REACH

[11:11 am, 25/11/2020] +: ๐Ÿ“ข Topic ๐Ÿ“ข

All Singaporeans aged 18 and above will receive S$100 worth of SingapoRediscovers vouchers, which can be used for staycations, attraction tickets and tours.

The vouchers can be redeemed online through five authorised booking partners from Dec 1, with physical counters to be set up across the island to help those in need of assistance.

๐Ÿ’ฌ How are you planning to use your SingaporeRediscovers vouchers?

Eligible products will be marked on the booking platforms with the SingapoRediscovers Vouchers icon, STB said on Monday.

After selecting a product, users will have the option of using the vouchers – which come in denominations of $10 – at the check-out page.

All eligible Singapore citizens will receive a letter by Dec 1 with information about the redemption process.

Berny

[11:14 am, 25/11/2020] +: I know it is a waste of resources, but can a simple letter be sent to all eligible users to briefly tell them how and where to use?

[11:15 am, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Many people find the redemption process on tourism voucher too complicated.

I go through the few websites and also got lost how to book and choose which tourist spots to go and how to do redemption.

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/singapore-consumers-express-concern-over-complicated-tourist-voucher-redemption-process

[11:16 am, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

My close friend comments:-

It would be very difficult for the digital drop out group

Rama

[11:16 am, 25/11/2020] +: Seems not too user friendly!?

[11:17 am, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

I also find it difficult and still have not figured out how to redeem.

Those who are not familiar with internet even worst.

It may end up many will not redeem.

Blue and White Flag Guy

[11:17 am, 25/11/2020] +: Seriously stop ranting about those not included because it's an online thing

Berny

[11:22 am, 25/11/2020] +: Another alternative that I can think of to assist eligible users better, is to have a nice booth with tablet for the users to redeem their vouchers on the spot (could have more cost savings compared to sending out snail mail to all)

Desmond Koh

[11:27 am, 25/11/2020] +: 1 .MAS is regulators not business development... should EDB or ESG or even multi-agencies approach..

2. not MCI, but IMDA, and they are already doing it the SG Digital thingy.

3. MND is a ministry, BCA should be the one to help doing the engagement.. but in terms of $, work pass etc, is a multi-agencies approach..

4. as Kelvin said, no more AVA, F&B got HDB, SFA, STB & NEA, so still multi-agencies approach..

5. STB already doing it.. you might not know, STB's objective is Passion Made Possible and Quality Tourism.

i know you are quoting an example, but need to be realistic on the example :)

Caleb

[11:28 am, 25/11/2020] +: I think will send by 1 Sec.

[11:28 am, 25/11/2020] +: Dec

Desmond Koh

[11:29 am, 25/11/2020] +: https://www.facebook.com/STBsingapore/posts/2151462298317486

i saw this and got very very angry!!

This shows how poorly STB plan out by treating this as yet another tender processes, without thinking the ground sentiments.

A simple online search shows that most partners are not a local company๐Ÿค”

trip.com - China

Klook - Hong-Kong, china

Traveloka - Indonesia

Changi Recommends - SG

GlobalTix - SG

Why are we paying foreign company to manage our rediscover vouchers?

Its common knowledge that middleman have to take a cut!!!

Blue and White Flag Guy

[11:30 am, 25/11/2020] +: Hahaha this one you bring up like recently only and today is topic day ๐Ÿ˜†

Desmond Koh

[11:31 am, 25/11/2020] +: lol

[11:31 am, 25/11/2020] +: DPM Ah Heng said:

“Through the SingapoRediscovers vouchers, we hope to rally Singaporeans to enjoy and appreciate what we have in Singapore, while supporting our tourism sector during this challenging time,” he said.

Caleb

[11:33 am, 25/11/2020] +: Not much local companies does these bah

Blue and White Flag Guy

[11:33 am, 25/11/2020] +: But I agree with the article guy comment on integrating everything into a STB platform

Alvin

[11:35 am, 25/11/2020] +: ๐Ÿคญ

Rama

[11:37 am, 25/11/2020] +: Government is indifferent to the problem! Just get going without proper understanding!

