With GLCs having shares in both Uber and Grab - the 2 of the largest transport apps --- it is a good development for our Economy as both have global and regional footprint

All our taxi operators are now "effectively transformed" from traditional industries into "Digital Economy".

All taxi operators are now operating in 2 platform - traditional taxi service plus transport apps (digital economy) - and offer good market competition - which will benefit consumers.

This will put to rest the worries of taxi uncles and aunties who are fearful of losing their rice bowl to Uber or Grab.

Now they are part of Uber or Grab.

However, future autonomous driverless vehicles - may pose a challenge to them........

Unless these taxi drivers are able to offer additional value-added or premium services that autonomous driverless vehicle cannot provide.

So part 1 - a good strategic move - cannot beat Uber and Grab, make them your partners.

Now part 2 - autonomous driverless car will be coming and i believe they will come with their apps. What will be the taxi uncles and aunties counter-strategy?

Ricky Lim I dun think we (the consuners) will benefit once these 2 become established duopoly. Now at least Uber is cheaper than Grab.
GLC have a hand in both Grab and Uber. They will fix the price and we will be price taker. The G win again. Suck thumb time.

Henry Sim - Taxi services is a stop-gap, relieve valve - when the Economy undergo a downturn - for people who lose their jobs - to be able to get a "quick job" to sustain their living.

When Grab and Uber comes in - it hit at the very heart of these taxi uncles and aunties -- though it provide opportunity for car owners who lose their jobs.

Now with this strategy, taxi uncles and aunties jobs are assured = even with the threat of disruptive apps.

As for consumers, unlikely duopoloy will prevails - because other than the taxi operators offering uber and grab services, there are private car owners out there providing uber and grab services - and these will provide good competition to the taxi operators.

The future threat is autonomous driverless car --- that the taxi uncles, aunties and private car owners need to worry about.

If can solve this taxi puzzle, then can solve the robotics, AI, disruptive apps from replacing human jobs - in all industries, and sectors.

And no need to adopt protectionism, isolationism, xenophobism.

Hint to the taxi puzzle automation :-

The catch is that there will be an economic standstill whereby there are abundant supply of goods produce by robots.

But there are no demand as there are no human managers and workers earning income to buy products.

Robot producers and towkay go bankrupt.

Triggering a global economic standstill.

----------
There is a need to re-examine the entire economic theory.

The dynamic of allocation of resources, demand and supply, and distribution of wealth.

The social impact, economic impact and the political impact that will hit the human race for the next generation is too great if we cannot solve the impact of taxi puzzle driverless AI that think like man (not automation or mechanization that help human). It replaces human and trigger a worldwide economic standstill.

Welcome to the advent of Asura realm. 阿修罗界。

The availability of bus and MRT - that offer another substitute for commuters - will keep the price of uber, grab taxis and private owners in check - and will not raise price until they price themselves out.

The whole world will do a reset.

Our children, grandchildren start to plant crops and live in a cave.

The concept of economy and exchange of money for trade demise.

Barter trade emerge.

If we can't solve the taxi AI puzzle.
