[10:44 am, 23/04/2021] +REACH: Topic

How can we as a community encourage one another to be vaccinated, and to continue observing safe management measures amidst the persistence of Covid-19?

In response to a patient testing positive despite receiving both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, MOH said that the Covid-19 vaccine is effective in preventing symptomatic disease for the vast majority of those vaccinated, but it is still possible for vaccinated individuals to get infected. It is also a reminder that we cannot afford to let our guard down.

Minister Lawrence Wong announced yesterday that all long-term pass holders and short-term visitors who have travelled to India within the last 14 days will not be allowed to enter or transit through Singapore, as the country goes on "heightened alert" against Covid-19.

Minister added that the spate of new strains detected in other countries is a worrying development. He also noted the possibility that after this round of vaccination, we might have to continue with further rounds of vaccination, because we will have to be confronting not just the virus today, but potentially new strains of the virus that maybe more infectious and virulent.

[10:46 am, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: design better mask that is comfortable in SG hot weather

[10:48 am, 23/04/2021] ☸️  Danny :

1. The vaccinated worker 2nd jab is on 13 Apr. 16 April he got running nose - that means his anti-bodies has still not develop to become effective. 18 April he tested infection.

So the vaccination is not ineffective, the 2nd jab has not exceeded 21 days to develop the anti-bodies to be effective.

2. Those other 10 or more reinfected workers are not vaccinated. This means their anti-bodies from 1st infection have diminished.

3. Medical experts say that the effectiveness of the vaccines should last for 1 and a half year.

[10:49 am, 23/04/2021]   Danny :

This means that even previously infected people need to be vaccinated to be effective - to prevent re-infection.

[10:51 am, 23/04/2021]   Danny :

1. Current vaccinations can curb many variants.

2. Previous infection can be due to 1 variant, and may succumb if another variant come into play.

3. Look like voluntary vaccination is not the solution.

4. Compulsory vaccination maybe the long term final solution.

[11:12 am, 23/04/2021] +Ben: Let everyone who wants to be vaccinated get vaccinated, not spending time on those who don't. Once all those who want to be vaccinated are, then do a public campaign on the success of the vaccination, the safety and importance of protecting yourself, your colleagues and family and friends.

[11:12 am, 23/04/2021] +Ben: People will always point to isolated cases where the vaccine didn't work and then say it's no point. So - show people how effective it has been around the world, not just in Singapore.

[11:12 am, 23/04/2021] +Sugeng Shi: Agree on this. Cover all who want first and then worry about those who don't want.

[11:14 am, 23/04/2021] +Ben: Start promoting additional benefits of being vaccinated, such as ability to travel without quarantine (assuming negative test as well), attendance of events.

[11:15 am, 23/04/2021] +Ben: Also, perhaps talk about Singapore opening borders to people who are vaccinated and have a negative test. Again, promoting the positives of vaccination

[11:15 am, 23/04/2021] +Ben: Highlight those who may have been reinfected actually got very mild symptoms and otherwise might have been hospitalised.

[11:24 am, 23/04/2021] +REACH: Singapore may have further rounds of COVID-19 vaccination: Lawrence Wong

Singapore might have to continue with further rounds of vaccination even beyond this year, the co-chair of the COVID-19 multi-ministry task force Lawrence Wong said on Thursday (Apr 22).

[11:30 am, 23/04/2021]   Danny :

https://sg.yahoo.com/news/350-local-imported-cases-various-covid-variants-so-far-moh-102122436.html                                                                                                                                                  Many variants have reached Singapore.

[11:33 am, 23/04/2021] +Rama: yes

[11:40 am, 23/04/2021] +Ben: We just need to know which vaccines are effective against which variants and to what extent.

[11:42 am, 23/04/2021]   Danny :

[11:44 am, 23/04/2021] +An fan: Those imported cases, when passengers boarded flights overseas, were they tested negative? Or no test at all

[11:52 am, 23/04/2021] +Rama: no reciprocal agreement for data input on this between carriers.

[0:43 pm, 23/04/2021] +Stella Yip: https://www.straitstimes.com/asia/south-asia/passenger-with-positive-covid-19-test-recovered-before-flight-to-india-sats

[0:43 pm, 23/04/2021] +Stella Yip: A Sats spokesman told The Straits Times (ST): "The passenger had recovered from a recent infection of Covid-19 virus, and she was issued a Fit to Fly health certificate after being assessed by a Singapore doctor. The process of allowing the passenger to board complied with the stringent air travel protocols of Singapore's Ministry of Health."

[0:45 pm, 23/04/2021] +Stella Yip: Hope MOH review the process/standards/criteria of private doctors for issuing "Fit to Fly" health certs.

[0:54 pm, 23/04/2021] +Stella Yip: Hope MOH also review process/standards/criteria of "Fit to Work" for recovered covid patients.   Just in case recovered covid 19 patients in dorms also....

[1:00 pm, 23/04/2021] +Ben: Indeed. I suppose it can't be 100% accurate though.

