As we enter Phase 2 of the post-Circuit Breaker period on 19 June, what are some of the precautions you plan to continue with in your daily routines?
On Monday, the multi-ministry task force announced that phase 2 of reopening will begin on Friday, 19 June. More businesses and social activities will be allowed to resume, although some precautionary measures will remain in place.
Minister of Health Gan Kim Yong noted that the number of community cases over the past two weeks have remained stable. Cases within the migrant worker dormitories are also witnessing a decline. No new large clusters are emerging as well.

Hope singaporeans will follow the regulations so we can prevent surge in cases

Precaution in Phase 2 that must continue to exercise :-
(1) Wear face mask once outside (cannot compromise on this).
(2) Wash hands with soap or sanitizer if touch anything.
(3) Maintain social distance of 1 metre whenever possible.
(4) Avoid crowded places.
(5) Scan SafeEntry when visiting any mall outside.
(6) Wait for contract tracer token and carry it around if outside.
(7) Work from home as far as possible.

[6:55 pm, 17/06/2020] : Like many learned friends here, I will also stay home at least for the first few weeks. I would expect many people to be rushing to go out because they're getting cabin fever. Not about to rush to join the crowd yet. Wait until the craze dies down before I start making plans to go out. Even then, still still try to keep it to a minimum.
Benefits of being an introvert bordering on hermit life. ✌🏻

[7:11 pm, 17/06/2020] : No changeb8n routine.
I'm sure people will chiong to eateries
I would rather tabao back home or home cooked to avoid over crowding. I find that it is still unsafe to wander around esp some ppls do not exercise their social responsibility.
These 2 weeks, alr saw 3 uncles seated side by side with mask at their chin level at the bench. Some ppls loiter around, gg to carpark at void deck are not wearing mask.
Students also with mask not cover their mask walked in a group.
Touch words if they ever tested positive, they should bear the full cost.

[7:19 pm, 17/06/2020] : To add on.
Not to rush to join the crowd. Hope the non essential outlet esp the budget shop or popular bookshop of open also implement limited entry ppls to go in. Ensure they scan the QR code upon gg in and Che k out.
I would rather wait till July or go during non peak hr then cut my hair, buy my toiletries etc.... Rather to be safe than sorry.

1. Observe safe distance
2. Use TraceTogether
3. Avoid crowd
4. Stay home whenever possible
5. Always maintain  personal hygiene

Which part of Senior Minister Tharman’s speech was the most meaningful for you?
As we adapt and adjust to Phase 2 of the post Circuit Breaker, how can we continue to care for the vulnerable among us?

Alvin
[7:53 pm, 17/06/2020] : The part where he said “no Singaporean who’s willing to learn shouldn’t be given the opportunity, no Singaporean who’s willing to adapt should be overqualified” resonates with me.
[7:54 pm, 17/06/2020] : I also think the reason why many Singaporeans are unwilling to take up temporary or lower paying jobs after they are laid off is due to our HR practises.

WilonLeong
[7:55 pm, 17/06/2020] : Everyone is give. A chance to move up the ladder even Low income person. He/she will get help to study if they want

Alvin
[7:55 pm, 17/06/2020] : Local HR practices look at last drawn salary. So if a local is considering to take a lower paying job, he will know he will not be able to attain his last drawn salary amount for at least x number of years.

SL
[7:55 pm, 17/06/2020] : Replaced with cheaper, potential and younger workforce?

Alvin
[7:56 pm, 17/06/2020] : This might put off locals from taking temp gigs
[7:56 pm, 17/06/2020] : If the gov is sincere, legislative HR practices and not allow them to ask for last drawn salary.
[7:57 pm, 17/06/2020] : Salary packages should be coming from them that is pegged to an industry standard.
[7:57 pm, 17/06/2020] : My 2.14 cents

Leonard Lau
[7:57 pm, 17/06/2020] : Most of the time .. it’s ego and stigma caused the problem when people refuse to take a lower pay  or temp job

SL
[7:58 pm, 17/06/2020] : Is the Existing commitment of applicant and the hr practice of doubting the interviewee capability of taking up contract work? Influenced the hiring rate

[8:02 pm, 17/06/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
"No Singaporean who is willing to learn should be 'too old' to hire. And no one who is willing to adapt should be viewed as 'overqualified'," said Mr Tharman,
---
The above 2 statement are the 2 major obstacles that older workers faces in getting re-employment if they are retrenched.
(1) Many employers will look at the age during hiring.
If the hirer is younger than you - chances that the older workers will not get the job - even if the older workers can do the job.

