[10:10 am, 15/06/2022] +REACH: 📢 Topic 📢

The Ministry of Finance (MOF) and Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that in July, Pioneer generation and Merdeka generation seniors will receive MediSave top-ups. Eligible Pioneer generation seniors will receive top-ups of up to S$900, while eligible Merdeka generation seniors will receive S$200. The top-ups are provided in addition to the annual GST Voucher-MediSave top-ups given to eligible Singaporeans aged 65 and above.

As Singapore's population ages, the Ministry of Health (MOH) aims to almost double the number of eldercare centres to 220 by 2025 and increase their scope of services. Eldercare centres serve as the go-to points for all seniors, providing a range of services such as active ageing programmes, befriending, as well as referral and care services.

💬 What are your views on Singapore's approach to address the needs of seniors? How can we play our part to build a more supportive and inclusive community?

Minister Ong Ye Kung noted that it is important to expand both the scale and scope of services at eldercare centers to support ageing in place, in communities and people’s own homes, and that this will 'help anchor and support care in the community'.

Separately, a pilot initiative, called ACES Care HelpLife, which started on Monday (Jun 6), aims to engage senior volunteers to be call agents to help other seniors in Ang Mo Kio who need a bit of help - getting food, fixing a lightbulb or arranging a hospital appointment. The volunteers are also trained to be aware of various help schemes for seniors, and to aid those who call in about scams.

[10:32 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: With these, those aged 88 years old and above will “continue to see their MediShield Life premiums fully covered”, while those who are younger will have about two-thirds covered, said MOF and MOH

Afterwords:

Can Health/Finance policymakers lower the 88 yrs and above to:

80 and above fully covered, follows by

70 to 79 received 2/3 coverage

60 to 69 will be half covered?

Possible?

[10:37 am, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: What about hospital billed costly when 2030-2040 inflation is rising.

I hope government will effectively more subsidies singaporean

[10:39 am, 15/06/2022] +65 9817xxxx: here's a feedback to owners of the following government websites :

https://form.gov.sg,

https://www.csa.gov.sg/singcert/resources/report-a-phishing-email

and

https://www.police.gov.sg/media-room/news/20200609_others_police_advisory_on_phishing_scams_involving_emails_and_text_messages

after googling on where to report scam email, I visited the above websites. reporting requires submission and/or uploading of scam mail only in .txt file format. this is NOT helpful. I wish the developers or webmaster of the websites be smarter to have considered that scam emails contain QR code which the scam mailer included in the email. A file .txt format cannot contain images.

wish there was an email for us to forward the scam mail to. if it is not made easier to repo…

[10:42 am, 15/06/2022] +Noel: Whilst Medisave top ups are laudable, this only forms the health support component.

Rising costs of food and daily necessities may affect the elderly in their ability to purchase.

For those who do not have a regular income, it may trigger a downward spiral - buying less food, less nutrition, more health problems, lesser time to work, etc.

CPF monthly withdrawals may help a bit, but overall inflation and high cost of living may put them in higher risk of falling into the said spiral.

[10:43 am, 15/06/2022] +65 9817xxxx: please do not be offended nor defensive, but take it as a constructive feedback to continuosly improve public service. most importantly, please take action IMMEDIATELY.

[10:47 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi,

There is a need to converge efforts in countering scams and cheats.

There is a great urgency and a stronger political will in setting up a hotline and hotmail reporting center with direct access to police (white collar, Cyber crimes unit)

How about setting incentives for members of the public and or whistle blowers and or polices whenever a case is solved or criminals apprehended? Cash rewards + Recognitions?

[10:48 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: A existential concern, good points.

We are all here to elevate ideas and resolve issues.

A good starts!

[10:49 am, 15/06/2022] +65 9817xxxx: Dear REACH, are you listening, reading ?  please respond.

[10:51 am, 15/06/2022] +Max: 👍

[11:03 am, 15/06/2022] +Valli: Would prefer a WhatsApp number for us to provide feedback on scam messages & calls.

We can photo snapshot and send the details instantly for the authorities to act on.

Govt feedback apps or email are not user friendly.

WhatsApp can be instantaneous

[11:04 am, 15/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

This REACH WhatsApp forum is meant for discussion on today's topic.

[11:04 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: One service app

[11:05 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Lol off topic is normal… but too much reach will ping us 🤣

[11:07 am, 15/06/2022] +REACH: Dear Contributor,

Thank you for your feedback. We are actively listening. Please be assured that points made by participants in the chat group are aggregated and shared with relevant agencies.

