[10:00 am, 12/07/2021] +REACH: 📢 Topic 📢

Larger groups of five people will be allowed to dine in at eateries from today (July 12). However, unvaccinated seniors remain the most vulnerable to new Covid-19 infections as Singapore continues to ease restrictions in its reopening, said ministers chairing a task force tackling the pandemic.

How can we encourage more seniors to get vaccinated, as Singapore shifts towards preparing to live with endemic COVID-19?

Efforts have been ongoing to encourage seniors to take the jab. Volunteers and staff from the People's Association (PA) have been going door to door across the island since the start of this year to talk to the elderly about vaccines and address their concerns. They have been aided by doctor-volunteers, who go along at times to help answer health-related questions.

Despite this, vaccination rates among seniors appear to have plateaued in the past month.

"Our seniors are highly vulnerable to the severe effects of Covid-19 when they get infected. We must do all we can to avoid high hospitalisation or mortality rates amongst our seniors when we open up," said Finance Minister Lawrence Wong in a Facebook post last Friday.

"So if you have elderly parents, grandparents or relatives who are still not vaccinated, please reach out to them and persuade them to get their jabs soon."

[10:07 am, 12/07/2021] +Caleb: how come never increase from 50 pax to 100 pax for cinemas and congre & worship services?

Am sure hawker centers and food courts got more than 100 pax in a place

[10:15 am, 12/07/2021] +Timothy Low: Incentivise those who get vaccinated. Allow dine in up to 8 pax for those vaccinated. If not vaccinated can only allow dine in in 2s

[10:17 am, 12/07/2021] +Dan: Where is the badge to show u r vaccinated? 🤣

[10:18 am, 12/07/2021] +Timothy Low: This is my badge

[10:27 am, 12/07/2021] +Dan: For uncle aunty not using smart phone leh?

[10:28 am, 12/07/2021] +Caleb: for business, they can scan their token or TT mobile app to check if they are vaccinated...

[10:28 am, 12/07/2021] +Caleb: for business that need to verify to admit entry for vax or PET is needed...

[10:30 am, 12/07/2021] +Thomas: Is it possible to have the religious leaders to encourage their flock to go for vaccinations? Pastor of smaller churches encouraged their flock too

[10:37 am, 12/07/2021] +Alvin Lim: Paper cert

[10:37 am, 12/07/2021] +Alvin Lim: You will get it once second dose

[10:50 am, 12/07/2021] +jimmy chew: Are the numbers of seniors with complications and bed ridden included in the numbers? because I remembered going door to door for my precinct, those who don't are those whose doctors says not to take or they are bed ridden! I thought they have the data, how come PA going again?

[11:01 am, 12/07/2021] +Smiley face: HOW TO ENCOURAGE A HUMAN?

KEY:

Inclusiveness, Connecting and Role Model approach:

IDEA:

Get our 2nd Gen, 3rd Gen retired LEADERS from various levels from ex  MPs, ex MIN, and/or willing  SENIOR business leaders.

Cast of a group of 3-5 persons no more than two minutes video.

MEESAGE:

WE ARE WELL, ALIVE AND LIFES CONTINUE as normal.... "Vaccinate to Stay HEALTHY!"

EXCLUSION:

Avoid DEATH and SEVERITY as choices of words in the script. These two negative words only promote FEAR and UNCERTAINTY. Thus may leads to rejection and further confirmation of negativity towards the prevention protocol, this instance - Vaccination.

SUMMARY:

HEALTHY LIVING & PEACE OF MIND are two powerful words to soother our SENIORS, perhaps, the SURITY in this covid times!

[11:02 am, 12/07/2021] +Poh S. Lim: What is the percentage of vaccinated seniors? Are the balance due to outright refusal or poor follow-up,  or perhaps they are unable to take the vaccine due to medical reasons? Is there any data on this?

[11:05 am, 12/07/2021] +Timothy Low: From Zaobao. Reported last Thursday

[11:11 am, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

I and my siblings managed to persuade 1 elderly parent to fully vaccinate.

But we are not able to persuade our another elderly parent to vaccinate despite taking turns to persuade him.

He is worried that the vaccination will make him sick because he feel unwell and is taking long term medicine.

