President Halimah Yacob delivered an address that sets the agenda for the rest of the Government's term at the opening of the second session of Singapore's 14th parliament on Monday night (Apr 10). She spoke about ensuring a meritocracy that works well for all Singaporeans, which will mean rethinking the nation's approach to education and work, and laid out 4 key priorities for the remainder of the Government’s term.

💬 What are your views on the list of priorities outlined by President Halimah Yacob in Parliament?

Here are the 4 key priorities:

📌 Opportunities for all

To combat social stratification, Singapore must rethink its approach to education and work. The Government will continue to prepare children for the future and provide more resources for those who start out with less, re-evaluate the way society rewards different skills and recognise the various paths to success, and increase support for disadvantaged groups such as lower-income workers and people with disabilities.

📌 Strengthened social safety nets

The Government will study ways to extend job support to workers at higher risk of skills obsolescence and unemployment amid economic uncertainty and technological change. It will also improve healthcare services, enhance retirement adequacy, and expand care and living options for seniors. It will ensure that public housing stays affordable and accessible.

📌 Smart and green city

Singapore will continue to renew and transform its urban landscape with technology, while becoming more people-friendly, such as by strengthening distinctive cultures and heritage of neighbourhoods, having better-connected streets and green spaces. Housing estates will become more vibrant spaces that promote a shared identity.

📌 Stronger sense of shared identity

The Government will reinforce individual and family efforts and encourage contributions from society, to reduce dependency and entitlement. Employers must invest in their workers, while community partners must complement efforts to support vulnerable families. A stronger network is needed to tackle complex challenges ahead.

President Halimah Yacob noted that these four key priorities tie back to the Forward Singapore nationwide engagement exercise, to reaffirm the core values held dear by Singaporeans – fairness, inclusivity, mutual support and the desire to give back to society – which share the Government’s agenda.

[10:12 am, 11/04/2023] +Happy Victory: President has outlined them well, and i feel every Singaporean's basic needs are met, and she calls for opportunities for every Singaporean to realise our potential.

It's important that we trust each other, and we trust our Gov too.....looking at how our 4G leaders have navigated the complexities of COVID, and now into another era of global challenges where countries are taking care of their own immediate needs -- and given their size/resources/challenges -- they really don't have to care about Singapore.  and all the more we need to leverage on our agility to transform ourselves and our nation -- it's really back to survival mode -- and we need to adapt to survive.

I hope while our Gov works out the strategies, every Singaporean will pull together...and those of us who do well, to reach out to others who need a helping hand.

With this -- I am hopeful that we can do well, to leave a better Singapore for the next generation.

[10:13 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: I feel the speech was written for her by government so cannot comprehend it being called a presidential speech!

[10:17 am, 11/04/2023] +~L: It's so great to read about these as being priorities. Singapore is a shining beacon in the world for how a developed country can look after and support its population without being nationalistic and negative about other countries.

The President has offered a very positive message that speaks to opportunity and strength, and that comes from a clear minded and united country.

[10:19 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: Well said. She is a safe pair of hands afterall

[10:19 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: I don't really read too much into such motherhood statements. U can me realistic or cynical, I am more interested in what is really done to achieve those

[10:19 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: So was Ong Teng Cheong.

[10:20 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: Lol

[10:20 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: OTC is the reason why all this qualifying criteria keeps getting higher

[10:20 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: How many of you think it will be a walkover this sept again

[10:21 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: Honestly they should abolish it if they keep raising the bar

[10:21 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: Waste of resources if it's always a walkover or a case of Henry ford's model T

[10:23 am, 11/04/2023] +~L: Yes,  the substance matters. Agreed. I do think it's good to get these points on the agenda though, so that Gov can be held to account.

