Finance Minister Lawrence Wong will be promoted to Deputy Prime Minister from 13 June, in a move that cements his standing as the successor to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

๐Ÿ’ฌWhat are your views on the Cabinet reshuffle? What are some key priorities you think the Government can focus on in this new era of leadership?

The announcement comes two months after Mr Wong, 49, was endorsed by his peers as the leader of the People's Action Party's (PAP) fourth-generation team.

Mr Wong will also continue as Minister for Finance, and assume responsibility for the Strategy Group within the Prime Minister's Office, taking over this role from Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat.

Reiterating the commitment he made when he was chosen to lead the team, Mr Wong said: "As I've said before, I will do my best and give every ounce of my strength to serve Singapore and Singaporeans. In turn, I seek your support, as I take on my latest appointment as DPM, and take another step forward in embracing my new responsibilities."

Besides Mr Wong's promotion, eight office-holders will be promoted or given new portfolios and responsibilities. Details on the key changes can be found below:

That's 'FORWARD SINGAPORE' or old saying "MAJULAH SINGAPURA"!

[11:15 am, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: China is aging fast.

It needs 600 million young blooded and able people to replace this aging trajectory.

600 Million people today is perhaps the entire Asean population migrating into China after 2035. Possible?

[11:40 am, 08/06/2022] +Guillermo Cabeza: Priorities

- encouraging a healthier and more active population

- making it easier for people to work longer (to 70years and beyond) if they would like to, by incentivising employers

- a more comprehensive plan for institutional eldercare including for those with dementia

- food security and more generally establishing supply chains which are diverse and resilient

- continuing to forge a middle ground between China and the West

[11:46 am, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: Good points.

Aging workforce will be an added cost to businesses.

The question is to Co share such medical costs between

[11:49 am, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: Middle path for two giant nations happens to be gold medalists potential will be tough.

In geopolitics, is it possible?

- - *annoymous

[11:50 am, 08/06/2022] +Guillermo Cabeza: Well the leadership has managed this very well for more than 50 years so hopefully 4G and 5G can continue to do so

[11:50 am, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: For food security,

We are 6 million (including visitors and tourists), the supply of foods are secured as long as we are willing price taker?

[11:53 am, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: It will be, because there are short, mid, long term plannings, ahead.

One sweet thing is, 6 million passengers ship, perhaps this ship will steer and stay clear of the PERFECT STORM in motion and into 2040?

[11:53 am, 08/06/2022] +Guillermo Cabeza: I was thinking along the lines of long term supply contracts, ensuring there are air and ship cargo routes which support this, perhaps working with producers in Malaysia, Australia, NZ and Thailand to get them to prioritise supplying our market. Better to have stable prices than have to pay through the nose as a price taker in times of crisis.

[11:54 am, 08/06/2022] +Guillermo Cabeza: (and no i’m not talking about the $72 chicken!)

[11:56 am, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: Foreign relationships have been one excellent pillars that our 1G till now secure...

Again our demand is small given 6 millions plus excellent relationships with counter parties.

The potential counter party risks are fewer unless there is natural disaster happens to any of the supply country such as drought or flood or famine?

[11:57 am, 08/06/2022] +Guillermo Cabeza: yes agree with your points

[11:57 am, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: To be exact, there is a $23.70 vacuum pack chicken.

[11:59 am, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: One beautiful thing about our policymakers or government agencies is:

THEY ALWAYS PLAN, PLAN, PLAN.... ahead of things...

There are some who jokes like "kiasu, kiasi and kiabo"!

Now, these KSs are real!

[11:59 am, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: Previous chat message...

We are in Safe Haven!

[0:03 pm, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: Point is support that 20% and the 80% will mitigate through these choppy water of extended inflation...

Use 80/20 rule, it may work?

[0:05 pm, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: In the positive spirit of this REACH.

In each chat session, we all are trying to resolve or to improve the process or better still breakthrough ideas to better our lives and further our livelihoods...

Thats REACH mission, perhaps?

1. Political continuity and stability

- Looking for political continuity, capable and a strong Government - as Geopolitical uncertainty pose greater challenges to our security and economy; terrorism threat, global climate threatening our food security, war threatening our energy security.

- Hope we will not have a fractitious, coalition political landscape - that will bring difficult governance like our neighbor, a big Superpower - that result in a polarised, fragmented, quarrelsome society - short of long term vision that drive Econommic growth. security and social compactness.

2. Continue harmony, peace and prosperity among our diverse races and religions and diverse interest groups.

3. Better educated, higher income and higher standard of living among the population.

4. Living healthy, better affordable healthcare and treatment for the population - that prolong the lifespan of the population.