Phyllis

[11:37 am, 25/11/2020] +: Rejoice rejoice!

Caleb

[11:37 am, 25/11/2020] +: As it's inbound travel

Desmond Koh

[11:42 am, 25/11/2020] +: after complaining, i realised, there's only 3 mths and the 5 selected agencies is awarded via open tender..

[11:42 am, 25/11/2020] +: something is wrong with the Klook tender price haha

[11:43 am, 25/11/2020] +: u can see all the tender pricing online via https://www.gebiz.gov.sg

Blue and White Flag Guy

[11:43 am, 25/11/2020] +: Changi also $1

Desmond Koh

[11:45 am, 25/11/2020] +: i think changi is really doing for free! just getting the admin fees from hotels lor

[11:45 am, 25/11/2020] +: klook, sneaky HK guy ๐Ÿ˜“

Blue and White Flag Guy

[11:45 am, 25/11/2020] +: Oh cuz alternate!

Ken

[11:46 am, 25/11/2020] +: Don’t understand

Desmond Koh

[11:47 am, 25/11/2020] +: main bid, Klook showing $1, like mak chaim doing CSR

[11:47 am, 25/11/2020] +: but in alternate bid, they putting cost inside..

Ken

[11:48 am, 25/11/2020] +: Oh... I get you now... oh well alternative ways to get attention. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿป‍♂️

Desmond Koh

[11:48 am, 25/11/2020] +: thats why i said sneaky HK guys!!

[11:48 am, 25/11/2020] +: Klook from Hong Kong BTW

Alvin

[11:54 am, 25/11/2020] +: i think the most important thing is for the vouchers to be spent on local companies

Desmond Koh

[11:54 am, 25/11/2020] +: We need end of the day remember, on 1st Dec when we redeem the vouchers, remember many of the STB ppl probably worked blood sweat tears and likely wanna throw letter to give us the $100 ๐Ÿ˜“

rant is rant but need to appreciate them end of the day

Caleb

[11:55 am, 25/11/2020] +: ๐Ÿ‘

Alvin

[11:55 am, 25/11/2020] +: ๐Ÿ’ฌ How are you planning to use your SingaporeRediscovers vouchers?

There is going to be a xiasuay rush for using the vouchers in Dec 2020. Will avoid it and probably utilize it next year.

Maybe will use in May or Jun 2021. Hopefully will be less crowd then.

Caleb

[11:56 am, 25/11/2020] +: Ya. Me too?

Berny

[0:02 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I plan to use it during off peak hours:

1. Cheaper rates.

2. No crowd lesser covid chance

Alvin

[0:04 pm, 25/11/2020] +: This ☝๐Ÿป

[0:04 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I under parents want to use it during sch hols but the crowds in shopping malls recently is crowded af

Anne

[0:18 pm, 25/11/2020] +: They normally go to CC to ask for help. CC staff will help them on the spot.

[0:27 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

To simplify the redemption process, ideally:-

1 central website showing 5 vendor package :-

Each vendor will list the tourist spots and their f&b, hotel etc

Eg. I want to go sentosa and marina garden by the bay.I will look at the 5 vendor package that offer the 2 tourist spots via singpass.

Eg. Vendor A offer sentosa, then I click on sentosa to redeem say $30 for entry into the various attractions.

Then I click $10 for a food outlets.

Then when I am done I click redeem button.

Next I go to vendor C that offer garden by the bay.

I tick this item $15 for entry fee.

Then I click a restaurant $50 for dinner.

Then I click redeem.

The above suggestions will greatly simplifies the redemption process.

Blue and White Flag Guy

[0:33 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I don't even plan to use it lol just stay home and sleep lah sial rather than kena infected for no reason because of some unnecessary hype again ๐Ÿ˜‚

[0:37 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

MacDonald booth online ordering is an example of very easy to use menu driven apps.

If STB can quickly develop such online website for smartphones or laptop access - then redemption will be a breeze.

