[10:38 am, 30/06/2021] +REACH: 📢 Topic 📢

As we move towards a new normal, MOH said yesterday that they would no longer disclose details (such as age, occupation and places visited) of each new COVID-19 case detected in the community. Instead, MOH’s daily update will now detail the progress made in our nationwide vaccination scheme.

MOH added that there will now be "a strong focus on preventing the virus from spreading, vaccinating our population and starting the process to transit to a new normal".

💬 What are your views on MOH's move to not disclose details of each COVID-19 community case, as we move towards a new normal?

Singapore is continuing to make steady progress with our national vaccination programme. Thus far, about 60 per cent of our population have received at least the first dose of the vaccine.

MOH also announced the shortening of dose intervals yesterday. It said that all eligible individuals can now get their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine within four weeks of the first, down from the six-to-eight week interval flagged earlier. This would ensure that more of our population can be fully vaccinated earlier.

[10:43 am, 30/06/2021] +Alvin Lim: If MOH is no longer giving numbers of daily infected rates then how will we know if there are new clusters and take precautions?

Singapore facing competition from rival hubs as some opening their borders through successful mass vaccination.

Hence Singapore should focus on our vaccination efforts and ramp it up quickly - so that we can also open our borders to sustain our economy.

Singapore ranking drop drastically.

[10:54 am, 30/06/2021] +Valli: Knowing the details keeps us on the alert & be more cautious & avoid being complacent.

[11:00 am, 30/06/2021] +Boon: Dear REACH, this is progress and MOH should move away from micro-details of this important matter. So, yes, agreed - so that we can try to get on with life (in this new normal that you have put it). However, MOH and the Task Force should give confidence to Sg public there will be transparency on any policies that can possibly directly increase the # of imported cases e.g. if Sg would throw open our borders for whatever reasons. There should also be transparency to the public on the # of community cases if they reach a certain number e.g. 100, and certainties of next steps - and publish this threshold so that we know, and can take confidence. It is also a test of transparency and management. For the public, it is then about self-discipline, and to trust the leader in this matter. This is also so that Sg don't get lost in micro details and forget to adjust our lifestyles.

[11:36 am, 30/06/2021] +Alvin Lim: I still strongly believe that new clusters must be declared for precautionary measures. And for travel agreement with other countries, it will be suspended when daily average for unlink cases go beyond 5pax. All these numbers and details must be revealed daily. My 2.14 cents

As we slowly move towards endemic stage, those not vaccinated are particularly vulnerable.

Elderly especially.

Any other ways to make elderly get 100% vaccination - if family members exhausted their means to get the elderly Vaccinated?

Other than mandatory vaccination, can't think of other ways.

[11:50 am, 30/06/2021] +Valli: Has it been made mandatory for all incoming travellers to be fully vaccinated b4 they arrive here.

And / or if they arrive here, are they taking advantage of the free vaccination?

[0:08 pm, 30/06/2021] +CQ: Not too happy about this change.

Particularly on the information relating to clusters where it lists only "Case 123456", the removal of details also means that you can't cross-reference this, making this information meaningless as is.

I want to know the details so that I can monitor for myself if I may possibly have come into contact with any infected persons or been to any of those affected places, and conduct myself accordingly. With this new change, I would be fully reliant on MOH to contact me for potential exposure and I no longer have the information necessary to make informed decisions about whether I continue meeting people or need to monitor my health for a bit.

[0:11 pm, 30/06/2021] +Valli: Agree on this.

[0:15 pm, 30/06/2021] +Boon: If we don’t have individual case reports of flu or pneumonia, what is our criteria to say that Covid should also be treated the same? At the end of the day, are we in fear of Covid infection or the unavailability of medical help?

[0:17 pm, 30/06/2021] +Alvin Lim: Agree on this as well

[0:32 pm, 30/06/2021] +Alvin Lim: I think the assumption is that those who are vaccinated and got covid don’t require hospitalization. However, they still need to be quarantine and these facilities might get overwhelmed if we treat it like normal flu. Don’t forget there are still some numbers who can’t be vaccinated eg those below 12 years old and those allergy to vaccine.

[0:34 pm, 30/06/2021] +CQ: My basis is much simpler. If I'm infected, I may just be a statistic to MOH. But I don't want to pass it on to my 96 year old grandma and let her be the next MOH statistic.

[0:35 pm, 30/06/2021] +Suma pamu: But we still able to know about clusters?

I mean how many cases belong to one particular cluster?!

[1:07 pm, 30/06/2021] +CQ: They do list that info, but like I said, unless it's clearly linked to a place like CGH, all you get is "Case 123456" and you have no point of reference if who this is or if you're ever at risk.

[1:08 pm, 30/06/2021] +Suma pamu: Oh.. 😏

[1:52 pm, 30/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: PERONNEL VIEW for the day's topic

[1:52 pm, 30/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: As we move towards a new normal, MOH said yesterday that they would no longer disclose details (such as age, occupation and places visited) of each new COVID-19 case detected in the community. Instead, MOH’s daily update will now detail the progress made in our nationwide vaccination scheme.

