📢 Topic 📢

The Creative Media and Publishing Union (CMPU) which is affiliated with labour movement National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), which represents e-commerce employees in Singapore, said Shopee had assured the union that affected employees would be given the appropriate compensation package in line with market norms. The union said it will also assist laid-off employees in finding work.

💬 Are you worried about job security in the midst of rising inflation and cost of living? If not, why? What are your views of Unions role in protecting workers' interests?

Mr Adrian Tan, a human resources consultant and spokesman for the Singapore Human Resources Institute, said low investor confidence resulting in less funding might have driven the recent retrenchment. He added that although those who were laid off might be able to find better remuneration for working in a competitive firm that is a household name. However, depending on their specialty, workers might face difficulties in finding new job opportunities if the entire sector is struggling.

Tesla Singapore's country manager has been laid off as part of global job cuts that chief executive Elon Musk has warned about in recent weeks over worries about a coming recession. Tesla announced a 10 per cent of workforce reduction.

Crypto.com, which is headquartered in Singapore, announced layoffs of about 260 staff. Chief executive officer Kris Marszalek tweeted on Friday that the company made the "difficult and necessary decisions" to optimise for profitability and sustainable growth during a market downturn.

"its coming, this big corrections...?"

- - annoymous

- So long the Fed do not reach 4% or higher into 5% range, the pace of economics slowed down and perhaps a soft-hard landing (deflation) for most assets class. How about BOE, ECB and BOJ, what's each position likely be into Q4-2022 and Q1-2023? How about China's domestic economies, politics and its friendliness towards Russia affects geopolitics and the possibilities of each a prolong war hot war, East Asia regional war or currency war?

- This will be a reasonable scenario, though, there will be carnaged and damaged to all nations' economic structures. Simply put it, there is no escapement, a big reset is happening!

For our domestic economies and job security, there will be retre…

[10:30 am, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Most of our full time based job has become contract based

Our government MOM should have set the rules

Full time job shouldn't have contract based by year

Another hand we did see our part time worker salary remain very like $7:00per hour but without any extra income or medical coverage

Did MOM doing anything set up this humanity rules

none of this rules did apply

Sadly to said MOM rate to me was poor one

[10:31 am, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Frankie, good morning!

Good analysis!

Before depression...

Interst rates up, Deflation of assets, eroding consumers ' confidence, unemployment and corporate cost cutting exercises, slowed economic activities, technical recession, prolonged recess, depression whereby assets class will be lowest in value, irrational pricing!

[10:34 am, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Anthony,

A real concern however the other side of the coin being....

If business EXIT cost outweighs the ENTRY cost... Many MNCs of all scale will reconsider doing business in such country?

EXAMPLE Preferential tax exemption were given to identified and qualified big and strategic MNCs, fyi

Anthony, is a tough decision when letting go workers... Tough and lousy feelings too!

[10:35 am, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: CDC Voucher given to Singapore was another setback to our Singapore the Inflation has hit all time high

An Orchard with existing tall and stout durian tress with unreachable fruits whenever harvest time comes around...

- The plantation experts decided to grow a new HYBRID short durian trees with high yield and more low hanging fruits for easy harvest and easy to reach. Even the plantation workers helped themselves with some of their fruits of labor too, though all these were "palm sized" small durians unlike those tall trees that produced big durians! Everybody were in a state of euphoria, the bosses and workers!

Couple of years gone by, these short trees overgrown the old and tall ones so much so that there were bumper cropping season after season...

Threshold Limit of Households:

Do-Re-Mi:

A household may consists of one or more than one breadwinner(s). Should an economics downturn comes, what's the threshold limit or stress tests in terms of cost of livings and be able to sustain through say 15 months?

One, we assume that 5% of households do not have savings to ride any economics downturn or any family emergency

Two, the "borderline" households with at most three months of savings can be up to a quarter of an entire nation's native population?

Three, more than half of the total households have enough savings as their means of sustaining for more than a year of global recession, in between jobs or out of jobs?

Are these, DoReMi, realistic assumptions?

[1:36 pm, 17/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Based on the current job market, job vacancies are quite abundance.

Based on what I know, many fresh graduates have been able to secure a long term jobs.

2. In this particular context, IT jobs specifically eCommerce Shoppe, some cryptocurrencies firms and Telsa reported job cut.