Desmond Koh

[0:55 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I give u 3 mths to do it, including open tender for an one off event ok?

[0:59 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Why me?

[1:00 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Why not you!

Phyllis

[1:00 pm, 25/11/2020] +: ๐Ÿ›Ž️๐Ÿ›Ž️๐Ÿ›Ž️

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:00 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I got new sticker

Alvin

[1:01 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Poh Mata liao

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:01 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I got road sign sticker also

[1:01 pm, 25/11/2020] +: To tell you to

Alvin

[1:01 pm, 25/11/2020] +: ๐Ÿคญ

Desmond Koh

[1:01 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Hahah cos u suggested the stuff like very easy ๐Ÿ™‚

[1:02 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

If want to do, do a proper job.

[1:03 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

If not don't do.

Berny

[1:03 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Desmond is right though, if its so easy to do a proper job within a short time frame with limited resources, you do and show them how to do

Desmond Koh

[1:03 pm, 25/11/2020] +: ๐Ÿ˜…

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:03 pm, 25/11/2020] +: ่ฏดๅพ—ๅฎนๆ˜“,ๅšๅพ—้šพ

[1:03 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Then look like the standard has drop.

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:04 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Unless you're there to constantly guide them to do whatever it is they do, you can't really do anything about it

Berny

[1:04 pm, 25/11/2020] +: This one is an adhoc emergency project leh

[1:04 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Because the people employ has low standard.

Alvin

[1:04 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Lol

Berny

[1:04 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Its not some planned event

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:04 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Hanor

Berny

[1:04 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Its not like gst voucher or u save

Phyllis

[1:05 pm, 25/11/2020] +: HOR.

[1:05 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

And finding excuse for low standard.

Alvin

[1:05 pm, 25/11/2020] +: My close friend comment: empty vessels make the most noise

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:05 pm, 25/11/2020] +: r00d hor

Berny

[1:05 pm, 25/11/2020] +: U do and show lor

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:05 pm, 25/11/2020] +: HAHAHAHA

[1:05 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Then why need people to feedback.

Alvin

[1:05 pm, 25/11/2020] +: He say it’s easier to talk than action

Berny

[1:06 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I believe the goal is to save jobs now, not to give incentives

[1:06 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Feedback is ok and good, I agree

Alvin

[1:06 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Not enough of credit given to people doing their jobs right now

[1:06 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Many people find the redemption process on tourism voucher too complicated.

I go through the few websites and also got lost how to book and choose which tourist spots to go and how to do redemption.

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/singapore-consumers-express-concern-over-complicated-tourist-voucher-redemption-process

Berny

[1:06 pm, 25/11/2020] +: But this sentence isnt

[1:06 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Look at the public feedback.

Rama

[1:07 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Is the relevant authorities listening!?

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:07 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Is like if train breakdown, everyone got their own comments but which ones are truly useful??

[1:07 pm, 25/11/2020] +: If you really got concrete counterproposal, let the respective party know

Alvin

[1:09 pm, 25/11/2020] +: But easy to criticize their process when it’s harder to come out with better plan.

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:09 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Ya exactly

Complain doesn't help if you don't come up with better alternative or even better, guide them along the process

[1:09 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

To simplify the redemption process, ideally:-

1 central website showing 5 vendor package :-

The above suggestions will greatly simplifies the redemption process.

Desmond Koh

[1:10 pm, 25/11/2020] +: This is offensive to all the 146k public officers..

[1:10 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Is this suggestion or complain?

Caleb

[1:10 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Abit hard to change the process now

[1:10 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Now is how to educate for all to know how to redeem

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:10 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Ya ah learn to adapt

Caleb

[1:10 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Gov, ur info better be on website.

Berny

[1:11 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Like send snail mail, or have ipad booth on site

[1:11 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Look at news report and ask yourself.

Caleb

[1:11 pm, 25/11/2020] +: And not from newspaper website.

