Every year on 21 July, Singapore commemorates Racial Harmony Day (RHD). On this day, we celebrate our differences and reaffirm our commitment to go beyond them. Schools also hold activities and discussions aimed at enabling students to gain a deeper appreciation of racial harmony, multiculturalism and social cohesion.

The theme for Racial Harmony Day 2022 is Singapore: Our Multicultural Mosaic.

💬 What are your views on racial harmony in Singapore? How do you think we can build a more cohesive society in Singapore?

Yesterday (21 July), Minister (MOE) Chan Chun Sing, 2Min (MOE) Maliki Osman, and SMS (MOE) Gan Siow Huang joined students at various schools to commemorate RHD. At these schools, they participated in dialogues to discuss issues such as people judging others based on their skin colour, racial stereotypes and how to deal with such situations.

In a FB post, President Halimah Yacob said that racial harmony will always be a work in progress. She added, “But we are in a better place than before because of our commitment to building an inclusive society regardless of race, language, or religion. Singapore benefits when we make room for difference.”

PM Lee also said in a separate post that the youth today are more concerned about issues like casual racism and micro aggressions. He said that there is a gap that we as a society have to bridge and resolve, not through argument but empathy and understanding.

[10:34 am, 22/07/2022] +Rama: This will always be there in the work place, community, neighbourhood, public transport, work place, religious organisations.  So, when PM LHL said at a past national day rally that there is none, he is not fooling the people who face this daily.

[10:47 am, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: racial harmony boils down to one thing Respect of the society -> cannot always force one way and believes aka human rights / or my rights / my space

[10:48 am, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: we are like bees and ants living in a social eco system , not sharks where not happy bite off another sea creatures (well sharks are preys now also by Whales see how things change)

[10:49 am, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: Covid is a very period of time to see how many self centered families / person / groups are coming out and this leads to some form of social tension -> racisim to a few degrees because these people spread the thoughts and intents within their same group ; because of not Respecting the social culture

[10:53 am, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Agree

[10:55 am, 22/07/2022] +Uncle Law: Our country's racial harmony would be considered a lot better than other countries like US or perhaps our neighbouring countries.

Since young, there are activities that promotes racial harmony and also thru National Service.

Perhaps on this Racial Harmony day, more funds can be channeled to the CCs or RCs to organize activities for the estate.

[10:56 am, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Yes

[10:59 am, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: tell me which country u can really see peace co-existence of a temple / mosque / hindu temple on the same street ? hmmm minus a church now to think back ....

[11:00 am, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Exactly

[11:00 am, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: will be a perfect situation if we can find all major religion building on the same street

[11:10 am, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Racial harmony and religious harmony are our greatest assets since independence that have helped us in Nation building.

2. Our ability to embrace diversity and forge mutual respect with different races and religions - help us to connect internationally with many countries and attract investors and talents into our shores and grow our Economy.

3. Hence conscious effort must be done to continuously promote racial and religious harmony.

[11:21 am, 22/07/2022] +Uncle Law: Perhaps the various religion can invite guests of other race. They could apply for some form of grant to organize such activity

Let's get physical?

Quarterly weekends community carnivals with lots of MEANINGFUL activities across age groups. From FairPrice "weekends" promotions for selected groceries to workouts, sports, music & dances, foods, wines. Importantly, let it be a FUN and INFORMAL event whereby community and country leaders visits not necessary be announced or prior noticed.

Reimaging the community spirit! Let's get physical, mingle with friends, neighbors, new citizens and people of all ages converging for a day of FUN and vibes across our island nation-SG!

[11:27 am, 22/07/2022] +Smiley face: Let's think how to expand the "work-life" balance to engage one another.

Afterall, what's living and what's life? Is it waking up to work, to school, to wet markets or there are more ways to LIVE (LIFT) IT UP - That's, living a meaningful life!

[11:34 am, 22/07/2022] +Smiley face: To make these community activities for frequent and intense. Perhaps every month a GRC will have such weekends happening?

[11:51 am, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. Racial and religious harmony cannot be left to chance and must be consciously cultivated.

