All public housing projects delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic are expected to be completed by early 2025, said the Housing Board on Sunday (16 July), in the latest update on its efforts to clear the backlog of Built-To-Order (BTO) flats.
๐ฌ *What are your views on the Government’s efforts to clear the backlog of BTO flats to promote greater accessibility to public housing?*
So far, about 72 per cent of these BTO projects – or 66 housing developments – have been completed between October 2022 and June 2023. The remaining 28 per cent of delayed projects are still under construction, added HDB.
In the first half of this year, the public housing authority completed about 11,940 flats across 16 housing projects, the highest number it has achieved in the half-yearly period since 2018 when 9,190 flats across 11 projects were completed.
Among these projects are Anchorvale Village in Sengkang. One of two BTO projects that have exceeded their legal completion date during the Covid-19 pandemic. The other being Punggol’s Waterway Sunrise II.
Due to the delay, 197 buyers who had booked their Anchorvale Village flats by May 4, 2022, will receive estimated reimbursements ranging from $1,100 to $4,500, with the average sum being about $3,000, said HDB. The total reimbursement amount for all 197 households is estimated to be $600,000, added HDB.
Buyers would get the maximum reimbursement sum they are eligible for, without needing to submit any claims or proof of expenses, and within two months of completing the purchase and accepting the settlement agreement, said HDB.
HDB said on Sunday it recognises that construction delays had inconvenienced flat buyers, adding that it will do its best to “deliver the projects expeditiously while ensuring quality and safety”.

Speaker of Parliament Tan Chuan-Jin has resigned, after coming under fire this past week for a hot mic comment he made during a Parliament sitting surfaced.
Tampines GRC MP Cheng Li Hui has also resigned, said a statement from Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Their resignations are necessary to maintain the high standards of propriety and personal conduct which the PAP has upheld all these years, said PM Lee on Monday.

Consequential History?
Civil wars to civil rights, war and peace, the crossroad of patriotism in today's America is perhaps diminishing, what a roller coaster ride; from President Roosevelt radio talks to President Kennedy TV talks, all are high notes of patriotism that captivated millions of Americans and the low point in the 1970s (Vietnam war) and again into the high days of the Clinton's presidency (70% in the 1990s) and now less than a quarter of people cares about the country! History has proven that great civilizations with long history rewrote their history over and over as in the instance of Russia and France, both have emerged out of their own past to today.
How about China's thousands of years of history, wars and civil wars and uncountable millions of the Patriots sacrificed their lives for the sake of rights! Battles were won and peace was lost.
What does your mind and heart say?
Trust and a sense of belonging; it is more than reciting the pledge and the anthem.
Given a scenario of the lack of past history of a nation, it is understandable that millions are not in sync or ignorant with one's country past history. Even more so now because of the explosions of the digital media and the younger children and adults are reading less books compared to fifty years ago.
History is lost? Therefore it is the key job of the government to communicate these valuable historical facts, consequential history and through the strength of the institutions in bringing all the meanings of patriotism to the people.
What is the value of citizenship? It is so simple yet so powerful very often taken for granted; it is an invincible connection to each and every citizen that comes together as one patriotic people in crises or divided, disintegrated and doom!
So what are our values and beliefs and our level of patriotism; our past and present tense?

"Life is a metaphor?"
There was a concert in a big city. They recruited part time workers locally and offer the following different... (incentives)
Do three hours of work to get an out-of-arena ticket;
After six hours of work, you can go to the in-arena to watch the performance; If you work all day, you can get the tickets for the best seats in the front row in the middle of the powerpac actions. (rules)
There were a pair of siblings from an ordinary family who were willing to work all day in exchange for a ticket in the front row. So, they started the hard work. (stations in life)