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:11 pm, 25/11/2020] +: If cannot change whole thing, try change what can be changed rather than dwelling on the stuff that can't be changed anymore

REACH

[1:11 pm, 25/11/2020] +: PSLE results: 98.4% of students can progress to secondary school

For the fifth consecutive year, 98.4 per cent of Primary 6 students who sat for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) made it to secondary school.

A total of 39,995 candidates sat for the PSLE this year, of which 39,361 students were assessed suitable to progress to secondary school, the Ministry of Education (MOE) and Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB) said in a press release on Wednesday (Nov 25).

More: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/psle-results-scores-primary-secondary-school-moe-seab-13635194

Alvin

[1:11 pm, 25/11/2020] +: There is not unifying platform for this and STB gave their justification if I recall correctly

Berny

[1:12 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Reach better pull up your socks hor, your standard has dropped

Desmond Koh

[1:12 pm, 25/11/2020] +: ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:13 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I think while REACH's function is to collate feedback, we the citizens pledge ourselves as one united people must know our inlets and outlets too

Berny

[1:16 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I think there are more considerations during the planning stage la, just that certain stuff are harder to qualify

[1:16 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I honestly dont think govt sector will do things hastily without considering about the potential or future repercussions.

[1:17 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

If a public officer do a lousy job and do soul searching - and yet try to find excuses to justify his work -. Then  I question has the standard drop?

Desmond Koh

[1:17 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Don say that, later he will said TT is a rush work lol

[1:18 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

This is very serious - as our civil service is of very high standard!

Berny

[1:18 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Keyword is "a", we cannot throw a sweeping statement because of that few bad apples

[1:18 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Agree.

I feel that there are some bad apples around

Berny

[1:18 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Look at how many bust ICA made to stop smuggles, look at our healthcare workers working round the clock

Desmond Koh

[1:19 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Sorry This is a comment not a question

Berny

[1:19 pm, 25/11/2020] +: To say standard drop is a very unfair statement

[1:19 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Based on all the statement make here, it give the impression.

Berny

[1:20 pm, 25/11/2020] +: So healthcare should worker harder

[1:20 pm, 25/11/2020] +: And ica should bust more smuggle cases?

[1:20 pm, 25/11/2020] +: If you say STB standard drop, yes, I may agree that it is fair

[1:21 pm, 25/11/2020] +: But a sweeping statement on all public servant is just unfair and uncalled for

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:21 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Won't be surprised lol

Berny

[1:22 pm, 25/11/2020] +: But it is a rush work isnt it? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

[1:22 pm, 25/11/2020] +: At least theres a goal, and they tried their best to work towards it

Blue and White Flag Guy

[1:22 pm, 25/11/2020] +: If really so rush will we dare to let the world use it?

[1:23 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

I hold very high regard for our civil service and our Ministers.

But if there are people who justify poor jobs for public service, then we will need to raise this to the attention to COPS and the Ministers.

Berny

[1:23 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Please do

[1:23 pm, 25/11/2020] +: You need the minister's email?

Desmond Koh

[1:29 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Go to COPS first ๐Ÿ˜€

Council Of Perm Sec

[1:30 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Btw civil service is inside public services ๐Ÿ™‚

[1:30 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Can also submit pre-cab papers too ๐Ÿ˜‡

REACH

[2:08 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Singapore needs to manage risks, not eliminate them, in reopening for travel: Chan Chun Sing

Singapore needs to manage the risks – not eliminate them entirely – as the country prepares to reopen for travel, Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing said on Wednesday (Nov 25).

"Shutting ourselves off from the world is not an option," Mr Chan said in a speech at the TravelRevive trade show. "Singapore is unable to tap on a large local population or domestic travel to sustain our tourism sector."

[2:22 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Mine no reach yet

[2:22 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Only got the free seeds from nparks

Desmond Koh

[2:24 pm, 25/11/2020] +: "Asked why there is no unified booking platform, the spokesman explained that it was because the different booking platforms have different focuses and commercial terms.

Booking sites are expected to promote a diversity of merchants, the tourism board said, adding that listing arrangements will be worked out directly between platforms and merchants."