2. Schools should have conducted lessons on our history how racial and religious ethnic evolved, and how we get ourselves together to be what we are today.

3. Social spaces must be allowed for each races and religions to conduct their activities.

At the same time each racial and religious group should conduct open house to invite different racial and religious groups for social interaction and understand the difference culture and ideologies to promote understanding and promote similar wholesome values.

4. Mutual acceptance of meal consumption is one way to promote appreciation of food cook by different races.

5. Ensuring mixing of races in dwelling instead of racial enclave is important to build mutual trust and acceptance.

6. Celebrating national events that bring different races and religions together.

7. Immigrants of same racial mix and proportion.

Are the ways to promote and ensure racial and religious harmony.

[0:00 pm, 22/07/2022] +jimmy chew: Interesting concept and idea. How does one convince a family on sustenance to join and the others who live in their 'own bubble' to mingle?

[0:01 pm, 22/07/2022] +jimmy chew: You may build but they may not come

[0:18 pm, 22/07/2022] +Smiley face: Hi Jimmy,.

Just Internet content,  one interested will surf till dawn comes!

What's the content be? That's the driver of any success or failure of this worldly things we are living whether from the past, the present or the arrival of tomorrows.

"A Country is like a Family (爱民如子) "

What causes unhappiness and no harmony within a family or an extended members of a family?

Perhaps, past understandings or present conflicts or lack of interactions and isolations that will affect a posture of a suppose harmonious family relationship.

In today's highly connected world via our smart phones and or mobile devices, it is almost certain that the idea of "to each its own" social behavior exists and it will continue to manifest to either many highly uncertain scenarios and or into many forms of individualism in a society!

How to avoid these undesirable thinkings and behaviors?

Today's social media are highly diverse with many to…

[0:25 pm, 22/07/2022] +jimmy chew: Yeah. Agree. It's a complex issue. No one size fits all. That's the mystery of life

[2:11 pm, 22/07/2022] +Andrew Ang: Sometimes upbringing and education does play a part in cultivating a racial Harmony environment. When we were children, we mixed around like happy folks.

[2:13 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Agree

[2:14 pm, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Some people say it is not possible to get 4 different races to sit in the same eateries for food - with reference to point 4.

I say it is possible in 2 scenarios:-

1. Fast food restaurants that supports halal.

Eg. Subway, MacDonald, KFC, burger king etc.

I saw Chinese, Indians and Malays munching sandwiches in subway in the same restaurant.

2. Muslim stalls where I see Malays, Indians, Chinese and Eurasian taking Muslim food.

[2:16 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Sometime ago, minister in charge of Muslim affairs was interviewed on Syria Channel which was carried over to Channel 5. They were attempts by some Muslims to go back to eating segregation in public.

[2:18 pm, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

I am eating in subway - I saw 3 groups of Indians, one Malay family and the rest Chinese munching sandwiches in subway.

I feel happy to see this.

[2:21 pm, 22/07/2022] +Andrew Ang: A lot of times, people are being affected by circumstances such as stereotyping, cyber bullying, physiology bullying by groups.

People just looked at surface issues. Always remember that a coin does have two sides.

[2:33 pm, 22/07/2022] +RH: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/commentary/covid-avoid-reinfection-how-long-immune-protection-vaccination-2807026

Just a side note, everyone ...

With recent Covid cases on the rise, and the new variant being more infectious,

and even for people who have caught Covid before, the chances of reinfection are high.

Therefore let's not forget to take basic precautions like we did at the start of the pandemic.

Do remember to exercise care when interacting with one another,

wear our masks properly (I see so many casually walking ard without it these days),

wash our hands frequently,

avoid touching our faces before washing your hands etc….

These r things tt we forget as we get “used to” the pandemic.

It’s time to re-attach some importance to these best…

[2:43 pm, 22/07/2022] +jimmy chew: Was at Jurong west today. Sales girl saw a dark FT approaching she continues using her her phone. FT asked for directions she shooked her head and says "don't Know, don't know and frown" poor FT.  if a European will it be different? There are pickets of racism..sad, sad.. haha the entitled young Singaporeans?