Megan

[11:10 am, 15/06/2022] +Uncle Law: Engage them directly. Hear what they want

[11:10 am, 15/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Oneservice apps can submit 3 photos or image file and can type your case report.

You will get updates on your cases.

[11:13 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Aggressive and Pro Active in pursuing these crimes and these organised criminals, though can be located overseas or better localised - 杀鸡教猴!

[11:13 am, 15/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

An example of a report on scam.

Attached with image files and case report.

Received feedback from the relevant authorities.

[11:15 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Use DAILY media and apprehended cases to campaign till these criminals dare not and think twice before dialling or emailing!

杀鸡教猴!

[11:15 am, 15/06/2022] +Anthony: One Service App reflect the small case but can't solve the bigger problem

[11:16 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hotline + hot email to answer and lodge cases or incidences.

[11:16 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: What's the procedures in lodging reports?

What's the recourse likely be?

[11:16 am, 15/06/2022] +Anthony: 做好看

[11:17 am, 15/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Meaning?

[11:18 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: All processes (programs /initiatives) in this world are subjects to :

Confusing

Conflicting

Competing

Process can be a big pain...

[11:19 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Perhaps Anthony meant,.... Not so effective ways in dealing?

Hope that's what Anthony trying to express... He meant well and a truthful feedback!

[11:21 am, 15/06/2022] +Anthony: They see the problem but not deal with it,

Push this matter to other developer

[11:22 am, 15/06/2022] +Anthony: How to work effectively?

[11:25 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: In the first quarter of the Ukraine war, Putin was led to BELIEF that things were progress exvelkent and according to his mighty trusted generals, spies (FSB) and the ground commands.

Unfortunately, Putin was not informed of the ACTUAL unfavourable situations of the Russians tanks and foot soldiers that resulted in thousands of lost lives and millions of destroyed military equipments.

(disclaimer, not in support of Russia or Ukraine, it is a valuable lesson to learn

"be brave to accept the TRUTH..."

[11:26 am, 15/06/2022] +Anthony: Government agencies should act proactively instead of giving excuses can't do this & that

This culture in Singapore not just 1 or 2 days

It's has being year after year.

App won't solved fundamental problem deep into root

[11:26 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Simplify steps and erase redundancy...

Look out for 3 things

Confusing, conflicting, competing

[11:28 am, 15/06/2022] +Anthony: That's why I remain my remark to this government 做好看 多过做事

[11:28 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Reorganise anx RELOOK at efficiency.

Use Just In Time methods....

Each station of services has time and lapses, the process that matters most...

3 steps or multi steps with complex side steps!

[11:29 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Have to post this point to our Public (Civil) Services Dept or college?

[11:30 am, 15/06/2022] +Anthony: Just like MRT service to me 有地铁站 没有列车

[11:31 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Time = Opportunity = monetary

[11:32 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: What is an organically growing entity, company or organisation?

[11:33 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: How cell grows?

From 1 to billions

[11:34 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: The growing process will have good, bad, medium and dead cells, etc

[11:35 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Not so straight forward, specially if it is operating outside of Singapore.

[11:39 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Ken,

No jurisdiction.... Unless bilateral agreement

[11:39 am, 15/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. The pioneer and merdeka medisave top up appreciated - as it helps my elderly and my in law elderly to boost their medisave to subside their medical expenses as well as pay for the medical insurance.

2. However, we don't get to use the elderly support services.

But elderly care centre and the ACES look like a good scheme to help those elderly who need the extra helping hands.

[11:40 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Even we have bilateral, it is hard to enforce.

Interpol is under funded. And most scam usually operated behind legal business. Which makes it super hard to catch.

[11:45 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Prioritise of crimes.... Terrorism is top follows by criminals and long listed these scammer groups..

Imagine, native enforcement officers coupled with Interpol combing the bushy jungle for drug Lords or storming villages looking for scammer?

[11:46 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Ken,

Immediate remedy perhaps is

"ownself protect ownself money...?"

[11:49 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: If you know the situation interpol no longer as powerful as it use to be… lol under funded bunch of people

[11:49 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: MGs helping PGs, hopefully not too much to ask of ftom our MGs?

A good teaching moment for our Emerging Generation (EG), what's filial piety and buddy buddy system works!

[11:50 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: The process needs MONEY?