Blue and White Flag Guy

[2:24 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I send a pic of mine

Caleb

[2:26 pm, 25/11/2020] +: think also good, so PR and other ppl can also goto the platform and buy these packages

[2:26 pm, 25/11/2020] +: pay using cash

[2:26 pm, 25/11/2020] +: so in a sense, the zoo all these can use these platforms to advertise

Alvin

[2:26 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I 100% agree with STB

Caleb

[2:27 pm, 25/11/2020] +: for long term investment lor

Alvin

[2:27 pm, 25/11/2020] +: why need to be so draconian and force all merchants onto one platform

[2:27 pm, 25/11/2020] +: like that their offerings, t&c all have to follow

Blue and White Flag Guy

[2:27 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Lai, sorry needed to censor address if not later someone cross the road harass me

Caleb

[2:27 pm, 25/11/2020] +: ya, so merchants can offer in all 5 platforms

Alvin

[2:27 pm, 25/11/2020] +: i prefer to have more own choice which one is best and spend my vouchers there

[2:28 pm, 25/11/2020] +: use bus bang you :3

Kevin

[2:29 pm, 25/11/2020] +65 9236 9570: Why need to put cert there :3

[2:30 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Ya

[2:31 pm, 25/11/2020] +: CPF also got send mail, something about Yearly Statement of Account (YSOA) going digital

[2:31 pm, 25/11/2020] +: So can expect your mailbox to be quite crowded later when you go open ๐Ÿ˜‚

[2:40 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

I suggest STB conduct a public survey to get feedback from the public - what they think of this tourism vouchers.

Is it easy to use?

Do they know how to use it?

Will they use it?

STB will then have a good grasp of what the public think.

To date many people I come across whether through private chat group or people I talk to - think that current form is poorly implemented and none have a clue how to redeem

Caleb

[2:41 pm, 25/11/2020] +: letter coming

Berny

[2:41 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Implement already then do survey doesnt make sense imo

Caleb

[2:41 pm, 25/11/2020] +: relax

Blue and White Flag Guy

[2:41 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Mai gong labbish la

[2:41 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Just read

[2:46 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

What STB think is not important.

What the users think is more important.

Because users used it not STB.

If most users is at a loss on how to used it, then shouldn't STB do something to rectify it?

Else even how good the policy is, if poorly implemented - will end up as a failure.

Rama

[2:49 pm, 25/11/2020] +: STB must seriously take into consideration public discourse with this process.

Alvin

[2:49 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Bro we got high standards one hokay? ISO2001 standard ok? Measly letter so troublesome leh

Blue and White Flag Guy

[2:50 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I wonder why must send individually though, waste paper

Should just send one per household as long as at least 1 qualify

Caleb

[2:51 pm, 25/11/2020] +: family dont share info with 1 another

[2:51 pm, 25/11/2020] +: later kanna complain

Blue and White Flag Guy

[2:51 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Oh that one we discuss before

But really ah if your family got such issue, is your own issue sia

Caleb

[2:52 pm, 25/11/2020] +: now is complain not eco friendly. lol

Blue and White Flag Guy

[2:52 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Is true what, 3 people same household receive same paper

Caleb

[2:52 pm, 25/11/2020] +: with letter, I think ppl will still flood to the physical counter to redeem

Alvin

[2:53 pm, 25/11/2020] +: My closest friend say that it’s better to let us choose which provider and platform we wanna use to redeem the vouchers that not many choices at all in one single platform

Blue and White Flag Guy

[2:53 pm, 25/11/2020] +: ๐Ÿ˜‚

[3:00 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

I have tested using tracetogether token today everywhere I go.

I am pleased that I can use the token to do SafeEntry in almost every place without the need to dish out my hp to scan QR code and IC.

I am pleased that the government has improved with leap and bound to implement a system that is safe and easy to use.

This is the high standard I expect from the civil service.

Blue and White Flag Guy

[3:00 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Tiagong this is called bootlicking

[3:00 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Those store which do not have a scanner use their handphone to scan my token QR code.