[10:23 am, 11/04/2023] +Ah Heng: Confidence is when LKY was still around given the way the global situation we are in now, we need foresight people who are able to dance on this landmine and kindergarden global stage where certain powers are trying to force leaders to take side

[10:24 am, 11/04/2023] +Ah Heng: so whatever can be talk and make public but actions take a greater presence then words and speech

[10:25 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Agree

[10:26 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: The trust part is critical. How to build trust without it being abused . I agree the global situation is getting more challenging and I can spin the gahmen already building the narrative that we need to give them more trust and power to steer the boat. Where to draw the fine balance: give them the confidence and trust to make the best decisions yet not carte blanche powers to ownself check ownself

[10:26 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: Without accountability

[10:28 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: As they say, trust is earned , not given

[10:28 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Rumours has it that dbs Peter seah is being asked to contest the upcoming presidential elections!?

[10:28 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: Asked by who?

[10:29 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: It's pointless if you have 2 candidates just for show 🤣

[10:29 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Another way is raised the bar too high and in the end, get only nominated by government!

[10:29 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: The ford model t joke was that when henry ford launched his car

[10:29 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: Pple asked, what colours can I choose

[10:29 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: He famously said, u can choose any colour, as long as it's black

[10:29 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: Lolololol

[10:30 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: I feel my presidential election is going in that direction

[10:30 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Remember the accountant General who stood against otc!?

[10:30 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Long ago, he was head of the civil service

[10:30 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: 😳😄

[10:48 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Rumours do not mention who asked him.

[10:50 am, 11/04/2023] +TD: Feels like a lot of hot air talking points.

Will like to see more substantive points on HOW these are going to be achieved instead of just saying rah rah stuff for the sake of saying them.

[10:52 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: After TCB went against Dr. Tony Tan which was a close call!

[10:52 am, 11/04/2023] +~L: Yes, that is the next step - how. But the first step- What, is important too.

[10:52 am, 11/04/2023] +Fulgrim: Exactly. That really scared them

[10:53 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: That's why it should not be seen as a presidential speech but one on behalf of government.

[10:55 am, 11/04/2023] +TD: No one heard anything about TCJ being asked to Run?

Or has he been permanently "cold stored"?

[10:56 am, 11/04/2023] +Smiley face: Good morning, Ah Heng!

One narrow path for nations to walk, that is....

"We have no lasting friends, no lasting enemies, only lasting interests..."

- - Winston Churchill

Thank you!

[10:58 am, 11/04/2023] +Ah Heng: well quoted ...

[10:59 am, 11/04/2023] +Smiley face: Foresights!

"The future is what we make of it. We owe it to ourselves to give of our best to build the foundations of a harmonious and integrated nation, peaceful, prosperous and vigilant, a haven of tolerance, harmony and progress in the stormy seas of Southeast Asia."

MM Lee Kuan Yew

[11:01 am, 11/04/2023] +Ah Heng: actually is more than stormy seas in SEA now is more like walking on a high wire ... with both ends sway by manic global leaders and their band

PM Lee Kuan Yew, his essay dated 28/4/1971

[11:12 am, 11/04/2023] +Smiley face: Paper tigers?

No trouble...没事, 没事...tiada masalah, berehat...பிரச்சனை இல்லை...?

[11:36 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Crouching tiger, hidden dragons!?

[11:40 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Yes

[11:45 am, 11/04/2023] +Rama: You never know!?

[11:57 am, 11/04/2023] +SL: What President shared yesterday night is a pragmatic agency in a strategic manner, guiding the government and Singaporeans to maneuver in this multipolar world order. President Halimah's sharing is foresight and applicable to the current environment.

[0:02 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Heard the same from the government so their foresight

[0:14 pm, 11/04/2023] +SL: Singapore needs current leaders with foresight to navigate in a new order. Lately, Macron foresaw the environment is changing, and he also laid out his points for Europe and France, which I gather based on the opinion/ news reported in various newspapers.

[0:17 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: America is passed with macron for saying Europe  should be more independent of the Americans and stay away from the Taiwan issue.

