We all know everywhere hv mask shortage and the goverment’s stock is reserved for healthcare and front line staff than manned our infrastructure.

[1:14 pm, 30/03/2020] : If you watch the video made by Czech Republic ..... they managed to control spread through the use of masks. Masks to be used when in public places.
[1:14 pm, 30/03/2020] : We may have to get tho this point someday.

[1:28 pm, 30/03/2020] : Mask Discussion: masks are not 100% virus proof. True but with 95 plus % protection is better than none. Masks protects you and the people around you. You dont give them virus, if any, and they dont give you virus, if any. Having little masks to spare is an excuse the Government can only use once. They have started or going to start their own production - like China did. Not protecting yourself and others in public is no excuse. If the no-link cases like 14-20 daily is like 1-5 daily, then I will shut up. But what I see is spread all around ...... I myself do not use a mask but I was wondering when I will be unlucky and be near one who is carrying the virus knowlingly or unknowlingly. And catch it. It iwll be a miserable 14-20 days whether is it mild or critical infection. My point is using mask shortage is no excuse for our government to keep pitching >>> wear masks only if you are sick.

(1) Just notice something very interesting :-
- Asia people like China, Japan, SKorea, HK --- many wear masks in public --- and their infection rate --- don't go up as high as Europe and USA --- where people don't wear masks in public.

Coronavirus - confirmed to be airborne!!!
Copper, Steel - 2 hours
Paper, Plastic - 3-4 hours
Air - 8 hours or more depending on conditions.

WHO reversed their earlier position that Covid virus is not air borne. Pls avoid all public places with aircon especially small or confined ones

[2:12 pm, 30/03/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
So everyone needs a mask now to protect against airborne virus - even for those who are not sick?

[2:12 pm, 30/03/2020] : Still in shortage?

[2:21 pm, 30/03/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
I think it is safer to err on the caution sides.

My close friend and my push for REACH to encourage people to wear a washable masks is not wrong while not depleting the disposable surgical masks for frontline health care staff.

It will provide some protection to the public and reduce community spreading.

No lah.

Let's REACH do it.

Our group work behind the background.

Leonard Lau
[2:37 pm, 30/03/2020] : Reach writes to Govt Agency .. Temasek is a private institution.

[2:42 pm, 30/03/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Last time we discuss the danger of using alcohol as sanitizer:-
- burn down houses
- burn lungs and make the virus more potent
- skin peeling off when too much used.

Temasek Foundation immediately respond with non alcohol sanitizer offer to all households.

Temasek also government link.

Joing contribution with my close friend :-
(1) Now with WHO announcement that covid-19 is also airborne - using face mask in public will have help to curb community spreading --- that is now happening in Singapore.
To date 88 unlink cae --- indicating community spreading.

(2) As we have to understand that global medical supply logistic chain is under tremendous strain and shortage - due to explosive outbreak across the World --- issuing disposable surgical masks to public will not be feasible - as they need to be reserved for frontline healthcare staff who are risking their lives to save the patients as well as to unwell patients.

(3) The next best option will be using washable face masks - to be wear by people who appear in public even though they are not unwell.
The reasons being, there must be some "mild asymptomatic cases" that is not visible and unknown to people -- who unwittingly spreading the virus around.
So even an innocent sneeze or cough --- may have ejected virus load into the air.
If public who are seen as "well" also wear washable face masks - then the chances of community spreading will be curb by people with "mild asymptomatic cases".
See a video the effect of people who look well ---- but ejecting their mucous and saliva in a sneeze without a mask or block with a tissue ---- it is imperative that a washable face masks ---- will turn out to be the last mile "Personal Social Distancing Tool" --- to tackle and combat community spreading and keep the unlink cases and clusters cases down.

(4) My close friend suggested Temasek Foundation - will be a good foundation to supply public with 2 washable face mask (like supplying "non-alcohol sanitizer" to help curb community spreading, the reasons being:-
- Temasek has many strategic companies - with strong science, medical and engineering expertise - that can help to produce products that are scientifically proven to be able to defeat the virus.
eg. "alcohol free" sanitizer can do the job - no need high alcohol content that is flammable and can harm skin.

- So we are quite confident that if Temasek Foundation support our ideas to provide 2 washable face mask (1 as spare - when 1 is washed as well as wear and tear) ----- that is medically, scientifcally to be able to protect against virus infiltration -- like surgical disposable mask ---- then it will give assurance to public that they will be adequately protected from community spreading.

(5) My close friend also suggest roping in non-profit organisation to help in producing the washable face mask - to expedite the production in order to reach so many millions of residents.
My close friend suggest that :-
- Those who can afford to pay for the masks should pay the money for the masks - as these non-profit organisations are not financially endowed.
- Those who want to buy more than 2 - will need to compulsory pay for the extra.
- Whereas for those who cannot pay (due to job loss, retire, business loss) etc or want to save up ---- should be issue free ---- as these virus pandemic is a Public Health Crisis ---- and everyone need to be protected.
- As part of an effort to raise fund for these non-profit organization - they can print their organisation as part of advertisement - to raise awareness and help in their cause to raise fund.

(6) My close friend further suggest that :-
The face mask can be printed and carry health safety messages like :-
- Stay Home,
- Stay Safe;
- You're too close for comfort; etc --- to reinforce the message of maintaining 1 meter "social distancing".

[8:16 pm, 30/03/2020] : 35 new Covid-19 cases in S'pore, 3 new clusters - a bar in Circular Road, a dormitory at Seletar North Link and a serviced apartment at Wilby Road
https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/35-new-covid-19-cases-in-spore-3-new-clusters-a-bar-in-circular-road-a-dormitory-at

[8:26 pm, 30/03/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Community spreading is definitely coming with more new clusters forming.

1. Washable face masks in public for healthy people will stop community spreading.

2. More extensive test with test kits to cover mild asymptomatic cases maybe needed.