[11:50 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Restriction of Use. Which finally they decided to do 🤣 after so long. At the LSP side

[11:50 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: "no money, no action?"

[11:51 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: No action comes.... All CRIMINALS IN ACTION!!!

[11:52 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: The scammer call Center are in the thousands they operate daily. 24/7 all different time zone

https://youtube.com/c/ScammerPayback

Have a rough idea how big they are

[11:52 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: 猫不在,老鼠做怪!!!

[11:53 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: "When the cat's no around, comes the naughty rats... 猫不在,老鼠做怪!!!"

[11:54 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Most they target rich countries will people that are not so bright 😅

[11:55 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Too old, panicked people, family that don’t usually contact each other… so many different schemes.

[11:55 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Exploits weaknesses in people.

[11:56 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: A first happiness, a first indicator of a STRONG GDP based nation?

Don't need analyst or pundits... Scam indicator will speaks louder that charts and economics chats???

[11:56 am, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Government advise us never give out our SingPass. The government said everyone must security ourselves. We didn’t ask anyone give to someone SingPass Passwords and OTP without acknowledgment.

We all must know fell victim scam and sound too good to be true.

[11:57 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Yupp...

Remember that

EXPLORE & EXPLOIT strategy???

Our previous chat sessions....

[11:57 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Err when they teaching old people how to use SingPass ask them to give them password to help them setup 🤣🤣

I see Liao 😅

[11:58 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Some Tech /IT experts suggested using SINGLISH as passwords!

[11:58 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: You to cc and see how they help them register and use their SingPass

[11:58 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: 🤦🏻‍♂️

[11:58 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Within them any nasty people there we go again lol

[11:58 am, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Setup social worker under authority

[11:58 am, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: "die liao (Dire freto 水深火热) ...?"

- - singlish

[11:58 am, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Elderly has hardly how to use

[11:59 am, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Becomes a norm.. then they thought can trust people…

My mum ask me help, then she forgot the password she change when the social worker teach them how to change.. 🤣🤣

I was like… then you want me do what? 🫠

[0:00 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Frankie,

Good point, perhaps MSF needs to scale up efforts to identify, to engage and to reach out and support many elderly and needy citizens, especially those PGs and those going from MGs into PGs.

[0:01 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Idea new ID face recognition

[0:01 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Perhaps use singlish like...

Huatah8888?

[0:01 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Use too often I forgot my SingPass password 🤣🤣🤣

They have a SingPass security pass on top of the SingPass password

[0:02 pm, 15/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Singpass and many banks are using digital token to login - in addition to password.

Singpass also can use biometric.

Banking mobile apps also can prevent accessing phishing bank webpages.

These can help to safeguard against dishing out userid and password.

[0:02 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: 😅 I was like 😅 totally forgot. When you have more than 10 password to remember and dont use often.

[0:02 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Ken, suggestion,

Password: all I Have Only0000

[0:03 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: When at work I change every 90 days.. end up with so many password 🤦🏻‍♂️

For all 4 to 5 accounts

[0:03 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: How is ur level English and IQ? Is still good point right.

To me most time use iPhone ID face recognition

[0:04 pm, 15/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Useful to help elderly using such authentication method - rather than teaching them to use id and password.

[0:04 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Cause use Face ID end up forgot the password 🤣

[0:05 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: My English level very poor 🥲

IQ not really good only normal

[0:05 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Can survive and earn money good enough. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[0:05 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Joke aside, face recognition password will be handy comes that unlucky day....

That person D Day, scsn the face and TRANSFER AND EMPTY ALL MONIES to avoid the long process of PROBATION, get it?

[0:07 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Err Face ID comes with awareness (eyes need to look into camera for it to work) not just picture.. (how good the Face ID not really sure) but should be decent enough hence use for many things now

[0:07 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: CPF and remaining MediSave money will be given to next of kin starting with

Spouse 50%

Kids shared 50%

That's basic probate rule

[0:07 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Close eyes and click your face ID.... For future use fullness?

[0:08 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Practical vs protection

[0:08 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Kiasu vs kiasi

[0:09 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Close eye don’t work… if you turn this on

[0:09 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: To survive is just not good enough....

Pls think deeper this simple sentence, you will see the hidden meanings....

Hidden meanings 话中有话

[0:10 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: I believe the future is developing surface full ID face

[0:10 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: 🤣🤣

[0:10 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Perhaps close or opened eyes, smiling or crying...