[0:17 pm, 11/04/2023] +SL: 😅

[0:19 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

Broadly speaking, the President speech formulate the strategic directions for policy making by the Government to resolve:-

1. Bridge social divide gap

2. Ensure income adequacy for individual household until retirement

3. Adopt sustainability as a way of living

4. Shared responsibility by government, business and households.

These are 4 holistic goals that Singapore aspire to achieve - to ensure we continue to succeed as a Nation.

With the conceptualisation of these 4 policies priorities, the government will be busy formulating the workable policies and solutions to achieve the goals.

I believe feedback sought from the public will help to refine the policies that benefits us all.

[0:19 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: American CIA chief went quietly to Saudi Arabia to protest new partnership between between them, China and Russia!

[0:22 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Don't expect to be around to see this fruit.

[0:22 pm, 11/04/2023] +SL: I think he is voice out their primary concern on the latest peace deal in the middle east, based on an analysis of opensource information. Didn't see news mentioned in related China and Russia on that trip.

[0:22 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

This 4 key priorities are a long term goals - that will need time to implement.

[0:24 pm, 11/04/2023] +Jimmy Chew: Because of Donald trump's antics. Money above all else

[0:25 pm, 11/04/2023] +SL: Goals are achievable. I believe we can see it...

[0:25 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: History might repeat itself come 2024!?

[0:26 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

I think Andrew concern is the Presidency term is ending come sep 2023.

[0:27 pm, 11/04/2023] +SL: I misunderstood. My bad.

[0:27 pm, 11/04/2023] +Jimmy Chew: Asia and ASEAN has to decide who rules in this part of the world. USA influence is drying. That's what most people fed up with freedom influence and want a dictatorial universe to put some order in the world

[0:29 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: I am hoping for a OTC/TCB type!

[0:29 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: We are caught in a no man's land currently!

[0:31 pm, 11/04/2023] +Jimmy Chew: Hopefully it's does not bind us in chains and  we have to do what China or Russia wants with the rule of the gun. Like Nazi Germany and Russia gave their freedom to the Hitler and  Stalin and Moa and their ideologies and there were cleansing of the elite and suppressions

[0:31 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

I prefer a consensus one rather than a confrontation one.

Fiery politics don't serve us well.

[0:31 pm, 11/04/2023] +KL: But I thgt left only 6 month wahhh 6 month can do so many things :))

[0:32 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Neither does a yes man or yes madam president but a people's choice!

[0:32 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Not likely!

[0:33 pm, 11/04/2023] +SL: Elected President holding office term is different from Elected government term

[0:34 pm, 11/04/2023] +65 Rama: Yes

[0:39 pm, 11/04/2023] +SL: There is constitutional role for the elected President, which President exercise according to the Singapore constitution.

[0:40 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: OTC I feel was given a hard time trying to be independent!

[0:52 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

I am particularly interested in finding out:-

1. How to ensure every household close the social divide and income divide gap - so that our society will be a tighter social compact.

2. I am also particularly concerned - whether job holders can ensure continuous employment until they officially retired - enabling job holders and their families members to have sufficient income to live and retire comfortably.

[0:53 pm, 11/04/2023] +Grace: I am concerned about elderly who are working past retirement cos of rising costs.

Another group is young/middle aged who work to support their elderly parents and young children.

What can we do to support them?

[0:53 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Likewise

[0:53 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Likewise

[0:54 pm, 11/04/2023] +Grace: Many elderly I know don't have money to go to cafes and holidays but the young people seem to have. It is very sad to see.

[0:55 pm, 11/04/2023] +Smiley face: " Giving that young fellow a shot of chance...we are all chasing our own little star if hopes, isn't it!"

- - anonymity

What else more that helps to uplift social mobility of a person and her/his family and generation after?

Education is just one of the many deciders of social mobility, all parents minds is one commonality that is "hoping success for their offsprings" (望女成凤, 望子成龙) ! It is understandable and fair point from the perspective of modern parenting living in an urbanised country!

     - - in progress - -

[0:57 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Agree

[0:57 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: We will never see the rich share their wealth with the lowest of society

[1:00 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Unless the government chips in through taxes collected.