MOH added that there will now be "a strong focus on preventing the virus from spreading, vaccinating our population and starting the process to transit to a new normal".

[1:54 pm, 30/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: I believe the profile of the infected is NOT required for the public, BUT the Venue or place where there is a clustered shoudl continue to be made known / High Risk places should be made known. Using MOE words - " "a strong focus on preventing the virus from spreading,", you meant just by WORDS and YOUR MOE POWER can stop spreading?

[1:55 pm, 30/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: is the Public that you need to control and with more information given to the public, the risk will be much lower cos people are informed. UNLESS this is done to cater to business needs . Look in such time 2 hands cannot cater to all corners of the society. U cannot have a cake and eat it all. some will have to suffer

[1:55 pm, 30/06/2021] +Kevinn Wang: anyway watever we say here is useless cos already cast in stone

[2:12 pm, 30/06/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

If we intend to enter into endemic state, 2 important things must be a pre-requisite:-

1. Population must undergo vaccination.

2. Treatment drugs must be ready to treat patients to ensure recovery.

[2:48 pm, 30/06/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Evidently, MOH not posting infection number in this new normal - is to move towards a new normal - by treating covid as entering into endemic state.

2. Endemic state is where covid will be treated as mild flu.

3. Bloomberg ranking shows that Singapore is dropping in ranking with our response to the covid  - by not opening up our economy and moving fast enough to the endemic state.

4. Hence, moving quickly to the endemic state, become important as a business hub.

5. But for Singapore to move into endemic state,  public health safety must be secured.

6. With live secured, livelihood must also be secured.

Because without lives - there will be no livelihood.

And without livelihood, there will be no lives.

7. Hence 2 pre-requisite must be in place :-

a. Vaccination must be ramp up to ensure everyone must be protected.

b. Treatment drugs must be in place to treat covid-19 patients if people are symptomatic.

8. Only when public health safety is secured - then we can safely enter into the endemic state - by opening up our borders.

9. Notice today MOH announcement of not announcing infection number - is the first step to move into endemic state.

10. However I will like to urge the government to focus in getting the unreluctance people to get themselves vaccinated especially the elderly who are the most vulnerable.

11. I am sure Singapore will be able to move up our covid resiliency ranking in Bloomberg once we succeeded in our vaccination efforts - and the world will reinstate their confidence in us again as a forward looking business hub.

[2:49 pm, 30/06/2021] +REACH: 7-day stay-home notice for travellers from Australia; none for Guangdong province

Border restrictions will be tightened for those flying into Singapore from Australia and relaxed for those flying in from China's Guangdong province, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) in a statement on Wednesday (June 30).

[2:49 pm, 30/06/2021] +Valli: Probably US is hiding the real actual numbers of cases & deaths, or not doing enough testing.  which reflects its decreasing numbers.  Probably there are already taking it as endemic...

[2:52 pm, 30/06/2021] +Valli: Likewise India is reporting decreasing numbers.  They also come to a stage of giving up.  And let the transmission just take its own course. Containing the virus is beyond their capability.

US has already move into endemic state.

You also note that quite a number of EU countries also have move into endemic state.

Israel also.

So the Bloomberg ranking - is a global indicator of which countries have moved into endemic state.

MOH has decided not disclosing details of individual community case but it is still closely tracking and monitoring the details correct? As we move on to define and  live life in the new normal, we need to be aware that the world is recovering or still suffering from the ravages of covid 19. Hence, detailed monitoring is still necessary.

Some people  age 40+ registered and took jabs with those 60+ as they found there was no age check there on the website. So let alone those who want to wait and see if good intentions work well. How is Israel now?

[3:11 pm, 30/06/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

No countries in the world has reached 80% vaccination rate yet.

Not even Israel.

That's why Israel is getting children to vaccinate.

Only 80% is barely achieving herd immunity

[3:12 pm, 30/06/2021] +Thomas: We got to understand the motives of those Doctors in doing it.

[3:17 pm, 30/06/2021] +Boon: Feels like vaccine discrimination; where on the other hand, the public is asked to set aside reservations about those vaccines that are govt-sanctioned and view these vaccines in the "right context". Honestly, if Sinovac is really not good enough for SG, it would be good to show proof and stop its release to the public.

[3:20 pm, 30/06/2021] +An fan: Let us say and old man had heart disease, unfortunatelyhe caught COVID, later on he died in 3 days after that. It would be reported he died of COVID right? If the same person died 3 days after taking vaccines, it would be reported there was no relationship to vaccination since he already had heart disease. Am I right?

[3:20 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: Yes 95% is that number and even then with vaccines at 98%+ effectiveness. Our vaccines are 90% so need everyone vaccinated. Even then many people will still get infected at some point.

[3:22 pm, 30/06/2021] +Boon: I know. But its reads like things are being made a bit more difficult for people who choses Sinovac.

[3:23 pm, 30/06/2021] +Thomas: It’s political. China’s vaccine and we cannot outright ban it. I was ask by friends in HK why we charge people here to take Sinovac. There’s certain pride involved here for Chinese although the efficacy not so great as mNra

[3:23 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: No one is being forced to take sinovac

[3:24 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: There would be enough data about sinovac now though.

