[10:59 am, 06/08/2021] +REACH: πŸ“’ Topic πŸ“’

An interim measure to reduce potential COVID-19 transmission in hospitals will see visits to all wards ceased, with some exceptions, from Aug 5 to Aug 18, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Wednesday (Aug 4). This comes after more COVID-19 community cases were detected recently, which include staff members and patients of hospitals, said MOH.

πŸ’¬ As the Government continues to push on with efforts to maintain the safety of the community against COVID-19 and the community doing its best to stay safe, how do you think we can transition to endemic Singapore?

The Multi-ministry Taskforce (MTF) will be providing an update on the Covid-19 situation soon, Finance Minister Lawrence Wong said in a Facebook post on 5 Aug.

Singapore had re-entered Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) since Jul. 22, where further restrictions were implemented to curb community spread.

Previously, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung had explained that the stricter restrictions were necessary to protected unvaccinated seniors who are likely to visit markets and will be at risk due to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster.

Minister Ong, however, said if more people in the population are fully vaccinated, that will put us "in a much stronger and resilient position" and the Phase 2 (HA) rules will be reviewed again.

As of 4 August 2021, 65% of our population has completed their full regimen/ received two doses of COVID-19 vaccines under the national vaccination programme, and 78% has received at least one dose.

[11:03 am, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

It is thus imperative that Mandatory Vaccination must be imposed - to ensure all unvaccinated elderly people are vaccinated.

Cannot just leave it to chance.

US CDC say 80% vaccination to achieve herd immunity against Delta variants is not good enough.

More than 90% vaccination is necessary to achieve herd immunity against the more transmissible Delta variants.

Long Covid: What is it and what are the symptoms?

[11:18 am, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Because as vaccines trigger the development of the anti-bodies - the anti-bodies attack the covid and prevent it from further replication.

As covid replicate less, viral load become lower - and thus less likely to cause damage to human organs and the red blood cells - reducing the chance of long covid among the Vaccinated.

4Aug2021 CNA All patients who are unvaccinated will be approached by hospital healthcare team on covid-19 vaccination if clinically appropriate.

Patients who received their 1st dose covid vaccination at the hospital should return to the same hospital for their 2nd dose, said MOH.

[1:23 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

1. Without 100% vaccination, and if declare endemic, it will easily overwhelm the hospital resources and deprive patients with other illnesses from getting treatment.

2. Hospital staff will also be at risk if too many covid patients congregate at the hospital.

3. So unless we impose mandatory vaccination and make everyone vaccinate - declaring endemic prematurely will have negative consequences.

[1:24 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: https://newsroom.uw.edu/resource/vaccines-challenge-evolving-covid-19-variants

Fortunately, the situation is not as dire as described, it seems ...achieving 100% vaccination rate remains the key to defeating CV19 πŸ™

[1:29 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

To go into endemic mode the following conditions are required:-

1. US CDC study say that more than 90% vaccination is required as Delta variants is very transmissible like chickenpox.

2. Hence Mandatory Vaccination must be mandated to achieve the high Vaccination rate.

3. Elderly and vulnerable will succumb in the hundred or thousand - hence protecting them is imperative - and Mandatory Vaccination is the only means to achieve this objective.

4. Covid is not like common flu or cold - as it cause long covid that have long term severe illness - and Vaccination is the only means to prevent or greatly reduced the risk of long covid.

5. Hence Mandatory Vaccination is the mean to check long covid - and prevent heavy burden in the healthcare needs if many unvaccinated succumb to long covid the moment we declare endemic.

6. Remember no one is safe unless everyone is safe.

Even if 10% is unvaccinated, > 500,000 people are unvaccinated and will serve as a Trojan that will reinfect the majority.

7. Since Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be given a full and final approval for vaccines to fight covid by US CDC - that means this vaccine no longer consider as for emergency approval - and is suitable to be used for mandatory vaccination.

To conclude, I will like to urge the government to give serious consideration to the above suggestions before declaring endemic.

Everyone life is important. We can protect each and everyone - with a stroke of the law to mandate compulsory vaccination.

[1:48 pm, 06/08/2021] +Ben: Excellent numbers, great job by all the volunteers, and gov messaging.

[1:50 pm, 06/08/2021] +Ben: I think the point is that the daily case numbers are no longer a good indication alone. Need to look also at vaccinations numbers, hospital, icu etc

[1:50 pm, 06/08/2021] +Valli: GOV  should give a breakdown by age range of the numbers in hospital who are very ill & in ICU.