[1:08 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Quarrels, destructive confrontation, antagonism - only polarised and divide the society - and will overlook the larger goals that serve the nation.

2. Robust but constructive debate and discussion - will ensure issues are thoroughly examined, blindspots are not overlooked.

But unity are preserved and Society social compact are keep intact.

[1:14 pm, 11/04/2023] +Jimmy Chew: Not all can hold constructive debate when the people don't see meritocracy at play but more referrals, nepotism etc either real or perceived

[1:16 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Notice that the President highlights the backdrop of geopolitical situation - that will affect us - and we can't operate as usual - but have to stay alert for any geopolitical issues that will badly affect us.

2. One such development is more and more countries moving away from using US currency for trade.

Not sure if this is a growing impact on us - as we hold US currency as part of our reserves.

[1:17 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

Former Treasury Official Warns of 'Complete Implosion of Global Economic System' if US Dollar Loses Reserve Currency Status

Former Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs for the U.S. Department of the Treasury Monica Crowley has warned of “catastrophic” consequences if the U.S. dollar loses its status as the world’s reserve currency. “That would mean the end of the U.S. dollar,” she said, predicting that “there would be a complete implosion of the global economic system.”

Crowley Warns of ‘Catastrophic’ Consequences if the U.S. Dollar Loses Global Reserve Currency Status

Monica Crowley, former Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs for the U.S. Department of the Treasury, explained on Fox News Saturday what would happen if emerging economies move away from the U.S. dollar towards the Chinese yuan and the USD is no longer the world’s dominant currency. She stressed:

It’s really hard to overstate exactly how catastrophic the abandonment of the U.S. dollar would be as the world’s global reserve currency.

Crowley explained that since the end of World War II, the dollar has been considered a safe haven. Initially, it was backed by gold, but after President Nixon took the U.S. off the gold standard, there has been no hard asset backing the dollar for the last 50 years. Instead, it has been backed by “the strength and economic power” of the U.S., she said.

The former Treasury official added that another important factor is “the fact that oil has always been traded in dollars,” warning:

If that were to end, that would mean the end of the U.S. dollar.

Emphasizing that the U.S. dollar having the world’s reserve currency status “has been a real privilege,” she expressed: “We’ve abused the privilege by wholly reckless monetary and fiscal policy for so many years, certainly over the last couple of years, which has really devalued the dollar.”

Crowley continued: “On top of that, now you do have this perfect storm of Biden’s weakness, his war on American domestic energy production, the Ukraine war … Because of all of these things, we’ve got America’s enemies, led by China, forming a new economic bloc.”

The former Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs added that since we are at a pivotal moment, “all it would take at this point … is for Saudi Arabia, who has indicated that they are open to this, to say: ‘You know what, we’re going to be open to considering other currencies to trade in oil.'” Crowley warned:

If that were to happen, there would be a complete implosion of the global economic system, but certainly the American economic system. And if that were to happen, you’d be looking at sky-high inflation just raging, Weimar Republic kind of inflation. If you think inflation is bad right now, just wait.

“But more importantly, we would lose our economic dominance and we would lose our superpower status,” she noted.

Global reserve holding US $ currency as reserves fall from 72% to 59%.

Brics countries - Brazil, Russia, India and China use RMB to trade.

Saudi Arabia also start to use RMB to trade oil with China instead of using US $.

US currency as exchange for trade whereby US earn $150 billion from China and Brazil trade gone - just because China and Brazil do bilateral currency swap.

ASEAN also increasingly use bilateral currency swap instead of using US currency for trade.

ASEAN trade figures even larger - close to US $1 trillion per year with China.

[1:34 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

As for sustainability and recycling - I fully support this initiative to ensure we live in a green sustainable world - and delay or roll back the effect of global warming.

But I noticed that almost all the recycling bin are exposed to the elements of sun and rain.

I thought after we organise our recycled waste using the issued recycled box, we should put it in the recycled bin for recycling.

