[0:30 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Singapore's national Covid-19 vaccination programme kicked off yesterday, with the first Pfizer-BioNTech jabs being administered to 40 healthcare workers at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).

This marks an important milestone in the Republic's fight against Covid-19, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong told reporters, noting that vaccination could help accelerate the resumption of economic as well as other community activities and pave the way for the reopening of more borders.

Minister Gan also mentioned that having a population that is extensively inoculated would help the country guard against new waves of infections.

📢 Topic 📢

💬 What do you think of the roll-out of the vaccine as a new chapter in our fight against the pandemic?

[0:32 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I'm thinking I should get myself vaccinated to protect my elderly parents.... And allow our economy to open up so jobs are more secured

Ben

[0:44 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Roll out of vaccine clearly key to rebuilding. I'd like to know which vaccine is being administered to which group and why. I'd like to know the different groupings and approximate timescales, and why.

Nats

[0:46 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Meanwhile from a PT POV,

https://www.newsweek.com/people-who-forgo-covid-vaccine-could-limited-using-public-transportation-france-1556744

I believe our gahmen won't do something like this but just sharing anyway

Rama

[0:50 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I agree on this

Nats

[0:52 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I'm happy to hear about this, we've been fighting for this since maybe 1 or 2 years ago?

Caleb

[0:53 pm, 04/01/2021] +: 👍

Phyllis

[0:54 pm, 04/01/2021] +: About time!

Ken

[0:55 pm, 04/01/2021] +: 👍

[0:57 pm, 04/01/2021] +: For me I will wait, want to observe awhile more.

Anyway even if vaccinated don’t mean that we can travel anytime soon. Likely need another year till we can travel with restrictions.

[1:08 pm, 04/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

My close friend contribution:-

http://on.theatln.tc/m0hqt0x?fbclid=IwAR12vpo6RMZbQONgMay5pFvHiuhNDaSba8a5SRyG-phAtG2Kb-IugjQsrqw

The pace of vaccination needs to speed up to control the spread and further mutations.

[1:09 pm, 04/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Yes. We need to get vaccinated fast to prevent the spread.

Also medical scientists need to verify whether their vaccines against the new strain effective or not - the results still not out yet.

[1:09 pm, 04/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

10 UK strain found in Seoul - CNA news just reported.

The new strain really can spread like wildfire.

[1:22 pm, 04/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Millions around the World get vaccinated already - whether through Pfizer-Biontech, Moderna, Sinopharm, Sinovac, Spuntik, and many others.

2. There are no reported death link to the vaccination.

3. There are few with serious side effect - that trigger allergy - but anti-allergy treatment can bring it under control - need 30 minutes to observe people who get vaccinated to see whether people got serious side effect.

4. Many got less serious side effects - similar to other vaccinations - that will go off within few hours or few days.

5. After getting the 1st shot - a few days later, people still can get contracted with covid - because anti-bodies has still not build up to protect against covid. It needs at least 14 days to get the anti-bodies. Also the 1st shot only give 50% protection. People need the 2nd dose after 21 days - to get more than 90% protection - and again need 14 days later to develop anti-bodies.

In short, after 2 dose of injection - a total 2 months will be needed to get full protection.

6. The upsides of getting ourselves vaccinated :-

a. We can get ourselves protected from covid.

b. Economy can open up - when majority of the people get vaccinated.

c. We can start opening our borders for trade, travel, business, MICE, toursim etc - if our population get vaccinated.

d. We can begin our pre-covid normal lives.

e. We can protect ourselves the more contagious UK B117 strain and the SAfrica strain that are quickly spreading.

f. The downsides risk of getting vaccinated versus the upside of getting the vaccines - is minimal.

En

[1:24 pm, 04/01/2021] +: sad, no more KL-SG high speed rail... but am hopeful that the Jurong area development plans will still continue 🤞🏻

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/kl-singapore-hsr-high-speed-rail-discontinued-13799618

Nats

[1:25 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Malaysia super good at flip flop policy one, anyways Jurong as 2nd CBD will survive even without HSR

HSR isn't a need, it's more like an added bonus, that is gone now anyway

[1:27 pm, 04/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Singapore and KL Air routes is the busiest in the world - without HSR we can keep our air hub vibrant.

2. Our tour bus between Singapore to KL, Malacca, Penang, Genting, Penang, Cameroon etc can continue to operate.

3. HSR is a multiple billions investment - don't know can recoup the investment or not.

Must as well invest elsewhere that makes us more competitive.

