If Brunei then Singapore would have sent Apaches & Leopards.

Nope. i can forsee if a Singapore military vech or troop kill a muslim insurgent or accidentally killing a hostage, it will bring about a lot of diplomatic issues to resolve. its best to let the own country's troops take care of the issue. while Singapore provide back stage support in form of medical and logistics.

US previously has committed a large contingent of troop to fight terrorism eg. in Afghan and now still stuck there.

In Iraq, US under Obama Administration provide the pivotal support while the local troop fight the ISIS terrorists - now the Iraq troops with the backend coalition almost win the war.

This the military strategy that have defeated ISIS in Iraq :-

Make no mistake, ISIS daesh must be completely defeated and pay for their crimes - for committing extreme atrocities.

International cooperation and determination is key to defeat ISIS daesh.

In addition to military pressure, cutting the supply lines of ISIS daesh - eg. finance, oil revenue, manpower, internet, communication, food, water, logistics, ammo, weapons, medicine etc ----- will be the fastest way to defeat ISIS daesh, force unconditional surrender and arrest them if possible and put them on international trial for war crimes and meted out punishment as per their crime.

ricky lricky l1 second ago
If international forces can successfully cut off the supply lines of ISIS daesh - . finance, oil revenue, manpower, internet, communication, food, water, logistics, ammo, weapons, medicine etc - there will be very little collateral damages and casualties.

For eg. ISIS daesh has :-
(1) no food, no water - cannot survive for long - and will surrender.
(2) no ammo, no bullets, no bombs, no weapons - and will surrender.
(3) no cash, no oil revenue - to pay their militants, to buy weapons, ammo, food, water, logistics, medicine - how to fight?

No supply - the only way is to surrender.

Thus no casualties imposed on international troops, civilians will not be hurt by firefight and bombs - and the ISIS daesh can be arrested, let them face trial and let them discover their mistakes, repent and those who committed atrocities shall be punished according to the international law of war crimes.

Isn't this the smarter way, surgical way of defeating ISIS daesh?

no need to carpet bomb, nuclear bomb, deploy huge foreign army troops etc --- waste resource, damage infrastructure, kill civilians and innocents - and don't achieve result as well as surgical smarter way of defeating ISIS daesh.

This is a divine way to defeat ISIS daesh.

SimonSimon5 hours ago
If atomic bombs can be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end WWll, there is absolutely no reason why hydrogen bombs cannot be dropped on ISIS territories to wipe out this Islamic scourge. And yes, some innocents may die but that is always the short-term price to pay rather than to allow this perpetual sufferings to continue.

ricky lricky l1 second ago
Just be careful about dispensing nuclear bombs - when there are smarter, more surgical ways of defeating ISIS daesh.

Nuclear bombs produce after effects of radiation - and can contaminate the whole Middle East. Not some innocents but many innocents will succumb to the bombs and its after effect radiation.

In addition, if once used, it will trigger alarm worldwide, and it can trigger "first used" policy rather than "last used or don't used policy - only as a deterrent".

Once a nuclear bomb is used - it means the Earth is heading for extinction - because no one will trust one another - and will be determine to "first used" it with any sign of conflict ---- and mankind will be wipe out.

ricky lricky l1 second ago
No one should be talking about liberal used of nuclear weapons - unless one is prepared to risk the extinction of human mankind.

The political cost will be very severe.

ricky lricky l1 second ago
Mr LKY once said - because many Countries possess nuclear weapons - the World faces less risk of a World War 3 - because the consequences of 1st dispensing of nuclear weapons means human extinction.

No Countries will risk the political backlash of dispensing nuclear weapons in this modern era.

SOF (Special Operation Forces) moving in groups will be more effective to target :-

(1) ISIS daseh troop concentration - will be the best surgical strike - as fighter bomber and drone strike can be called upon to neutralise the troop. No need to deploy large foreign troops - to do troop-to-troop fighting - that will result in big casaulties on both sides. Airstrike will be more effective to take out the ISIS daseh troop concentration.

Thus ISIS daesh will not dare to amass large troop like it did previously to lauch major offensive to capture more lands. They can only move in smaller group - where local forces can take them on easily and defeat them.

(2) ISIS daesh will also not be able to deploy seized mechanized vehicles, tanks etc - to be used against SOF or local forces - because they are highly visible and airstrike can easily detect the mobile assets and take them out.

(Thus, no need to deploy large ground foregin forces - and still can do surgical strike that produce outcome - this is the smartest way to defeat ISIS daesh) - complemented by cutting the supplies to ISIS daesh.

(Skin chicken - no need to use bull butcher knife).

Moreover, local forces will be more highly motivated to fight the ISIS daesh - as their land, their homes, their dependants, their futures are at stake - and will be determined to defeat ISIS daseh devil - so that they can have a better future.

Large foreign forces - will be seen as invasion into their country - and local forces and local people - will be less helpful. Also large casaulties will be incurred in the battle.