[1:13 pm, 23/04/2021]   Danny : https://www.forbes.com/sites/siladityaray/2021/04/20/double-mutant-covid-variant-heres-what-we-know-as-israel-reports-vaccine-efficacy-against-variant-first-detected-in-india/

Double Mutant Covid Variant: Heres What We Know As Israel Reports Vaccine Efficacy Against Variant First Detected In India

[1:18 pm, 23/04/2021]   Danny : Even double mutated variants from India - Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine is partially effective as reported by Israel.

[1:22 pm, 23/04/2021] +Valli: I wish the authorities could do a thorough testing of all the travellers who have arrived here for the past 2months or more, from overseas, as some could be asymptomatic.

Including those who have been quarantine & gave clearance.

To prevent any slip-ups that may have occurred.

[1:24 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb:

[1:27 pm, 23/04/2021] +Stella Yip:

[1:30 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: Sounds logical. Based on the current cases, they caught it during the jab period

[1:30 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: It is worth knowing the reason for people getting infected even after taking two doses of the corona vaccine.

The second dose is to be taken 21/28 days after the first dose of the corona vaccine.

The vaccine starts to form antibodies immediately after entering the body.

When antibodies are forming in our body, our immunity decreases a lot.

When we take the second dose of the vaccine after the 21/28 days, our immunity decreases even more.

14 days after the second dose, when the antibodies are completely formed in our body, our immunity starts to grow rapidly.

During this one and a half month, due to low immunity, the chances of the corona virus entering our body are very high. It is due to an exposure to the virus at this vulnerable time tha…

[1:43 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: I got a question. I thought all workers in marina workers have been vaccinated liao

[1:43 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: *Marine sector

[1:44 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: Is it because these have the virus before, so can't jab yet?

[1:46 pm, 23/04/2021] +Ben: Do you have a source for this information? I've not read anywhere your immunity goes down after the vaccination

[1:48 pm, 23/04/2021] +Thomas: UK declare out of pandemic because of the success of the vaccine ??? Is it true ?

[1:48 pm, 23/04/2021] ☸  Danny : Israel 60% vaccination saw a deep dive in infection until today - even with new variants hitting Israel shore.

It shows that Israel vaccination is largely successful in curbing new infection.

[1:49 pm, 23/04/2021] +Rama: we can learn something here

[1:49 pm, 23/04/2021] +Rama: l doubt so

[1:50 pm, 23/04/2021] +Ben: No mention here of decreased immunity after the vaccine jab: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/different-vaccines/how-they-work.html

[1:56 pm, 23/04/2021]   Danny : https://medicalxpress.com/news/2021-03-hails-vaccine-success-cases-plateau.html

US see 1st sign of vaccination success - as infection plateau.

But many hesitant people still have not received jabs.

[1:59 pm, 23/04/2021]   Danny :

UK vaccination also see large drop in infection.

[2:03 pm, 23/04/2021]   Danny :

UK predominant strain is B117 UK strain.

The vaccines - Pfizer-BioNTech band AstraZeneca vaccines are still effective against this strain.

[2:06 pm, 23/04/2021] +jimmy chew: Is this true?

[2:06 pm, 23/04/2021]   Danny :

Pfizer-BioNTech - 90 to 95% effective against B117.

AstraZeneca - 70 to 80% effective.

[2:07 pm, 23/04/2021]   Danny :

Straits times reports.

[2:31 pm, 23/04/2021]   Danny : https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/pfizer-covid-19-shot-effective-for-people-with-chronic-diseases-14674886

CNA report confirm Israel vaccination success in preventing infection.

[2:34 pm, 23/04/2021]   Danny :

Israel vaccination not yet reach herd immunity of 80% - now only at 60% - but show a sharp drop in infection despite many variants.

This is a reassuring news to us and the world.

[2:35 pm, 23/04/2021] +Leonard Lau: They are also very disciplined too . I doubt vaccination is the only success factor

[2:36 pm, 23/04/2021] +SL:

[2:36 pm, 23/04/2021]   Danny :

Yes.

Singapore must encourage more people to take the vaccines.

[3:33 pm, 23/04/2021] +richard Wong: Mr Lawrence Wong and Mr Ong Ye Kung just took over the Education and Transport only recently and change again !!!

[3:35 pm, 23/04/2021] +Elena Woo: Main concern is who will then be the next PM in line?

[3:35 pm, 23/04/2021] +Elena Woo:

[3:36 pm, 23/04/2021] +WJ: likely Lawrence.

[3:36 pm, 23/04/2021] +Elena Woo: Hope so ba...

[3:37 pm, 23/04/2021] +CQ: i actually can't tell for OYK whether it's a "you've done so far, let's rotate you through", or "why every time you say the word 'bubble', everything will burst?? better move you away so that the bubble can actually form......"

[3:38 pm, 23/04/2021] +Stella Yip: Hi, just heard that Indians have found a way to overcome new restriction. They will get Sri Lanka/Nepal visa, stay here for 14 days first.

[3:38 pm, 23/04/2021] +Stella Yip: If true, how?