Blue and White Flag Guy

[3:01 pm, 25/11/2020] +: The real standard you don't have to expect is when you PM one of the guys here for help with the TT, he gladly help you with it

[3:03 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

For system that is implemented well - good is good.

For system not implemented well, people feedback, must be humble to listen and improve.

And not find excuses.

This is what is expected from a civil service who serve with good conscience and pride.

Alvin

[3:05 pm, 25/11/2020] +: It’s true bro, my closest friend likes to have the choice. Imagine gov unify on single platform but boring tour package choices. Like that even more ppl will complain and the merchants won’t be happy too. End up you harm more than you help. But that is his 2.15 cents plus custom charges lah

[3:23 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Anyone have a clue how to redeem the voucher based on this 5 website?

Caleb

[3:24 pm, 25/11/2020] +: 1 Dec then start ma

[3:25 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Then this 5 website better brush up by 1 Dec.

If by 1 Dec still this standard, then the policy fail!

Alvin

[4:48 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Can I ask, have everyone here gotten their TT token ah?

[4:59 pm, 25/11/2020] +: ur data of "kissing" other tokens

Blue and White Flag Guy

[4:59 pm, 25/11/2020] +: But that's not exactly valuable data either so I guess only those itchy hands will physically hack it open lol

Berny

[5:03 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I only pray hard that when my bt is hacked, the hacker can help to delete my browsing history before using whatever info they need

YT

[5:05 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Why? What have you been browsing? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Berny

[5:05 pm, 25/11/2020] +: some stuff are better left unknown, but if you really want to know, i'm browsing YouTube during office hours

Desmond Koh

[5:06 pm, 25/11/2020] +: my closest friend said, should use the desktop better :)

[5:07 pm, 25/11/2020] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

So hope REACH can raise this topic again on 1 Dec - and see whether people can plan how to use the tourism voucher.

Alvin

[5:07 pm, 25/11/2020] +: I see 2 potential problems in Dec 2020.

1) TraceTogether Token/App

This one if mandatory overnight will likely cause some panic for a rush to get the tokens. Hacking issues aside, there will be chaos at Mall entrances and places where massive crowds are expected during festive season. This will likely occur for the first few days it is implemented and taper off slowly.

2) Rediscover Vouchers

Usages or confusions aside, there will likely be a mad rush to redeem them as well. Expect some teething issues for the first few weeks in Dec and places where vouchers are spent at will likely draw huge crowds too. Might want to have some ambassadors at those areas to assist with the check in etc. Some merchant sites might crashed, I hope they have the necessary infra in place to support the spike. Hope they are on the cough cloud cough.

Desmond Koh

[5:08 pm, 25/11/2020] +: haha those at CC/RC might be volunteer, also need to wait for OJT then know how to use it..

[5:09 pm, 25/11/2020] +: +1

[5:10 pm, 25/11/2020] +: knowing that can ransom you more $$ hahaha

Blue and White Flag Guy

[5:10 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Is all about the unnecessary hype lor

Gahmen needs to cushion the impact

Alvin

[5:12 pm, 25/11/2020] +: the only reason for this is cos everyone is in Singapore

[5:12 pm, 25/11/2020] +: otherwise they would have travelled overseas and less of an issue

Blue and White Flag Guy

[5:12 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Not just that, but because people are still not that socially responsible

Alvin

[5:13 pm, 25/11/2020] +: since all stuck in Sg, they will go out everyday to compensate for not able to travel

[5:13 pm, 25/11/2020] +: hence expect them

Blue and White Flag Guy

[5:13 pm, 25/11/2020] +: So stay home when these opposite of homesick people are outsai lol

Alvin

[5:16 pm, 25/11/2020] +: it's called wanderlust bro

[5:16 pm, 25/11/2020] +: opposite of homesick is wanderlust

Blue and White Flag Guy

[5:17 pm, 25/11/2020] +: Wanderlust sounds too fanciful

[5:17 pm, 25/11/2020] +: And I'm sick of these people ๐Ÿ˜‚

Singapore among world's most competitive, pro-business economies, public sector report shows

COVID-19 office workers Raffles Place (9)

SINGAPORE: Even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Economic Development Board (EDB) managed to secure S$13 billion worth of fixed asset investment commitments in the first four months of 2020.

