GE2020: Singaporeans able to see past 'sound and fury', focus on key concerns – Chan Chun Sing

In Singapore, electing a good Government is extremely important - because we are facing 3 critical milestone :-
(a) Leadership transition from 3GL (Generation Leader) old guard to 4GL new guard.
(b) Singapore and the World is facing a deep crisis - virus pandemic that threaten the population lives.
(c) Singapore and the World is facing a deep Economic crisis - that mirror the 1930 Deep Depression.

Electing a strong Government become extremely important - to ensure that a strong team can charter Singapore out of the crisis from a deep storm into calmer water.

As such, the following must be taken into serious considerations when voters cast their votes come Polling Day on 10 Jul 2020.

(1) If the unlikely scenarios of voting Oppositions that overthrow the ruling Government, Singaporeans cannot expect civil service to govern the Government with inexperience politicians in the Parliament.
A good example is how Trump ignore or override his civil servants policies or even change or swap out competent civil servants that contradict his ideas.
As a result, US lose its global leadership within 4 years that US rein supreme and US political, social and economy are now in a doldrum.

2. Life, jobs, Economy and our 4 Generation Leadership are at stake for Singapore.
This is a crisis that are so severe - that will override any opposition justification of needs for check and balance and alternative voice.
Oppostion can do both check and balance and alternative voice as NCMP - and need not be an elected MPs.

3. Singapore cannot be govern by too many diverse parties that have divest self interest that will pull policy planning and implementation in different directions - and make policy making extremely difficult.

Just look at Pakatan Harapan - where coalition parties with divest self-interest - pull the Government apart - and cause the Government to rise and fall, rise and fall.

If Singapore follow the examples of Pakatan Harapan politics (with so many splinter political parties) -- Singapore future will be dead!

4. Once we go into a wrong direction - it will be very difficult for Singapore to come back on track. Eg trump lose world leadership within 4 years. Malaysia splinter group got no dorminant party - and the whole governance fall apart with so many splinter group.

5. More oppositions more criticisms, less work done.
Less brains in the Ministers team to resolve problems.
Oppositions only ask questions and hamper the momentum --- like take 1 step forward, but 2 step back.

1. Oppositions can't create jobs for Singaporeans.
Did not see this happenings in Opposition operated wards.

2. Oppositions can't prop up the Economy, do trade deals, bring in investment, create jobs for Singaporeans.

3. Oppositions can't muster the resources to develop drugs, test kits, vaccines, treatment, create vaccine manufacturing plants etc to keep Singaporeans safe.

Only PAP government can.

By getting Oppositions into Parliaments ---- will make all the above 3 important tasks impossible for the PAP government.

Singaporean voters - must think wisely --- do you want jobs? do you want your Economy to grow? Do you want your lives, your families lives, your friends' lives to be safe?

If yes to all --- then vote PAP !

(1) Some oppositions can't even find jobs for themselves - you think they can find jobs for you?

(2) Oppositions have no clue to negotiate trade, investment, create jobs etc --- do you think they can create good value jobs for you?

(3) Oppositions have no clue to R&D and negotiate with foreign medical producers to get vaccines, treatment, drugs --- do you think they can save your lives from covid-19?

I think if voters vote in many oppositions --- Singapore will be dead !

Stanley
[4:19 pm, 05/07/2020] +: Totally agree
PAP is risking singaporeans  on polling day and all the mini coffee shop rallies

Ben
[4:35 pm, 05/07/2020] +: There is a positive in that post election there will be a new government without the distraction of elections coming and can take a long term view for the recovery.

Stanley
[4:42 pm, 05/07/2020] +: This is just a lame excuse by PAP
Don’t get con

Stanley
[4:44 pm, 05/07/2020] +: This is really a bad example from the ruling party without any regard for others

[4:48 pm, 05/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Bad time to held election?
Suppose the virus pandemic go on for a few more years, no need to held Election?

[4:51 pm, 05/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Few countries have held Election without major problems as long as safeguard are put in place.
This is the same justifications and measures in which our election is held.

Stanley
[4:56 pm, 05/07/2020] +: Which countries ???
If I recall all are back in 2nd wave of Covid 19

[4:56 pm, 05/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Because of Election?
[4:58 pm, 05/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
The 2nd wave is because of reopening up of their economy, not because of Election.

Boonphing
[4:58 pm, 05/07/2020] +: I think this is what Govt think. Phase 2 and many people queueing to enter shopping mall eating together outside etc.  So the calculated risk is Low since most people is already out.  Unless we still in phase 1.