Reasons is eCommerce listed in US such as shoppe, grab - are facing a selldown. Cryptocurrencies also face a selldown, same as Tesla.

A few factors could have contributed to it:-

a. High inflation, liquidity squeeze as Central banks tighten credit and liquidity, high interest rate, Shares investment drop.

b. Shoppe and grabs - have still not turn profit. Shoppe experience exit shock in market like India, Spain and some other overseas market.

c. Telsa share price hit by Twitter problematic buyover. Shanghai lockdown cause production stop. Consumers confidence hit and not buying Telsa cars.

d. Cryptocurrencies suffer from selldown meltdown.

All these have impact on IT jobs for these companies.

3. However Stagflation is a threat - characterised by high inflation (triggered by war, pandemic, global climate that hit food supply, global supply disruption, Government rolling back monetary liquidity, consumer consumption drop due to high inflation, business cost increases, and high interest rate will prevent business loan - that contribute to lower growth).

4. Hence in the short and medium term - low growth and recession is a possibility.

We should try to shoot to avert recession and aim for lower growth - if the World recession hit - to protect both business and jobs.

5. IT jobs in the specialisation of AI, data analytics, mobile apps development, software development, cloud - should not be a serious threat of losing jobs - as they are high demand - due to our Government push for digital economy.

Many companies are still paying high salary for these IT jobs.

So the current retrenchment by the above companies - are not particularly worrying - as expertise in the above IT areas are still in high demand.

[1:47 pm, 17/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

There are 4 digital banks coming on board that requires hundreds of IT expertise in the areas of AI, mobile apps development, data analytics, software development, cloud.

So these retrenched IT workers can look into it

[1:56 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: All Part Timer should have Medical Coverage base on hours they worked

As long they worked with company,

hence workers should have more benefits like their Full Time Staff as well hospitalasation leave

This can easily done by MOM to step up with rules

Not the hardest thing to set up all this rules

[1:57 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: 17 June, 2022

"Cash is King...?"

All central bankers and policymakers these days are attempting in desperate moments using monetary policy such as raising interest rates or lightened its currency strength. All these fast tactical moves is to contain inflation and simultaneously not slipping into a recession with it domestic, regional or worse a global slowed down!

A couple drivers (devil) causing these mountains of headache, just naming a few that is war, foods, oil and covid (zero-covid) disruptions that are cooking up the imbalanced between supply shortages and the emerging demands out from the global pandemic. One by one, each of this driving factor adds up to today's inflated costs of everything!

Are we seeing again that, "cash is becoming the king of tomorrows"?

[1:58 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: For Full Time should have more benefit according to MOM rules

Unlike some company wish to not follow the rules

[2:03 pm, 17/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Regulation over Big Tech in US, EU and China has taken a hit on Big Tech firms.

China Big Tech notably Alibaba, Tencent, Pingduoduo, etc profit and revenue have been hardest hit.

This cause IT jobs to be hit as well.

But these China Big Tech is expanding to SE Asia making Singapore its regional hubs and are aggressively recruiting IT staff.

So I believe there are still high demand for IT jobs.

There are many ways to save money.

[2:33 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Plus, all the stall owner selling same price this day nobody want to be left out

[2:34 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Government don't be inhumane otherwise ballot box without your vote

[2:34 pm, 17/06/2022] +RH: U mean equal benefits,  based on their hours of Part-Time work,  not "more".

Otherwise,  Full-Time staff wl not be happy.  😉

Yes, in today's world, times hv changed.

Not many r looking at full-time employment,  but more on Part-Time (permanent)  tt suits their hours,  becoz of diff family environment - more single families, need to take care of kids, take care of aged parent,  take kids to day care,  etc.

CoVid has changed the way we live our lives.

Job availability for flexible work like food delivery,  car rides,  etc has given rise to new working arrangements. These wl become part of the "new permanent" jobscape of the future.

MOM needs to review & re look into:

** their definitions of the various forms of work...

eg.,  full-time, part-time …

[2:39 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: I believe Full Time Staff would understand the reason

why someone choose to  work as Part Timer must be many reason

But to say MOM have to review for long time before we have new benefits for part timer is absurd

MOM have plenty intelligences & professional to workout in short time

I will said less then 6.Months should be more then enough

[2:40 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Good that still can find 2-3 food. 👍👏👏

[2:41 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Try travel 2 hours one direction to work 🥲

[2:41 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Traveling to work 4 hours on average

[2:43 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: I tryit in several on 2.5hr per trip in 1 direction. Mrt + bus + waiting time. 5 hrs in total

[2:43 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: I urge Capitaland & mapletree or Fraser all this shopping mall should have discount price for selected food court in their mall

for the workers who work in various of mall

[2:43 pm, 17/06/2022] +RH: I think u misunderstood,  Anthony.