(2) If the hirer look at the track record of the older worker and then the last-drawn salary. (which is usually high) --- the hirer will conclude that the older worker are over-qualified for the jobs - and will not be hired for the job thinking that he will not stay long for the job.

(3) The reason why SM Tharman raise this 2 issues are that --- this is the 2 major reasons why many older mature workers are not hired or difficult to get a job when retrenched.

[9:01 pm, 17/06/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
(1) Older mature workers in their 40s, 50s and 60s - are the most vulnerable groups - as many have school-going children and have elderly parents to feed.

(2) If they lose their jobs (some are even the sole breadwinner) - the whole family will be in a very dire situation - as they will also have financial burden to bear - eg. financing housing loan, study loan, and don't what's else loans...

(3) Thus priorities should be given to these group of older workers - to ensure that if they lose their jobs - all his/her dependants will not go down with undue sufferings.

Which part of Senior Minister Tharman’s speech was the most meaningful for you?
How can we play our part to build a stronger and more cohesive society?
During the national broadcast on "A Stronger and More Cohesive Society”, Senior Minister Tharman reiterated the need to remain united as a society. He also mentioned that Singapore’s future depends on how it’s people overcome challenges together.
Senior Minister Tharman said: “Singapore cannot defy the global economic downturn. But we must absolutely defy the loss of social cohesion, the polarisation and the despair that is taking hold in many other countries.”

[1:13 pm, 18/06/2020] : "The Government is also making a “concerted effort” to help middle-aged and mature Singaporean workers, said Mr Tharman, adding that employers will get extra support when they hire these workers." This is important as we want to see what Government can give to persuade the employers to take on senior employees.

[1:57 pm, 18/06/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
(1) The job situation for the old and mature workers have been a long time issues - not easy to resolve - as there is a need a shift in the mindset not only for the employers but also for the mature workers.

(2) SM Tharman has accurately pointed out the 2 main obstacles for hiring older workers, the mindest of hirers that mature workers are :-
a. Too old
b. Over-qualified (and another implicit factor - high pay)

(3) For hirers to start recruiting mature workers, it is important for Government, Unions to sit down with Employers to address the 2 obstacles in a structured, formalised and transparent manner.
a. Too old - slow but experienced,
- old but healthy,
- younger boss but must have patient with mature workers and important to have empathy (as older workers will have a different disposition as younger workers). Younger boss as managers will need to have good EQ to manage not only younger workers - but also older ones who have different disposition.
- younger boss must look at mature workers as "steady pair of hands" - able to do the work

b. Over-qualified
- older workers will have a long-track record and belts of experience behind him or her (and also older practices that may not be in synch with newer practices).
Thus younger boss must have good IQ and EQ - to be able to amplified the mature workers experience to bring good outcomes to the jobs and sieve out - outdated practices.

- I am sure mature workers can work well with the younger boss and the Employers - by being realistic, adaptable and ability to mix well with the culture of the new boss and companies - if give chances.

- Mature workers have "steady hands" - and know what can be done and what cannot be done --- as they are usually street-smart --- having taken knocks through so many years of experience.

- If younger boss is able to have "listening ears" --- I am sure the new ways of doing work by infusing the steady pair of hands from the older workers --- will be a formidable combination that make the work and project outcome much better.

(1) Ultimately, everyone will get old one day.

(2) The younger boss will also get old one day.

(3) The younger workers will also get old one day.

(4) If the younger bosses and younger workers - don't give a chance to the older mature workers - which could be a father, an uncle ---- then one day, these younger bosses and younger workers will one day get old --- and in return received the same treatment when they get old.

(5) Jack Ma in the video say 3 things :-
- IQ - Intelligent Quotient
- EQ - Emotional Quotient
- LQ - Love Quotient

-- all very relevant to our context in our discussion of helping mature workers to get employment.

- Younger boss must have good IQ --- I will instead must have Wisdom Quotient --- able to see a complete picture and able to see far -- because it will also affect you based on what you do now --- because you will also get old.

- Younger boss must have good EQ - emotional quotient - to have the good management capabilities to manage not only younger workers but also older workers.

- Younger must also have good LQ - love quotient - to be able to extend your compassion to the older workers -- because one day you will also be old - and need the compassion of future younger boss to give you opportunity if you lose your job one day.

(3) Chongqing link to Guangdong and Hainan ports are the West to South BRI links - that come to ASEAN via sea route and to Singapore ports.

(4) By setting up a financial office in Shanghai and leveraging on our RMB conversion centre - we can help to finance the BRI from China West to East and tap on the North Asia market and link up to our Singapore ports --- so that we can help to finance BRI trade through sea route via the Straits of Malacca, we can also tap onto the Arctic sea route that serve the North Asia Countries.
