PM Lee, in his National Day Rally speech this year,  announced that the Government will provide retrenched workers with temporary financial support so they can focus on upgrading their skills for a better long-term job, instead of immediately seizing whatever jobs are offered.

On Thursday (24 Aug), Manpower Minister Tan See Leng added that much of the financial support will also be tied to training and career counselling and guidance. He added that the accelerating pace of transformation has led to initiatives such as identifying areas in major industries where jobs and skills needs are changing.

💬 *What are your thoughts on the financial support measures to help retrenched workers re-enter and remain in the workforce? What more can be done to help older workers keep pace with the changing job landscape?*

Dr Tan stressed that the financial support should not be seen as unemployment insurance but rather, re-employment support for displaced workers to identify industry trends and carefully choose a next job that would be a good fit for them. Dr Tan added that workers will also get help maintaining their “career health” through personalized job and skills recommendations on MyCareersFuture.

Furthermore, to serve as a positive nudge for Singaporeans to remain in the workforce for as long as they can, the Government also announced the Earn and Save Bonus.

📌 *Earn and Save Bonus*

1️⃣ *Who is it for:*

Lower- and middle-income senior workers in full or part time jobs, including self-employed individuals.

2️⃣ *What it entails:* Annual top-up of between $400 and $1,000 credited to Retirement or Special Account, depending on age.

Dr Tan added that the bonus will work in tandem with moves by the partnership between the Government, employers and labour movement to expand the options for flexible work arrangements so that more can rejoin and remain in the workforce.

“The key thing is to empower you... with the option that should you want to continue working because of your experiential wisdom, we want to be there to support you. What we want to do is to put a positive momentum to it, and that is because we are going to become a ‘super-aged’ society,” said Dr Tan.

So not all in this age group get something which many people think otherwise.

Some people in the Majullah package "got nothing". <This message was edited>

25/08/2023, 12:06 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

Thought at least a Majullah card for everyone with some discount in NTUC grocery purchase - will be "an ice in the cake".

At least, all in these age group feel that "we are recognised in nation building" - just like the pioneer and merdeka groups.

25/08/2023, 12:15 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

Else it will be Majullah in name but nothing in substance.

A Majullah cards, at least you can whip out, flash and used - and each time,

We can remember - "Ah... we are from the Majullah generation, sweat in Army, respond to Open mob, do 13 cycle of reservists, go through the up and down in economic crisis, take CPF and pay cut during a very severe downturn, making sacrifices....

Now we are old, and we are told we are the Majullah generation - in name only. (For the 2 / 10).

But no Majullah card as a token to recognise our sacrifice and contributions.

Am I cheapskate to ask just for a little token?🤔

But even if we are able to be self-sufficient, a pat on the back, or a stroke - will warm the heart ❤️ mah... <This message was edited>

Well, when I give angpows during Chinese New year, I leave no one behind.

Besides giving to my son, all my nephew and niece (including married ones), I also give angpows to the maids. Because the maids take good care of my elderly parents and cook for my parents and my siblings families.

I want to thanks them for taking good care of my loved ones.

I want to ensure "Leave no one behind".

It is the thoughts in the heart ❤️.

Yes some are rich and doing well.

But it is the gesture - that I put you in my heart. <This message was edited>

My brother say, married niece no need according to Chinese tradition.

I say, never mind, I not only give angpows to the married niece, but also her husband.

Because I want to convey my thoughts, that even you both are married, working, I will still give both angpows - because I want to leave no one behind.

You are still in my ❤️ heart.

25/08/2023, 12:33 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

So if Singapore ethos is to "Leave no one behind".

Then why leave the last 2/10 behind?

The 2/10 also breed in Singapore.

Why leave us behind?

25/08/2023, 12:58 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

Forgot to mention that I also give angpow to my wife.

For all her contributions and love to my families.

25/08/2023, 1:26 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

My close friend comments:

Is the discount a kind gesture by supermarkets of gov subsidies?

My comments :

I think so.

But assume $5 per month per card.

1 million people x $60 = $60 million a year.

But it go very far to forge social cohesion among all Singaporeans.

