[10:07 am, 25/06/2021] +REACH: πŸ“’ Topic πŸ“’

πŸ’¬ What are your views on the latest announcements, particularly the plan to accelerate the vaccination programme to progress the opening up of the community? What can we do to encourage those who are eligible but who have not been vaccinated to do so?

Yesterday, the Multi-Ministry Taskforce on COVID-19 announced that Singapore would accelerate its national vaccination programme from Saturday (June 26).

The MTF urged people over 60 to get their jabs as soon as possible, noting that “not enough” seniors had been vaccinated. Minister Lawrence Wong also called on younger Singaporeans to encourage their elderly family members to protect themselves through vaccination.

MOH noted that vaccination remains a key enabler, and its ability to help Singapore re-open safely can only be felt when we can collectively achieve a high level of population coverage for vaccination.

-----

[10:09 am, 25/06/2021] +Caleb: wonderful, I can book a CC nearest to my home. Instead of travelling which will take around at least 45 minutes.

[10:13 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Fantastic to see this. Really impressed with the Gov approach. Right now get the supplies in and make it convenient for people to get their jabs. The PMs message I saw posted online was very good, very positive and reassuring. Nice to see us taking the initiative and putting out a confidence notice.

[10:14 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: I have small concerns over the vaccines with lesser efficacy, but they are better than nothing. We shouldn't be surprised to see cases with fully vaccinated people (several friends overseas have tested positive despite being vaccinated) - so maybe set expectations otherwise people will be saying "See, the vaccine doesn't work, why bother?"

[10:15 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: As the PM said - the vaccine reduces symptoms significantly at the very least.

[10:15 am, 25/06/2021] +Patrick Loke: On the right track albeit not fast enough. We need to follow Israel’s example to vaccinate and open up faster.

[10:16 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: To encourage uptake, people who are eligible but declining should be prevented from attending events, travel because they are knowingly risking others health and safety.

[10:36 am, 25/06/2021] +Patrick Loke: Yes. Apart from different travel restrictions, unvaccinated people ought to face significant inconveniences in day-to-day activities locally:

Eg: when entering buildings, dining zones, use of public spaces and facilities, pre-event testing etc.

[10:37 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Yes, unless they can show they are exempt.

[10:37 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Or not yet eligible, which seems to be by age mostly.

[10:38 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Maybe  Singpass could show: "Eligible but not vaccinated"

[10:39 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Especially now people can get nonmRNA if they really want to

[10:51 am, 25/06/2021] +Smiley face: We, the citizens of Singapore, pledge ourselves as one united people, regardless of race, language or religion, to build a democratic society, based on justice and equality, so as to achieve happiness, prosperity and progress for our nation.

Emotional vs Rational vs Divisive

[11:03 am, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: More concern over the revised high risk visitor thinggy

[11:03 am, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Us and eu had too express their concern over D+

[11:08 am, 25/06/2021] +Smiley face: Situations & Updates

DELTA has penetrated into 90 countries!

India has a new strain DELTA +

Israel has 63% vaccinated, daily cases in 100s all are DELTA.

UK 90% cases are DELTA

USA reported 10 States having DELTA.

EU,  9 out of cases are DELTA.  Projections to reach 90% DELTA cases by August.

Peru has existing UK, India and SA strains. Now a new strain called LAMBDA with 5.5% fatality!

[11:19 am, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: also isreal had taken new measure against Delta and both USA and Isreal had noted there are a rise in case of full vaccinated people getting d+

[11:20 am, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: so is the decision to revised people from high risk countries to a shorted "stay away from public" feasible ?

[11:20 am, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: is it another gamble we are taking?

[11:21 am, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: before anyone jump the gun and say how long we going to be shutting ask urself

[11:21 am, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: are u going to say the same thing if another round of outbreak happens espically if your love one is going to be hit ?

[11:22 am, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: note we still have very young children who are not immune and please stop saying toddlers recover fast, is NOT ABOUT THE REOVERY but the after effects of contracting the sickness

[11:31 am, 25/06/2021] +YT: We are in this Heightened Alert because of the first Delta strain. Now that there's a new strain, the government is considering relaxing rules. Gosh... I wonder what they are thinking. And the worse is, tightening restrictions for Australian travellers.  I think the Australians have controlled this much better than those in India and our neighboring countries!