Government volunteer has visited him to persuade him to vaccinate but to no avail.

He say if anything happens to me, are you going to be responsible.

Now my only solution is, other than making vaccination "Mandatory" - there are no other way to make him vaccinte.

[11:11 am, 12/07/2021] +Ken: I am badly ill for 4 days 😥

[11:11 am, 12/07/2021] +Ken: So for some is a concern..

[11:14 am, 12/07/2021] +Ken: Cannot go overseas to travel is already a punishment… as well as many event required to be fully vaccinated to able to join.

But to them it out weighs the benefit of vaccinations. It is a reasonable excuse for them not taking.

[11:15 am, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

The elderly prefer to hole up at home and not to travel.

[11:16 am, 12/07/2021] +Ken: 🤷🏻‍♂️

I thought of it as well… one of my parent refuse to take as well.

History of heart attack plus the hearsay in coffee shops… rumors within the coffee shops are just scary for them

[11:18 am, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

But the long covid effect is even more damaging.

[11:18 am, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1 in 10 recovered Covid-19 patients in S'pore suffers persistent symptoms six months after infection: Study

SINGAPORE - One in 10 recovered Covid-19 patients had persistent symptoms six months after their initial infection, a study led by the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) has found.

[11:19 am, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

It damage the :-

1. Lungs

2. Heart

3. Brain

4. Blood vessels - and can cause blood clot.

[11:20 am, 12/07/2021] +Ken: Is a choice that they willing to take… imagine if you force then he fall ill 🤦🏻

Although chance is low… just have to see if majority manage to clear first haiz I am out of ideas to kick him to go take

[11:20 am, 12/07/2021] +REACH: Volunteers and doctors bring a human touch to S'pore's Covid-19 vaccination campaign

SINGAPORE - About 14,000 volunteers from the People's Association (PA) who, along with about 1,800 PA staff, have been trying since January to engage seniors on getting the vaccine.

[11:21 am, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Was this research on vaccinated or not vaccinated people ?

[11:22 am, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Sure, it's a bit like smoking. Smokers can make others ill though passive smoking, but they don't seem to worry too much about that

[11:23 am, 12/07/2021] +Ken: Haha I can’t even convince him to quit after a heart by pass 🤣

[11:23 am, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

I won't lose sleep over it, if I succeeded in making him vaccinate.

Because the moment our country declare endemic, it means people will go out to interact - and catching covid like common flu becomes a possibility.

Wonder anyone in their lives did not catch a common flu?

I guess 100% of people catch common flu and cold in their lifetime.

And this will be very detrimental to anyone who are not vaccinated especially the elderly.

That's why I very worried for my this elderly parent.

[11:23 am, 12/07/2021] +Ben: In the end unvaccinated people will need to have restrictions in order to protect the rest of society. Especially children who currently can't be vaccinated.

[11:24 am, 12/07/2021] +Ken: Actually 2 bypass 🙄

[11:24 am, 12/07/2021] +Ben: But he won't get a vaccination because of risk to health? I guess that is someone who likes to go against common sense when it comes to health.  Wants to be a rebel! Lol

[11:25 am, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

This is my strong justification to urge the government to make vaccination compulsory.

If not for the whole population but at least for the elderly.

Because elderly if catch covid - can be quite serious.

[11:25 am, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Better badly ill for 4 days than catching and spreading covid?

[11:26 am, 12/07/2021] +Ken: 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️ stubborn and those rumors within coffee shop really 🤦🏻

I always go buy from coffee shop then the shop attendant share why never take sinovac 😒 others might be bad did you hear someone died? 🤦🏻 this is a few times.. I pretty sure some getting to people

[11:26 am, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

🤷

[11:27 am, 12/07/2021] +Ben: I believe people should have the choice but accept the consequences they won't be allowed amongst the public until everyone who wants to be vaccinated is vaccinated, including kids.

[11:27 am, 12/07/2021] +Ben: In some countries that means losing your job.

[11:27 am, 12/07/2021] +Ken: Today is day 4.. not sure if affect me more days.. not all companies are so forgiving

[11:27 am, 12/07/2021] +Ken: I took on Friday… today take leave.. since I have many.. no need to queue to get Mc

[11:31 am, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

My close friend comments:-

(1) Elderly with no dependents living in rental flats.