A very powerful message "We leave no one behind". <This message was edited>

25/08/2023, 1:30 pm - +~L: Youngest generation grew up with technology boom - free, easy to use, prevalent and consumable.... not good grounding for a hard working, problem solving approach to life.

Just see people on the phones everywhere watching videos or playing games....

25/08/2023, 1:32 pm - +~L: Older generation rolls up its sleeves and has a lot of experience to draw from.

Older generation combined with AI are very productive.

Younger generation with AI don't know what questions to ask, or how to judge the results.

25/08/2023, 1:33 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

It is the soft aspects to problem solving not just $ and cents.

It come with the heart ❤️.

25/08/2023, 1:33 pm - +~L: If older generation start to bypass the younger generation, eg no need for Junior Lawyers, Accountants then how to the younger generation get the experience?

25/08/2023, 1:36 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

Yes.

Nurturing, counselling, coaching, and allowing the young to grow in a wholesome manner.

Always remember this word "Empathy".

Take care of ourselves.

But remember, also always take care of others.

If a solution you can accept, then use the same solution for others.

If a solution we cannot accept, don't push it to others.

This is "Empathy".

Ability to sit in our shoes.

Then reverse, ability to sit others' shoes.

25/08/2023, 1:40 pm - +Kenneth Lee WM: So gov got more to give the 8/10 who really need it mah.

But I do hope the quasi gov controlled NTUC can give something to everyone. They are supposed to be the low price market setters but they are making profits !!!!!  They can afford to have less profits.

25/08/2023, 1:45 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

It is not about who give or give how much.

I think if announce that we will target the Majullah generation to recognise the sacrifice and contributions of this generation.

As government budget is tight, we will focus on the lower and middle income groups.

But we will have something for everyone - in the ethos of "leave no one behind".

A token Majullah cards for everyone in this age group as recognition for nation building.

How much in the cards never mind - at least we know the government has put us in their ❤️.

25/08/2023, 1:47 pm - +~L: I think the top 20% are not being left behind, they are the ones ahead. Or am I missing something?

25/08/2023, 1:47 pm - +~L: but yes, maybe a sliding scale is a good idea, and a nice gesture for 'everyone in it together'

25/08/2023, 1:48 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

Imagine if you have 4 kids at home, but pat and stroke the 3 younger kids and never pat or stroke the elder kid (who work day and night) to finance the family.

Then isn't it a kind gesture to pat and stroke the elder kid as well?

25/08/2023, 1:48 pm - +~L: I don't want the government to pat and stroke me, and I don't want to be treated like a kid....

25/08/2023, 1:49 pm - ☸️  Danny 心: Hahaha....

25/08/2023, 1:50 pm - +Kenneth Lee WM: Well at least have $4.50 movie ticket 🙂

Once hit 60, have cheap transport, $1 or something.  Haven't reach this level yet so dont know exact amount.

25/08/2023, 1:55 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

Or a better example.

Cny give angpows to only nephew and niece who are studying.

But no angpows for nephew and niece who are working earning income.

They are rich, no need money.

Just say happy new year will do.

How will this group feels?🤔 <This message was edited>

25/08/2023, 2:01 pm - +Frankie Wee: AI too complicated with human 🙈

25/08/2023, 2:02 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

And lagi worst married niece - no need angpows.

But since you married, give me angpows in return.

This is how the 2/10 group feels now.

Your sacrifice is taken for granted.

And you should sacrifice more. <This message was edited>

25/08/2023, 2:04 pm - +Frankie Wee: How much angpows own family give and relative or friends

Mostly normal $2-$10

Own familt give $200-$1000

Wedding give $100+ in total guest

25/08/2023, 2:05 pm - +Frankie Wee: Every years the same when growth keep on generation to generation give

25/08/2023, 2:06 pm - +Frankie Wee: Low income or poor family get nothing feeling sorry for them. Best is not ask they will understand mean breadwinners <This message was edited>

25/08/2023, 2:07 pm - ☸️  Danny 心:

Actually, how much I give to my own son and wife is the same amount I give to my nephew and niece.

But I am not saying government should do likewise to low and middle income versus the upper income groups.

A sliding scale is most equitable.