[11:40 am, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Seriously between india and china i will hands up for China even their vaccine sucks but is better den indian in many folds not i belittling india

[11:42 am, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Sorry rain check did we get a case on the D+? Was told it was last nite news

[11:42 am, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: No right?

[11:44 am, 25/06/2021] +Anne: The 5 phases of vaccine compliance:

Phase 1 – Voluntary

Get the media, social media influencers, experts etc to spread propaganda.

Phase 2 – Incentives

Offer lottery tickets, free beer, free donuts, etc. to those who are vaccinated.

Phase 3 – Denial of Access to Venues and Services (Private Sector Punishments)

Use corporations to deny people access to services (such as air travel, cruise ships, restaurants, sporting events, concerts, etc.). This phase hopes to make being unvaccinated extremely inconvenient.

Phase 4 – Criminal Offence (Government Sector)

This phase will kick in after the media blames the unvaccinated for continued outbreaks that are killing people. Any who refuses to vaccinate will be fined or jailed. The G will need to suppress the news about those outbreaks that occur in clusters that are mostly vaccinated. For future cases like the TTSH and MINDS clusters the G should lie that most staff and patients there were unvaccinated because they refuse vaccination. This is lying for the greater good.

Phase 5 – Medical Rape

This kicks in as the unvaccinated would rather pay fines and go to  jail. Empower the police or even the army to break into people’s homes and drag away those who are not vaccinated. Strap them to chairs or gurneys and force the needles into these people.

[11:48 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Was this copied and posted from a US author? Or your own work? Lol

[11:49 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: It's an entertaining read, and clearly written by an anti-Vaxxer!

[11:51 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Other than becoming magnetic - I don't understand the Anti-Vaxxers justification for denying themselves the vaccine. Anyone here got an idea what the reasoning is for not getting vaccinated?

[11:51 am, 25/06/2021] +Anne: I copied and amended it. In the original work phase 5 includes gun confiscation (coz the army cannot break into gun owners’ homes without fatality).

[11:52 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Very considerate of you! And don't mind my humour in return :) I am interested though what evidence or reasoning there is for avoiding the vaccine?

[11:53 am, 25/06/2021] +Ben: I've had both doses so would be good to be prepared for possible problems!

[0:30 pm, 25/06/2021] +REACH: 117 people fined for breaching safe management measures since start of phase 3

SINGAPORE - More than 100 people have been issued fines for breaching safe management measures in parks and beaches since the start of phase 3 (Heightened Alert), which kicked off on June 14.

[0:57 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: I am in a restaurant and there are parents here with young kids and they can't sit together. It's just plain daft. A mum and dad with a 5 year old have to be split up. How does that make any sense?

[0:58 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: I appreciate some people break the rules and abuse trust, but common sense should prevail.

[0:58 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: If they can go out together why must it be split up is a kid....

[0:59 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Think minister already says is ok if it is 3+1 kid or even 2 kids

[0:59 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Exactly, they can sit in a cab, go on the train but can't sit as a  restaurant.  Splitting them actually increase the risk of infection being spread

[0:59 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Ok, maybe that is not communicated to the staff?

[1:00 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Do you have a link to that?

[1:00 pm, 25/06/2021] +Alvin Lim: Cos the tables are arrange such a way that there’s a gap

[1:00 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Find in the internet

[1:00 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: I'd like to do my good samaritan bit for the day

[1:00 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Thanks for your help

[1:01 pm, 25/06/2021] +Alvin Lim: The restaurant can’t be arranging the tables everytime a family of 3 comes

[1:01 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Is in one of the cna link i think

[1:01 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Yes

[1:01 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Ok Ill search:)

[1:01 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Use brains lah is a freaking kid

[1:01 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Just add one chair to the table

[1:01 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Why must add table really society cannot use brains now is it

[1:02 pm, 25/06/2021] +Caleb: Later a family of 4,5 or 6 how

[1:02 pm, 25/06/2021] +Caleb: πŸ˜‚

[1:02 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Unless the stupid table is design die die for 2 person and 2 sets of plates and bowl and utensils

[1:02 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: 4 5 6 7 8 den of cos split table lah

[1:02 pm, 25/06/2021] +Alvin Lim: I sit side by side with a gap in between when I lunch with colleagues

[1:03 pm, 25/06/2021] +Alvin Lim: It should be ok

[1:03 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Else if they ok pinic mat big big u want 30 also can plus pay fine

[1:03 pm, 25/06/2021] +YT: Masks on when they travel in train and cab. Masks off when eating. That's why.