[3:25 pm, 30/06/2021] +Caleb: Think got to be fair to those who too mRNAs one. So that we are all protected especially for those that need PET.

[3:28 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: No travel, no eating out, no household visitors, no visiting other houses. Difficult to enforce, but sends a message how important it is to get vaccinated.

[3:29 pm, 30/06/2021] +An fan: That is right! No proper data provided. Even China itself does not trust it. Those Chinese who already took 2 jabs and were allowed to move freely in Singapore after less than 48 hours waiting for test results only. But when they go back to China, they still need to serve 14-28 days quarantine in hotels! Days vary on cities.

[3:29 pm, 30/06/2021] +Caleb: Well already got stocks in SG. So just used it.. storing it everyday is a running cost

[3:29 pm, 30/06/2021] +Boon: Protection for all is important. But the US news shared above shows deaths too from mRNA. Vaccines are not a "superman shot", and granted there are some that can be totally ineffective. If Sinovac is not totally ineffective, why are people who are injected with it still need pre-event checking (and can even be prevented from entering into places of worships as the ST article reported) while the mRNA recipients do not need?

[3:31 pm, 30/06/2021] +Boon: Hahaha...that's believable. Get rid of the costs on one hand, while people who gets injected with it are treated as though they are not protected...

[3:31 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: mRNA is around 90%, Sinovac around 50% - (I'd need to confirm those, can't remember exactly). That's a big difference, but 50% better than nothing. Remember getting vaccinated is also about protecting others. The more effective the vaccine the less you will spread.

[3:31 pm, 30/06/2021] +CQ: While I can understand where this is coming from, the requirement to still do PET for those who choose Sinovac should've been made clear right at the start when this was made available for registration. So now some of them are stuck after getting a first jab. Do they go and get Pfizer next? Can they even do so?

[3:32 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: True - why pay for a less effective vaccine. Makes no sense to do this.

[3:32 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: True, but yes I believe they can get a Pfizer jab as well. Might even be more protected!

[3:33 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/06/mixing-covid-19-vaccines-appears-boost-immune-responses

[3:33 pm, 30/06/2021] +CQ: Not sure if the mixing of vaccines have been approved in SG. I know it's approved in UK for AZ+Pfizer, but I don't think any country has done Sinovac+something else yet.

[3:34 pm, 30/06/2021] +Boon: I can only rely on public reports like this: https://fortune.com/2021/01/13/sinovac-vaccine-efficacy-rate-drop/

[3:34 pm, 30/06/2021] +Boon: "...Sinovac’s relatively low efficacy rate of 50% was due to its more rigorous standard for what counts as an infection among trial volunteers. The Butantan Institute said it included six types of cases in its results: asymptomatic, very mild, mild, two levels of moderate, and severe. (The Brazilian authorities stressed that the public should focus on the vaccine's 100% efficacy in protecting against severe cases of COVID-19.) Western vaccine makers generally included only mild, moderate, and severe categories, and companies like Pfizer are doing additional studies to see if the vaccine will prevent asymptomatic cases..."

[3:34 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: ah ok.

[3:36 pm, 30/06/2021] +Boon: Well, a more powerful medicine can have a wider "kill" radius... :)

[3:37 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: Does seem quite random: Turkey has claimed that Sinovac’s vaccine is 91.25% effective in preventing COVID-19 infections, and Indonesia has said it's 65% effective. (Both figures are based on interim trial data from the respective countries.)

[3:37 pm, 30/06/2021] +Anne: In US, yes. In Singapore I don’t think so. I believe our G will provide accurate report.

However, there’s one thing that bothers me - death after vaccination. I have heard of people who died after vaccination but the cause is usually pre existing condition, like heart disease. There was one case where someone even lodged a police report just to get a coroner to examine the body.

Although so far there is no death linked to those vaccines, but nevertheless having someone we know just die after vaccination is highly shocking. Could the vaccines have accelerated the deaths due to pre existing conditions, regardless of whether these conditions are known or unknown.

I have a family member who suffered a serious adverse reaction to the vaccine. He has quite a macabre sense of humour and asked me what would I do if he were to drop dead in front of me one day. And I wondered, if he were to really die, and the cause of death is due to a pre existing condition (not known to us since this guy is healthy), is it because the vaccine accelerated his death? Could he have lived much longer, many more years, if he had not taken the vaccine?

[4:06 pm, 30/06/2021] +Jospeh Ong: SinoVac and SinoPharm's vaccines are based on the traditional whole-microbe approach - Inactivated vaccine, Live-attenuated vaccine. Viral vector vaccine, whereas the Pfizer and Moderna ones are based on the modern Genetic approach - mRNA. There is also the subunit approach to vaccine production.