Similar like what they provide for vaccination.

This may encourage us not to be complacent.

[2:32 pm, 06/08/2021] +Alvin Lim: Allow my 2.14cents

Endemic Plan (The End Game)

1) Masks MUST be mandatory as part of new normal, regardless of how many % been vaccinated. Get use to it.

2) Enforcement for non-compliance of wearing masks along public places, corridors etc MUST step up. There are many elderlies not wearing their masks around the housing estates and coffee shops.

3) Workplaces are becoming common place of flouting mask wearing rules. Eg. I see foreign workers in Changi airport offices walking about the corridor without masks. Need to have more checks and enforcement.

4) MMTF should consider being very careful about reopening air travel again. Eg. Locals returning back from overseas should still QO even if swab is negative and vaccinated, esp if they coming back from risky countries with Delta+ variants.

That’s all I have for now again my 2.14 cents

[2:41 pm, 06/08/2021] +CQ: I support the masking up! Can get by with minimal makeup. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ˜†

Coronavirus: Singapore study of mRNA vaccines’ effect on Delta raises hopes of shorter isolation periods.

Researchers find vaccinated people hit by breakthrough Covid-19 infections shed the virus faster than unvaccinated counterparts, raising the prospect of faster recoveries and shorter isolation periods.

While the study was not exhaustive, experts say the data reinforces the need for vaccinations alongside mask-wearing.

[3:11 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Why not compel Mandatory Vaccination if saving elderly life is imperative?

Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be given full and final approval soon.

[3:34 pm, 06/08/2021] +Rama: What will it cost the country before vaccination is compulsory!?

[3:35 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Huge healthcare cost if no vaccination.

Vaccination is less costly.

[3:36 pm, 06/08/2021] +Rama: Might be too late then!

[3:37 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Some elderly are just too stubborn or too fearful of the vaccines.

No matter how we talk until the cow come home - also will not want to vaccinate.

Only say government mandate, they no choice then will force to mandate.

[3:39 pm, 06/08/2021] +Rama: With the latest variant in Pakistan worrying India, better wake up! I thought landau variant was bad enough before this latest variant.

[3:43 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: Actually if you look at the vaccination rates for the elderly, it is really not that far off from the rest. Of course there are those who refuse to be vaccinated, but the numbers seem the same across all age categories.

I would be careful not to play into the hands of those who are hiding behind the "Govt forcing Elderly to vaccinate against their will" narrative, painting the picture of an uncaring Govt that should not be trusted, to support their decision not to vaccinate since it is a G initiative.

[3:44 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

[3:45 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

If the vaccines is given full and final approval by health authority - mandatory vaccination is the norm just like other mandatory vaccines.

[3:46 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Save lives is more important than anything else

[3:47 pm, 06/08/2021] +Alvin Lim: I think the issue is they are most vulnerable lot, hence if can get 100% from their age group it's better to get 100%

[3:47 pm, 06/08/2021] +Thomas: This epsilon variant originated from California, USA. With so much anti vaxx and hesitancy to vaccinate in US, won’t be surprised variant coming from there

[3:48 pm, 06/08/2021] +Rama: Possibly

[3:50 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: I am not disageeing with full vaccinations.

I am saying, look at the statistics - which is something i notice you do a lot of - the % of elderly who are vaccinated is not the far off from all the other age categories, which drives me to consider whether that whole narrative about "Elderly refusing to be vaccinated because ..... " is really nothing more than a tactic to sow discord and gain more support for the anti-G camp, which in turn, will benefit those who refuse vaccination for reasons that have all been refuted by Science. The only thing they can cling on to, and hope to gain support from, is a common distrust of the G's initiatives.

[3:51 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: Don;t play into the wrong hands. Thats all i am saying

[3:53 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: This had been circulating on social meda... I am sure many would have received this as well ......

[3:54 pm, 06/08/2021] +Rama: The choice must not take precedent over the common good.

[3:54 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: I wrote a reply to it and asked the sender to send it back to whoever he/she received it from and so on...

[3:55 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: Soon that, I looked into the data on MOH website on the vaccination rates .. which showed that most age groups have hit similar levels...

[3:57 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Whether using soft tactics, or hard tactics or combination of soft and hard tactics is ok - as long as achieve the eventual outcome.