[2:52 pm, 22/07/2022] +RH: Some of these "entitled" ones go to elitist schools wher they hardly come in contact w others fr diff races.

Their families also do not mix in such social circles.

Hence , some of our young 'uns grow up never knowing or learning how to actually interact w someone of a diff race, despite all the moral education or whatever they rcv in sch.

Perhaps such elitist sch can include lessons on social interaction w diff races , as part of their curriculum, be it as moral lessons or as practical social interactions at events like helping out at elderly homes or children's homes, or even doing tree planting w other schools of a diff ethnicity ? And do this on a regular basis, not just one off, to mutual understanding & tolerance.

Or have camp activities tt involve …

[2:54 pm, 22/07/2022] +RH: * to build mutual understanding ...

[3:07 pm, 22/07/2022] +jimmy chew: I thought it's more the family upbringing rather than the School system? Look at our first bath of MPs they come from elitist school.

[3:08 pm, 22/07/2022] +jimmy chew: Maybe parents needs to be trained haha

[3:09 pm, 22/07/2022] +jimmy chew: Haha I heard a mother said to her kids you better study hard if not you end up like the cleaner

[3:18 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Likewise

[3:18 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Agree

[3:19 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Possibly

[3:19 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Sad

[3:19 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Blady rude

[3:28 pm, 22/07/2022] +Andrew Ang: It should apply to local neighborhood schools. Teachers / principals should focus more on the quiet ones. When a child ponders, who knows what will happen. Eg: River valley high school killing

[3:28 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ken Loh: Depends on person bah..

don’t think is to do with skin Color 😅

[3:32 pm, 22/07/2022] +RH: Agree.

Some parents too, need courses in social etiquette.

New citizens who r not used to our Singaporean culture can also benefit from courses in ethnic  interaction.

Gov dept handling new citizenships ... Can perhaps include a short practical session / course in ethnic & social interaction, such as being good neighbours, etc. , since majority of us live in HDB flats ...

Haha ...

[3:32 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ken Loh: Really depends…

Those that goes elitist school, usually comes from better background.

Be it affiliation or alumni or simply stays nearby.

Normal parents usually won’t enrolled their kids into such school as it is harder to get in and requires lots of effort to get into. (Talking about primary school)

[4:00 pm, 22/07/2022] +Boon: Talking about schools, is there already a good racial mix (and minimal elitist attitude) from primary/secondary onwards if admissions are based on 1-2 km distance from home, alumni, children additional talents (which implies $ for piano, dancing, etc), etc?

[4:11 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: basis of any harmony is to make known and remind all we are of 1 RACE AND KIND - HUMAN BEINGS

[4:11 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: thus regardless of race / language / gender / disability or not, we should respect fellow human as a human

[4:12 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: human being the most intelligent need not also be reminded that in life there are bound to have disagreement and must learnt how to accept disagreement, no one is always right

[4:12 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Common courtesy applies to all

[4:13 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: harmony at home is a smaller scale of harmony within a society

[4:13 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Good starting point

[4:13 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: again look at our little children (toddler 6 and below)

[4:13 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Yes

[4:14 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: they are the true reflection of how human should be ... everyone is friend to them. is US THE ADULTS and society that impure their mind teaching them the segregation / power and might / money and will

[4:15 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Yes

[4:15 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: sounds illogical -? well is up to one, dun see things too details many a times, take a step back and see things in its simplest form

[4:16 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: if seeing little monster is not possible -> the next reference i can share is see the animal kingdom,  they have more compassion and learnt how to live with even their nemesis ... who say dogs and cats cannot get along tik tok and u tube proven otherwise

[4:17 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: if animals who have less intelligence den us humans can do it why not us human being or are we less den animals intelligence ?

[4:17 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Agree

[4:17 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Our ego

[4:17 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: yes ego is another devil in us

[4:18 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: with education = knowledge but how well put to use is these vast knowledge ?

