I think it is worthwhile to study how much economic benefits will Singapore gain - in terms of jobs created for Singaporeans, business revenue generated for Singapore business - in committing such a big sum for this HSR.

So far we will be committing millions and could be billions of dollars into the HSR.

But it will be good for us to know what are the benefits will Singaporeans reap with the HSR with tangible numbers will be easy to visualise.

  I think security may not be slacken :-

  (1) If our side is build underground, there is no way for smugglers to throw guns or drugs out of the train into an open area - to be collected by their accomplices. They only can throw into underground tunnel which can be detected by CCTV and no way for accomplice to collect any offensive materials such as guns or drugs.

  (2) As it is a 100 passenger carriage, 100 passenger will still need to go through custom on foods and all luggages can be inspected. Thus better security as compared to trucks or cars crossing customs as there could be more hidden compartment to hids guns or drugs.

  100 passengers - for eg. 10 booth can clear 10 passengers - should be a brisk.

  Security is much less of a concern.

  What economic benefits to us can be reaped from the massive investment is one main concern. Will investment move north due to cheaper cost but not coming down south?

  Will more cheaper labour force take away our jobs and local workers got crowd out?

  Only Tangible numbers and actual benefits reap by Singaporeans will allay the fear.

  And assume Singaporeans do reap economic benefits from the HSR, will the project outlast political risk as this is a more than 10 years project.

  Will there be political will to sustain this project.