[1:04 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: No diff lah

[1:04 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Vaccine also tio

[1:04 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: No vaccine also kenna

[1:33 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

1. Difficulty in getting elderly vaccinate.

2. These elderly are not the anti-vaxx - as they don't stop their families members from vaccinating. They don't spread false information or discourage others from vaccination or spread fear claiming vaccines will harm people - like those anti-vaxx group do with malicious intent.

3. But they refuse to vaccinate out of fear :-

a. Either they have read online false information spread by the anti-vaxx group about the safety of the vaccines.

b. Or they read about coincidental death after vaccination - although the death may not related to the vaccine.

c. They have some discomfort due to some old man sickness - and fearful the vaccines could make it worst.

4. Government send people down to persuade the elderly to vaccinate to protect themselves and their families members.

But they refused giving the following reasons :-

a. They are not feeling best of health and still are on some long term medication - they are fearful the vaccination will make it more discomfort for them.

b. They say, are you going to be responsible if anything happen to me.

5. Children of elderly take turn to persuade, coax and encourage the elderly to vaccinate themselves to protect them from covid so that they won't fall into serious illness --- but the elderly excuse is - as long as I stay at home and don't go out - I will not get covid.

- But the truth is that, children and grandchildren who work or study could be infected (even after full vaccination) - and may infect the elderly who are not vaccinated.

- But elderly still adamant not to get vaccinated - out of fear.

6. Thus I suggest the Government to impose "Mandatory Vaccination".

a. If need be medical staff escorted by 2 policeman visit elderly at the home to get "Mandatory Vaccination" - armed with warrant that say "Vaccination" is "Compulsory" - and must vaccinate on the spot after examination by medical staff to be fit and eligible for vaccination.

b. Then put a jab into the arm ----- authorised by "Law".

[1:36 pm, 25/06/2021] +Thomas: You will be surprised, it’s not just the elderly but young ones who read alot of fake news on the internet and become anti-vaxer or influence by religious site

[1:38 pm, 25/06/2021] +james: I honestly cannot agree with making it mandatory

[1:39 pm, 25/06/2021] +CQ: Wah lau eh, make vaccination mandatory, show up with policemen???? Seriously??!!

[1:39 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Well inconvenience the young one will work.

If they can't go anywhere, lose their freedom - they will want to vaccinate.

[1:41 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Diphtheria and measles how does the government enforce Mandatory vaccination?

[1:41 pm, 25/06/2021] +CQ: Omg enforcing mandatory vaxx doesn't mean they show up at the door with police and warrant and force poke you lahhhhhhh

[1:42 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Then tell us how?

[1:47 pm, 25/06/2021] +CQ: These are childhood vaccinations. It's the parents that face penalties of fine or jail term. Children who are not vaccinated don't get equal access as other children of their age Eg school admissions which require proof of vaccination. This is the manner of enforcement, NOT force poke!! The law is not here to violate bodily autonomy like that. Bodily autonomy is a cornerstone of medical practice. So even if you do manage to pass a law like that which is not found unconstitutional, no medical professional will be prepared to do it.

Then tell us how to get the elderly Vaccinated?

[1:49 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

I only interested in outcome.

Not excuses.

[1:50 pm, 25/06/2021] +CQ: OK Hitler

[1:51 pm, 25/06/2021] +CQ: Human rights is not an excuse. Bodily autonomy is a basic right, not a privileged

[1:51 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Simple choose death or jab

Can call me Hitler, Satan or devil.

[1:51 pm, 25/06/2021] +CQ: *privilege

[1:52 pm, 25/06/2021] +CQ: OK you do you. This is exactly the "Medical Rape" thing that @Anne was talking about.

[1:52 pm, 25/06/2021] +Thomas: πŸ˜‚like the word “force poke”

[1:52 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Oh you have joined the anti-vaxx

[1:53 pm, 25/06/2021] +james: If these vaccines were really effective and proven safe, the Govt could make it mandatory.

The reality is, there are too many unknowns. Esp abt the long term possible side effects the vaccines may have.

It’s too big a political gamble to take to make it mandatory only to come back and bite them later on.

That’s why it’s not mandatory and probably never will be.

