When you open your eyes, you are seeing things to be put into your memory.
Then it disrupt your process of remembering past events - as you start to put things into your memory.

If the eyes is closed, the eye-consciousness is shut off and will not distract the "remembering process" - as we are not putting things we see into memory.

Obviously, the concentration is better - without distraction.

Actually, what is more disruptive to memory - are stray thoughts trigger by the mind and heart - especially when you have vexation.

It disrupt your memory more than if you open your eyes.

A mind and heart that is calm and serene - is where concentration is good - and best in helping memory.