But at least everyone got something. <This message was edited>

I say because I want to ensure a good government win the election in this sensitive time.

1. Presidential election.

2. Coming GE.

3. 4 GL transition.

Cannot leave any holes unplugged.

Hence important to highlight this hole - that need to be plug.

Quoting Minister MND - it is also for social good.

For social cohesion.

Hence there must never be a break or gap in our social fabric.

Because government in the good meaning policies to help the lower and middle income groups facing difficulties - has almost completely overlook the other 20% of the population.

I smell this is a dangerous signal.

Hence critical to bring this up in these crucial moment - especially the announcement of Majullah generation.

"ESP: Economics, Social, Politics"

What are the jobs of the future?

Just like the Chinese kinder rhyme of  "the three exceptional mice" (“三只老鼠”……跑得快,跑得快,一只没有眼睛,两只没有耳朵,真奇怪,真奇怪!)

It happened thrice in the previous three industrial revolution breathroughs began from the steam engines onto the knowledge of sciences and the scaling of productions and computers. And indeed all of these happenings were amazing inventions and intriguing to humanity! Yes, all of the previous three!

Now, it is the fourth coming of the transformation of jobs! One good thing of transformation is to guide the Human capital into fuller and meaningful uses compared to the previous or the traditional ways of working or doing a job!

"Monetary policy will impact  trades and diplomacy. Industrial policy will affect human capital and production. Policies on AI will redefine the factors of production and human shall become the division of labor."

- - anonymity

What can be done even better or just let it go? Conceivably with the help of the automates will drive down restrictions and allowing creativity to bloom into new breeds of flowering previously impossible but it will be.

In a highly developed economy, the future of jobs are expected to be of higher thinking, higher level of service and higher quality of hands-on jobs. All of these higher pitching are pointing towards a collaborative efforts with the AI to attain a higher outputs of +10. What this +5 means is the efficiency of the additional five manpower that were needed for the old job putting human and AI to hit the ball out of the learning curve or the productivity curve; a totally unseen ballpark figures from half a century ago.

So human will play second place to the AI or human will hand in hand with AI to make progress and innovations of products and innovative ways of servicing other humans becoming a fresh new way of life, cocooning out of the shelling of the previous stages of the chrysalis in the opening towards a greener pasture of tomorrow; a one highest connected world all over again!

Attachment, Detachment or Alignment?

When you are latched onto something or some ideas, you will always tends to motivate yourself to drive further this initiative or project to the success of not closer to the reality of intentions.

When you detach yourself from these initiatives, you will have other prospectives than this one. When you freed your attachment to this team, you will see many areas of opportunities and potential pitfalls. Simply, you are not attached to the team.

By detaching from the team doesn't means that you are the outlier. Perhaps, another way on seeing this positive attribute is a freeer mind to prospect tangibles and intangibles so to avoid any pitfalls that are blinded by the deeply attached team members. What often HR experts or top management would called it an off-site or retreats to elsewhere and realign or reorganise the team and most importantly, to rethink the order of the strategy and the system of the organisation.

When you align or realign whether is a problem, an issue or a lapse. You are attempting to gather the stakeholders and in the case of a public issue like the future impacts of empowering AI; the policymakers and the consumers must come to an alignment and consensus of what are the accepted consequences of using or relying on these automates for doing or for thinking purposes.

The needs to ensure that any bias or errors in the early design stages and intends of these AI systems to be of efficient and not overly compromising the structures of society and the enlargement of mankind; for the sake of security,  safety and sanity.

In summarising, in the fourth coming of automations, you need a few Intelligent outliers that possess diverse knowledge, experience and of good character to detach themselves from all the micro sights and contribute to the organisation or the team itself; many ways of seeing, dealing or solving any road blocks or mind blocks in order to against  groupthink or self-profess mindsets of knowing it all. And last but not least, avoid that famous and dangerous contingent of a "larger than life" team !

And till the fifth arrives; cumulatively, many big blip of disparities, disintegrates and discoveries, in the process of yet another new revolution; all human made!

To be continued...

Voters would 'prefer a chance to have' Singapore-born President and spouse, claims Tan Kin Lian.