- work with social workers. Send medical teams to vaccinate them.

(2) elderly who have regular appointments to monitor their sugar, blood, cholesterol at polyclinics. Direct them to vaccinate if they are well. Similarly, all specialist clinic doctors who serve elderly should btw advise them and counter staff to help make appointments.

(3) target education programs at senior citizens rc and cc activities. Taichi, calligraphy, singing classes etc. Education program should ensure the high safety level of mRNA vaccines, debunk myths. And consequences of getting infected. This should include self and affecting their loved ones having to quarantine themselves, or young children who cannot be vaccinated.

(4) for infected, same household members, close contacts etc, coax all the eligible to be vaccinated.

[11:32 am, 12/07/2021] +Samantha: pfizer or Sinovac?

[11:33 am, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Sinovac efficacy against Delta variants no good.

Unless someone is immunocompromised against mRNA - Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines will still be the preferred vaccines.

[11:37 am, 12/07/2021] +Ben: A friend had 3-4 days of fever but is OK and now fully vaccinated. Imagine how covid would have felt if the vaccine had that impact?

[11:40 am, 12/07/2021] +Thomas: Worse is all the fake news like being magnetic after injection. Going round viral in Malaysia whatsapp. Religious fake news about 666 end of the world or satan word domination etc from the religious spreading of fear and fake news. This is causing alot of hesitancy and rejection. I am not sure why people do this but for money ?

[11:48 am, 12/07/2021] +Poh S. Lim: 👍 sounds like pretty good suggestion

[0:33 pm, 12/07/2021] +Rama: Stoking fear using their own interpretation.

[1:38 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

10 doctors in Indonesia after fully vaccinated with Sinovac 2 jabs - die from Delta variants.

[1:58 pm, 12/07/2021] +Rama: 😱😨🤦‍♀️😟😔😞

[2:01 pm, 12/07/2021] +Fulgrim: Can share the source?

[2:03 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jun/28/indonesian-covid-deaths-add-to-questions-over-sinovac-vaccine

Indonesian-covid-12 doctor fully vaccinated Sinovac deaths-add-to-questions-over-sinovac-vaccine;

[2:05 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

So our NCID experts are correct.

Those few private doctors that want our school children to get Sinovac vaccination instead of mRNA vaccines are incorrect - that will jeopardise our school children.

[2:10 pm, 12/07/2021] +Fulgrim: BBC News - Covid: Children's extremely low risk confirmed by study

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-57766717

[2:12 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

So you suggest children don't vaccinate and face the risk of infection and long covid symptoms affecting the heart, brain, lung and blood vessels?

[2:13 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Btw, my child already fully vaccinated with mRNA vaccines.

My extended family members also getting their children to be vaccinated by mRNA.

[2:14 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ken: Need to know out of how many also 😥

if 10 out of 100 000

Or 10 out of 10 000 000

Makes a bit difference

[2:15 pm, 12/07/2021] +Fulgrim: I m showing u a report, u made the same conclusions on sinovac based on the guardian report

[2:15 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Ok no offense.

[2:18 pm, 12/07/2021] +Fulgrim: This study in the UK is quite comprehensive  but again so little is understood of the variants and even the long term effect of mRNA vaccines. Its hard to make an educated guess

[2:19 pm, 12/07/2021] +Fulgrim: Given that mRNA doesn't stay long in the body, how could it lead to those cases of heart Inflamation? The mechanism isn't well understood and I only worry what else effects it might have

[2:19 pm, 12/07/2021] +Fulgrim: As a concerned parent

[2:20 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

The long term effects is very clear for those infected - the long covid damage is very significant.

[2:20 pm, 12/07/2021] +Fulgrim: Given the parents have to make that decision and live withe Consequences,  this isn't easy

[2:20 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ken: I can only say Indonesia amount of people infected is much more than is reported 😅

I have business dealing there… so chattting with my suppliers. Even management 90% infected 2 hours away from Jakarta.

