[6:45 PM, 3/2/2020] REACH:
Dear contributors
Welcome back! Some of you have asked for our chat group to be opened 24/7.

We are happy to receive this request, but at the end of the day, we also want to keep the sharing purposeful and conducive for all participants. Hence we will open our chat group from 6pm to 10pm every day to hear your views on the issue of the day.

Through the day, we will also put out materials that you may find useful to understand government policies and intent.

Finally, some of you ask what we do with all the feedback. No, its not a black hole. On the contrary, we take your views seriously, and these are collated and sent to Ministries/agencies for consideration!

[6:58 PM, 3/2/2020] Ricky Lim:
(1) Proposed that Singapore Foreign Relations should be based on the following foreign affair principles :-
"Friends with All.
Enemies with None.
Forge mutual benefits with Win-Win outcome".
"朋友满天下。
敌人无一个。
以附惠附利的共识,达成双赢的结果。“

(2) Bi-lateral relaionships are important for Singapore to trade, make investment, conduct business, foster tourism and build strong military relationship with as many foreign Countries as possible - and hence build our prosperity and peace through mutual beneficial outcome with us and the World. Thus it is important to foster and uphold the above principles in our foreign affairs policies.

(3) Having say so, Singapore must also build a strong credible military and security forces - to lend credibility to support our foreign affair policies and cement our Sovereignty as a Sovereign Country.

[6:58 PM, 3/2/2020] : Keep your friends close but your enemies closer
[6:59 PM, 3/2/2020] : Our enemies closer than our friends sia 😂

[7:06 PM, 3/2/2020] :

Why such a big reaction on an academic's view? Does it show that the relationship between China and Singapore still sensitive?

[7:25 PM, 3/2/2020] Ricky Lim:
(1) Feel that we should not comment about the political system of China - but instead should look at the mutual benefits that both can reap if we collaborate and cooperate.

(2) There are no definite right or wrong about a political system - as each political system have their merits and demerits (whether in a democratic system or a communist system) - and is adapted to their respective Countries to govern their people.

(3) As long as we mutually respect one another - and not export our political system to one another and vice versa - I think we can work very well with China.

(4) Political system will evolve over time - if each Countries discover its flaw and will evolve and adapt.

(5) Our focus with China should be on trade, investment, business, travel, sharing of ideas on how to improve social system, healthcare etc --- and not touch China's taboo - their political system.

[7:30 PM, 3/2/2020] Ricky Lim:
(6) And we have alot of cooperation in building eco-tech parks with China provinces, Belt-Road, join RnD in AI and other hi-tech fields.
So we should be careful not to step on their sore toe which is their political system.

Mr Muhyiddin Yassin was Menteri Besar for Johor from 1986 to 1995, now the member for Johor State Legislative Assembly for Gambir and MP for Pagoh, Johor.
[7:25 PM, 3/2/2020] REACH:
“Ultimately, water is but one issue out of many bilateral areas of cooperation. We must not allow any single issue to colour the overall positive and multi-faceted relationship,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, adding the two countries should look ahead to see how they can cooperate and resolve issues “for the benefit of future generations”.
Dr Balakrishnan emphasised the the importance of a "constructive, mutually beneficial relationship" between Singapore and Malaysia on the need to cooperate and resolve:
- the suspension of the Singapore-Johor Bahru Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link
- the Singapore-Kuala Lumpur High Speed Rail (HSR)
- Water issues
What are your views on Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan's speech?

(1) Feel that our relationship with Malaysia can be multiple fold :-
a. Forge relationships with their Sultans in every States.
b. Forge relationships with their Civil Service in every Ministries.
c. Forge relationships with their Political Parties - and work with the Government of the Day that have won the mandates as the Governor (and not take sides in their political tussle).
d. Forge people-to-people relationship, business-to-business relationships.

(2) Focus on mutually signed projects, agreement and contracts.
And insist on sticking to signed agreement and international law as basis for conduct of business professionally.

(3) Focus on ASEAN centrality and mutual benefits as the basis for conduct of mutual relationship.

Sorry back again....have a break, have a covid-19 😬

[8:17 PM, 3/2/2020] Ricky Lim:
Dry, warm weather conditions expected in first half of March
28 Feb 2020 07:05PM
Hope that the new hot dry weather - mark the tapering off and the end of Covid-19 virus.

[11:33 AM, 2/24/2020] :
(3) The best situation is when weather change and the virus subside and go off by its own.
(4) The worst situation is that it remain like any seasonal flu, and humans need to develop vaccines, cure and build up our immune system to tackle such virus.