[4:18 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: this is just some thoughts which i think is simple enuff for anyone to understand

[4:18 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: no kid is born evil nor good

[4:19 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: they just know hey that boy or ger at the playground is a friend that i can play with

[4:20 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Asian values like respect, filial piety, respect for elderly supersedes any academic paper qualification .

[4:20 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: same for kids who already is at the playground .... hey a new kid maybe we can have him join us make more noise, grow the monster team , let the monster team be the owners of the play ground

[4:20 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: now that's to me another area to touch on where the WEST do not see these values

[4:20 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: to them Human rights is the value

[4:20 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Exactly

[4:21 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Nonsense without substance

[4:21 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: the rights to call meself genderless, carry guns, take drugs, to kill in peace time (anger or joy), to affect others without affecting me .....

[4:22 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Shocking

[4:22 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: not being racist but covid had shown alot of the west compare to the east (unfortunately many east prefer to follow the west

[4:23 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Fat chance

[4:24 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: anyway with harmony it comes along respect .. these 2 goes hand in hand

[4:24 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: but resect does not mean one kow tow to another

[4:24 pm, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

This is the values that bother me alot.

[4:24 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: sorry respect ....

[4:24 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Exactly

[4:24 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: to me these are not values

[4:24 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: these are self fish minded believes and culture

[4:25 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: values are based on theories which had been passed down from generations to generation and had little negative impact on family nor society - not sure if i am right but at least this is what i see

[4:26 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Big fish eat small fish

[4:26 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: is not big fish east small fish

[4:26 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: is monkey see monkey do

[4:26 pm, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

That's why US societies are too polarised, divisive and breaking apart.

[4:26 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: 😅🤣😂🤦‍♂️😓😠

[4:26 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: and capitalisms rule us all

[4:27 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: for that few occasion YES Danny i agree with you

[4:27 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: hahahahaha

[4:27 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: no society in this world is perfect thus no countries shld dictate how the other should run

[4:28 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: in our world we might find democracy / even simi-democracy good

[4:28 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: but in the world of communist they might find it better

[4:28 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: who are we to judge and pass final judgement

[4:29 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: sorry delete that last input hahaha better dun name entities

[4:30 pm, 22/07/2022] +Joseph: Have you/any of your family members gone to the so called “elitist” schools before?

Is your comment, a statement of fact, or merely an opinion, based on a hunch/bias/misguided perception?

Have you actually seen how diverse the population of students in these so called “elitist” schools is?

Is it possible you are mistaking lack of compassion with racism?

Is it really the case, that only the “rich” behave like “entitled brats”? And that they only come from “elite schools”? Is that racism?

The comment above yours… sounds like the someone from an “elite school”, rich family/background or never interact with others of a different race/religion/culture?

[4:31 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: The part about no country should tell us what to do - our then FM K Shanmugam in his speech at the UN General Assembly - medical drugs may be allowed on your country but don't tell us to allow it here, with a stern look on his face as he stepped off the podium.

[4:32 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: this i agree with him .. singapore have a strict regulation and i hope we retain that posiiton and not move because of some human rights countries .. is my house and as care taker of the property they have to have the best interest of the leasee of the property ....

[4:32 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: again another hot topic recently also

[4:32 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: but let's focus on harmony ....

[4:33 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: i think better empoly SINGA and Teammie the Bee and whatever animals or insect mascot back lah

[4:33 pm, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Hopefully our Ministers and future Ministers must continue to be tough on drugs - and not bent on international pressure under the guise of misplaced compassion.

[4:33 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: THIS ONE I DARN AGREE!!!!!

[4:34 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: drugs run many lives for a society and the effects are much wider and vast ....

[4:35 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: Reach possible to bring back these animals and insects mascots again ... pull them out from retirement or retrenchment like Singa mentioned

[4:35 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: the society here constantly needs to be reminded by these team of mascots to be SINGAPOREANS AND NOT SOME FAKE ANGMO OR WESTERN MIND SET

[4:35 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: All schools are not equal when elite schools have certain advantages

[4:36 pm, 22/07/2022] +RH: Run another national "Graciousness" campaign ??