But if the recycled bin is expose to the rain, the water will contaminate the recycled items and our efforts will go to waste.

It seems like the last mile is a blindspot that have been overlooked.

[1:38 pm, 11/04/2023] +Rama: Good point

[1:52 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

The following are my takes why many countries are moving away from US currency:-

1. Other than US using US $ as a sanction against countries that go against its interest, there are other economic considerations - that should concern and worry us.

[1:52 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. US financial reserve - only about US$129 billion - even smaller than Singapore financial reserves by 3 times - set aside by Central Bank for financial liquidity intervention.

2. Thus there is no way for US FED to intervene and help to provide liquidity to SVB, Silvergate, Signature, First Republic - whereby SVB deposit assets alone is close to US$200 billion.

3. If US FED need to intervene to provide liquidity to guarantee depositor's deposit - there are 3 ways they can do:-

a. Raise tax - US voters and business will make noise - and any politicians that suggest this will lose the election.

b. Borrow and incur more debts - by issuing US treasuries bonds with high interest rate - to entice local big business, rich individuals and foreign investors, foreign government to buy US treasuries bonds.

The current US public debt is US$31 trillion - and the debt servicing burden (paying capital and high interest rate) --- is no joke.

c. Do quantitative easing (print money).

Only US can do this, without incurring devaluation of US $ to become "banana currency"  and trigger a big lost in the wealth of US economy, business and individuals because :-

i. US is a big consumption Country - whereby World Countries make products and sell to US directly or indirectly (through supply chain).

Hence World Countries usually has large US currency in as part of their reserves to trade in US $.

Also world trade are denominated in US $.

As US print more money, World Countries will have to support, by selling their local currencies to buy more US $ - to preserve the values of US $ - so that the currency exchange rate is keep stable - and not cause instability in currency exchange for trade - leading to loss in competitiveness or business loss in foreign exchange when doing trade.

In other words, the whole world is financing US printing of more US $ - to solve US liquidity problem.

Countries like China, Japan, EU, Middle East like Saudi, Singapore etc - are indirectly financing US quantitative easing.

4. When US do quantitative easing quite often - it will irritate its many trading partners and will adopt position to reduce the role of using US $ in international trade eg.:

a. Do bilateral currency swap with their trading partners eg.

Singapore swap with China yuan, Japan yen, EU euro, Indonesia rupiah, Malaysia ringgit, Vietnam dong, India rupees etc

b. Only keep sufficient US $ in the reserves to trade directly with US.

c. By doing so, we will need only to keep lesser US $ as our reserves - and when US in future do quantitative easing - we don't need to sell more of our currencies to prop up US $.

d. Also as a regional and world financial hub, many foreign fund investors will put US $ in Singapore banks - and the banks can lend to business in US $ for trade - and thus Singapore Central Bank don't need to maintain alot of US $ as financial reserves.

This is my thought ----- as I see financial crisis one after another emerging from US from the past decades until now - making the same mistake again and again.

[1:52 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. World Countries cannot afford to allow US $ from depreciating in values when US do quantitative easing (print money) - because US is a big consumption Country ($23 trillion GDP) - the biggest buyer of World production.

2. If Singapore currency is too strong when US $ depreciates as US print more money, then US consumers will not buy Singapore goods and services - as Singapore goods and services become too expensive.

3. Hence to make Singapore goods and services competitive to US market, Singapore MAS got to sell Singapore $ to buy more US $ - to make the exchange rate stable for trade.

Else Singapore manufacturers and business - with no buyers to buy our products will go bankrupt and our workers will lose their jobs.

4. Hence, indirectly Singapore and other Countries who are selling their goods and services to US - will have to sell their local currencies to buy US $ - no matter how much money US is printing.

We become the "大水🐟鱼“ - whereby US borrow our money to make themselves rich - by just printing money.

5. Other Countries cannot do what US is doing, because the moment they print more money, the values of their money depreciate - and become "banana money" - and they will lose the values of their wealth overnight - because other Countries will not prop up their currencies.