Pros of Whole-microbe approach:

- Can be developed quickly

- Tested and proven "old" tech

Cons:

- Requires special laboratory facilities to grow the virus or bacterium safely

- Can have a relatively long production time

- Will likely require repeated vaccinations

Most importantly, since this kind of vaccines works by introducing the virus (inactivated/weakened forms) into our body to trigger an immune response, it tend to be less effective/is not suitable when:

- the person's immunity is already compromised

- the virus mutates rapidly

I suspect this explains the varied efficacy range reported by different countries ie. A country with fewer new variants within its community, would (initially) report a higher efficacy/protection rate, whereas another country where there may be newer variants emerging, will see lower efficacy/protection rates since the body's immune system has not been triggered to recognise the newer strains of the virus, and hence, does not offer protection against it.

Unfortunately, we are currently at the phase where we cannot afford to be as cautious as we would like to ie. wait for more data on whether mRNA is truly effective/safe/what other unknown long term side effects etc etc because WE are the generation who needs to be THE DATA. Yes. we will have to be the genuine pigs ... for our future generations.

If the majority refuse to be vaccinated, we will most likely be wiped out before we have sufficient data/knowledge to acquire the "perfect" vaccine.

Eventually, with the experience, data and knowledge gained from the effects of the vaccine on US. scientists will be able to develop safer and more effective vaccines, as well as therapeutics to complement it.

So, for those who refuse vaccination out of fear of the unknown... I only have this to say .. the rest of us who went ahead to take the vaccine are not blind to the dangers either. We are also afraid that things might go wrong with our body/health. We are fully aware of that there is still a lot of unknowns about the longer term effects of the current vaccines... but I (and most of us) still decided to do it because we care about our future generations.

[4:27 pm, 30/06/2021] +Dilasan. J: I think the bigger issue here is why wasn't this serious side effect not communicated widely before?

There were talks of rashes and some side effects, but don't remember any talks about myocarditis, until Isreal released a study last month or so.

If ppl were informed of these potential side effect and at the same time share stat that says out of 1 miilion vaccinated only 50 get it, then ppl would have understood the concern and made an informed decision.

Ppl would even agree that vaccination benefits outweigh the risks otherwise.

But the lack of such communication potentially sowed the seeds of doubt.

I read a comment somewhere last night "50 out of a million seems like a low number until its ur own son who gets it. Then thats all that matters"

[4:28 pm, 30/06/2021] +Jospeh Ong: Those are valid questions and I can see why you are concerned. Hope you will also consider this:

1. Have you not came across reports or known friends (or friends of friends) who were otherwise healthy, suddenly drop dead for no (initially) obvious reason?  I have.

2. Have you then found out that this otherwise "healthy" individual had actually been living for decades with a rare, undetected health issue for decades... no problems/issues until that fateful day? I have

3. Wrt the family member you mentioned, it sounds like you are not aware that he had a pre-existing condition and that taking that first dose actually uncovered it. He is obviously still alive AFTER the 1st dose. Can you (or anyone) be certain that he would have lived longer NOT KNOWING and NOT TREATING the condition?

4. Since he is aware of a previously unknown condition, is he seeking treatment/changing his lifestyle, which by right, should extend his lifespan? If so, it seems to me the "vaccine" would have indirectly delayed his eventual death. Does this make sense to you?

[4:39 pm, 30/06/2021] +Dilasan. J: We are not experts to conclude the origins. But with recent revelations of actual gain of function research being carried out in the lab with the funding from US as well does create suspicions.

Anyway, finding the root doesn't have to be about finding who to blame. Its about finding the source which potentially has a ton of information about the virus itself. Which can help everyone fight this together

[4:40 pm, 30/06/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

You better have prove before you say this.

[4:44 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: That person is then at risk for spreading the virus, putting pressure on health care as well. Would it then be fair to let people not be vaccinated and then deny then health-care or access to public places?

[4:45 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: 'always'? there has been one virus that was suspected from a lab and no evidence it was. I do agree it would be useful to discover if possible, so to learn and not blame!

[4:45 pm, 30/06/2021] +Golden: If Philippines legislated, wonder how difficult to achieve here? It’s just like all the vaccines we took since infant.

[4:47 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: I thought the age range is based on year of birth, not date of birth, ie calendar year turning 12. Does anyone know for sure?

[4:48 pm, 30/06/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Indonesia legislate as mandatory vaccination.

Philippines President say jab or jail - but not approved by Congress.

To date Indonesia is the only country that has mandatory vaccination.

But many countries including advanced countries put restrictive measures on those unvaccinated.

[4:49 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: That would be all that matters to those parents yes of course. It would be terribly sad to perish from a vaccine and seem very unjust. Equally would it be fair to deny the child a vaccine and see them suffer from disease that would have been prevented. The odds of death are miniscule, compared to contracting disease which is high.

[4:51 pm, 30/06/2021] +Ben: huh? now people are saying the Delta virus was deliberate? At what point do these claims become ridiculous to you?

[4:51 pm, 30/06/2021] +Jospeh Ong: Your statement is only true if:

1. You believe the CV19 virus is created by some evil scientist in a lab and/or

2. The virus is so complex that all the scientists studying the virus are unable to decipher its structure etc

So far, (1) is irrelevant in my humble opinion, since (2) is untrue.