5. Ensure food security - sustainable and affordable food source, cushion against crisis driven food export ban or restriction, impact from global climate - eg. cell-culture meat, plant-based meat for local sufficiency and export.

6. Ensure energy security - sustainable affordable energy supply that rely less on fossil fuel and more on lower carbon and cleaner energy like solar, hydrogen gas, safe nuclear energy, geothermal energy - derive from free solar, H20 water, biomass etc.

7. Control imported inflation - through self sufficiency in food and energy, and devleoping strong Economic Growth.

8. More innovative green urban development - to bring more vibrant domestic economic activities and living spaces.

9. Focus on R&D, creativity, innovation , entrepreneurship - to drive our next phase of Economic growth.

Eg. AI, data analytics, Quantum computing, robotics, fintech, digital economy

Cell-culture, tissue re-engineering food source, vertical farming, seawater fish farm, seawater resistant rice grain etc - to secure our food supply

Green sustainability - solar, low carbon hydrogen gas, safe nuclear energy

Medical R&D - treatment for chronic disease, geneome sequencing targeted treatment, prevention against pandemic Disease X etc

10. More public and population participation and feedback in deriving public policies that impact public lives.

11. Contain runaway inflation - that dampen our standard of living, jack up our cost-of-living.

12. Ensure affordable housing, education, healthcare, affordable cost-of-living for our younger population to start and sustain a family.

Jimmy Carter - by Stephen Hess

“Process President”—using a definition by Aaron Wildavsky and Jack Knott—means that Carter places “greater emphasis on methods, procedures and instruments for making policy than on the content of policy itself.”

He believes that if the process is good the product will be good. In other words, if he sets up a procedure for making policy that is open, comprehensive (his favorite word), and involves good people, whatever comes out of this pipeline will be acceptable (within certain budgetary limits).

But process is only a tool for getting from here to there—it is not a substitute for substance. And good processes can produce conflicting, competing a…

Megan ๐Ÿ˜Š

[4:32 pm, 08/06/2022] +Uncle Law: Actually I'm not so concerned who got promoted or who is the upcoming PM.

The main thing is ministers to serve with heart for the citizens and not for their own agendas.

They are already one of the highly paid politicians in the world, all the more they would need to be transparent and look after their citizens.

Policies changes should take into consultation with the various stakeholders for example. It should not be because I think it will work on the ground, then I implement.

I believe many of those in the policies making dept, should be put on the ground to experience what the commoners are facing.

[4:35 pm, 08/06/2022] +Caleb: good, Minister Lawrence looks presentable to represent Singapore.

[4:47 pm, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Uncle Law,

Addon, perhaps, all retirees from MG to PG especially those dependent on personal savings and the monthly CPF withdrawals.

Seniors whom are living on their own for whatsoever family reasons. They can either be alone or couple.

We must start to engage and connect these seniors because the cost of livings has gone up by 15% or more.

Cash trap?

[4:49 pm, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: Not to mention, monthly or quarterly medications and checkups... This is part of the seniors cost of livings.

Coexist or Conflict, within a nation and outside of a nation.

Social integrations and inequalities will continue to stretch as long as s nation continues the prosperity trajectory. There is really a tough call to balance these social tangles and distorted views.

[6:17 pm, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: A need to quantify this good virtue of sharing...

How to strategise and implement on a continuous basis?

What's the affordability like for all, such spread of incentives?

[6:21 pm, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: One way to research is

What's the needs and wants of a family unit, an age group and income group?

It will be a meticulous task to dig deep into the daily and future aspirations and expectations of people!

Then formulate strategies to target the receiving ends, this case in totality of 3.5 millions people!

[6:21 pm, 08/06/2022] +Boon: And importantly too, how should the 5G candidate leaders be known to the public and be groomed? With the uncertain horizon and scenarios, is there a bench strength of candidates with skills today? We can’t always depend on national crisis in order to know our leaders. How can residents get to know these potential leaders thru the ideals they would champion, their proposals and execution of their policies to better Sg?

[6:23 pm, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Boon,

[6:26 pm, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: To continue on the fear of aging...

Environments will determine many outcomes and social behaviors!

Finding ways and means to resolve these future fears will be that BRIGHT SPOT at the end of a person's productive years, this means economics value to society.

[6:27 pm, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: What environments should an aging nation attempt to create?

CREATE HOPE!

[6:28 pm, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: "audacity of hopes"

No hope or feeling hopeless or helpless will be the beginning of attrition of a nation and follows by the system and institutions... Like a domino effect!

LET CREATE HOPES!

[6:31 pm, 08/06/2022] +Smiley face: One proud thing....

1. It is not possible to wait for people to provide feedback - before government formulate and implement government policies to govern the Country.

This should be the 1st priority the Government should tackle - to tamper the runaway inflation - and keep the Economy on even keel.