[1:53 pm, 25/06/2021] +CQ: No I haven't. I'm just utterly repulsed by the disrespect to bodily autonomy and the attempt to use the law as your excuse.

[1:54 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Simple if you are given 2 choices:-

1. Death from covid

2. Jab and live

Which one you choose?

[1:55 pm, 25/06/2021] +CQ: Then let them choose!!!!

[1:56 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

I ask you - what is your choice?

[1:56 pm, 25/06/2021] +CQ: Seriously @+REACH, please do something about this.

[1:56 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

You can't even answer for yourself?

[1:57 pm, 25/06/2021] +CQ: Who are you that I have to answer to you????

[1:58 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Hahaha - so goodbye to your excuse about bodily autonomy.

[2:12 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Yes - important to understand what people are thinking and why. I don't claim to have all the right answers or point of view.

[2:13 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: I just also want to be sure the information being given is accurate or at least validated by evidence.

[2:13 pm, 25/06/2021] +james: I don’t presume to have all the answers

[2:14 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #1 not relevant really. If no one gets ill from a vaccine how is liability relevant? I can understand that concern at first, but 000's of millions are now vaccinated.

[2:14 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #2, same as above

[2:14 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #3 same as above....

[2:15 pm, 25/06/2021] +james: I just think to proceed with more caution when there are too many unknowns. To me long term health of our people is of utmost importance.

Whether to vaccinate or not is up to the individual to decide as best they know

[2:15 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #4 no longer true

[2:15 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #5 - who says we can't see the data?

[2:16 pm, 25/06/2021] +james: Headed into meetings. All the best reading!

[2:16 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #6 - yes clearly we can't have long term testing, but how long do we wait while people are dying?

[2:16 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #7, if feel informed, personal choice I guess

[2:16 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Yes Ok, I won't go on. lol

[2:17 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: I will read with a more open mind!

[2:17 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #9 yes, not 100%, but 90% seems better than 0% without a vaccine

[2:17 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: same as above

[2:18 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #11 - even if that was true, it's not just about death, it's about hospilization and the impact on health-care. I hope that is not in dispute!

[2:19 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #12 evidence please?

[2:19 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #13 ok if you don't trust him but that isn't a reason, it's not all about him

[2:20 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #14 this is about Fauci again?

[2:20 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #15, yes that's what viruses do, they mutate, and yes we will likely need more improved vaccines.

[2:21 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #16 you are questioning vaccine safety on your website. Why do you say you are not allowed to, and how is this relevant anyway?

[2:22 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #17 - this is the biggest reason? Getting vaccinated makes the virus stronger? Ok, I don't know how to respond to that.

[2:23 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: #18 you had covid and survived so why should any get vaccinated. That's not a reason.

[2:24 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Sorry, for the long list everyone. As you can see it took less than a few minutes to analyse this list of reasons not to get vaccinated. Take from it what you will. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but just make it based on facts and evidence. People's lives are at risk. Our economy is at risk. Choose wisely, please.

[2:40 pm, 25/06/2021] +~Yu: How is it even a debate? We have anti-vaxxors here?

[2:40 pm, 25/06/2021] +Joseph Ong: What i “love” about people like you, is how you would rather believe in someone whose credentials (if at all you can call that) have little to nothing to do with what they are giving “expert” advise on, whose identity you didn’t (in fact, couldn’t) verify - is he is even a real person or a made up character, while in the same breath, you would dismiss certified experts who have been building upon the collective knowledge and experience of experts - who have dedicated their lives to learning about that particular subject/field of study - using scientific, verifiable and readily available data/information that stands up to scrutiny from other experts.

I read though the “article” briefly. Makes perfect sense .. if you are ignorant and too lazy to find out fac…

[2:45 pm, 25/06/2021] +Joseph Ong: We need a vaccine against stupidity πŸ˜‚

[2:45 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: We have that already. It's called Education. Clearly some people want to avoid that too.

[2:46 pm, 25/06/2021] +Joseph Ong: That’s true πŸ˜…

[2:46 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: The amazing thing about Education is that it is free, encouraged and good for you. Notice a pattern?

[2:47 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: I guess making things mandatory is not a guarantee of success.

[2:47 pm, 25/06/2021] +Alvin Lim: Natural Selection bro

[2:47 pm, 25/06/2021] +Alvin Lim: It’s natures vaccine since the beginning of time

[2:47 pm, 25/06/2021] +Alvin Lim: Lol

[2:47 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: I'd usually say yes, but in this case Covid doesn't discriminate which is why we need everyone on board.