That was among the highest in recent years, and reflected businesses’ confidence in Singapore’s “high levels of connectivity, openness, and brand of trust”, according to the latest public sector report released on Thursday (Nov 26).

It was one example showing how Singapore continues to be among the most competitive and pro-business economies in the world, according to the Singapore Public Sector Outcomes Review (SPOR).

The report, which is coordinated by the Ministry of Finance every two years, looks at how the public sector and Singapore have fared in key areas of national interest.

Singapore has “sound economic fundamentals” and remains an “attractive location” for businesses to grow and invest, the report said.

It cited real gross domestic product growth of 2.9 per cent a year and labour productivity growth of 2.5 per cent per a year from 2014 to 2019, as well as high regard internationally for the country’s business environment and workforce.

Singapore was ranked among the world’s most competitive economies by the World Economic Forum in 2019, and by the International Institute for Management Development (IIMD) in 2020. This year, it was also the only Asian country in the top 10 of the IIMD’s world talent ranking.

“Singaporeans remain resilient and competitive in the workforce, able to tap new job opportunities,” the report said.

READ: IN FOCUS – After COVID-19, where are the Singapore economy, workforce headed?

“They are assisted by a wide range of support including Adapt and Grow, SkillsFuture and other employment support schemes as well as initiatives to ensure fair consideration for Singaporean jobseekers.”

As of August, the SGUnited Jobs and Skills Package to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic has made 117,500 opportunities available, with more than 33,000 placed, according to the report.

Between 2014 and 2019, more than 100,000 jobseekers were placed in jobs through Adapt and Grow, and more than 14,500 reskilled to take on new jobs through Place-and-Train programmes, it added.

SEIZING BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES

Singapore businesses have been “looking beyond immediate challenges and preparing to seize longer-term opportunities by harnessing growth in Asia, going digital and promoting innovation”, the report also said.

This could be seen in the 37 per cent increase (over five years) in direct investment into Southeast Asia by Singapore-based companies. Most of the 600 projects that Enterprise Singapore facilitated globally last year were in China and Southeast Asia, the report added.

It noted that 216,000 business have registered for PayNow Corporate and are now able to send and receive e-payments instantly.

The report also highlighted an increase in business expenditure on research and development, at a compound annual growth rate of 3 per cent from 2014 to 2018, as well as sales revenue from the commercialisation of R&D rising from S$25.2 billion a year to S$31.8 billion a year over the same period

EASE OF DOING BUSINESS

Singapore also continued to be highly regarded as a place to do business, the report said. This year, the country ranked second in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business Index, after consistently placing in the top three for the past 14 years.

The country also did well in two other indicators, placing fourth in the world for starting a business and first in the world for enforcing contracts, according to the report.

“Streamlined regulations and improved government to business (G2B) services make it easy to start and grow a business, as well as pursue innovation. It takes only 1.5 days to start a business in Singapore,” the report said.

The country also ranked first in digital infrastructure in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Asian Digital Transformation Index 2018, and has built “a robust foundation of strong digital connectivity over the years”, according to the report.

It said that “improved and secure digital connectivity” was underway, including the Networked Trade Platform, which functions as a single window for all customs- and trade-related services, as well as cybersecurity enhancements and 5G trials.

A majority of businesses and citizens, at 77 per cent and 86 per cent respectively, also described themselves as “very or extremely satisfied” with the quality of government e-services last year, according to the report.

Singaporeans now enjoy more ready access to digital government services such as through the LifeSG app, the report added.

“POCKETS OF RESILIENCE”

Noting that Singapore’s economy is expected to shrink between 6 per cent and 6.5 per cent this year, the report said this reflected a “sharp deterioration in the domestic and global economic environment” caused by COVID-19.