我想你误会了。 我的意思是,MOM 应该审查他们已经制定了很长时间的规则。 不是要他们拿很长的时间来审查规则。😃

[2:44 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: In industry estate, the frequency of the bus is not high

[2:44 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Try daily for work? 🥲

Welcome to Jurong island

[2:45 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Older estate we can walk one side to another Coffeeshop to have our simple meal

But not the newly one

[2:46 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: I m better than you, I m outside of during island, being there for 4 year plus and left due to the amount of time spent on travel

[2:46 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: My work are only the far ends of the Singapore. Don’t have a choice.

I stay in The Central area

[2:47 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Doing it for the past 12 years..

[2:49 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: I remember last time the first thing before I join a company is visiting their canteen. 😅.

In the state, the company usually sell very cheap food or, after office hour, have free food for those doing overtime.

[2:49 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: If we can safe entry & ART within weeks & months

I hardly see why Government agencies still let the Part Timer to enjoy nothing at all

Except hardworking like a full time staff

Sadly to said

Zuo boh

[2:49 pm, 17/06/2022] +RH: **apologies -- hijack for a moment --

I wud like to commend Reach ...

Ytd Gov finally announced their plans w Wolbachia mozzie.

This is sth tt we hv all recently bn asking abt in our prev conversations.

So, finally, we r updated.

And we now know why the Dengue spread has suddenly increased so quickly ... We were too slow to roll this Wolbachia project out...  It was very limited to a few areas only.

Hope the new measures r as effective as claimed.

Looking to see Dengue cases coming down soon.

Gov/ Reach,  got any idea when & how?

🤷‍♀️

[2:51 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: It's ok , this group chat it's for everyone

[2:51 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: The mozzie release will help to reduce the population of the mosquitoes in the area by infecting the mosquito with the bacteria that will prevent it from laying eggs that will hatch into new mosquitoes… so it will take awhile for it to take effect.

[2:52 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: They need to constantly release to be effective in reducing the number

[2:52 pm, 17/06/2022] +RH: I know...  it just seems to hv bn too slow.  Lol.  😂

[2:52 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Fast way won’t be good for humans as well

[2:53 pm, 17/06/2022] +RH: I suppose u're right.

[2:53 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Fogging is normal way… but many people don’t like… and it kills my fish 🥲 if forgot to close the windows when fogging

[2:54 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: We still have to do our part to reduce stagnant water in our house.

[2:55 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Fogging only effective in outdoor areas… hence the mosquito can tackle those that lingers around the house indoor. As mosquito can mate multiple times..

[2:55 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Government agencies can push them liao

To apply for it

[2:57 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: & those independent one

I name it

Nex ,West mall, Downtown East

Join the merchant

[2:58 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Crypto vs. E-com platform vs. electric car is different industries with their business cycle.

[2:58 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Government should encourage or pushing them to help singaporean not just making profit only

[2:58 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Fogging especially right after say 2 hours, came raining, these fogging (diesel mixtures ) will go to waste...

[2:59 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Can we say 5% crucial households?

There is need to quantify and qualify...

[3:00 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Should lah

[3:00 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Think of big coverage, what's the crucial area of Concerns.... Needs closer and intensive cares...thus case Dengue...

Any idea crucial areas of breeding?

[3:00 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: 😅

Do help up at meet the people session”MPS”. You will know what kind of help Singapore government has been providing.

You will be surprise we have many.

[3:01 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: All this developer making money  from SG to China

In return not help the poor one meh

[3:01 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: And how many people misused those help as well 🤦🏻‍♂️

[3:01 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Earlier do-re-mi model... Pls take a look, your comments are valuable too, chees!

[3:02 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: 16 June, 2022

Are these realistic assumptions?

[3:02 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Pushing U to another department after department

Long winded one

[3:02 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Helping to write letters for government help. The person having a better phone than I have. 😂

[3:02 pm, 17/06/2022] +RH: According to the announcements, they hv selected areas of high Dengue cases to release the Wolbachia.