Stanley
[5:00 pm, 05/07/2020] +: Regardless and difficult to pin point
The virus spread everywhere so long there are no safe distancing as is now at most coffee shops due to coming election
Virus cant tell u that it’s from election or not

[5:01 pm, 05/07/2020] +: Guess that’s the intended impression to tell us that it’s safe now to have election

[5:03 pm, 05/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Then provide the news article to prove that election in other countries lead to the 2nd wave.
Don't speculate and provide information base on guess work.

[5:06 pm, 05/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
You make the statement about election that contribute to infection.
So you got to prove it.

Alvin
[5:08 pm, 05/07/2020] +: oh dear, i think the risk of covid19 in wave 2 or 3 is higher not cos of election but enclosed and aircon shopping centres

Stanley
[5:10 pm, 05/07/2020] +: You claimed that elections in other countries did not start 2nd wave then show hard evidence
Just curious are you planted in this chat group to defend any issues related to the ruling party
You are Super pro for the ruling party on numerous chats
I’m commenting as a singaporean and parties independent

REACH - 111. Support Vulnerable through digitalisation (SK)
04 July 2020 (3pm - 10pm)

[2:59 pm, 04/07/2020] +: Dear contributors,
⏰ We will be opening chats today from 3pm to 10pm today. ⏰
📢 Topic 📢
The Beyond COVID-19 Taskforce will help social service agencies digitalise and be more innovative in order to help citizens emerge stronger during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
How can the community  support these efforts to help vulnerable citizens?
On Friday (July 3), the National Council of Social Service formed the Beyond COVID-19 Taskforce. The task force intends to help social service agencies digitalise and be more innovative during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
As emphasised by Social and Family Development Minister Desmond Lee: "the sector faces new challenges and will need to transform and coordinate better so that together, we can better serve the vulnerable".
NCSS also added that the task force will propose ways for the social service sector to "emerge stronger in the next normal" and provide feedback which can inform national policies.

[6:48 pm, 04/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
There must be 3 Holistic approach to tackle the issue of the vulnerables :-
- Tackle Immediate Physiological Needs
- Support for Self-Sustainability
- Uplift to break out of Poverty

[7:02 pm, 04/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
*1. Tackle Immediate Physiological Needs*
- Vulnerables could be due to poverty, disability, family problems, illness and others.

- Each type of vulnerability will require different approach to address their needs.

- But all vulnerabilities will require to tackle the immediate physiological needs such as :-
a. monthly bills to pay
b. housing and roof over the head
c. food to put on the table
d. medical bills to pay
e. school feeds to pay etc.

- So the immediate physiological needs will be required to be address urgently so that such vulnerable household will not feel despair and helpless.

- Programmes and scheme such as Comcare, financial assistance etc that are administer by MSF will come in handy - to keep vulnerable household afloat first.
(Digitalisation will come-in in 2nd stage)

[7:33 pm, 04/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
*2. Support for Self-Sustainability*
- Self-sustainability will be the best welfare for the vulnerable households or individuals.

- Because it is better to provide the vulnerable "fishing rod" to fish -- than giving the vulnerable the "fish".

- It give them pride, dignity and the satisfaction to be able to find a job that provide them the income to feed themselves and the family.

- Hence there is a need to deep to invite organisations, social enterprises and other like-minded organisations to provide jobs for the vulnerables and the disabled.

- I have come across organisations that set aside a department specially catered for the vulnerables and the disabled eg. UOB and other social enterprises that train and employ the vulnerables and disable in the F&B and other sectors.

- With covid-19 that make social distancing necessary,  it will present a challenge to the vulnerables and disable  to be physically present where they can also work-from-home if given the right digital resources for some vulnerables and disabled.

- But such vulnerables and disabed are fighting to keep themselves afloat with basic and physiological needs --- thus owning digital devices such as laptops, computers or smartphones become a challenge. And being trained to use such gadgets will also pose another challenge.

- Thus government support  together with the organisation employing them will be needed to provide such vulnerables and disabled the digital assets and trained them to use it.

- Schools can loan digital assets to students of vulnerable families.

- Government can provide grants to be able to subscribe to affordable broadband plan with Telcos to vulnerable families.

- Organisation can provide digital assets to disabled and vulnerable workers and trained them to work at home.

[7:49 pm, 04/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
*3. Uplift to break out of Poverty*
- Breadwinners in vulnerable families with decent jobs will keep the vulnerable household afloat.

- But I feel that it is not good enough. To break out of povery, there is a need to look closely at the members of vulnerable household - to see how to uplift more members of the housefhold by giving them education, skill trainings that will help them to secure high-pay, high value jobs --- so that it will help them to break out of Poverty.