If you spend just a little bit of time to research the subject, you will realise that there is a wealth of knowledge readily available and some, even easily understood by laymen.

What is more puzzling, is the thought process of conspiracy theorists, anti-vaxxers and the like...

This is what scientists say.

It happens to resolving of all pandemic. And every one must play a part to achieve it.

Unless you don't believe in science.

And you don't seem to want to be a part of the solution - but a problem to the pandemic.

[5:03 pm, 30/06/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

But how does Singapore intend to find the source of the virus?

[5:04 pm, 30/06/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

And is it important for Singapore to do so?

[5:07 pm, 30/06/2021] +Dilasan. J: Singapore may have a role to play as a member of WHO and UN in deciding on this matter. Singapore's technical expertise/experts in this field could play a part.

Sorry I am not an expert on this subject to tell what Singapore could do though. 😅

It all started with me trying to reply someone who asked would finding the root cause help

[5:07 pm, 30/06/2021] +Jospeh Ong: I am not name-calling. I am making a statement to the effect that understanding such people is much more perplexing since their beliefs are based on the opposite of what most of us know to be true.

I am not saying we do not need to know the origins,,, just that i feel the priority should be to work on a solution .. which, so far, has proved does not require uncovering the source/originator.

Eventually... when we have successfully eradicated the threat, then, I am sure there will be many, who would focus their efforts on  uncovering the origins of the virus and write a nice (his)story about this pandemic.

[5:08 pm, 30/06/2021] +Jospeh Ong: Where have you been all this while and what the h@11 have you been reading??? 😂😂😂😂

[5:09 pm, 30/06/2021] +Rama: Wrong!

[5:10 pm, 30/06/2021] +Jospeh Ong: And that someone asked because you seem to believe that the solution lies in finding the root cause .. although you keep repeating that "I am not an expert on this subject "  😂

[5:10 pm, 30/06/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Yes unless you want a superpower to sanction your trade.

Australia trade has been sanctions - losing multiple billion dollars.

Are you suggesting Singapore take this path?

[5:10 pm, 30/06/2021] +Rama: Exactly

[5:11 pm, 30/06/2021] +Suma pamu: No

Its as per date of birth.

[5:11 pm, 30/06/2021] +Rama: Leave it to the medical expert and just do your part positively without procrastination

[5:11 pm, 30/06/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Why do we want to get drawn into 2 superpower geopolitical tussle - as suggested by some of these people here?

[5:13 pm, 30/06/2021] +Rama: We will be finished trying to!

[5:13 pm, 30/06/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

Either we are politically naive or we feel too garang to be drawn into people's geopolitical warfare.

[5:14 pm, 30/06/2021] +Dilasan. J: Please check. Did I make that claim. Are you an expert to say it won't work?

We are both sharing our opinions. But I am saying I am not an expert cos don't ask me the solution

[5:16 pm, 30/06/2021] +Dilasan. J: Anyway. Let's not have this go out of hand. The discussion is not about the root cause.

[5:16 pm, 30/06/2021] +Rama: Exactly

[5:17 pm, 30/06/2021] +Dilasan. J: 🙏

[5:17 pm, 30/06/2021] +Jospeh Ong: It is not my opinion that it will or will not work ... it is a fact that the scientists have been able to develop multiple vaccines that have a high efficacy rate and provide advise on how to limit the spread without having uncovered the ORIGINS to-date

[5:19 pm, 30/06/2021] +Rama: Origins of the virus will be debated for an indefinite time as no country will want to be upfront about the root cause.  Speculation is ongoing and accusations are flying back and forth all over.  Worldwide priority is a working vaccine with aim towards herd immunity

[5:24 pm, 30/06/2021] +Jospeh Ong: I am of the opinion that Facts should trump opinions .. but I accept that there are others who prefer to opine while ignoring facts. I do not insist anyone agrees to what I have to say. I may be wrong in the end... no expert in this field as well...and not here to pick a fight with anyone. I have definitely learnt a lot from others' sharing their thoughts/knowledge here as well.

[5:24 pm, 30/06/2021] +Rama: We all are

[5:28 pm, 30/06/2021] +Jospeh Ong: To be honest, a friend of mine, who has a PhD, and had practical/field work experience in virology, retro-viruses and corona-viruses, was slightly biased towards believing that CV19 may be man-made... but that was in the early phases of the pandemic... haven't checked back with him on whether he still thinks so 😅

[5:34 pm, 30/06/2021] ☸️  Danny 心:

It will cause us to lose more than US $100 billion in trade if a super power decide to sanction us - by being politically naive.

Straits Times 6May2021 report that Singapore medical experts debunk claims of link between Covid-19 vaccines and neurological diseases, say more evidence needed. Need the authorities to dispatch someone to educate and coax some of the elderly who are given letters for vaccination - but did not register to vaccinate. The dispatch person can help the elderly to register for vaccination once the elderly are convinced to be vaccinated." [2:49 pm, 02/03/2021]. Straits Times ( MAY 19, 2021, 12:36 AM.) PM Lee televised speech - faster and more test, speedy contact tracing, and vaccination. Many types of test kits are made available eg. breath analysers, DIY test kits, saliva test kits, seweage analysis in addition to ART and PCR. (SK)

101. Suggest in REACH - Mandatory Vaccination for whole population in Singapore to protect everyone - especially in endemic stage. (17/05/2021). Straits Times (1Jun2021) Covid-19 vaccine could become like yearly flu shot, say experts on Straits Times' panel discussion.