If the good guys lose the fight, it will be bad for Singapore and the nearby countries if the extremists spread their ideals cross to Indonesia or East Malaysia and eventually to here. giving the "good guys" training is just a way to help them win the fight. while not directly engaging in the harm's way ourselves. Also in the Bigger picture, if we train the soldiers there to be better, then they can also prevent such incidents or terrorists incidents from happening in future, which will also benefit in keeping the "peace" of the region. as to "how big can they get" i think its not good to underestimate how a "small" group of extremist can grow if left unchecked. Lastly the offer to Help also strengthens the 2 countries ties and also may foster future co-operation not only in defence but also other areas.

It will never be a winning battle. Containing it ? They are shadows, light army , can never have tanks and missiles. Problem ? They cant even drive them. They are spot militants , not in great numbers, lack logistics. Pound them , they run like dogs. Spread what in sg, if can smuggle a couple of rifles and bombs , its bonus to them. These are the guys sg should tackle.
Our uniform people are soft. Little india riot already proved it. Do you think our guys got the guts to shoot the drug injected fruggers ? Probably take cover first.

"Our uniform people are soft. Little india riot already proved it. "

You mean when the riot police come with proper gear, it did not quell the riot?
You prefer police arm with pistols shoot down the rioters?

They already admitted lapses , dont know what to do. Not about shooting , its about preventing riot from escalating. When crowd see you soft , you are finished.

Augustine Teo - By helping Philippines in stopping terrorists is not going soft.
In fact it is proactive to prevent ISIS caliphate from taking roots in SE Asia.

And in case if you are not aware, Singapore has a contingent in Middle East providing gadgets to collect intelligence as part of the coalition force stopping the ISIS caliphate.

So cannot imagine that our uniform groups are soft?

And in case if you have no memory of how our commandos SOF (Special Operation Force) successfully stormed the SIA plane and rescue all the hostages without casaulties from the terrorists - our uniform groups are not soft.

You quoted mideast and us, thats complicated stuff. I dont if you can agree with me on 2 terms : WARFARE & TERRORISM
In philippines , marawi or sulu or whereever, it is warfare . Terrorism is a pipeline excuse. Sg no warfare, terrorism is our concern. You go in philippines , you are no difference from the west fighting in afghan. Will it end after you and I perish ? Dont go help fight people's warfare. Thats my point. Local Iintelligence is vital. Locate and break wouldbe terrorist cell is what this mother hen should be doing. Do our work at home , not outside.

Don't fighting in Marawi are local warfare.
They are ISIS militants - many foreigners (one is even Singaporeans), some are Indonesians, some are Malaysians, others are hardened battle miitants that have fought in Iraq and Syria.

Once they are entrenched in Marawi - they become a SE Asia caliphate, like Syria and Iraq - they will have a base to launch regional attacks - like launching attack in Europe.

UAV intelligence collection will help to pinpoint the movement of these ISIS militants - so that they cannot cross the sea and infiltrate into East Malaysia or Indonesia --- which will almost come to our doorsteps.

Providing them our training areas will sharpen the Philippines troops in better fighting the ISIS militants - to achieve better result in defeating the ISIS militants.

And providing humanitarian aids to the Philippines civilians - will help to win over the heart and mind of locals to resist the ISIS militants and prevent them from taking roots.

Bear in mind that both Malaysians and Indonesians are already providing naval force to block the ISIS militants from coming down the sea from Marawi - while Singapore are providing our coordination command and control centre.

With UAV, training ground and humanitarian aids - will complement the efforts.

Their local militants fight locally and don't bother others.

But those ISIS militants fight locally with the aim of fighting others in the region and the World - as far as US and Europe, Mid-East, Africa, China, Russia, India, Pakistan, almost every where.

There are ISIS cells in Indonesia.
There are ISIS cells in Malaysia.

Their strategy is to establish a HQ in Philippines Marawi - and if they succeeded, they will activate the ISIS cells in Indonesia and Malaysia to do synchronize strike.

And Singapore will be surrounded - if we still 'tidak apa" as you suggest.

Danger coming to the doorstep - still don't know.

Some people still poke here poke there with social media - talking about abuse this abuse that.

In Syria, everyone already witness how fast they move and cut across a vast stretch of Iraq all the way to Mosul - when Iraq troop let the guards down.

And how many soldiers and civilians were executed, beheaded in the most brutal way.
If we let down the guard, we will be in trouble.

In fact, the amassing of about 500 ISIS militants in Marawi demonstrate how fast they infiltrate and organized themselves into a battalion force - and able to launch military conventional war with the Philippine conventional troop even though with firepower less superior than the conventional army and without armor and air support.

So if everyone in the region still "dilly dally" and "wishy washy" - one day everyone will wake up to discover how fast this ISIS militants strike.

SG always looking for trouble. First, offended China. Now, offending Isis.
Ricky Lim ·
Many Countries don't offend ISIS - but they still hit them.

eg. Indonesia got attack in Jakarta.
Malaysia got grenade attack.
Many Africa Countries and Middle East countries got attack.
Many EU Countries got attack.
Afghan, Pakistan, India, China, Russia etc also got attack.

You mean lie low, put the heads in the sand - ISIS will not bother you meh?

Even Singapore also got some radicalised ISIS sprouting up.

Once they got a foothold in Marawi, cells in Indonesia and Malaysia will synchronize strike.
And Singapore will be surrounded.

When that happen how? You are surrounded from 3 sides.