- Good scheme such as school pay special attention to students from vulnerable household with good potential to do well academically - by providing special help for such students to excel, provide scholarship, bursaries etc will greatly motivate and help such students to excel.

 - Other schemes like CDC providing tuitions, and other training schemes to help vulnerable students to do well academically.

- Vulnerable workers who are willing to train for high-value jobs should be giving training grants and programs to allow vulnerable workers to continually upgrade themselves and secure higher-value jobs with higher income.

- Through digitalisation, vulnerable students and workers can access to online courses and training to secure certification and skillsets that will help to upskill, and uplift themselves.

- If such uplifting efforts are successful, vulnerable families can break out of poverty and will no longer be classifed as "vulnerables" --- but instead enjoy the same fruition through economic growth of successful Singaporeans.

What precautionary measures should we take to keep our community safe?
At the multi-ministry task force press conference held yesterday (2 July), it was revealed that there were 9 COVID-19 cases detected at Blk 111 Tampines St 11.
On June 23, MOH detected a COVID-19 case living in the block. The Singaporean man worked at The Leo Dormitory and was picked up during MOH's proactive screening of dormitories. Subsequently, six of his household members tested positive for COVID-19. On June 27, another two COVID-19 cases were detected in the same block but on a different level. They were reported to have no interactions with the 7 other cases.
Aside from the usual quarantine measures, residents of all 58 households living in the same section of the block that share a common lift lobby and stairwell were contacted to see if they were well. This is a precautionary measure taken due to the possibility of inadvertent contacts between the households.

[5:39 pm, 03/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Should look at 3 prong measures to keep our community safe and tackle the virus pandemic :-

*Immediate term measures*
1. Adhere to strict Social distancing
- wear mask when out of house at all times.
- maintain distance of at least 1 metre
- wash hands with soap regularly
- work at home as far as possible
- avoid crowd
- when dine outside - make sure after eating, put on mask.

2. Enhance Contact tracing capability - to quickly identify all contact source and quarantine, treat them
- scan SafeEntry QR if entering any premises, shops, malls, office etc to facilitate contact tracing.
- hope Government quickly issue contact tracer token - and everyone should carry with them to help in contact tracing.
-
3. Adopt Ring fence meausres
- By ensuring interaction between people can be ring-fence (eg. work at home or split workers into groups, same for school etc) - to control spreading.
- In areas with large crowd eg, shopping centres, food courts, markets etc -- regulate crowd and ring fence entries.

4. Open economy step by step and do so surgically
- We must open up our economy step-by-step with safeguard in place to prevent large scale spreading.
- Unlikely we should consider closing the economy backwards as cases rises - because it will hurt business, jobs and the Economy. Instead more safeguard should be put in place if the safeguard is inadequate.

*Medium term meaures*
5. Treatment & vaccines
- are the only way to effectively stop and curb the virus.
- If vaccines and treatment are found and develop --- our plan manufacturing capacity should be able to ramp up production quickly and help to get Singaporeans and residents vaccinated and with excess capacity can export vaccines to other Countries to help in global infection.

*Long term measures*
6. Rearing mass livestocks and mass slaughtering for animals food as well as eating wild animals are the greatest culprit of animal-to-human host virus pandemic
- We must constantly do R&D on alternative food sources to replace mass slaughtering of livestocks and wild animals for food ---- so that it will stop not only covid-19, but also future virus pandemic.
- Good potential food sources like Vegan base meat, vegetarian foods, beyond meat, 3D printed vegan based meat, cell culture and tissue re-engineering meat (that does not require keeping large livestock for mass slaughtering) - but only extracting of cells, tissues etc --- should be pursue and R&D so that such alternative food sources --- will replace live stock slaughtering and prevent future animal-to-human host virus pandemic once and for all.

The proposed above 3 prong measures --- can then effectively curb and tackle the current covid-19 virus pandemic and future animal-to-human host virus pandemic.

Rama
[5:51 pm, 03/07/2020] +: However Good still

Ken
[5:57 pm, 03/07/2020] +: Only point 6 I don’t agree. 🤣
Why I explain part of it already. But alternative source of food yes, still need to actively find it.
Getting the young to be in R&D is hard, due to the pay, uncertainty of job, many cons then pros. If we can solved that we will have more researcher. But as good ones comes out many die along the way as well. (As in no job or didn’t manage to do well fade into the background)
Passion and grades which is more important? To get into advance degree. Then go on to do research.

[6:19 pm, 03/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Thought writing policy paper must have a formal structured format with proper numbering system?

Ken

[6:26 pm, 03/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:

So not that frightening.