“At some point, we will see Covid-19 being included as part of our national immunisation schedule for both adults and children, and perhaps we will need regular booster shots from time to time to make sure we continue to be protected, especially against any new emerging variants,” said Professor Teo Yik Ying, dean of the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at the National University of Singapore.

102. Commented in REACH (3Jun2021) that Singapore less than 40% vaccination rate among our population has not reached an inflection point - where we can treat covid as mild flu - as though we are in an endemic stage. We cannot be foolhardy and will be suicidal if we relax our restriction without observing what the math and science of the infection and vaccination rate tell us. Else many unvaccinated people will succumb.

CNA (4Jun2021) Singapore medical experts say that our Vaccination of less than 40% has not entitled us to take our foot off the brake. Else we are going to have an explosive situation. Only when we achieve a high Vaccination rate of 70 - 90% - then we have reach endemic stage - and can treat covid as mild flu. But those unvaccinated people will be most vulnerable to covid - as they are without protection and may land them in hospitals if they fail to vaccinate.

103. I post in SCMP (30 Apr, 2021) - urge China to develop and manifest "Heart Softpower" - --- that can win over many friends all over the World instead of focus on economic power or military might to win friendship.

CNA (04 Jun 2021) President Xi Jin Ping say that China needs to create a new image that is “trustworthy, lovable, and respectful”. Chinese President Xi Jinping urged senior party leaders and wants the country to learn how to make friends and influence people. This could be a sign of a shift in China’s foreign policy posture towards constructive engagement and away from confrontation.

104. Suggest in REACH (03Jun2021) that once vaccination rate reaches an inflection point like in Israel, US, UK, EU - above 50%, infection number fall drastically. Suggest Singapore must achieve this inflection point of vaccination.

Straits Times (11Jun2021) MTF Lawrence Wong say Singapore is aiming for half its residents to be fully vaccinated by August, and at least 75 per cent by October 2021.

Finance Minister Lawrence Wong gave the projection at a news conference on Thursday (June 10), as he noted that the United States saw infection rates steadily come down - from a peak in January this year - when about half the population developed immunity to the coronavirus which causes Covid-19.

105. I commented in REACH (14 & 18Jun2021) - that Singapore has not reached endemic stage (mild flu) as we are only 30% over with 2 dose vaccination, and our infection number, hospitalisation number is still high.

CNA (18Jun2021) (5pm) Singapore’s vaccination rates are currently “still not high enough” to provide sufficient protection in the population, said co-chair of the COVID-19 multi-ministerial task force Lawrence Wong on Friday (Jun 18).

Speaking at a press conference, he noted the views of some people who think that since COVID-19 could be endemic,  Singapore should proceed with easing measures as planned and “not overreact to each and every new cluster”. “So if we were to ease our restrictions too early, big clusters can easily break out and overwhelm us and result in higher hospitalisation and even mortality for the vulnerable groups. That's exactly what we are worried about.”

106. SK suggest in REACH (8Jun2021) to arrange school by school and class by class to vaccinate school children to ferry them by school bus. Parents who agree their children to vaccinate should just sign the consent form. Dr Maliki Osman, Senior MOS (21Jun2021)say MOE has plan to ferry school children to vaccination centre when school reopen after Jun holiday. (SK)

107. SK post in REACH (18Jun2021) that the MOH website on Breakdown of local cases by Vaccination and Severity of cases - There was no timeframe stamp for the collected statistics. Presume all three bars are tabulated from the same timeframe?

MOH update the timeframe (since 28Apr2021) based on the feedback (22Jun2021). (SK)

108. Suggest in REACH (1May2021) using ring-fence to quickly isolate any cluster detected.

Straits Times 24Jun2021 MTF say "We are adopting an aggressive ring-fencing strategy - casting a wide net to isolated contacts of infected persons."

109. Suggest in REACH (30Apr2021) to monitor and use Israel vaccination model as our model for vaccination due to its positive outcome in curbing covid.

Straits Times 24Jun2021 Israel's Covid-19 vaccine success gives hope to Singapore.

110. Suggest in REACH (21Jun2021) that treatment drugs will be an important tool - the moment we enter into endemic stage by treating covid as mild flu - as treatment is important to minimise hospitalisation, ICU, oxygen support and death - to enable fast recovery from covid.

Straits Times 24Jun2021 Scientists around the World are working on treatments for Covid-19. Today, we already have a range of effective treatment, that is why we have very low mortality rates.

111. Post (January 21, 2016) to suggest Police should use handgun loaded with magazine of more than 10 rounds to replace revolvers - to deal with terrorism.