[1:29 pm, 04/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

4. RTS is a light rail that transport JB workers to Singapore and Singaporeans can go up to JB to shop. Good enough.

5. There are currently KTM rail that go up to KL - no need redundancy that cost multiple billions.

Boon

[1:34 pm, 04/01/2021] +: 👍

Caleb

[1:34 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Will we still have a plan B, Incase the HSR is being revive in the future?

[1:35 pm, 04/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

If HSR link to KL airport instead of KL capital - overseas travellers may disembark from KL airport and hop on to HSR to come Singapore instead of taking SIA to land in Changi airport - and we lose earnings from our busiest air routes that cripple our SIA and Changi airport.

Who win?

HSR which is mainly not own by us.

We waste billion of dollars to build our HSR station and make us lose billion of earning in air fare and air hub.

[1:37 pm, 04/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Bare in mind, HSR need 2 hours to arrive here including security clearance.

Airport need 4 hours for clearance.

So travellers will take HSR or air flight?

Also air flight more expensive than HSR?

KS Foong

[1:41 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Both side need to win something. Bottomline is, we should not spend money to hurt ourselves!

Ben

[1:53 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Virus expected to take years to mutate significantly enough to affect the vaccine success

maybellrejoice1

[1:54 pm, 04/01/2021] +: https://youtu.be/oyhabUI5tD8

Boon

[2:50 pm, 04/01/2021] +: As a context, the vid report is (narrowly) based on 4 elderly persons (one was 85, another was 91) with preexisting conditions. Two of the involved countries’ health authorities opined that the deaths were not linked to the vaccine. So, while it is good for awareness and for our aged parents, there isn’t enough info to generalize.

Caleb

[2:55 pm, 04/01/2021] +: U hope we can choose which type of vaccine do we want. When the other 1 or 2 have been approved by HSA.

[2:55 pm, 04/01/2021] +: *I

Ken

[2:56 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Cannot choose... cause if not there will be shortage already stated

Ben

[2:57 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Would it then be a choice to wait until that vaccination is available (or pay to choose?)

Ken

[2:58 pm, 04/01/2021] +: The whole world is very short... you want to pay also cannot choose. Unless private lor.. don’t know if they are given how many 🤷🏻‍♂️

[2:59 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Do note that kids below 16 cannot take cause still no data on them.

Also pregnant woman as breast feeding Mum

Ben

[3:01 pm, 04/01/2021] +: https://www.bmj.com/content/371/bmj.m4857 'Will the vaccine still work?

The new variant has mutations to the spike protein that the three leading vaccines are targeting. However, vaccines produce antibodies against many regions in the spike protein, so it’s unlikely that a single change would make the vaccine less effective.

Over time, as more mutations occur, the vaccine may need to be altered. This happens with seasonal flu, which mutates every year, and the vaccine is adjusted accordingly. The SARS-CoV-2 virus doesn’t mutate as quickly as the flu virus, and the vaccines that have so far proved effective in trials are types that can easily be tweaked if necessary."

[3:02 pm, 04/01/2021] +: The danger is that people will not take the vaccination if their preference is not available. More needs to be done to educate us on the differences, and results of the testing.

Caleb

[3:03 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I guess so far all other countries only roll out 1 type of vaccine. Don't have multiple types yet

[3:04 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Well, maybe it's a low numbers of ppl will want to choose

[3:04 pm, 04/01/2021] +: So let this grp, take a later date.

Ken

[3:05 pm, 04/01/2021] +: It is still very new, confidence is low. If not when do you see world leaders take turns to show the public it is safe?

[3:06 pm, 04/01/2021] +: When was the last time you see that?

Caleb

[3:09 pm, 04/01/2021] +: The audio not very good.

Abit cracking.

[3:09 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Biden lor

Ken

[3:10 pm, 04/01/2021] +: This is actually preparing for the disease x in future in case of a more deathly one that comes in the future this is a model that we can follow.

At such low death rate we can’t totally get people to cooperate and wear mask🤷🏻‍♂️

Lucky the public panic has die down due to government intervention 👍

But the threat is still real. Gobal supply is threaten.

Ken

[3:10 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Before covid” and such event happen before?

Caleb

[3:11 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Now surgical mask is over supply, under demand. 🤣

Ken

[3:11 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Cause it is not deadly hence people just wear to reduce risk or fines” 🤷🏻‍♂️

[3:12 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Not wear to ensure we all are safe

[3:12 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Not bad have 3k watching

Caleb

[3:12 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I watching

[3:15 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Can allow us to scribe back (rewind) too?

[3:20 pm, 04/01/2021] +: For vaccination plan, once 40 and above can take. Can jab those with higher risk because of their job like Marine sector, cleaners etc.

Before opening up to the 12 to 39 years old age group.

