Don’t be rattled by tactics to exaggerate

news on Singapore-China relations:

Chee Hong Tat

Let us put things in perspective.

China is our largest trading partners and Singapore is the largest investor in China.

But Singapore has also many large trading partners such as :-
(1) ASEAN
(2) FTA with US
(3) FTA with India
(4) FTA with Japan
(5) FTA with Australia, New Zealand
(6) Impending FTA with EU
(7) FTA with S Korea
and many trade with Countries all over the World ---- which comprise our vital trading partners and trade that contribute to our GDP.

While the importance of trade and relationship with China cannot be underestimated, our relationship with all the above must also be balanced.

It is not a zero-sum game.

We cannot ignore the rest of the World - and solely cater for China alone.
Nor can we ignore China - and cater solely for the rest of the World.

China is important to Singapore.
The rest of the World is also equally important to Singapore.

We must be friends to all and adversaries to none.

This philossophy since independence must be upheld.

I think I have seen a lot of bad press from YouTube . Especially news from China side putting Singapore down. Well, these are tactics to mess up emotions and and confidence.

Whether we kowtow or not kowtow, whether we stand firm or not SOUTH CHINA SEA is international waters, China's intention to build pipe lines, trade roads, sea routes which will bypass Singapore has already been in the mind for a long time. Goes a Long long way back.

There are lots of implications from those propaganda news, well unless it's comes out of XI JIN PING's mouth that he " want to punish so so so, / condemn so so so/ shut out so so so"

The rest of the those propaganda news, dun let it gets on you. Of cos OBOR and Khra Canal may become reality, we have to come out with some tactics for future survival.

Enemies are very happy to see us loose confidence in our leaders and choose someone worse to take over.

Competition, changes that impact us - will constantly happen.

It is how we work with, respond to, navigate our ways, work our way out that matters.

The World is very big.

New Opportunities will constantly open up as we face new challenges.

As long as we continue to have Big Heart and Big and Wise Mind - to work with everyone and uphold the philosophy of "Make Friends with Everyone and Adversaries to none".

We will make it and prosper.

The World is so big - about 6 billion people.
Singapore is so small - only about 5 to 6 million people.

As long as we are friends to the whole World, to feed 5 to 6 million people a year is easy for Singapore.

Ricky Lim ·
6 billion people each give us $100 a year, Singapore will have $600 billion a year to feed our 5 to 6 million people.

Thus, if we have all friends in the whole World, 6 billion people will feed us with $100 - and we have $600 billion.

If we make enemies with a Country with 1 billion people, we will only have 5 billion people to feed us with $100 - we will have $500 billion.

If we make friends with 1 billion people but make enemies with 5 billion people, we will have $100 billion.

So we must upheld the philosophy of "Make all friends and make no enemies with the World".

Also while we aspire to work with China on One Belt One Road.

We must also learn from the experience of Japan similar initiative in 1990s that end up in failure.

Refer to the article in South China Morning Post :-
"WHY CHINA’S ‘ONE BELT, ONE ROAD’ PLAN IS DOOMED TO FAIL
Eerie similarities with Japanese scheme 20 years ago suggests a future of white elephants, wasted money and corruption on a scale never seen before"