CNA 20Jun2021 Singapore police switching to Glock pistols after two decades of using Taurus revolver - here's why

112. SK (17May2021) suggest using layer-by-layer approach to with education and then inconveniencing those who refuse to vaccinate first before jumping into mandatory vaccination.

Minister Lawrence Wong 24Jun2021 say MTF is working on domestic policies to provide convenience to vaccinated people in attending events, social gatherings, religious activities. And vaccinated people can travel and return without SHN but more tests. (SK)

113. Suggest in REACH (28May, 21, 24, 25Jun2021) to impose Mandatory Vaccination for covid-19 for the whole population if to declare Endemic stage and treat covid-19 as mild flu. Without vaccination, unvaccinated people will succumb to serious illness or even death.

Channel 8 news 26Jun2021 MOE Minister Chan Chun Sing say exploring Mandatory Vaccination for covid-19 for students.

114. Suggest in REACH (16/02/2021) - 2. Layer-by-layer approach

Among the approaches we can adopt to convince "anti-vaxx" group to vaccinate :-

- TV, mainstream media, social media streaming of health experts, artistes, Government of encouraging people to get vaccinated, allay people's fear in vaccination etc.

Straits Times (27Jun2021) Ministers team up with local celebs in online videos to urge seniors in Singapore to get Covid-19 jabs.

115. SK (27Jun2021) suggest no PE for 1 to 2 weeks after school children got their vaccination jab to prevent heart exertion.

Straits Times (28Jun2021) combat covid-19 expert committee chairman say "These include refraining from strenuous exercise for one week after the second dose and seeing a doctor if one feels unwell." (SK)

116. SK (21Jun2021) suggest in REACH to discern between being reckless and taking a risk-based approach. As our vaccination rates rise, we should look at the new metrics for reopening rather than mere numbers of new infections. We are learning to accept that zero-covid is unachievable, at least not in the near term. Then can our goal be near-zero deaths and serious illness? Then how much more can we stealthily reopen without the virus rearing it's ugly head?

CNA (7Jul2021) Groups of five can dine out from Jul 12; work-from-home remains the default. Gradual reopening plan (not reckless reopening). (SK)

117. I presented my solutions in ZOOM virtual meeting (4Jul2021) with Minister of National Development Desmond Lee and MOS Tan Kiat How as well as press media - on using multi-Dimensional Matrix as eligibility criteria that represent Singapore population demograhics as well as MOP of 10 years to curb speculative activities and keep the HDB flats at prime location down. I also suggest additional subsidies that can crawl back to make HDB flats at prime location affordable.

AsiaOne (4Jul2021) (8,42pm) Minister Desmond Lee say that HDB flats in prime location is a major social policy - not just about home or possible investment upside. Stricter eligibility criteria and more subsidies may be considered to make the HDB flats in prime location affordable.

118. SK propose time-slicing of the HDB lease period to make HDB flat affordable and reduce the needs for hefty Government grants and subsidies. I presented SK proposal as Solution 2 via ZOOM virtual meeting (4Jul2021) with Minister of National Development Desmond Lee and MOS Tan Kiat How as well as press media.

CNA (8Jul2021) say smaller homes, shorter-lease units due to shifting demograhpics such as smaller family units, a rise in singlehood and ageing population. Smaller flats will be useful for singles as lesser space is required and flats will be more affordable. Shorter lease is especially useful for elderly as elderly has shorter runway and short-lease will make the flats affordable. (SK)

119. I post in REACH (21Oct2020) suggesting that Singapore should act as a gateway between US and China technology, economic and financial bifurcation.

Straits Times (12Jul2021) As the United States seeks to decouple technologically from China and Beijing retaliates, there are opportunities to be had in this tussle for Singapore, a Chinese entrepreneur has said.

This is because there is a need for a buffer zone between the two sides, said Dr Xiao Feng, chairman and CEO of Wanxiang Blockchain Inc, at the FutureChina Global Forum on Monday (July 12) organised by Business China.

Singapore can be that "technological buffer zone to connect the two countries" as a digital free port, he said.

120. I suggest in REACH (05Jul2021) that MOH should consider revising no physical exercise for 2 weeks after jab. (As a boy got cardiac arrest 6 days after jab do weightlifting). (Note :- MOH currently advise after 2nd jab - avoid strenous exercise for 1 week).

Straits Times (15Jul2021) Recruits, NSmen to avoid strenuous activities for 2 weeks after Covid-19 jabs - say SAF.

121. SK suggest in REACH (18Jul2021) I see this as an opportunity to push for people to bring forward their vaccinations. The past 7 days vaccination looked below capacity. If this is the trend for next few weeks, then strongly encourage people to bring forward their appointments. For those isolated and quarantined, once their confinement period is over and they have not been vaccinated, strongly encourage them to do so. Strike while iron is hot.

Straits Times (19Jul2021) Seniors most at risk of getting serious Covid-19 symptoms, should get vaccinated as soon as possible: MOH. (SK)

122. I and SK suggest in REACH (18Jul2021) Delta variants R0 = 5 - 8, thus need 80% vaccination for population to achieve herd immunity. Smallpoxe with R0 > 10 need 100% vaccination.