[2:21 pm, 12/07/2021] +Fulgrim: Yah. I have customers and business acquaintances that have actually died from covid there

[2:21 pm, 12/07/2021] +Fulgrim: The cases are very bad there

[2:21 pm, 12/07/2021] +Fulgrim: Also in Malaysia

[2:22 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

I jointly make the decision with my child.

Including my siblings families.

Our joint decision is that children taking the vaccines overweigh the risk of covid infection - and all to get mRNA jabs

[2:23 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

My private chat group in fact scramble to get the vaccines jab early to get their children vaccinated despite initial worry.

[2:24 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Now my only worry is - we can't get 1 of my elderly parent vaccinated.

[2:29 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

The reason why our community cases go down to single digit and in fact 2 days ago is zero - because other than lockdown, test, trace, ring-fence, we also vaccinate - and thus can curb this Delta variants wave so effectively.

But if we start to enter into endemic and open up further, people interact more often - vaccination is the only way to give everyone protection - including elderly and children.

Else Delta variants and other variants may again overwhelm us - if we don't get our loved ones whether elderly or our children vaccinate.

[2:34 pm, 12/07/2021] +Peter T Ng: Likewise

[2:36 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Only last resort - Mandatory Vaccination can help this unrelenting elderly.

Else I am at my wit end to get them vaccinated to protect themselves.

[2:58 pm, 12/07/2021] +REACH: Dining in for groups of 5 resumes, S'poreans welcome chance to eat with friends, family at the same table

SINGAPORE - Many welcomed the easing of restrictions after almost three weeks of being limited by a cap of two people per table at eateries. The cap lasted from June 21 to Sunday (July 11).

[4:07 pm, 12/07/2021] +REACH: As of 12 July 2021, 12pm, the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 8 new cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 infection. 5 are linked to previous cases, and have already been placed on quarantine. 3 are currently unlinked.

MOH will share further updates in its press release that will be issued later tonight.

[4:12 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Today community cases is 8 higher than few days ago.

But good thing is, it is single digit.

[4:41 pm, 12/07/2021] +Rama: Yes

[4:48 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Maybe they could transition to a weekly summary so we get over the daily need for numbers. .

[4:49 pm, 12/07/2021] +Caleb: 👍

[4:51 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

I felt that we can do this when we have reached the endemic stage.

But now our double jabs number are still below 50%.

We are still not out of the wood yet.

[4:52 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Only 39% double jabs

[4:54 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Else people will be lull into a sense of complacency - and trigger a big outbreak without knowing.

[4:56 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

The daily number keep everyone on the toe as we gradually open up in a calibrated and graduated manner.

The daily infection number is our report card to help the community determine are we doing well as we reopen.

[4:58 pm, 12/07/2021] +Caleb: When Temasek giving our surgical mask. Please help to educate how to wear a mask correctly. I still see ppl wear wrong side

[5:17 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Maybe they give numbers of vaccinated and non vaccinated people who test positive and how many go to hospital.

[5:17 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Really what matters now is not infection numbers but serious illness numbers

[5:18 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ben: We know vaccinated people can still get infected, we don't know the consequences of infection

[5:35 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Off-topic....not sure how bringing gambling into the home is a positive experience we really want to encourage??

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/public-feedback-sought-on-proposed-legalisation-of-in-person-gambling-in-spore-among

[5:37 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ken: Lol… better know gambling at home then outside… at least you know if they are addicted

[5:37 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ken: Some people discover gambling late in life end up hard to control

[5:37 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Yea perfect to pass on to the next generation  too!

[5:39 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ben: And I can imagine the arguments that come from suggesting someone is addicted. 🤦

[5:40 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ken: I discover I very bad at self control when very young(primary school) resultant in behavior I don’t like myself.. haha so I decided that I will not gamble other than socialize only.

If happen later in life I think the story will be very different

[5:40 pm, 12/07/2021] +CQ: and really, amongst family and friends, it's more about the company than the money (you have much bigger problems if it's the other way around). that's why people play 10-20 cents. it's lazy law-making to have a law which is so broad to encompass everything, only to have "selective enforcement" when it comes to kachang putih bets like this.