[2:48 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Right now under 12's are unprotected.

[2:48 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: In fact 50% of the population are unprotected.

[2:48 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: If people don't wake up and get over their prejudices then we have little hope as a society

[2:51 pm, 25/06/2021] +Joseph Ong: πŸ˜‚

[2:58 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: The only anti-vax argument I understand (but disagree with) is that you can get covid and it's bad for a few days but then you are ok, so why vaccinate? There is a real problem in that you are much more likely to have long term problems having had covid than you are likely to have problems from a vaccine. That alone should be enough to persuade someone one way or another, let alone being unvaccinated means you are likely to spread it to friends and family much more easily.

[3:08 pm, 25/06/2021] +~Yu: No point using logic on anti vaxxors you won't change their minds..it's like arguing with pigeons. Just directly implement disincentives for not vaccinating

[3:38 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: ehh u all buay sian wan ahhh everyday sure have this topic wan hahahahaha

[3:48 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: govt / society / friends had do alot already, now if individual still dun wan to take up is their own responsibilities... say untill the cow can fly also will not get 100% vaccination ....

[3:49 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: but is not to say is not possible espically in the older generation all they need is one traitor among them den the rest will follow to jab ... same for many social gangs in our society cos this is a singaporean mindset

[3:50 pm, 25/06/2021] +Joseph Ong: Oooops 🀭

[3:51 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ken: πŸ‘

[3:56 pm, 25/06/2021] +Joseph Ong: All the points on the list either contradict each other or are so ridiculously wrong that is laughable if not for the fact that there are many who believe in it.

If not, you should 🀦

My close friend comments:-

As refer to the small pox diagram:-

In the absence of vaccines, smallpox dragged on for generations. So we have to face this prospect that if we don't have very high vaccinated population, covid-19 may not resolve in our lifetime.

We are blessed that we have a choice to vaccinate or not. And even a choice between getting a mRNA vaccine or non mRNA vaccine.

Let's welcome the accelerated vaccination programme that has been offered to us. Many from other countries are envious. Let those who want to be vaccinated, get them at the shortest possible time.

Then we know who and where the laggards are. There are simply people who just need education,  wait-and-see or slow to act.

The staunch anti-vaxxers will eventually surfaced. If the numbers are small, do nothing. Just hope they are safe.

My close friend comments:-

Personally, I'm concerned with the timing of reopening.

When the reopening is too fast, it may become a demotivation for those laggards to get vaccinated.

We see this in other countries.

All of a sudden, vaccination rates slow to a halt.

1. This vaccination programme is never an individual choice - but a collective public health - that affect each and everyone in a single Country - and albeit the bigger World.

2. Because as long as one is infected - it can spread and infect others - leading to a safety problem to all Humanity at large.

3.It is akin to one rat - spoil the whole broth.

4. Hence public health safety of a pandemic proportion - taking into account the safety and the larger good of humanity ---- sometimes, a stronger approach to impose mass vaccination on the population - even to the point of Mandatory Vaccination maybe necessary.

[6:11 pm, 25/06/2021] +YT: Yup. Let's do our part to debunk fake news! Thanks!

1. In other words, partaking in vaccination - is a social responsibility for each and everyone - to ensure individual stay safe - and ensure the whole Community and the Nation population is safe.

2. It is akin to National Service - a sacrifice to be made by each individual - for the sake of whole Nation, albeit the World.

Thank you for your views so far, We want to HEAR MORE from you! πŸ€—

⏰ We will be extending the chat to 10pm today. ⏰

πŸ“’ Topic πŸ“’

Today, Minister Lawrence Wong delivered a keynote speech at an IPS-RSIS Forum on Race and Racism in Singapore.

Minister Lawrence Wong offered three suggestions on how we can improve Singapore's model of multiracialism:

1) We must recognise that in any multi-racial society, it is harder to be a minority than a majority. The majority community must do its part and be sensitive and conscious to the needs of minorities.

2) We must continue with the approach of mutual accommodation, trust and compromise.

3) The Government will also continue to engage widely and to update its policies help to strengthen racial harmony in Singapore.

Minister also urged Singaporeans to move forward with a spirit of mutual respect and fellowship, and have the humility to recognise that our multi-racialism is still a work in progress.