“Nonetheless, there remain pockets of resilience in Singapore’s economy such as biomedical manufacturing, and information and communications and media,” said the report.

“With our openness to talent and respect for fair consideration, Singapore remains an attractive hub where businesses can build their best teams and create good jobs for Singaporeans,” it added.

“Singapore stands on strong economic fundamentals that will help us to rebound from this crisis and capture new opportunities.”

SINGAPORE: The life expectancy of Singaporeans is among the highest in the world at 81.4 and 85.7 for men and women respectively in 2019, according to the latest public sector report released on Thursday (Nov 26).

The Singapore Public Sector Outcomes Review, which is published every two years, also touched on COVID-19, saying that the pandemic has fostered a “strong spirit of care and concern” for one another.

The report, prepared by the Ministry of Finance, shows how Singapore has fared in key areas of national interest with data covering up to 2019 in most cases.

According to the report, the health adjusted life expectancy at birth for Singaporeans is also one of the highest in the world. Measuring the number of years a person is expected to live in good health, the expectancy is 72.6 for men and 75.8 for women in 2017.

Mortality rates in Singapore due to cancer, stroke and heart diseases have also reduced over the years, said the report.

However, about one in three residents aged 40 to 69 has hypertension, one in seven has diabetes and two in five have high cholesterol.

“We will need to strengthen our efforts to tackle these chronic conditions and continue to build a strong health ecosystem that empowers Singaporeans to live healthy lives,” said the report.

COVID-19 FOSTERED SENSE OF COMMUNITY AMONG EACH OTHER

While COVID-19 has affected many aspects of life, it has also brought about a strong sense of community among Singaporeans, said the report.

More than 28,000 grassroots, public service and citizen volunteers helped in the nationwide mask collection exercises, while more than 1,500 grassroots leaders and volunteers had taken on roles as safe distancing ambassadors.

Individuals have also taken personal responsibility to abide by the national public health measures, said the report. For example, the TraceTogether app covers more than 50 per cent of the population, with more than 2.9 million app and token users as of November.

The report said that Singaporeans have shown “everyday acts of care” including via SGUnited, a digital portal for people to contribute toward the national response to COVID-19.

Between January and May this year, a total of S$90 million was donated to the Community Chest, the Community Foundation of Singapore’s Sayang Sayang Fund, as well as through the SG Cares app and Giving.sg donation platform.

Head of civil service Leo Yip said that this year’s report recognised the partnership between the government and people in the collective fight against COVID-19.

“Working together has enabled us to serve those in need and overcome this crisis as one.

“Whether in crisis or in normalcy, the Public Service will continue to strive for better outcomes for our citizens and our businesses,” said Mr Yip.

90% OF HOUSEHOLD LIVE WITHIN 10-MINUTE WALK FROM A PARK

With around 90 per cent of households in Singapore living within a 10-minute walk from a park, Singapore is among one of the world’s greenest and most liveable cities, said the report.

Seventy per cent of households are also within a 10-minute walk from a train station, it said.

There is affordable and accessible public housing, with 80 per cent of resident households living in Housing and Development Board flats, with 90 per cent owning their own homes.

For families buying their first flat, they can use the Enhanced CPF Housing Grant of up to S$80,000, on top of the subsidised price of the flat. A first-timer family buying a resale flat can also get total housing grants of up to S$160,000.

The report also highlighted that towns are more technology-enabled and sustainable through features such as smart utility meters and lights.

“These features will not only lower utility bills, but also allow Singaporeans to contribute to sustainable living,” it said, noting that areas like the Jurong Lake District and Punggol Digital District would bring jobs closer to home.

Singapore’s transport network is also “convenient, reliable and accessible”, said the report.

With Singapore progressing towards the goal of 20-minute towns within a 45-minute city, this means that people can walk, cycle, or ride to the nearest neighbourhood centre within 20 minutes and complete most peak-period journeys between their homes and workplaces within 45 minutes