The rest of our island not.

[3:02 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Agreed..

A few used given funds for big telco bills.... A few only, lucky not alot of foljs

[3:03 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Depends on the person help you write and what is the issue.

[3:03 pm, 17/06/2022] +Poh S. Lim: Singapore is still reliant on FDI (foreign direct investment) for significant job creation. At this point in world history, there is a movement towards nationalist trend in many large countries and economies to keep jobs and labour within their own countries which is counter to globalisation in the last few decades and in which Singapore prospered. I fear over the long term, FDI flows into Singapore may diminish somewhat making job creation much more difficult.

So, yes Unions may help worker somewhat, but at a price that it may make Singapore less competitive in the world market for labour. It is a fine balancing act to keep Singapore competitive while protecting worker rights and livelihoods, so I really hope the government will act wisely.

[3:03 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: The e-com platform heavily relies on personal spending power. Shopee is paying off those from the payment gateway. The payment gateway in Singapore is very compatible, and it has yet to enter the ASEAN market successfully. Hence the benefit from. The economic scale is not there. Crypto is a pilot technology before digital currency. In current investment market, there are better opportunity for investment.

[3:03 pm, 17/06/2022] +RH: I dun think this is realistic.

[3:04 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: If person write rubbish… you get rubbish reply.

As well if it is unreasonable request. 🤣

[3:04 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Experience from someone that help up last time.

😆

[3:04 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: U write to PM office they send it letter to elsewhere

What the hell

[3:05 pm, 17/06/2022] +RH: NEA to chk weather forecast next time b4 they fog???

😃

[3:05 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Lol PM you write what issue give them sia…

So many department need PM office to reply you? 🤣

[3:06 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: PM office for what for show only😜

[3:06 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Every day each MPS received 90 to 100 request.. (each week 2 session)

You guess how many letters they have to reply? Plus letters have to reply within 48 hours

[3:07 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: When you know the volume… you think what is your one letter?

[3:07 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Tesla is performing a global 10% attrition of head out due to slow demand and increased speed in fulfilling the backed order.

[3:07 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Before election lol.. sometimes I saw 150 to 200 🤣

[3:08 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Cannot solved people problem all this just show liao

[3:09 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: 😅 please go and be elected. And try do the job.

If cannot join opposition 🥲

Then you know how tough to do the job. Plus the volunteers that help up.

[3:09 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: I just mark my point several Government agencies

[3:10 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Disclaimer: I am not YP. Only just a volunteer that help out.

And I don’t vote for them as well 🤣

[3:11 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Bad times, usual times or good times, many established US firms use KPI to cutoff the last quarter of their fyi workforce. Though not entire bottom 5%, it is common yearly sack and hire practices.

[3:12 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Nationalist movement from big economy started long time ago and accelerated from 2016. In crease cases of Different standard in technology, economic rule are being role out and implemented.

[3:12 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: 1) CPF 2/5, 2) HDB 1/5 3)PM Office 2/5  4) MOH 2/5  5)MOM 0/5  6) MSF 2/5

[3:13 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: All failed keep it up

[3:13 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Join the party then propose from within if you really have the heart to let your voice get heard

[3:14 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: This party no change one lah

[3:14 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Maybe try elsewhere unless they from U leh

[3:15 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Stagnant

[3:16 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: When U vote , U know how to judging the encounter u come across the point will be there for u to cast your vote

[3:17 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: 1) CPF 2/5, 2) HDB 1/5 3)PM Office 2/5  4) MOH 2/5  5)MOM 0/5  6) MSF 2/5

[3:22 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Example, "asking govt to help renovates kitchen" ,

all sorts of MPS requests...

[3:29 pm, 17/06/2022] +Sam: Is it possible that just because MP requested, the outcome will be positive? I really doubt so because there are many unreasonable request. I think one of the popular request is to waive summon. If you break the law, you face the consequence. How can requesting MP to waive summon be reasonable?

[3:33 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Yet the MPS staffs wrote letters to authority as requested by residences.

How about a resident asking MP to evict another neighbor simply cannot 'stand' that family?