πŸ’¬ What are your views on the these suggestions? How we can continue to promote racial harmony to build a cohesive society in Singapore?

[6:40 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Less extreme than jail would be a curfew for people voluntarily unvaccinated so everyone else can choose to stay home when unvaccinated people are roaming the streets? That way it is not mandatory, but the rest of society can live without fear. I'm  kidding of course.....

[6:41 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: If there is no delay to supplies then maybe a 'help desk' at MRT stations so people can ask questions about vaccine if they have concerns.

[6:42 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Well, unvaccinated people can stay and roam in an offshore island.

The rest of vaccinated stay in the mainland.

That's a better choice.

[6:42 pm, 25/06/2021] +Rama: Yup

[6:44 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Big increase in UK cases. This is not going away and countries opening up without care are reckless.

[6:44 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Only when they vaccinate then they can live in the mainland.

Guarantee everyone will want to vaccinate to come back.

[6:45 pm, 25/06/2021] +Rama: Kusu Island too!

[6:45 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: We should be careful not to cause division and unrest in society because of different opinions about vaccinations.

[6:45 pm, 25/06/2021] +Rama: Yes

[6:45 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: I do think it's about educating people by presenting evidence and facts.

[6:46 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: I worry that anti vaxxers say that pro vaxxers are spreading propaganda, and then the logic and data is ignored.

[7:00 pm, 25/06/2021] +Caleb: Oh dear

[7:03 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Maybe we can train up students, part time workers and other available resources?

[7:06 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

The crux of the message is :-

1. Take away the things that people highly wanted or desire.

2. In exchange for vaccination.

3. Even hardcore anti-vaxxer will give up - and go for vaccination.

4. In our history, no matter how harden a gangster is, or how harden a terrorist is - he can be rehabilitated.

5. The same go for anti-vaxxer - target the things they prize most, they value most - in exchange for vaccination.

I think it will work.

[7:12 pm, 25/06/2021] +Stella Yip: Do we have capacity to increase local poly nursing student intake? If not, hope G can allocate resources for this.

[7:15 pm, 25/06/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

That's why psychological experts should also be included in the combat covid panel - to strategise approach to breakdown people's psychological fear, misinformation, or other mental blockade - to achieve higher vaccination - especially among elderly, misguided youngsters and anti-vaxx group.

Different strategies for different groups.

[7:29 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Maybe an opportunity to train people up in general not just for those who want a career in nursing.

[7:30 pm, 25/06/2021] +Rama: Social stigma of being a medical professional when there's a pandemic must also be tackled.

[7:30 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Perhaps general nursing can be seen as a life skill not just a career.opportunity for more part time workers who would find a full time nursing role too hard.

[7:30 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: True

[7:47 pm, 25/06/2021] +Rama: Add local undergraduate from the various universities

[7:49 pm, 25/06/2021] +Anne: Totally agree with Min Wong’s statement about appreciating the richness and diversity in multiracialism instead of forcing all of us to be the same “bland homogenised broth.”

Excerpt from news article:

Mr Wong said: “This is our distinctive philosophy of multiracialism. We do not devalue diversity, but accept and celebrate it. Multiracialism in Singapore doesn’t mean forgetting our separate racial, linguistic, religious and cultural identities.

“It doesn’t require us to erase our rich inheritances in favour of a bland and homogenised broth. Instead, it enjoins us to embrace our inheritances, respect those of others and go beyond them to encompass a national identity and shared purpose,” he added.

[7:52 pm, 25/06/2021] +Rama: We must not become the local version of KEN and KAREN in America!

[7:54 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Also outsider who work here please dun bring their believes of culture back home is correct mindset to here. We have our way of coexisting for 50 years if we are doing wrong we will have been wrong 45 yrs ago!

[7:55 pm, 25/06/2021] +Anne: To truly have a harmonious multiracial society it requires us to be ingrained with the belief that all humans deserve respect. So far a lot of unhappiness is due to a lack of understanding and sadly even disrespect of other people’s culture and religion. To foster understanding and respect of different cultures requires education and communication - a lot of it.

[7:55 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Many racial dis harmony started internal but usually due to external beliefs leading to crumble of internal social network

[7:55 pm, 25/06/2021] +Rama: Our ISA must be constantly updated to keep pace with changes in the next generation mindset.