If you have a good family Witt decent income and wife/husband supportive yes.
If need stable income for family no

[6:27 pm, 03/07/2020] +: Yes very much

Rama
[6:27 pm, 03/07/2020] +: Sad!😞😔😟

Ken
[6:32 pm, 03/07/2020] +: This are people I know, not hear say or don’t know them at all.
One I talk to her the day before she jumped 😔
This forever can’t forget. 😔
Just in the papers put a 35 years old suicided that’s all. But what happen only people in the institution knows.
If given a choice my kids, I won’t encourage unless I have the means and don’t need him/her to take care of the family.

[6:34 pm, 03/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
People should not undertake the suicide path.
People can switch path if the R&D route cannot go further.

Jimmy Chew
[6:36 pm, 03/07/2020] +: how come depression? burn out?

Ken
[6:40 pm, 03/07/2020] +: Research is not a sure find answer path, why research, re-search, cannot find the search again.
I have many friend do 4 years of research and found nothing, it is not uncommon. But without a paper how you graduate? Some lucky ones first year can finish and confirm their graduation.
If without a decent paper publish you can’t find a decent next job. Not everyone can take that blow. 4 years, those that don’t do PhD might have kids might have career. You have nothing if you grad without a PhD. Consolation is you get a masters.
Then start from fresh grad with no experience.
Do note most PhD holders are high scoring individual in GPA. Character not strong? Partly, but most of them do not have many friends or family to talk to when they need help.

Rama
[6:40 pm, 03/07/2020] +: The pressures of responsibility, expectations and fulfillment!

Dong Liang
[6:41 pm, 03/07/2020] +: PhD can be very tough, especially if your supervisor is not supportive. It can drag for  years.

Rama
[6:41 pm, 03/07/2020] +: Possibly

Ken
[6:43 pm, 03/07/2020] +: 4 to 5th year if you supervisor no funding, you are on your own. When you need to send money back to family that depend on your allowance?
[6:43 pm, 03/07/2020] +: You still need to pay rent, eat and travel to school, 4 and 5th onwards you cannot stay in school

Jimmy Chew
[6:43 pm, 03/07/2020] +1: Character is strong, to be discipline to continue the research, to have ways to find answers, to question and argue the data, to spot irregularities in the data, to distill data and write something that is unique and not found out. The power of observation and meticulous data recording, collecting, storing. There is lots of competency required. Not to give up after 7 years of research.. haha

[6:44 pm, 03/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Applied R&D where your boss put you to conceptualise and develop products for the company is a different story.

Ken
[6:44 pm, 03/07/2020] +: I am in basic science, so yah funding also hard
[6:44 pm, 03/07/2020] +: Tier 3 finish no funding good luck to you

Jimmy Chew
[6:45 pm, 03/07/2020] +: yeah, not easy, my friend is research with a PC company, he always asks candidate, have you hack a software before 🤣

[6:46 pm, 03/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Basic science is a different story.
Funding, boss support and feasibility of the R&D outcome is a question mark.
For applied R&D, fund is set aside, the boss support plus there is a market out there.
Then the chances of success is higher.

Ken
[6:47 pm, 03/07/2020] +: Many time is luck for life science... reading does help. But sometimes doing the protocol wrongly you found something new 🤣

Rama
[6:48 pm, 03/07/2020] +: It helps in cyber security issues

Jimmy Chew
[6:48 pm, 03/07/2020] +: always asking "Why" must be like that haha

Dong Liang
[6:50 pm, 03/07/2020] +: Worst if your supervisor only make you his runner.

Jimmy Chew
[6:53 pm, 03/07/2020] +: yeah, the researcher left becasue there were no concrete substance to show, R & D is R & D, nothing to show, too bad, but we being $$$ conscious will close projects haha

[7:03 pm, 03/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Applied R&D is not just spending money only.
Must commoditiesd the product and market to customers.
Usually, the demand is already there, applied R&D conceptualised the demand and translate into technical specs and develop the product.

Ken
[7:04 pm, 03/07/2020] +: R&D basic also want to find something significant, can publish decent papers. To get there is to spend lor

[7:05 pm, 03/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Basic R&D is a different kettle of fish.
Usually takes place in university.