Even big Economies like China, EU - with about $19 trillion GDP - cannot do quantitative easing (or print money) like what US is doing - because they are not a big consumption Country - but are big exporters.

If other Countries are not selling their products to them, other Countries will not sell their local currencies and buy China or EU currencies - and their currencies become "banana currencies" - and their Economy, business and individual will take a big loss in wealth.

[1:53 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

Yes.

I think previously before China come into the picture as the 2nd largest economy in the world, the rest of the world very dependent on US as the largest consumption country.

Hence, hub and spoke approach is used whereby most trade and import ended up in US - and maintaining US $ make sense.

But eversince Trump junk TPP and blow hot and cold about globalisation focusing on its internal economy, print money etc - it irritates the rest of the world especially China become more and more important being a major trading partners with many countries, ASEAN in particular.

Hence holding more US $ no longer make sense.

Diversifying to RMB make more sense as ASEAN trade is few times higher than trade with US.

[1:53 pm, 11/04/2023] ☸️  Danny 心:

When US print money, eg. An American own $100.

After US print money and give him $100, his wealth become $200.

But the value of $US will fall whereby he need to pay US$200 for a product that he used to pay at US$100.

Because the world hold US $ as reserves for trade, foreign currency become too expensive and US consumers will not buy.

Hence foreign government got to use their local currency to buy US $ to make trade with US favourable.

As a result, other countries wealth in US$ plummet by half.

American become richer by US$200 increase from US$100 - at the expense of the rest of the world who uses their local money to make American rich through printing money.

This make the rest of the world very angry as we become US "big water 🐟 fish" - daylight robbery.

"Looking Into the Mirror of Plato's Republic of Merits...?"

Universal?

"...Plato saw his imperfect world and thought of ways he could improve society...in a state of utopia!

A utopia is an imaginary place where governments and social conditions are perfect. No government has ever adopted Plato’s ideas, but his philosophy influenced leaders for over two thousand years!

Plato argued in favor of an "aristocracy of merit" or rule by the best and the wisest people. Plato believed that the government should raise all children so that everyone would have equal opportunities?

Schools would test students on a regular basis. Students who did poorly would be sent to work, while those who did well would continue their studies.

Plato believed a small group of intelligent and educated men and women should govern society. This small group would select the best and the brightest students to join them.

Plato mentored a young man named Aristotle. A mentor is someone who teaches or gives help and advice to a less experienced and often younger person.  Aristotle’s ideas would form the basis of modern science..."

As for point 3 Sustainability, it is important for us to look at the climate conditions of Singapore being a hot and humid country.

1. I noticed that in Jurong point mall and the up and coming buangkok MRT sengkang grand mall - both try to do a natural sunlight with minimal air con - forgoing the DCS (District Cooling system).

2. Being humid and hot weather, I can hardly stay in the food court for even 1/2 hour.

3. Hence I stop visiting the malls that adopt green concept - because it is uncomfortable, hot and humid.

[5:00 pm, 11/04/2023] +Dan: With regards to Opportunities for all, the govt ought to relook into the starting salaries of school counsellors in school. The average pay of counsellors is between 12k to 14k in Singapore. Their salaries are even higher in other developed countries. Yet according to google, MOE offers 3k to 8k for school counsellors and we can see more counsellors shunning the job and prefer to work elsewhere. Emphasis on the emotional wellbeing in school must be given the same importance. Please relook into this.

Facts?

Many believe that a successful business person would be a good policymaker: If she/he knows how to make herself/ himself rich, he should know how to make millions of people richer?

One should understand that running an economy is different from running a business.

What's the diff?

Managing an economy is not similar to managing a corporation due to distinct feedback systems.

A company has a positive feedback system. That implies that the profitability of one business line (SBU) would lead to the development of another. If a corporation sells computers and phones, then the increase in sales of computers would often cause a rise in investment in phones. That is not always a fact, but it usually happens!