[3:38 pm, 23/04/2021] +Elena Woo: I think shd extend 21 days quarantine to Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh... i also heard some go by other channels.

[3:39 pm, 23/04/2021] +Elena Woo: And stop short term visitors from these countries...

[3:40 pm, 23/04/2021] +Stella Yip: Agree

[3:40 pm, 23/04/2021] +Stella Yip: Hope G faster react to their reaction.

[3:40 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: then DPM is OYK

[3:40 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: maybe like that can test water

[3:40 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: if both can work tog

[3:44 pm, 23/04/2021] +Rama: Our government is alert, though

[3:44 pm, 23/04/2021] +Rama: Great

[3:45 pm, 23/04/2021] +Sam: Lawrence Wong's promotion is obvious since he has been in MOF for long time and has experience in it. OYK came out from MOE and can't be going back there. CCS is quite an obvious choice since he is front runner and never interact with the young and those nurturing the young. Since Desmond Lee is not rotated, I guess he is out of the race. The rest are just to fill the vacancies after the 3 being rotated.

[3:46 pm, 23/04/2021] +CQ: i can't help thinking about the irony of having Josephine Teo as MinComms though... we all know how she is with communication.......

[3:46 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: ya lor

[3:48 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: means Mr Heng no more minister?

[3:48 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb: just a MP?

[3:49 pm, 23/04/2021] +Valli: yes agree on this. Bangladesh cases are also rising.  they are not testing on the variant.

[3:50 pm, 23/04/2021] +Sam: Mr Heng is DPM.

[3:51 pm, 23/04/2021] +Sam: He only relinquish Minister of Finance post

[3:57 pm, 23/04/2021] +Thomas:

[3:59 pm, 23/04/2021] +Rama: my sentiments exactly

[4:10 pm, 23/04/2021] +REACH: 2 community cases, 1 dormitory resident among 39 new COVID-19 infections in Singapore

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/covid-19-cases-dormitory-community-imported-moh-apr-23-14677758

[4:12 pm, 23/04/2021] +Rama: Going up in the figures!?

[4:26 pm, 23/04/2021] ☸  Danny :

Ideally, one Minister should oversee smart nation solutions embedded with cyber security solutions in mind.

Security will then be part of the integrated smart nation solutions and not an afterthought or a separate unintegrated solution

[4:30 pm, 23/04/2021] +KS Foong: Just a side track, anyway to check if a person is a real handicap or fake one. I saw someone looks perfectly alright riding a electric cars with seats come into the bus. His vehicle took up a big space in the bus. Anyway to prevent people abusing the rights?

[4:34 pm, 23/04/2021]   Danny :

Many of the compromise IT infrastructure are planned separately from cyber security.

Only after the infrastructure is deployed, security then try to retrofit - resulted in  vulnerabilities that are exploited by international hackers.

[5:01 pm, 23/04/2021] +Elena Woo: What u think the person perfectly alright may have muscle issues that cannot be seen and require to use mobility assistance.

[5:02 pm, 23/04/2021] +Elena Woo: Don't assume that u think u know the person just by looking at their appearance

[5:03 pm, 23/04/2021] +REACH: Dear contributors,

We would like to hear more from you on today's topic. We have had good feedback from this group, and we hope that we can keep the discussion robust and active!

Megan

[5:04 pm, 23/04/2021] +Wilson Leong: We should make those can vaccinate and still not yet vaccine to be a compulsory one. To protect the  majority of people in Singapore

[5:05 pm, 23/04/2021] +Alvin Lim: For vax one, saying this again: ERP (Encourage, Reward, Promote).

For SMM, need to do enforcement otherwise ppl are taking for granted already.

My 2.14 cents

[5:09 pm, 23/04/2021] +Ben: What are the clear and simple reasons SG wants people vaccinated? Protect our hospitals, protect our kids, protect our economy. All of those are vulnerable from a Covid outbreak. It's as simple as that.

[5:11 pm, 23/04/2021] +Rama: protect and grow our economy

[5:12 pm, 23/04/2021] +Ben: Yes - let's keep the message clear, relatable and without risk.

[5:12 pm, 23/04/2021] +Ben: Is it strange we are seeing an increase in local cases again?

[5:19 pm, 23/04/2021] +CQ: i think our ambassadors/ enforcement people have also taken things for granted themselves. they're not walking their own talk

[5:21 pm, 23/04/2021] +Rama: revamped much needed drastically

[6:00 pm, 23/04/2021] +Ben: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/apr/22/people-in-england-could-get-covid-passports-for-foreign-travel-by-17-may?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other

[6:01 pm, 23/04/2021] +Ben: Will Singapore adopt a similar plan to allow quarantine free travel? I would hope a test woukd still be administer and maybe a 3 day SHN with another test at the end

[6:04 pm, 23/04/2021] +Rama: I believe our government is working on this.

[6:06 pm, 23/04/2021] +Caleb:

[6:45 pm, 23/04/2021] +REACH: Dear Contributors,

⏰ We will be closing the chat in 15 minutes ⏰