[3:35 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: They no longer do waiver request for this…

But some are legit need for waiver. Example if not they can no longer work. If their occupation are driver/taxi. But then again cannot too many times.. lol as a driver you have to follow the rules

[3:36 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: With reason issue, town council will step in. Like throw shit down the floors.. kena my house 🤢

[3:36 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: They will send in monitoring team to check and verify.

[3:37 pm, 17/06/2022] +Sam: I guess people got to set the expectation right. Otherwise they will blame the MP for the inability to help

[3:38 pm, 17/06/2022] +Sam: If both disputing neighbours seek help from MP at the same time, who will be helped? 🤭

[3:38 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Sometimes issue like too many people staying (6 limit)

Or fire hazard all can raise issue with MPS

[3:39 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: They will find a officer to understand what’s the issue and then follow up, if they have mediate the issue between the two neighbours many such issues so not uncommon for them to settle

[3:39 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: It is a very common issue.. 🫠

[3:42 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Yupp, expectations, to co exist in a communal livings

[3:43 pm, 17/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. There are some with unreasonable demands - and expect MPs to solve them - else threaten not to vote for them if they don't help.

2. There are some however which are legitimate requests - such as needing to find jobs, and other genuine difficulties.

3. MPs and volunteers servicing the residents - must be able to differentiate the 2 and help those who are genuine in need for assistance.

4. MPs should not fear being coerce not to vote for them - even though how unreasonable the demand should be.

5. Singaporean voters - majority of them are rational and sensible voters - and will know how to vote wisely.

[3:43 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: When you listen to the story sometimes just amazing how can people be so nasty 🫣

[3:45 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Do help up with MPS many places lack volunteers specially young people. That can type and more aware of what help are available for the residences

[3:45 pm, 17/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Let’s hope REACH for Singapore people’s voice and outcome and contributions.

- environment social living

- finance support household

- wage fair worker

- improvement transport

Government is on working the next new Budget may helpful our expenses spent.

[3:46 pm, 17/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

All boils down to upbringing and civic education.

Notice that as our population get more affluent, the character and moral values don't match up.

[3:48 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Depends on where you go… PAYM got many passion young people. 🤭

In general our population are still quite kind hearted. I feel.

[3:49 pm, 17/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

That's good.

Except social media has video and reported some ugly people with bad behaviour.

[3:50 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Good deed who will share? 😅

Only nasty news will travel..

[3:50 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Helping hands, club rainbow, CCF, many many more.. so many people help but none will know they do such good deed

[3:53 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Bunch of nurses and doctors volunteers for camp every year in CCF, and club rainbow.

Who will know they also volunteer to help up in medical supervised camp for chronic ill kids? After work and took leave for it for some them.

[3:54 pm, 17/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Good to hear this.

[4:04 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Low income should Waived off the bill for hospitalise payment as MP should be a fair deal

If not don't blame voter not to be rational as inhumane MP it dish out in your constituency

[4:06 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: If Government MP doesn't waive off the bill for low income earner then must well go to find charities for help,

Cos MP good for nothing

As simple As that

[4:07 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Sometimes rational as a stake to play to warn all the good for nothing MP in SG👍👍

[4:08 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Otherwise they thought sleep can win the election is too dangerous to our Singaporean

[4:10 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Not to be blame the Government ,but to blame all of us why we choose a system like this

Vv

[4:11 pm, 17/06/2022] +Sam: Wow. Good for nothing MP. I think that sound really harsh. But then, you are probably not the only one labelling that

[4:12 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Nice word  so =equal everything expensive is this what we want

[4:13 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: If Affordable ,家家户户过的开心

[4:13 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Would not be harsh as now

[4:14 pm, 17/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Probably his definition of MPs also apply to the opposition MPs as well.

[4:14 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Government can do ,but not doing enough of it

[4:14 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: I mean equally the same

[4:18 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: MP do help to appeal to agencies to waive of certain charges in hospital bills due to valid circumstances, connected the dot with agency to help resident. Isn’t it?

[4:19 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Some of them willing to serve the people with good heart

But did not get the opportunity because in a small party it's quite disheartening

When Mr Desmond Kim Bak Chuan packing the rice packet for all servicing worker

I kudos him as a Gentleman

Unfortunately he come from✌️ small party ✌️

[4:19 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Someone have to pay.. government money = public funds.

If tax goes up, if ok to pay then we can have free healthcare.