[7:57 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Dun compare our hse with others as each is different. Stay firm in our culture and believes bring back social studies call it brainwashing for whatever but it ties our young to our roots and not those from east west north or south

[7:59 pm, 25/06/2021] +Anne: Perhaps the media can help by interviewing many multi racial families on how they preserve peace and harmony in their homes.

[7:59 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Also what race we taking here i only see one non ethic race .... the SINGAPORE people......

[8:01 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Genetically we we different but when we are citizen of a country our roots and culture we built here so whats this whooha about race this and that.... Seriously 70 80 90s no such issue .... So where have the society gone wrong

[8:01 pm, 25/06/2021] +Anne: No, there are 4 main races, each with different cultures. The beauty of Singapore is we have a very rich and diverse cultures and religions and we have so far been very harmonious, at least until recently.

[8:02 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Now now dun come tell me no internet in the past, now ppl more such  educated such craps.....

[8:02 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Glad to see some focus on this. I'm still shocked it's such a problem here. Not really sure where it comes from or why...

[8:03 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Educated should be even more understanding to different race or religion as no 2 humans are rights and can agree very good example a married couple hahahahaa

[8:03 pm, 25/06/2021] +Anne: Actually all along there have been disrespect towards other races and cultures, esp from some elderly Chinese (based on my experience). It’s just that they kept their disrespect low profile and private.

[8:03 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Please lah like other races dun....

[8:04 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Single out a race here is dam uncalled for

[8:04 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Yes, yes, appreciating, embracing and learning from our differences is key. Not pretending we are all the same, not judging each other for our differences.

[8:04 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Haha yes

[8:05 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: We need to be careful as well not to say our way is our way and we won't learn or adapt.

[8:05 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Show me a society that have no racisim... Thus personally i am dam proud of Singapore... Example how can we have a indian temple , one chinese temple and a mosque all the same street

[8:06 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Yes, me too. Maybe that's why I don't understand these problems

[8:06 pm, 25/06/2021] +Anne: Actually Min Wong did single out the Chinese majority in the news article. I’m sure other races also show disrespect but so far they never did so in my presence.

[8:06 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Bet u all dun know ya... Many envy how this can be done

[8:06 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Min wong do it does not mean we shld and must follow

[8:06 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Yes, the Singapore people are a single collection and mix of culture, language,  religion and more.

[8:07 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: If he say all xxxx go die will u go die too

[8:07 pm, 25/06/2021] +Anne: Min. Wing did not do so to mean disrespect.

[8:07 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: 100% agree, and while there is of course some racism here it is very low key compared to other countries

[8:08 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: Not being personal but in a social group is not nice to single out certain grps especially on sensitive tipic btw i not refer to him

[8:08 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: He can say all he want i am not there nor did i listen to his speech

[8:09 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: But as a responsible being here in this island i have my rights to uphold racial harmony ....thats i think  shld be instill to all who live eat shit and die here

[8:09 pm, 25/06/2021] +Ben: Yes, I'm not sure that was intended like that. It's ironic to single out a race in a speech about racism, but he meant it I think in a respectful and honourable way.

[8:14 pm, 25/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: I could have said one and if not here again i said: times and technology have change BUT culture and social brotherhood should not..... I know os not the correct term or words but those who understand i hope u get what i am saying

[8:46 pm, 25/06/2021] +Stella Yip: Perhaps not just multi-racial but also multi religion families.

[8:52 pm, 25/06/2021] +Stella Yip: To my knowledge, multi-racial and multi religion families achieve harmony on simple rules. Everyone is free to live their life as they choose to, however they are not to impose their preferences on other people. Nor should their personal choices be an inconvenience to other people.

[8:58 pm, 25/06/2021] +Stella Yip: Accepting and  embracing differences must not deteriote to suffering difference.

[9:01 pm, 25/06/2021] +Stella Yip: ε°†δΊΊζ―”ε·±helps but is not easy to achieve

[9:22 pm, 25/06/2021] +Suma pamu: Is this true..

[9:35 pm, 25/06/2021] +REACH: Policies like GRC system still needed because S'pore is not immune to racial discrimination, says Lawrence Wong

Singapore has not arrived at a state where its people are free of racial discrimination, and it is for this reason that policies like the group representation constituency (GRC) system are still in place.

Making these points on Friday (June 25) during a forum on race and racism, Finance Minister Lawrence Wong said recent events of racist behaviour have shown that Singapore has some way to go to move beyond race.
