[0:45 pm, 27/01/2021] +: 📢 Topic 📢

Each of the 24 towns here will have one community vaccination centre by end-March capable of delivering 2,000 vaccinations a day, as Singapore ramps up its Covid-19 vaccination drive.

This will ensure that when more vaccines arrive, they can be quickly distributed to the population, in particular the elderly, explained Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing on Tuesday (Jan 26).

💬 How do we encourage the seniors and the community to get vaccinated?

It could be four or five years before the world sees the end of the Covid-19 pandemic and the start of a post-pandemic normal, said Education Minister and co-chair of Singapore's Covid-19 multi-ministry task force Lawrence Wong in a speech at the Institute of Policy Studies' Singapore Perspectives Conference on Monday (Jan 25).

He mentioned that while the availability of Covid-19 vaccines will progressively restart global travel, getting the world vaccinated will not be quick or easy.

Israel's early Covid-19 vaccine data offers hope

[0:54 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Encourage senior people to register and let doctors check.

2. If suitable for vaccination, encourage senior people to get vaccinated.

3. This is the only way to protect themselves and their family members from covid.

4. Only when majority of the population get vaccinated, can herd immunity be reached and emerge from the pandemic.

[1:14 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Moderna vaccines effective against the new strains.

A booster shot is being tested as insurance.

Else 2 shots sufficient for the new strains - UK, SAfrica and even Brazil strains.

Berny

[1:31 pm, 27/01/2021] +: I know it is hard, but at times like this, the only way to encourage seniors and community is through outreach from hospital, then assert peer pressures from the senior's friend

[1:31 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Or this

[1:32 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Another way to encourage is to go through employers, to encourage their staffs to be jabbed, especially for sensitive nature

[1:32 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Eg. Military camps

[2:12 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Just like SGSecure? Lol

Nats

[2:14 pm, 27/01/2021] +: What's the comparison ah

Even SGSecure also mati liao because COVID scarier than terrorism apparently

Kevin

[2:24 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Mata also need to be jabbed

Berny

[2:29 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Jab your pigu

[2:30 pm, 27/01/2021] +: But on a more serious note, those with higher risk should get jabbed by default

[2:31 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Eg. Higher exposure group, police, construction, marine, airline, etc

Boon

[2:35 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Dear REACH, I would like to approach your question this way - given all the instant experts and WhatApp opinions on  the various vaccines, what are the govt FAQs and explanation provided to seniors to raise their awareness that some conditions after the vaccine are "normal" eg/ raised temperature, and what are not normal. Is such info available in main dialect groups and in our 4 national languages? Such trusted source info is needed, and can help to manage their families and their own concerns, away from hearsays. Would the doctors/nurses who are administering the injections have the time to briefly explain to them? For those seniors who are staying by themselves, or those estates with a high % of seniors that the govt would know, are there plans by RCs, Community Centres, Peoples Association or other bodies to visit them after their jabs to see how they are? If so, can such plans to give attention  to seniors (after their jab) be publicised, which can further give seniors, and the community, comfort and confidence in getting vaccinated. These steps would also be part of strengthening our community spirit - and to emerge stronger together from this Covid situation.

[2:35 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Dear REACH, it would be great if you have any such news to share with the rest of us. Thank you.

[2:43 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Let the society and govt also focus on human care and grassroot concerns, in addition to efficiency, numbers and logistics.

XaniceAfcai

[2:56 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Fireman and teacher also need to be jab

Fulgrim

[3:04 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Minded force all the NSman to download or else sign extra and confinement

[3:05 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. When more people get vaccinated, there will be less hosts for covid to infect, and less hosts to jump.

2. With less hosts to jump, virus cannot infect, and less chance for it to mutate.

3. And covid as a result, dies a natural death.

4. The world is seeing such phenomenon happening in Israel as more people get vaccinated.

Fulgrim

[3:05 pm, 27/01/2021] +: The similarity is nsman have no choice

[3:05 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Lol

Nats

[3:06 pm, 27/01/2021] +: But if you uninstall SGSecure you won't kena charged or anything ma 😂

REACH

[3:27 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Take precautions at CNY, says PM Lee, who'll celebrate 'with 8 visitors, not more, from family'

Singaporeans have to take precautions as they celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year amid the coronavirus pandemic, to guard against the risk of new clusters forming, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Wednesday (Jan 27).

On his part, he will be having a small celebration at home. PM Lee said: "I will do my usual visits to essential workers who are still working away during this period... Then I will celebrate Chinese New Year with eight visitors - not more - from the family."

Fulgrim

[3:29 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Apparently they spot check randomly and if u have it uninstalled

[3:29 pm, 27/01/2021] +: You sign extra

Alvin

[3:53 pm, 27/01/2021] +: 1) Have Silver Ambassadors visiting elderlies to explain to them about the vaccine.

2) Mainstream media advertising on the benefits.

3) Wheelchair friendly access to innoculation centers.

4) Visits to those elderly who have not taken the vaccines and find out the reason. Could be they are alone and unable to travel.

My 2.14 cents

Nats

[3:54 pm, 27/01/2021] +: ???

Nats

[4:21 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Lol this one new thing ah? I never hear before sia

Sorry if I sound outdated but I wadi in 2019 😂

[4:34 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

55% in Singapore support vaccination.

34% sitting on the fence.

11% reject

https://youtu.be/wFTeStGeNyc

Rama

[4:35 pm, 27/01/2021] +: 55% including me.

[4:46 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

To reach minimum herd immunity, we need 80% vaccinated.

To tackle new more contagious strains, we need at least 90% vaccinated to reach herd immunity.

[4:52 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

With 80% vaccination, 1.12 million are not vaccinated.

With 90% vaccination, 560,000 people are not vaccinated.

These people can host the virus, and jump hosts among them.

The 80% or 90% act as barriers to separate the hosts so that virus will not jump from the unvaccinated hosts.

[4:55 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

If below 80% or 90% - we cannot defeat the covid pandemic - because they can still jump hosts.

And worse, if the covid.mutate and render the vaccines ineffective, all the vaccinated become render useless - and need to find a new vaccine.

Rama

[4:55 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Hope common sense will prevail eventually

[4:58 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

So for the vaccination to succeed, all must participate.

Not this is my health, my problem, my decision.

Because even if one leak, the whole community affected.

Bobby Tan

[5:00 pm, 27/01/2021] +: But there are some stubborn people who just dun listen and thought they are smarter than Govt.

[5:01 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

🤷

Rama

[5:17 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Agree

[5:17 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Sad to say, their reluctance will affect us too in some way

Ben

[5:24 pm, 27/01/2021] +: 5m already had first vaccine jab in the UK. That's almost the entire Singapore population.

Rama

[5:25 pm, 27/01/2021] +: We  need to be practical and get vaccinated.

Ben

[5:27 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Yes, and if we can achieve 400,000 per week by March then by end of August everyone will have had 2 jabs

[5:29 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Worst scenario if the 560,000 or 1.12 million come together congregate and virus spread among them.

Virus mutate, and reinfect the other 4 million vaccinated people.

Best scenario is, 1.12 million or 560k people are separated by the 4 million vaccinated people, virus cannot jump hosts and die a natural death.

The herd immunity concept is to bank on this best scenario.

[5:30 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Now everyone knows why I am so eager to get everyone vaccinated?

Phyllis

[5:32 pm, 27/01/2021] +: How about yourself?

[5:33 pm, 27/01/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Yes. Including all my family members.

Bobby Tan

[5:38 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Good

Phyllis

[5:39 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Well done Zen Beng.

Nats

[5:39 pm, 27/01/2021] +: Well done Jab Beng