[4:20 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: But we all know how to differentiate how a good & bad MP it can be

[4:21 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Reserve is there

[4:21 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: From us no? Money comes from years of tax and government investment. 😅

We don’t print money like US 😅

[4:22 pm, 17/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Then SG current dollars come from where?

[4:22 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Aust have free healthcare due to the high tax. If we willing to pay for it. Then we will have.

[4:23 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Not asking for FOC

But as a human

Our  reserve money cant help poverty is a shameful as human being

[4:23 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: To pay the unfortunate one

[4:23 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: 👏👏. Volunteers in general do take leave for volunteering work. This is a fair way for the company they worked for and themselves and the people they helped.

[4:24 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Doesn't asking everyone to be poor ,in order to get government money

[4:25 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: But let this poor fellow group fought hard still end up poor

Let them breath should be right thing to do

God will bless you

[4:26 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Our thought ,

no free lunch from the sky

should consider vulgar

Ban from using it

[4:26 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: MediShield already help with a lot. Recently my child also got into hospital.

With insurance and MediShield I just have to pay $2.6

Out of the $8k for 4 days stay at KKH(3 days HDW)

Full waive is not possible.

[4:27 pm, 17/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/government-money-printing-explainer-inflation-central-banks-151830136.html

[4:28 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Commodities trading uses the USD as a major currency.  USD is being protected with tremendous purchasing power with their coy try and strong financial system. The USA has powerful and mighty-armed forces globally present.

[4:28 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Insurance  ($192 cash a year)

I know it might be tough for some to even have the extra.

But is personal decision to spend or not.

[4:28 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Then I suggest no need to pay until death

[4:30 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Because a system like this

I will never praise at all

Reserve money not using for the poor one

[4:32 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: In general, humans may not treasure something which is a foc,foc item always giving priority to others which are not.

[4:33 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Maybe majority of Ugly Singaporean too many of it & out of count

[4:34 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Government Insurance is paying for this. Luckily we have this plan to shelter us when we are in need.

[4:35 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: This is one of the good move. And cover existing illness as well. Which rarely insurance will cover.

[4:35 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: I thought I would have need to pay $4 to $5k 😅

In the HDW

[4:37 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Various government Subsidies are being given to Singaporeans that passed the means-testing requirement  to help them

[4:39 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: I agreed. Luckily we have this. If not, we will face financial difficulties during emergency

[4:40 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: But of course if you choose higher class then charges will be different and will not be highly subsidy.

[4:40 pm, 17/06/2022] +Rama: Good point

[4:40 pm, 17/06/2022] +Rama: Agree

[4:40 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Or chose doctor also not mentioned to subsidy if I m.not wrong

[4:41 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Change in HDB's minimum occupation period rule for Sers replacement flats

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/housing/change-in-hdbs-minimum-occupation-period-criteria-for-sers-replacement-flats-starting-with-ang-mo-kio-site

[4:41 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Not entitled*

[4:41 pm, 17/06/2022] +Sam: Actually low income citizen will be covered under medifund, they pay nothing except if the medication is not under approved list

[4:41 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: I can up class.. but I trust that KH doctors will provide the same care even in difference class ward. 😅

Although my wife don’t agree 😅

[4:42 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: KKH”

[4:42 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Anyway up class for HDW is the same treatment as the B and C class ward.

[4:44 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: The patient's room may be better, but the follow-up appointment cost with the doctor will be charged at a premium rate..

[4:44 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: In critical care (NCIU,HDW) for KKH, all class are given the same care. If I am not wrong 😅

[4:44 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Yes if you choose to up class

[4:44 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Agreed, treatment wise is the same

[4:44 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: All payment there after are consider as private

[4:45 pm, 17/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: U mean critical illness

We all have CPF called Shieldcare and elder care

[4:46 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Is it true, once up class, future hospitalisation or offside treatments will be that up class and the fees applied, say from C to B?

Any idea?

[4:47 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Isn't that eldershield change to careshield?

[4:47 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Err insurance cover the bulk. MediShield life cover 1/4

[4:48 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Err for the treatment only.. if related. But new case will be asked again

[4:48 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: For that particular treatments and it's follow up checkup only.

[4:49 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: The 3/4 paid for by insurance rider program?

[4:49 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Yah..

[4:49 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: New case will start as subsidised patient again.

[4:49 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: That's good!

[4:49 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Good!

[4:50 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: I m referring to Singaporeans as an example.. PR not sure.