THUMB PRINT, THE BEST!!!

[0:11 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Survive means... MONEY IN, MONEY OUT..... towards ZERO!

[0:11 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: As the technology progress.. IRIS will be the next. Thumbprint is not the best.

Face ID by odds is actually better then thumbprint.

[0:12 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: No choice earn little… so survive only 🥲

[0:13 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: https://youtu.be/Q0uAh02-vPU

[0:14 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Everyone is worrying age when we reach 80+ our health physical and mind will become memories lost

[0:14 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Who can look after care our CPF

[0:14 pm, 15/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Young couples with children and may face pressure if also need to look after the elderly.

On the hindsight, if elderly can be put up in elder care center - to be engaged in meaningful activities could be a good thing.

[0:15 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: What about single no child?

[0:16 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: This is the main issue we will have to face… lesser children so the ratio is much lower. The cost to bear per person becomes so much higher.

[0:16 pm, 15/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Depends on each family - what works best for them.

Elderly center is one additional good option.

[0:17 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: Depends on the elderly is they are willing.. those Center is not cheap either

[0:17 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: It is cheaper to get a maid… if the elderly is healthy

[0:17 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Sent them to fold elderly home care centre

[0:17 pm, 15/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

The only thing is, the elderly care centre is not cheap - some family cannot afford.

[0:19 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: A Stable and Honest Government + Diligent Civil Servants

[0:21 pm, 15/06/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Maybe one option is allow elderly to use their CPF to foot the bill for their stay in elderly center.

[0:22 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: No free lunch!

Elderly who opt to relocate to elder care centres will have to portion their CPF +MediSave into these services.

Alternatively, for those deeper pocket elderly, they will hire domestic helps and coupled with responsible children on back and call when issues arise.

These elderly csn also be SINGLE with no dependent or a few trusted niece or nephew that volunteer helping them. Or NO HELP!

[0:22 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Our future government will building more

[0:25 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: This aging... Economics - Social - Politicals (aka ESP)

It will be a big challenge for aging nation, start looking at Japan, follows by South Korea and lastly China for how they would scale these challenges into small bites?

"Small bites WIN...?"

[0:25 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: What is the point couple staying bigger room size when their child move own independent bough home.

[0:43 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Frankie,

Personal choice and preference?

"To each their own challenges 家家有本难读经? "

- - annoymous

[0:46 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: This aging issue need Multi ministerial efforts, the entire ministries to chip in and resolve coming ESP challenges.

In addition, this ESP should also be calculated into the ESG too.

If you amulgamate ESP +ESG, you will see the sweets, sours and the unknowns _ Strategic Planning!

[1:11 pm, 15/06/2022] +Caleb: What is esp and esg?

[1:27 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Aging Future

[1:58 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: The fact tt such requests still exist or have not bn updated reflects the quality and intellectual capabilities of our civil service IT team - either no one is actively looking into this (and monitoring it constantly),  or the IT team needs to be changed - as they themselves are not keeping up with the times, and in this case,  w the scammers.

Scammers r creative and resourceful .  Do we hv such talent in the gov service and r they being the chance to flex their skills in the IT dept.

How is it tt gov websites r so easy to hack into?  Has no one asked this?

If u r to lead the nation,  you shd set the example.

Be Pro-Active,

Not Re-Active...

Stay several steps ahead of the scammers,  not just develop codes and more codes...

It's abt understanding…

[2:03 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi RH,

Perhaps a few ways in looking at this existing threat of scams and cheats.

The administrative services as you mentioned need to RELOOK at how they organise, portion their responsibilities across ministries and agencies.

Two, these scams and cheats. Thr combined behavioral aspect is a complex snd organised crime in making. What the police caught are runners, the bigger bosses are their backers.

Third, there are leakages within say a bank whereby staffs leak information to the criminal contacts.

"if there is smoke, the forest is burning inside out...!"

- - annoymous

[2:14 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: Exactly.

Such tech threats wl evolve as well.

The sooner our gov services get their act together, the better.

We r not just talking abt scammers, but big time syndicates tt attack fr outside our shores.

3 very vulnerable departments are :

our defence ,

our National healthcare system,

our Utilities

As times r uncertain these days, we r running out of time to strengthen our defence line - not just physically but also technologically.

Someone once told me...  The next war may not be fought on the battlefield,  but by pushing buttons!   Meaning,  technologically!