Straits Times (19Jul2021) Professor Ooi Eng Eong, a microbiologist at the Duke-NUS Medical School, said: "The Delta variant is a lot more infectious. Measures that worked in the past may not be as effective."

With a transmission rate of 5-8, in other words, one infected person is likely to infect between five and eight people who are not vaccinated (those who have been vaccinated may get infected, but the rate would be much lower), Prof Ooi said vaccination is the best strategy.

That was how smallpox, with a similar transmission rate, was controlled.

Today, about 2.7 million people, or roughly half the population, have been fully vaccinated, with another 1.5 million partially vaccinated.

Singapore plans to ease restrictions once two-thirds of people here are fully vaccinated. So time is running out for the one million eligible people still dithering about whether to get vaccinated. (SK)

123. I suggest in REACH (19Jul2021) that if we are unable to confidently subdue the KTV wave or the JFP wave from spreading, the only way to bring the infection down to single digit and zero - is to rollback and tighten the measures.
CNA (20Jul2021) Return to tighter measures needed as COVID-19 infections likely to 'rise sharply' at current transmission rates: MOH.

124. SK suggest in REACH (12Jul2021) - elderly who have regular appointments to monitor their sugar, blood, cholesterol at polyclinics. Direct them to vaccinate if they are well. Similarly, all specialist clinic doctors who serve elderly should btw advise them and counter staff to help make appointments.

CNA news (20Jul2021) Minister Ong Ye Kung in MTF say that Government is calling personal doctors of elderly to persuade the elderly to vaccinate. (SK)

125. Suggest in REACH (16, 18, 19 Jul 2021) that unless we have achieve more than 80% mass vaccination herd immunity, any suggestions of endemic is fatal. So to defeat this covid pandemic - mass vaccination must ramp up to what the transmission model say - only then we talk about endemic.

Straits Times (20Jul2021) Mr Gan said: "I think we are on an expressway towards the final objective of endemic Covid-19. But along the way, there will be bumps, and sometimes you may have roadblocks, you may have obstacles, and you may need to make a detour.

"But eventually, when we overcome the roadblocks, we will come back to the expressway and continue the journey."

He said the need remained to be flexible and respond quickly as the situation evolved in order to keep it under control.

126. Suggest in REACH (16Jul 2021) that Yes agree to endemic only if 80% are fully vaccinated. Not now when 58% are not fully vaccinated - when it can easily overwhelm the hospitalisation.

Straits Times (20Jul2021) About 71 per cent of seniors aged 70 and above here have been vaccinated. Another 100,000 or so in this age group have yet to be vaccinated, Mr Ong added.

"They have a high likelihood of falling critically ill once infected. Almost every one of them, if infected, will end up in hospital because they are high risk, and 10 to 15 per cent of them, based on our experience, will end up in the ICU (intensive care unit)."

He added: "In our case, (with) 50 per cent fully vaccinated or received two doses, plus having 200,000 or more seniors above 60 still unvaccinated, I think we still have work to do."

127. I suggest in REACH (20, 22Jul 2021) that only Mandatory Vaccination can make elderly vaccinate. Else talk until the cow come home - these elderly will not budge.

200,000 elderly unvaccinated. Because it can easily overwhelm our hospitals resources if so many elderly don't get vaccinated. This is the main reason why we need again to lockdown. To resolve the root cause of lockdown - get elderly to vaccinate. If elderly refuse to vaccinate out of misguided fear - despite all efforts to educate them fail --- mandate compulsory vaccination for their own good and for the good of the community.

Straits Times (23Jul2021) Until and unless vaccination is made compulsory, this elderly group will remain. Is it fair for the country to come to a standstill to cater to a stubborn minority? Earlier this year, the task force said it is not the overall infection numbers, but rather the number who are seriously ill that is important, as this could impact hospital care, or even overwhelm hospital services. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung explained on Facebook the recent decision to tighten measures: "Markets are frequented by seniors, many of whom remain unvaccinated.

128. SK suggest in REACH (19Jul 2021) that Moving forward, measures may  have to discern vaccinated and unvaccinated.

Straits Times (26Jul2021) Singapore MTF to review Covid-19 rules in early August, ease measures for vaccinated people if situation under control. (SK)

129. Post in REACH (28Jul2021) using tree diagram math model and AI predictive simulation model - to predict and forecast the percentage of mass vaccination to defeat covid (Delta variants).

Straits Times (29Jul2021) Straits times 29Jul2021 report 2 NUS public health teams carrying out modeling to predict the number of infection, unvaccinated, partially vaccinated correspond to severe illness and require hospital care.

130. Post in SCMP (25Jul2021) for SuperPowers not to engage in conflict over ideological differences but instead of collaborating on how to tackle global pandemics, climate, economy and other global issues.

SCMP (29Jul2021) Hong Kong tricked into buying US and British myths on freedoms, democracy. America is really an oligarchy and Hongkongers must be wise to the failings of the US system. Hong Kong should adopt a Singapore-style system, which has proved successful when it comes to necessities like housing, health care and pension.