REACH
[3:00 pm, 02/07/2020] +: 📢 Topic 📢
It has been nearly two weeks since phase 2 and working from home is still strongly encouraged. How have your work from home experience been?
On 15th June, 4 days before phase 2 commenced, National Development Minister Lawrence Wong emphasised that working from home should remain the default for employees in phase 2. He also added that telecommuting is important for preventing the spread of COVID-19 within the community.
Phase 2 of Singapore's reopening saw a broader reopening of social and economic activities. Most recently, public libraries and local tourist attractions reopened its door to the public from 1st July onwards. However, safe reopening measures are implemented to ensure that public health remains a priority.

https://metro.co.uk/2020/06/30/worlds-first-3d-printed-vegan-steak-hitting-restaurants-soon-12924017/
Our R&D lab should also explore 3D-printed vegan meat in addition to our  cell-culture meat and tissue re-engineering meat.

Ken
[5:28 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Not cost effective as of now technology

[5:28 pm, 02/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
This will help to replace keeping and slaughtering live stocks to prevent animals to host pandemic.

[5:30 pm, 02/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
In which covid-19 has wipe out global economy of more than $5 trillion.

Ken
[5:31 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Do note that lab growth food requires growth hormones, that cannot be manufactured at cost effective rate as of current technology.
Growth serum is basically blood from cows mainly also known as FBS, fetal brovine serum.
[5:32 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Slaughtering of animal still requires only point is we can use their blood more effectively
[5:32 pm, 02/07/2020] +: But will be competing with research for resource
[5:33 pm, 02/07/2020] +: If it is vegan then yup no need FBS.

Ken
[5:36 pm, 02/07/2020] +: That we will dependent on sugar as food for the cell.  Culture meat requires high amount of water due to washing, sterilization of the containers, cell culture commercially is mainly use for vaccines production via monoclonal.

[5:47 pm, 02/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Temasek Holdings can consider investing in such companies and see whether we can benefits from such R&D as one alternative food source as we have both cap in food R&D and 3D printing.

Ken
[5:48 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Still long way to mature and acceptance of so processed food 🤷‍♂️
Grow Fish and veg still faster than a non mature technology

[6:18 pm, 02/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
R&D are always for the long haul with good market potential.

Ken
[6:19 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Do note that if cell culture food is a trend then buy in sugar related stock lol... cause that is required for production.

Dong Liang
[6:41 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Not just the visitors, it should extend to workplaces and other areas the residents have closely contacted over the past 14 days.

Ken
[6:42 pm, 02/07/2020] +: 😱😱😱😱 different floor

en
[8:32 pm, 02/07/2020] +: 😰
[8:33 pm, 02/07/2020] +: quite worrying
[8:35 pm, 02/07/2020] +: what do yall think about this

CQ
[8:37 pm, 02/07/2020] +: My first thought is whether the candidates have gone round visiting them....... 😱

en
[8:45 pm, 02/07/2020] +: but cases before nomination day right hahaha

CQ
[9:09 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Or maybe it might be through the contact the lift? I think I'd be quite freaked out if the link is the water!! 😝
Okok... No fear mongering! It's just me being quirky today.

[9:33 pm, 02/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
I see a few elderly pulling down their masks talking sitting in the void deck as though the virus pandemic is over.
Like that how virus won't spread in neighborhood.
When talking, all the more should put on the face masks.
But many people do the reverse.

Desmond Koh
[9:36 pm, 02/07/2020] +: U go tell them or take pics and send via one service app lor

XaniceAfcai
[9:36 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Even students also dun take it serious. Group of acs students with no safe distancing and mask pull down drinking Koi near buona Vista bus stop.
Another group of children all never wear mask or half mask are at playground running around.
[9:37 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Very common.. Evening time same group of uncles are always smoking together n talking.

[9:37 pm, 02/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Can, unless you want to make enemies with your neighbors in your block.

Caleb
[9:39 pm, 02/07/2020] +: I think education is the way

XaniceAfcai
[9:39 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Maybe got to take the place as the reference.. Report... Explain not convenient to take the neighbours photo

Desmond Koh
[9:39 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Haha ya lor, so this is an issues isn’t it?
Maybe here is an option? 🤔
https://www.sgclean.gov.sg/join/for-individuals/ambassadors

Desmond Koh
[9:39 pm, 02/07/2020] +: Yea is a chicken and egg question

XaniceAfcai
[9:41 pm, 02/07/2020] +: I tried... Take the coffeeshop sign. Then explain in the content field n upload via oneservice...
Gg to do that for that grp of uncles.. Take the place as reference place n state the timing they always there..

[9:42 pm, 02/07/2020] ☸️  Danny 心:
Now there are too many people flouting the face masks and social distancing rules.
Today I walk past a lady who wear a big sun glass with a big umbrella with no mask.
I stared at her and she just lower her umbrella to block her face.
If I start reporting through one apps there will be too many cases.
And probably get into a scene with few strangers or neighbors.