And our tech infrastructure is just catnip to potential tech arsonists & hijackers...  🙄

Our gov needs to look into these areas to strengthen our tech defence.

[2:15 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: One services app,  though it has improved tremendously (I've used it)  is not for reporting crimes.

It wud be easier to deal direct w the relevant authority on crime prevention. 😉

[2:27 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Oversea hot-spot for these mushrooms are Eastern Europe, Bali and Vietnam...

(Disclaimer, not discriminating people or nations)

[2:29 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: Dear Frankie,

Pardon my directness.

One possible reason is the "comfort" of space that a person is used to and not be restricted within your own home.

Also "freedom" to move around in the house without strangers.

I understand this because I m living alone in a 4-room flat.

A fren suggested renting the spare rooms out for addl income.  Gd point but I value my "freedom" and social spacing too much to give it up for the sake of earning the extra bucks.

I dun wan to come home to seeing strangers use my kitchen / common bathroom / hanging ard in my living room...

And I hv to retreat to my own room instead of the other way ard...  Lol.

😂😂😂

I value my personal space.

Besides, the couple has probably bn living ther for a long time w their kids till their kids hv grown up.

Wher do u suggest they go?

[2:31 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: Our civil service / gov shd keep themselves updated on such Intel and Pro-actively keep up w the evolving times & their tactics.

[2:33 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Personal choices, needs and wants.

[2:34 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: That's what perhaps REACH job to listen for tips, lobangs and suggestions.

One way game?

[2:39 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: How abt building more Retirement - cum-Community homes?

Ther r many healthy aging seniors who do not necessarily need elder care services.

Such seniors want independence and yet enjoy social interaction.

So, if seniors can hv a retirement hm to move to but tt is within a community (w easy access to healthcare ie. doctors/ nurses as well fitness amenities like small garden,  pool,  gym),  that would be ideal.

They can continue to live out their lives till end day and still enjoy good social company.  ..

Ther shd be a choice of owning or renting such homes,  as not all seniors may be able to afford to buy one.

And build at least one in Each corner of Singapore,  ie.  North,  South,  East,  West,  Central.

[2:40 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: I agreed this question

It’s up to people choice personal and wanted to have a good spare home. It’s feel like comforting at home. Or value buy back shame lease more profit for retire.

[2:42 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: Only time will tell if they hv bn  listening or not.

Some action and announcement of action to be taken is a good indication to us tt they r listening.

Like...  "the (__) service is looking into revamping the tech capabilities...

Or hiring more local and creative talent to complement/lead the existing tech pool...

😉

Lol ....

[2:43 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: Problem w lease buy back scheme.

If you outlive your projected years and are still alive after the scheme ends,  then Wher do you stay?  🙄

[2:45 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: When is the gov gg to build some of these in the EAST side of Singapore?

I feel such schemes shd be extended across the board throughout the island,  not always concentrated on the North & West (wonder why?) regions of Singapore...

[2:45 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Fragrance, the developer, has a completed project in Jalan Jurong Kechil... Was intended for retirees and seniors... Became a multi age group community?

More info / link,  pls.

Tks!

[2:47 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Cheap PSF, then, attacked the younger EG that bought most of the units.... Unintended consequence... That's one lesson learned!

[2:47 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: What their choice would have benefit for retire at 75 after Whether they would want replacement older worker or downsize room.

CPF May have enough by the year 2050 what is contributions min top up require RA???

[2:49 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Frankie,

A Big Topic... Replacements and Contributions...

Wait....

[2:50 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: Sounds like it can be avoided if you are a bit more conservative eg. buffer up to 100 years old?

[2:50 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: 100 year old I may wish to gone 😂

[2:52 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: problem is if you are not gone .. .that's what ~RH's comment is about .. what if "outlive ..projected years..."

[2:53 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: Lesson learnt...  They shd hv set limits on purchase use like meant for 50's / 60's & abv to live in?

Or ensure ther is at least one elderly name registered to buy the unit

or sth like tt...  ?

[2:53 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: Tq, Joseph.

[2:55 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Yupp...

Profit vs wants

[2:55 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: Indeed

[2:56 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: Er...  JJK...  In Bukit Timah...  Can't be "cheap" .

Not in the East region either.

[2:57 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Then...

[2:58 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: Really tiny...  400sf for $400k...  😅😅😅

[2:59 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Outlive Project year, then we may have a pension in contributions for our old age when government look at value age.

