Initial investigations indicated that the disruption was due to a "power-related issue", Singtel said in an update on its Facebook page at 1.20am on Friday.

Normally if the main power failure occurs - the centralised UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) will take over to prevent power from being cut off to the data centre network equipment.

When this happen, it will trigger the backup power generator to kicks in and take over from the main power supply source until the main power supply source recover.

If this is the scenarios, then a power related failure to the data centre will not have occured.

A more redundant design will be - as each data centre equipment have at least 2 power sockets - each power sockets can be tapped into 2 different power supply sources from 2 separate power supply sub-station.

If one sub-station fails, the data centre equipment can still run from the 2nd power sockets that are plug into the 2nd sub-station - and will not trigger a power related failure.