[4:50 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: If patient not covered by rider program? What's the final bill likely be?

Any idea? To foot 3/4 portion?

[4:50 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: You should be correct, logically thinking..

[4:51 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Think so 😅 not sure.. I not good with calculating this..

[4:51 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: You can pay with Medisave lor

[4:51 pm, 17/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: I see eldershield no longer

[4:51 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: No need out of pocket

[4:52 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Think here only singaporean 😅

Am I right?

[4:52 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Concern is, there may be some Singaporeans not able to afford rider program for hospitalisation?

Any other MOH/Medifunds program to assist such cases?

[4:53 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Yupp

[4:53 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Not so sure how insurance work… any Insurance Agent here? 😅

[4:53 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Don’t think got full Medisave one.. all need to co pay a certain amount

[4:54 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Rider program cost varies accordance to age group and pre existing conditions too.

[4:54 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: This is my daughter plan

[4:54 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: For private ones a lot higher if not wrong

[4:55 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Premium for these rider can be part paid through one's CPF, though not much and the remaining premium on cash only...

[4:56 pm, 17/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

This is my experience of our Government:-

1. Able to create jobs for the Economy - and many of the people I know get good well paying jobs.

2. Government have been able to dish out relief - to help the population during pandemic and the current runaway inflation.

Though I would say the current inflation is quite unexpected and quite unprecedented - due to the tiple whammy of pandemic, war and global climate.

3. Government do well in education - to ensure the young get good education, the adults and even mature workers get continous education and training.

4. Healthcare wise - the government subsidy for citizens are quite generous.

----

The only current challenges we face are :-

1. High inflation in food.

2. High inflation in energy - electricity bill, fuel for cars.

3. Threat of recession

If the Government is able to effectively cushion food prices and energy bill - as well as ensure that recession can be prevented but replace by slower growth with business closing down and job loss --- then I think Singapore are safe.

[4:56 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Cash is about $16 a month. Technical affordable… for majority of the people. ( this is at yearly rate hence cheaper) monthly ones are a bit higher

[4:56 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Every year, the first-time hospitalized needs to pay “deductable,” right?

[4:56 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: But maybe some issue for Low income

[4:57 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Two options.. Private or public or both, rider programs are that flexible.

If hospitalised, patient chooses public hospital stay, insurance will kickback per day for such savings.. This applies only to flexible plan!

[4:57 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: 😅 not sure

[4:58 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Small amount hundreds per day... For choosing public hospital over private ones...

[4:58 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Not sure too!

[4:59 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Cannot read no account 😅

[5:00 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: I remembered a long time ago. An amount needs to be paid before insurance cover the expenses.. Not sure whether is it still the same practice now

[5:00 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Rider also covers DAY surgery stay, meaning 8 hours stay, any shorter time rider will not cover.

It a rule...

[5:00 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Pay first, claim later.

[5:00 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Depends on insurance I think..

my side no need. Just have to inform them during registering

[5:01 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Good insurance

[5:01 pm, 17/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Don’t know why insurance refuse to pay new drug for cancer treatment

[5:01 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Maybe..

[5:01 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Always call your agent or insurance directly if id not an emergency... Also your doctor will be knowledgeable Regards to claiming and amount etc

[5:02 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: 😅 really don’t know.. there are lots of factor.. maybe they have account for it during the calculation of the premium hence is excluded.

[5:02 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Or the drug is too new.. not part of the insurance calculation.

[5:03 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Cancer patient ends up with $33,000 bill after insurer refuses to pay for drug

[5:03 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Is it not in their approved list? Just like the panel doctor. Need to go far away to see panel doctor while sick

[5:03 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Having an Integrated Shield Plan and rider may not always guarantee peace of mind

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/health/having-an-ip-and-rider-may-not-always-guarantee-peace-of-mind

[5:03 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: As stated here

[5:04 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Thanks

[5:05 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: When seek treatment will need to check with your insurance if it is covered.

Specially experimental treatment 😅 likely not covered.

[5:05 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Years ago, should a person diagnosed with 3rd or late stage cancer. Insurance would issue a lump sum and CPF would also grant withdrawal of money., especially for single people.

[5:05 pm, 17/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: So far she didn’t know and has been paid insurance when did this happen appear her cancer with new drug.