The future beyond.

[3:02 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: That is a question to ask Reach...

Wat if outlive projected years + no more pension money to buy / rent a place to live?

Or can the occupant continue to live in the home,  even tho alredi sold bk to gov,  but on a rental basis or something like tt, till he does?

[3:02 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: ** dies

👆🏻more of such homes,  but in other regions of Singapore...  Such as East side.

[3:08 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: What I meant it that if the worry is that the Seller may outlive the remaining lease on his/her flat after lease buyback, then maybe the person can be more conservative, and retain sufficient lease to cover remaining years ... maybe up to 100yo instrad of 85yo .. all depends on the person's risk tolerance etc

[3:13 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Then HDB revise 200 years instead 99 years

[3:13 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Lease 99 year = human age live 99 year old.

- "Two is not enough, Three is Happy, and Four Will Be Ideal (两个不够, 三是好的开始, 四个是理想幸福美满的家庭) ..?"

The question of spanning towards 100 years old?

Replacement model:

In the real world scenario, 2.0 will be the ideal replacement /fertility ratio.

1) Two lego block, each represent 1 replacement.

2) let the current generation be CG, the emerging generation be EG and the MG and PG as we all are familiar with.

3) The PG, MG and CG each has TWO LEGO BLOCKS stack up one after another, in respective stack upwards.

4) The EG with 1 block at the bottom of the three Stacks.

Questions:

Where's the tipping point?

Where will this single EG Stacks going into the next generational cycle of block(s)?

If lifespan of a given population say 20…

[3:20 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Relocation, it is a SERS scheme, 99% have moved to Margaret Drive.

It about time to renew and a new environment to continue living....

[3:21 pm, 15/06/2022] +Sam: I understand that the lease buy back is for resident to live till 95. Beyond 95, probably a better place is nursing home if the elderly is not living with a younger person who can take care of him/her

[3:22 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: HDB has a 30 years lease studio for our elderly to purchase. Resale to HDB only.

[3:31 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Charity foundation msy have to step in to assist the short funds, nursing homes of tomorrow will not come cheap!

A need to plan and count the needed finances...

[3:34 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: Mortality age of Singaporeans are currently 80yo for Males and 85 for Females

[3:36 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: Most are only eligible to purchase HDB at 18yo  (i think) ,,, but given the recent prices ... more likely 30+ combined income then can afford 😅  99 lease would easily cover till 117yo assuming you buy at 18yo

[3:36 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/more-living-to-100-years-old-in-singapore

[3:38 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: 900 ... out of  more than 5 million ... sure,,, makes perfect sense to increase the lease term to 200 years and double the price .. i am sure the 99.99% or Singaporeans will agree with you 😂😂😂

[3:38 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: For sure flexible lease buy short

[3:38 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Lol

[3:44 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: I think the Govt had been forward looking enough to have already looked into this issue ... hence the "experiment" with shorter lease land parcels earmarked for "retirement villages" etc.. more fine tuning needed for sure

[3:45 pm, 15/06/2022] +Sam: If the house ownership is more than 90% , and if the lease is up to 200 years, either more people will be owning more than 2 HDB flats ( which is not possible) or the home ownship rate got to drop. Otherwise,  HDB got to stop building and future generations got to live in old flats

[3:51 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: but what I think the Govt has to really look into, is ways to prevent speculative demand from driving up prices of retirement homes/village facilities/costs.

[3:53 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: https://www.simge.edu.sg/news/singapores-ageing-population-and-nursing-looking-to-the-future/

[3:53 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Other topics about amk HDB holder resident they have to top up move in SERS with new lease. But they are too old to work and not enough saving CPF. Either downgrade size room

If 200 years live in old flat pass generation to child they won’t have to top. But I am sure old flat a lot money spent upgrade engineering structures.

View their choice.

[3:54 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: By 2030, 25% of our popn will be over 65 yo.

By 2050, 50% .

[3:59 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: Gov shd look into having controls in place to eliminate price speculation for such retirement homes.

They shd make it such tt if the units nd to be resold..  eg on the death of a senior,  the new buyer must

1. Also be abv 60 yo

2. Ther is no added price increase other than inflation / market price fluctuation based on the age of the flat at time if sale.

Ther shd also be a limit on how many times such flats can be sold within 6 months or a year. This wl eliminate speculation.

And any other guidelines the Auth can dream of to ensure the units r owned by seniors and lived in by seniors.