Lol ... 🤣🤣🤣

[4:36 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: A Banana will always be a banana, cannot be a white carrot ......same for potattoe will never be a sweet potate

[4:36 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: did we have one such before recently hahahaha

[4:36 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Yes

[4:36 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: i only remember those songs they play on TV which we sing along to with singa and the bee hahahahaha

[4:37 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: brainwashing or communisim some call it so what

[4:37 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: that's Singapore in the past

[4:37 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: dun tell me because of that our society that worst ?

[4:37 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: no i think wihtout these control the society actually really got work

[4:38 pm, 22/07/2022] +RH: If I remember correctly, the last one was for MRT train behaviour ...

Or is ther another after tt ?

🤣🤣🤣

[4:40 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: if anyone have freak idea that singapore is NOT RACIALLY FREINDLY -> CHALLENGE THEM and bring them to the street where a hindu / chinese temple / mosque sit near side by side....

[4:41 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: ask them which part of the setting show we are not racially equal

[4:41 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: do not be infuse by those who claims it is not

[4:41 pm, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

1. To be honest, myself, my brother and sister come from the so call "elitist" schools - RI and RGS.

2. But all our kids, we put them in neighbourhood schools.

3. Incidentally, we all end up in local Universities - supposedly to be the elite Uni.

4. Whether we are in "elite" which my siblings and myself don't feel we are or our kids in neighbouring schools don't feel they are lesser off - because they graduate in the same local Universities.

5. Ultimately it is how we interact with people and accord the mutual respect with people around us - regardless of education level, job status, income level or household types.

[4:41 pm, 22/07/2022] +RH: Agree.

Not all schools r equal.

It is the people who make up the school .. By tt, I mean ...

The parents, the principal / teachers, staff, students , anyone working in ther ...

How the school is run , wat they teach, who interacts w whom, etc.,

contributes to the nurturing of the children who attend tt school.

😉

[4:42 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: School are all the same

[4:42 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: is the society that segment them

[4:42 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: With reference to the recent documentary on life behind bars which generated mention in Parliament, a similar one should focus on life destroyed by drugs on light of appeal for those on death row

[4:42 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: but all schools good school yes -> for educating the society

[4:43 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: but does GOOD SCHOOL PRODUCE ANGELS -> ANSWER NOOOOOOO look at the recent criminals cases how many are from hot schools

[4:43 pm, 22/07/2022] +Joseph: It’s not the schools that churn out “elites” … it’s the people who go to those schools, that make it what it is.

Take a moment to think of what i just said 😉

[4:44 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: and also did we not see good society contributors from lousy or even ITE schools

[4:44 pm, 22/07/2022] +RH: 👍🏻👍🏻 I liked tt documentary .

Well presented and set a lot of misconceptions right.

[4:44 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: but i am no doubt dare says schools they themselves do the segmentation also

[4:45 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: cos wanna be outstanding / special / cream de la cream (not those kopi tiam cream)

[4:46 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: have anyone saw how a jc racial harmony day had a arab cosplay student playing the role of a terrorist ....

[4:47 pm, 22/07/2022] +Joseph: If that were true, all you need to do to make one of the neighbourhood schools the top school, is to transplant the Nanyang staff there.

[4:47 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: irony ya but to the student is fun / the one playing the role feel specials he got the attentioned / is a whats the big deal / this kind are called the head inside arse study too much become stupid

[4:48 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: also if can show some reality of racial discord effects must show like riots

[4:49 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: killing of each humans

[4:49 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ah HENG: aka ill effects of anti harmony / fellow human beings

[5:02 pm, 22/07/2022] +Joseph: Singapore had done well on this front. We need to continue to maintain the harmony.

In my opinion, the absence of racism, is when you don’t “see” race/cultural differences.

I recall not too long ago, there was a huge uproar because some junior executive responded to a complaint from a person of a different race - the complaint was over the person’s failure to secure an advantages rental space for her retail biz.

The response was factual and direct., explaining why the bid was rejected, but the person used social media and drummed up the issue, making it about racial discrimination, playing the minority/race card.