[5:40 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ken: It is something you will expose in life… no way to run away from

[5:41 pm, 12/07/2021] +CQ: so i don't see it as a problem, it's just the law being changed to reflect what's already happening in reality

[5:41 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ken: Even in gamble loot box is a form of gambling

[5:41 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ken: In game loot box”

[5:41 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Back to the Sinovac debate....

https://thethaiger.com/coronavirus/pressure-mounts-for-effective-boosters-as-fully-vaccinated-nurse-dies-of-covid-19

[5:42 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ken: Lol

[5:42 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Good for you.  Impressive self realisation and control. An example to many!

[5:43 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Ok, seems reasonable.  I don't have much knowledge in this!

[5:43 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ken: Haha was very proud of the behavior… so decide to stay far away from it.

[5:47 pm, 12/07/2021] +Caleb: We got many unique  foreigners

[5:56 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Well my take is:-

Probably the hospital number is respectable.

But the infection is spreading quickly and stealthily.

Then suddenly, the hospitalisation soar.

This is exactly what we see now in Malaysia, Indonesia.

[5:58 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

We can do this during endemic when 80% are vaccinated.

If we do it now, those unvaccinated and 1 dose make up 61% - the risk is too great.

[5:59 pm, 12/07/2021] +Rama: Our travel corridor with Hong Kong might be cancelled or postponed after their government heard ours will treat the virus as an endemic!?

[6:08 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Yes HK is concern about 3 issues:-

a. We intend to roll out endemic plan. HK plan is zero covid.

They afraid we will infect them.

b. HK vaccination rate ss very low as their population distrust vaccines due to political reasons.

c. We did not fully endorse Sinovac because of the efficacy.

So there will still be negotiation going on to see whether there will be breakthrough.

Now if we adopt endemic behaviour - when majority of our population are not vaccinated - we are seeding trouble ahead - if Delta variants are allowed to spread stealthily among the unvaccinated and the 1 dose people.

[6:12 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Because suddenly we will see a spike in hospitalisation rate because we didn't track the number.

This is suicidal.

India, Indonesia, Malaysia make this fatal mistake by allowing mass events, religious events, election etc - thinking they are in endemic and a massive outbreak occur with a big spike in hospitalisation.

Now they are too late to salvage the situation already.

Do we want to be like them when we are not ready and undo everything we achieve now?

[6:14 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

This will become reckless reopening - and not cautious, calibrated reopening - that we are adopting now.

[6:16 pm, 12/07/2021] +Caleb: Many already gathering at NDP to see fireworks...

[6:17 pm, 12/07/2021] +Caleb: Rem what MOH says for bukit merah outbreak. Ppl Q Up to 30 mins to buy food ...

[6:17 pm, 12/07/2021] +Caleb: Actu at the float, no need fireworks la. The spectators already get to watch live show. Good enough

[6:17 pm, 12/07/2021] +Rama: Agree

[6:20 pm, 12/07/2021] +Rama: That is why we cannot fear expats leaving Singapore because of our strict mask wearing,  social Distancing and vaccination.  They say they are not treated reasonably well for their contribution to our growth so looking at alternative financial hubs.

[6:27 pm, 12/07/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

This will be separate matter to be dealt with separately.

We should not let a few derail our endemic plan - and prematurely and reckless do something that will endanger our people.

If we want to see good examples - just need to look at India, Malaysia and Indonesia.

We plan and mitigate any rough edges as we go along.

But we should not let wayward noise derail our plan to carefully and steadily move forward.

US, UK, Israel and EU sounding alarm at Delta variants hitting their shores - as they recklessly declare endemic.

Now they gadang gabok - want to roll back.

Do we want to do this in Singapore?

Note:-

None of these countries achieve 80% herd immunity among their population - but declare themselves endemic, freedom Day, independence day.

Now they gadang gabok - want to roll back.

So math and science is vital important in how we defeat covid vis-a-vis reopening our economy.

Don't move based on gut feeling, or gung-ho feeling.

Covid will hit us when we lower our guard - and give us a knock out blow.

India, Indonesia and Malaysia got the knockout blow.

The western countries now Kenna hammer badly.

We still can hold our own and hit back steadily. But don't be over our hrad and later kenna knockout.

[6:55 pm, 12/07/2021] +Ben: Don't rely on sound-bites either... "freedom day" ....