Similar rules shd also apply to rental of such targeted units.

[4:00 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: * time of sale

[4:01 pm, 15/06/2022] +Guillermo Cabeza: These are very good ideas.

[4:05 pm, 15/06/2022] +KSFoong: Should limit the number of time a person could enjoy Subsidized housing or a max anount a person could enjoy for housing subsidy. The main purpose of the scheme is to help people to own a government flat. Not to help them in speculation!

[4:05 pm, 15/06/2022] +Caleb: I thought already have for HDB?

[4:06 pm, 15/06/2022] +Guillermo Cabeza: A problem I see for the older generations is that as we live longer and with inflation possibly higher in future, it isn’t going to work to have fixed annuity CPF, to force people to move from flats which are only 40 years old (and hence have to top up or downsize), all while costs for daily items are rising. Handouts like the ones announced aren’t going to address the problem in the long term. CPF should have a variable return component more tied to Temasek/GIC returns to protect against inflation. Housing should be built to be lived in for longer (60-70years) so that a couple can buy and not have to worry about moving when they are much older.

[4:09 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Frankie & Joseph,

Assuming a couple bought 1st flat at age 35 yrs and live till next 40 years.

Assuming SERS on this block of flats, couple would-be 75 yrs old.

Assuming couple or single then wishes to purchase a studio, it comes with 30 years lease.

This case the couple or the single person would have gotten a bigger payout from the SERS program.

Affordability vs Practicality

Hope answered some concerns?

[4:10 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: The difference between investment gain by GIC and CPF.

Is to pay for additional budget use by government other than tax. 😅

If they give us all the returns where got extra to invest further

[4:10 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Ken,

No comment....

[4:11 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: Other than privately owned/held ones, maybe the Govt should also explore Govt/Subsidised Retirement Villages.

If we can have HDB for everyone, why not Govt-owned/managed Retirement Villages?

Have criteria in place and admit residents on needs/means-tested basis.

Subsidised rents that can be paid for via direct deduction of CPF Life payouts since this will cover till end of life.

Priority for Residents who are paying for the rent via CPF Life payouts - might also encourage children to top-up the CPF of their aged parents.

Build it as a hub with Aged-centric care facilities etc

[4:13 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Guillemo,

Construction materials usually lasted around 40 years to 45 years, especially prefab and concrete.

It is prudent to tear and rebuild?

Let's think of remaking a new and more conducive living environments across age groups.

Workable?

[4:14 pm, 15/06/2022] +Guillermo Cabeza: Sure, and this has worked well. However it doesn't help a couple that sets aside CPF Life at age 65 or 70, thinks they are living in a home until the end and then has to move during a SERS exercise and on top of that everything is costing more. While some elderly have the capacity to invest more proactively many won't and the current fixed income + higher costs is not a good combination. I'm suggesting that there be some flexibility in how CPF payouts are structured to take into account inflation.

[4:14 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Retirement villages have been around in the US, Australia etc...

Worth studying the lapses and advantages...

[4:16 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: The balance between supply and demand. If there is no value in buy HDB, as the value won’t increase. (interest will not be paid)

By the time the person sell will have lesser than higher. But then again price is push up by supply and demand.

[4:16 pm, 15/06/2022] +Guillermo Cabeza: It's tough with the climate. I just don't think it's sustainable to require a top up for a like for like space. I guess it depends on how the costing is for a 30 year lease (65yrs --> 95yrs) in a retirement home and whether there is anything left over. Not everyone can depend on children to help.

[4:17 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Personal abilities, financial planning and a lifetime of savings....

As for inflation and cost6of livings, surely all things go up as time value of money too.

Perhaps, discipline in terms of personal expenditures and taking prudent steps whether in reinvesting on equities, insurance, etc....

All the above need knowledge and discipline!

"saving it for the coming rainy days..."

[4:17 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: We had government control to prevent foreigner from pushing the price too high by taxing.

And restricting them from buying after getting PR. But yet the price didn’t come down 🤷🏻‍♂️

[4:17 pm, 15/06/2022] +Sam: Our 2 room flexi short lease flat is almost a retirement flat with all the elderly friendly features such as grab bar, anti slip floor, alarm etc. On top of that, usually, there is a senior activity centre at the void deck or nearby.

[4:18 pm, 15/06/2022] +RH: Current limit is up to 2x to enjoy subsidy

[4:18 pm, 15/06/2022] +Sam: The question is what do you want to have in a retirement village

[4:20 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: 😅 so we prefer to buy a small house… no room for growth?