A political analyst says the former NTUC Income CEO's "nativist views are highly inappropriate" and are a "risky grasp at winning support".

TKL is getting more and more dangerous.

He is trying to rule out Tharman and NKS - because their wives are not local born.

"Vital to have different types of people in public service, not just scholars: Tan Kin Lian in presidential candidate broadcast".

TKL is the worst candidate among the 3.

1. Sovereign fund size is at least 20 to 30 times the size of NTUC income he managed. Though he do well in NTUC, doesn't means he is well verse in overseeing such magnitude of fund - unlike Tharman and nks.

2. Both Tharman and NKS character is far far distinguished than this cheekopek uncle.

Very embarrassing for Singapore to have such candidate.

3. International stature, exposure, standings and understanding of geopolitical landscape very weak.

He say, never mind, got advisors to advise me what to say when hosting foreign head.

4. Forge unity among Singaporeans.

How to forge unity when he already offended the women groups, racist of foreign workers, breach CSA advice on cybersecurity not to reveal Singpass credentials, go against statutory declaration in nomination specify in constitution which he sign.

He is already on collision course with PM, Cabinet, Parliament, Civil Service.

Eg. I will be a monarch, a King. Did constitution accord him to be the king?

Eg. Collision with IMDA and ELD on his role of President.

Eg. Plan how to raid the reserves he suppose to guard by saying reserves too much, must spend for current generation, implying future generations never mind.

Eg. Interfering in governance - by telling Cabinets how to run the country.

The New Dawn of Skills & Jobs!

Transformation, whenever this might singular word appears it means BIG CHANGES!

What if comes a day when human overly relied on bots and automations and comes a once in a lifetime lost of memory banks or the crash of the CPU of these Superlative AIs?

Where are the immediate counter measures in placed for such a disruptive episode of crash and the vanishing of valuable data both local and cloud before rebooting to normalcy?

The old mantra of structure comes before form is the sour point of higher unemployment rates across the age group of working adults and more concerning is the young graduates who may not be equipped with the correct tools to handle this coming big change at all workplaces!

Two, the structure of an economy and its short term goals are both vital signs of employability for these fresh graduates. Presently, the world economics is heading for a slow down and the capacity for added expansions are limited if not a cautiously optimistic approach in procurement of resources like humans.

Three, these impeding big changes don't come cheap and it will forego a portion of the revenue just to transit in-between changing and existing performances of a company.

Four, the full impact of these global changes will come to fruition given the current rates of change, it will take more than a decade to implement successfully from the big corporations to the small scale businesses to connect into a fully digitised ecosystem of manufacturing,  trades and services: Private & Public; how each is willing to invest or subsidise in fresh graduates or  existing workers to train, to prep and to fit into the larger context of changes with no hesitation over the shorter term of profitability.

Five, so what will change to the future economics?

One clear vision is the Specialisation of skills and jobs will have a shorter lifespan and shorten products life cycle all because of technological breakthroughs, automations & AI as the next automates of the workplace!

Have your company done with the Stress Tests?

The coming unavoidable digital transformations at the workplace will displace or redesigned many roles or jobs enlargment to better the efficiency of a business competitiveness. The next best option is to identify specific business needs and goals before begins the transformative effort to implement AI or super intelligent machinery just to claim for subsidies or tax breaks or claiming to be part of the ESG world of doing business. Simply to say,"speaking is the easiest than doing it correctly"!

More so for policymakers to finitely identify the key areas for upskilling, reskilling or a totally new skills set and prospectively matching these jobs education initiatives to better means to the ends of many new job opportunities or creating new jobs.

With the unstoppable generative and super Intelligent AI running ever faster than humans couldn't catch their breath, it is imperative to change the overall mindsets and habits of workers especially those who are office based with financial based or non-financial based entities including the FMCG sector that are performing the daily repetitive tasks or adhoc chores in multiple duplicates. The entire service industry is at the top of the hit list for transformations!

How can these workers weather and the coming contender of the 'Trojan Horses', aka Superlative AI?

Well, we as humans must begin to craft our areas of specialisation, into various finite tasks to continue contributing and importantly finding a stronger collaboration with the Superlative AI (SAI) or be left behind to be redundant and retrenched!