[5:06 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: But lump don’t work for those that are super long treatment and relapse… there are adjustment now for those. But how comprehensive not sure. Hope I don’t need to know

[5:06 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Cost in play, approval by authorities like HSA/MOH needed?

[5:08 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Lump sum, a sad meaning, means one's dying soonest.

Insurance saved cost!

[5:08 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Insurance is hedging… with your own life..

company is there to earn money mah..

[5:08 pm, 17/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Without business closing down or job loss.

[5:08 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: You weight your odds lor

[5:09 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: They go for profit as well

[5:09 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Is for profit company… don’t do business to lose money 😅

[5:09 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Of course, no free lunch!

[5:11 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Ya, after several claim it will discontinue the premium and protection. it happen on my mum.

[5:12 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: If can afford then buy… small amount for a piece of mind.

😅 that what I feel.

[5:12 pm, 17/06/2022] +Rama: AGREE

[5:12 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Cause your odds will have gone up.. they won’t hedge a lose case.

[5:13 pm, 17/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: One price to pay save later then gone in short life

[5:13 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Hence buy when you can… not after you are sick.

[5:14 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: True. As a result, I think keeping healthy is better. Insurance just for incase.

[5:14 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Yup… easy said then done 😅

[5:14 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: I need to exercise 🤦🏻‍♂️

[5:15 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: I saw the news on healtheirsg, actually I m looking forward for it and see how I can benefit from it.

[5:16 pm, 17/06/2022] +SL: Try our best and continue doing so.

[5:49 pm, 17/06/2022] +Andrew Ang: Is it true that we can't get the same Covid-19 variant twice?

[5:51 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: 17 June, 2022

"Staying and remaining healthy, a double blessings...?"

What's aging means?

Everyone grows old, it is a ticking bio clock!

As one ages, her or his physical wellbeing begins to deteriorate from frequent sickness into chronic diseases, mobile or bed ridden and the eventual death.

Medical emergencies and long term medications can amount to big sum of money. It may also burden a family finances and turn this family into chaos!

Whether a health insurance plan will relieve some of the financial aspects and same time government assistance should also be considered as a total package for any citizen in need of help.

[5:54 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Errr yah… but covid keep mutating… unlikely you kena the same strain

[5:54 pm, 17/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Covid-19 couldn’t go away 😟

[5:55 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: I heard people kena 3 times one 😅

[5:55 pm, 17/06/2022] +Ken Loh: 2 times also quite common

[6:19 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Seems like everything back to square one

可以死,不能活,没有钱 ,就是现实

[6:30 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: 宁死也不愿生病?

Die than getting sick?

Is that the meaning?

[6:31 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Have to ask why no longer subsidies the covid-19 medication

[6:32 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Its endemic, however, hospitalisation due to covid still have full cost coverage.

[6:33 pm, 17/06/2022] +Anthony: Ppl can't afford to pay for insurance still have to fork out  another inhumane  I can say

[6:37 pm, 17/06/2022] +Smiley face: Going forward, aging will become a multi billions dollars issue for society to resolve!

Refer to previous chat session on aging and replacement rate.

It will be a big challenge for all aging nations!

Companies are laying off excess workforce to reduce salary cost and increase revenue in hope to achieve profitability every quarter and each yearly results especially publicly listed companies. These companies have statutory requirements every 90 days to report their performance within the scope and geography of their business operations.

- "Two is not enough, Three is Happy, and Four Will Be Ideal (两个不够, 三是好的开始, 四个是理想幸福美满的家庭) ..?"

The question of spanning towards 100 years old?

Replacement model:

In the real world scenario, 2.0 will be the ideal replacement /fertility ratio.

1) Two lego block, each represent 1 replacement.

2) let the current generation be CG, the emerging generation be EG and the MG and PG as we all are familiar with.

3) The PG, MG and CG each has TWO LEGO BLOCKS stack up one after another, in respective stack upwards.

4) The EG with 1 block at the bottom of the three Stacks.

Questions:

Where's the tipping point?

Where will this single EG Stacks going into the next generational cycle of block(s)?

If lifespan of a given population say 20% live 100 years or longer, how would all these Stacks be like?

Ideally, the two lego blocks will keep the life & death ratio in balanced and not topple?

"should 20% or more of the population's live close to 100 years, perhaps there is a need to rename CPF to EPF (eternal provident funds) ...?"