Fulgrim

[3:20 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Happy new years guys!!!

Caleb

[3:20 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Just throwing a question

Fulgrim

[3:21 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Great to see parliament sessions are now livestreamed :)

Nats

[3:21 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Yes, it is such a breakthrough - we will see how different interpretations are across MSM outlets and ordinary citizens like you and I

Fulgrim

[3:21 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I just read today that we are also bringing in the Oxford astra zeneca vaccine and also the ones from sinovac

[3:22 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I read that the sinovac one has lower effectiveness so how do they decide how and where to deploy the different make of vaccines

Ben

[3:23 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Yes, these are the questions we will be asking.

Don't think wear perpetually is a good idea.

One day we need to get vaccinated and dispense with wearing masks.

This is our normal lives, not wearing masks until our end of lives.

Fulgrim

[4:16 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I think makes more sense to ensure the vaccines are safe in the first place lah. Prevention is better than cure

[4:17 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Just a suggestion but since our ministers will be getting the vaccine

[4:17 pm, 04/01/2021] +: They should show themselves taking the sinovac one to assure everyone it is safe

[4:17 pm, 04/01/2021] +: If they take the pfizer or Modena one I think pple won't dare to take the Chinese vaccine

Ken

[4:18 pm, 04/01/2021] +: No such thing as 100% safe vaccine 😅

Sure there is like 1 in a million chance that someone fall sick from it. Just hope that not happen on someone important if not the whole vaccine sure come to a stop

Fulgrim

[4:18 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Yah of course no 100%

Nats

[4:18 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Still it isn't bad to have a backup plan as such

Fulgrim

[4:18 pm, 04/01/2021] +: But this is more of public assurance

[4:18 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Since they said they would take the vaccine first to assure the public

[4:18 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Do it with the China one

[4:19 pm, 04/01/2021] +: As most pple will have that concern

[4:19 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Of course lah but better to avoid if possible mah. Can also save taxpayer money :)

Nats

[4:20 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Sadly there's no way to so-called avoid unless we want to wait 5 years, if it isn't that safe, some people will have to suffer so the rest don't have to

Ken

[4:33 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Lol you believe 🤣

Caleb

[4:34 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Police can always ask for data bah

[4:34 pm, 04/01/2021] +: CCTVs etc

Alvin

[4:34 pm, 04/01/2021] +: This may let ppl think there is a little low of confidence in the vaccine

Berny

[4:34 pm, 04/01/2021] +: They could, and nobody can deny them those info

CQ

[4:34 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Don't care whether believe or not. If the initial message given to "entice" the TT take up was such, then you stick with it. It's just not cool that you bait and switch like that

Caleb

[4:35 pm, 04/01/2021] +: they can ask data from facebook etc

[4:35 pm, 04/01/2021] +: depends if those companies will give anot

Jonathan Lam

[5:12 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I feel it is more convenient

[5:12 pm, 04/01/2021] +: With trace together token

Caleb

Jonathan Lam

[5:13 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Yup

[5:13 pm, 04/01/2021] +: But I think still have to use safe entry as some places do not have the machine or ppl to scan the token

Caleb

[5:14 pm, 04/01/2021] +: but I felt penalize with the token.  as some places make it inconvenient to scan the token

Jonathan Lam

[5:14 pm, 04/01/2021] +: It's like a mix of both

Caleb

[5:14 pm, 04/01/2021] +: and cant scan out

Jonathan Lam

[5:14 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Yup agree

Caleb

[5:14 pm, 04/01/2021] +: like Popular bookstore in shopping mall, ask u go cashier to scan the token

[5:14 pm, 04/01/2021] +: MBS F&B have already started ToS

Jonathan Lam

[5:15 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Depends on the place I think

Nats

[5:15 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Implementation is currently a disaster and will be an even bigger disaster if the supply (acceptance of token) doesn't exceed the demand (the number of tokens)

Caleb

[5:15 pm, 04/01/2021] +: our Gov very slow lei, got Nov and Dec to do

[5:15 pm, 04/01/2021] +: but now they start educating the shop and building owners

[5:18 pm, 04/01/2021] +: the token and the QR code is so small, so harder to scan

[5:18 pm, 04/01/2021] +: not sure if GovTech going to sell the BT reader where can scan the BT

Eunice Chia

[5:18 pm, 04/01/2021] +: ST headline is a bit misleading....and the MP's question is a little pre-mature, there is only one type approved currently.

"Anyway, in the immediate term, only the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has been approved for use," Mr Gan said. "So there is no choice."

Caleb

[5:23 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Mr Louis Chua (Sengkang GRC) asked if individuals will be allowed to choose which vaccine they wish to take, when more than one has been approved for use.