So, the question i have is, who is the one being the racist here? The junior exec who responded as he would to any person regardless of rac…

[5:17 pm, 22/07/2022] +BL: Yes, this is true - and it seems to be an emotional subject for you. Why do you see it in terms of nationalism?

[5:19 pm, 22/07/2022] +BL: Making this an East West issue is not constructive nor helpful. Many of us only see these issues through the eyes of the media, and should be careful not to allow those views to be taken as true or to cloud our judgment.

[5:20 pm, 22/07/2022] +BL: There are poor decisions on both sides. Some may say China is now being too strict on lockdowns. Some may say US is too lenient....

[5:22 pm, 22/07/2022] +BL: Yes, complacency has kicked in. It's a fine line, but basic hygene seems an easy and considerate thing to do...

[5:24 pm, 22/07/2022] +BL: Yes agreed. Understanding builds tolerance and respect. Interaction removes fear and mistrust. No group should impose on others, equally each group should have freedom to enjoy their cultures and beliefs.

[6:01 pm, 22/07/2022] +REACH: 📢 Topic 📢

At these schools, they participated in dialogues to discuss issues su…

[6:04 pm, 22/07/2022] +BL: One thing to promote racial harmony is to make clear that East v West is not 'a thing' - people on all parts of the globe have all kinds of views. Some are shared and some are opposed, but that language stokes up division and anger.

[6:05 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ken Loh: Singapore is one of the few countries all races are treated fair equal.

In School don’t really feel much difference, and food choices are so much.. the greatest point of being so divest 😆

[6:06 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ken Loh: I can’t lived without prata, long tong, chicken rice, and so many different food that are nice and fairly cheap for so many choices.

[6:07 pm, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Singapore value systems must be preserved, promoted and make known to the world - how our racial and religious harmony - have bring peace, harmony and prosperity to our society.

[6:08 pm, 22/07/2022] +BL: Yes, agreed. Singapore is diverse and welcomes Chinese, Malaysian, Indian and Others. Religions are respected and not imposed. Laws are made based on logic and data. Education enables MTL for the main National Languages.

[6:09 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ken Loh: Not easy… we had the common understanding as we all shared common immigration history.

But as we grow up, I do feel that other than work we rarely get to mix with other races as often

[6:09 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ken Loh: The best place to get to know people from other race is mainly in school or in Army

[6:10 pm, 22/07/2022] +BL: Younger generation learns racist behaviour from the older generation. No one is born racist. Maybe this is something for older generation to be conscious of and especially careful with vocalising feelings of nationalism and attitudes to others.

[6:11 pm, 22/07/2022] +BL: Yes, people naturally gravitate those who have similar cultural values, language, common history and environments.

[6:11 pm, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Well my previous workplace do have multiracial - Chinese, Indians, Malays, Eurasians, Filipinos, Pakistan etc - quite a good mix.

[6:12 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ken Loh: No one is born racist but mindset will be shape as they grow up.

The unjust they feel growing up, Chinese privilege is a thing that we can’t get. Only minority can feel it and know it exist.

[6:12 pm, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

My neigborhoods quite a good mix of Chinese, Indians, Malays, Eurasians and Filipino families.

[6:13 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ken Loh: My floor is all Chinese 😅

The Indian family buy and left it empty. 😅

[6:13 pm, 22/07/2022] ☸️  Danny 心:

Oh...

[6:14 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ken Loh: Rich family that just buy and left it empty for Atleast 3 years since I move in never see the family…

They are mainly in Australia

[6:15 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Let's agree to disagree respectfully

[6:15 pm, 22/07/2022] +Ken Loh: My block quite divest.

Have a few American, Thai, British. I do stay in HDB. All of them are foreign spouses. 🤣

[6:15 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Great foresight by our first cabinet

[6:16 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Cheers mate

[6:16 pm, 22/07/2022] +Rama: Likewise

[6:20 pm, 22/07/2022] +jimmy chew: yeah, we mustn't take our racial harmony for granted, so that we can continue to enjoy the diversity of flavors available haha

[6:31 pm, 22/07/2022] +BL: Yes