Upgrade only after having more kids?

The subsidy I would find it quite fair. Currently…

[4:22 pm, 15/06/2022] +Ken Loh: But due to the price of flat.. over time only the rich will stay in the Central or prime area.

Something have to do about it to prevent that from happening

[4:23 pm, 15/06/2022] +Frankie Wee: Transaction market show that higher sold affect HDB index up level then government additional housing grand more than previous

Our previous price much affordable and less housing grand

[4:26 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: A retirement Village is much more than that...

Design of walkways/amenities OUTSIDE of one's home to accommodate and enable better mobility for the aged.

Medical Facilities focused on Aged care - just like we have KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

Community comprising of mostly Aged Residents will attract and enable specialised/specialist services to locate within the "village". Proximity and cost efficiencies/savings for both the service providers and the Residents.

It is quite different from what we have with the 2br flats where the external environment is still very much designed for the younger families/residents.

[4:30 pm, 15/06/2022] +Guillermo Cabeza: Also there has to be services for those who have been afflicted with dementia - evolving as the conditions deteriorate.

[4:32 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: Is it because the location is Central/Prime that the "rich" choose to live there.... or is it because the "rich" moves into a particular area, that it "becomes" Central/Prime?

[4:44 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Main entrance road stretches to Macpherson Road junction...

[4:44 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: I think it is a good idea for the Govt to have restrictions on profiting from "Subsidised" housing.

In fact, make it more stringent.

We no longer need the kind of Property/Asset price inflation from the 80s in order to keep pace with the low single digit inflation rate of a developed Nation.

We are no longer a largely under-educated/blue collar workforce. Neither is our economy transitioning from a developing/emerging one to a developed Nation within 1 generation.

We are already at the Developed Nation phase, facing the challenges of maintaining competitiveness in the face of an aging (and declining) population, within a highly integrated Global economy that is similarly struggling to "engineer" growth.

We do not have a debt problem that need inflating away.

[4:47 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: In another words...

Housing becoming a needs and no more a speculative means. Also towards price stability?

That's a tall order, with the incoming new citizens, new PRs and the UHNWIs.

A million ways of thinking, this housing policy game of gains?

[4:58 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: We can't stop the 1% from paying more and pushing prices up.. but the segment they "play" in, is not the space that the majority of us will be concerned with.

One of the biggest challenges - which is also an important pillar - of growth, is population growth. Why has our Govt - and many others to be fair - been so unsuccessful in reversing falling birth rates despite various generous "gifts" to encourage people to have kids?

I suspect the answer is not so much about the cost of bringing up a child, but more about the child's prospects AFTER spending so much to bring him/her up.

Education

Cost of Living

Job Opportunities

Safety/Security

Fix the above. When the people are hopeful of the future, they will have kids.

What the Chinese Government did recently to clamp down on "over-education"/tuition centres/enrichment classes, uncontrolled property price escalation from speculation, concentration of wealth in the hands of certain companies/owners etc .. that is a good place to start.

[6:14 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Sam, Our Tanglin Halt residents' new HOMES.

[6:16 pm, 15/06/2022] +Joseph: Yes... and what was our education focused on 10 years ago? bearing in mind, these are the ones graduating into today's job market looking for talents in those areas? Is it still any wonder why we need to import more talent?

[6:25 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Joseph,

Let REACH direct our concerns, immediate action or perhaps our government knows and planning now.

For things always evolving, "what's hot then may not be hot now?"

EXAMPLE is Business related degrees are not so hot these days, abundance of graduates?

Supply & Demand always in play.

Moreover an old saying, "good things don't come easily...?"

[6:28 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Excellent talents MUST be absorb into our system.

Simply, MNCs will go abd will hire where TALENTS meet, Singapore is now a sweetie pie!

A safer Haven too for talents and their accompanying immediate family to stay and to contribute into our economies!

Every true high quality talent must be absorbed or otherwise many neighbors will take them..

Your lost is my gain or the reversal?

[6:32 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: 3) "the more people one nation's have over the others, the higher the chances of talents and breakthroughs in innovation or technology."

[6:36 pm, 15/06/2022] +Smiley face: Covid times - perhaps is a fight for life or death

Post covid now - perhaps a battle in formation to secure livelihoods

That's what future historians may summerise in big words?