[5:25 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Minister say cannot choose woah. :(

jimmy chew

[5:41 pm, 04/01/2021] +: annual flu jab as 1 in a million can get neuro deficiency problem, my sisters takes it every year, but I don't want to be that 1 in a million person haha

An fan

[5:43 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Why can not choose? Just like BTO, choose to order vaccines.

Caleb

[5:43 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I think already order for everyone liao

[5:43 pm, 04/01/2021] +: 🙊

jimmmy chew

[5:44 pm, 04/01/2021] +: like your medishield

[5:44 pm, 04/01/2021] +: fair and square

Caleb

[5:44 pm, 04/01/2021] +: if not later got excess on 1, then the popular one not enough

An fan

[5:44 pm, 04/01/2021] +: No political pressure for Ministers, just say it is people’s choices

Phyllis

[5:45 pm, 04/01/2021] +: If given a choice, which vaccine would you choose?

An fan

[5:46 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I choose the one with most detailed information, highest successful rate

Caleb

[5:47 pm, 04/01/2021] +: China one, cause is a proven technology.

Some elderly also prefer that... as what MP have just raised.

SL

[5:48 pm, 04/01/2021] +: No scientific test indicator that the existing vaccine is not working on B117 and n501.Y variant.

Nats

[5:48 pm, 04/01/2021] +: But it's the stigma we have surrounding China luh, is the same as the data privacy stigma lol

Caleb

[5:48 pm, 04/01/2021] +: so another camp, will not want China one

[5:48 pm, 04/01/2021] +: so ya

[5:48 pm, 04/01/2021] +: some want China one

An fan

[5:50 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Let people Choose vaccines brand first then make order. Whoever just get what they want. Those do not want yet wait for next batches. Anyway there is not enough for everyone.

[5:51 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Anyway all vaccines must be approved first

SL

[5:51 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Currently only pfizer got the interim authorization for pandemic supply from Singapore Health Sciences Authority (HSA) in December 2020, the rest of vaccine candidate is still under go evaluation by scientist i think.

jimmy chew

[5:53 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Agree, let them choose, then efficacy will be higher

Caleb

[5:53 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I guess some will just choose between mRNA or the traditional vaccines

[5:54 pm, 04/01/2021] +: regardless of brand

Nats

[5:54 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Is there a survey (whether government-sponsored or otherwise) to understand possible options by people?

Caleb

[5:56 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Think the main issue, is got not much brands to choose from.

[5:56 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Once more vaccines are approved by authorities, it means all are safe. Then let people choose. Then order

[5:57 pm, 04/01/2021] +: 3 or 4 choices are the most. Do not make people confused

Caleb

[5:57 pm, 04/01/2021] +: ya

[5:58 pm, 04/01/2021] +: if not become like that CareShield ...

[5:58 pm, 04/01/2021] +: by then, alot of counties will start ordering

[5:58 pm, 04/01/2021] +: and will have issue getting it quickly

SL

[5:59 pm, 04/01/2021] +: The mechanism letting ppl choose before ordering might take a very long process. By the time it done, we might be not able to get vaccine from manufacturer ontime as other country might ordered large quantity ahead of us.

[6:00 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Vaccine is a hot product on all goverment procurement system and there are so little suppliers now @ global market.

[6:02 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Comparing to other countries our government did a very good job and we do not need the vaccines urgently

[6:04 pm, 04/01/2021] +: Let other countries have first, we wait and see, 3 months or 6 months, not bad right?

Caleb

[6:04 pm, 04/01/2021] +: anyway I think we can buy first and keep for sometime right?

SL

[6:04 pm, 04/01/2021] +: our govt react very fast and considered all important factors before approving the use of vaccine.

Caleb

[6:04 pm, 04/01/2021] +: stokepille, in case of emegency

[6:26 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I think this “choice” idea touches on a key question - where can we/the vaccine consumers get relatively unbiased and objective information on the vaccine, the potential side effects and how to recognize them? Mr Google, sponsored ads, Ms Wikipedia, “my friends” or forwarded WhatsApp messages should not be the sources that we depend on for such important info to educate ourselves and to be more informed.

[6:27 pm, 04/01/2021] +: You forgot "my close friend" 😂

SL

[6:36 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I got the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine info from WHO website via google.

This report was prepared by the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on Immunization Working Group on COVID-19 vaccines. I believed what it said is fact.

Maybe we can use the WHO reports as reading material.

[6:39 pm, 04/01/2021] +: I think as long as the information fact published on website can be cross examinated, it can be rely upon to an acceptable degree.