I think we will get there and the government is equally resolve to get there - no one is safe until everyone is safe.

As we get closer to the 100% mark - all options should be on the table - to help everyone cross the finishing line.

[3:57 pm, 06/08/2021] +Alvin Lim: As long as it’s not mandatory, there will be a gap of 10% - 20% who likely won’t be vaccinated

[3:57 pm, 06/08/2021] +Thomas: This is tugging at the heart to elicit guilt for locking them up.

[3:58 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: Which makes me wonder if this "Elderly refuse vaccination" narrative is just being used to manipulate the masses.. to stir anger and distrust of the G...so that it gives justification to those who refuse vaccination

[3:58 pm, 06/08/2021] +Alvin Lim: It’s alway the 80-20 rule

[3:59 pm, 06/08/2021] +Alvin Lim: 20% not vaccinated will likely make up 80% of those in ICU

[4:00 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: exactly.. most who read this, will feel that the G is being uncaring ... if left unchecked, it might evolve into distrust of the G and its initiatives.

[4:01 pm, 06/08/2021] +Thomas: When they die, they blame the G for uncaring too .. no winning here

[4:01 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

20% is 1 million people unvaccinated.

10% is 500,000 people unvaccinated.

The reinfection to the majority and crippling our hospital resources will be tremendous.

Without 100% vaccination, no one is safe

[4:21 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

This is a century crisis, that everyone must do it together.

Leave no one behind.

[4:36 pm, 06/08/2021] +Vivian: Totally agree - 100% vaccination and still everyone should still do our part in masking and hand sanitizing. Prevention is always better than cure and vaccine is not a cure to the virus. Also, the virus would mutate as well. Do not think vaccine is the answer to Covid-19.

[4:38 pm, 06/08/2021] +Elena Woo: If based on this concern by WHO and the delta variant rampage, I think Singapore has to go for 100% vaccination (including babies and young children below 12 years old) in order to declare Covid as endemic, and in the meantime until that declaration comes, default wfh, social distancing, wearing of masks and toggling between Phase 2 and Phase 3 are inevitable.

[4:39 pm, 06/08/2021] +Vivian: I totally support the new norm.

[4:40 pm, 06/08/2021] +Vivian: I myself will still wear a mask even if gov declare there is no need to anymore.

[4:40 pm, 06/08/2021] +Vivian: same to my family and friends.. I will encourage them to do so too.

[4:41 pm, 06/08/2021] +Elena Woo: Singapore govt, should put this on the alert radar....

[4:41 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Wearing a mask is a must even if we achieve 100% vaccination.

Mask is not needed until and unless global covid pandemic is over and WHO declare pandemic over.

[4:43 pm, 06/08/2021] +Rama: Agree

[4:44 pm, 06/08/2021] +Alvin Lim: Going to repeat this again with some spacing for easier reading

Note :- vaccines trial for infant is break up into 2 parts:-

1. 5 to 11 years old.

2. 2 to 4 years old

Babies to 1 years old not included.

UK, Israel and US advise pregnant women to get vaccinated - so that babies will get the anti-bodies as well.

So there is still a gap for babies - month old to 1 years old not vaccinated.

[4:51 pm, 06/08/2021] +Rama: MMTF to comment on babies to one year old.

Is this how Singapore deal with no discrimination

Why do we need to know is vaccinated or not

Coming from Europe this reminds me of the darkest days of the 1940s

[5:31 pm, 06/08/2021] +Laurent: This is no acceptable

[5:35 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: How would you like it if I went over to Europe (France is it?) and start telling your Govt that it is not acceptable that I can't identify who is vaccinated and who is not?

[5:35 pm, 06/08/2021] +Rama: No issue for me

[5:35 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

2 to 4 years old on another trial.

Babies to 1 year old - no announced trial.

US, UK and Israel advise pregnant mother to vaccinate so that babies and 1 year old are protected.

Only then all the gaps will be filled - achieving 100% vaccination.

Unvaccinated will not enjoy the privileges - until and unless they got their jabs.

[5:58 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: Do you also have a problem with the Safe Distancing Ambassadors wearing bright red uniform? Or how about our Police officers? Or students?

[6:00 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: There is a difference between discrimination, which is bad and not welcome, versus differentiating for the purpose of easier identification.

[6:00 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: There is a reason why you can tell a snake is poisonous or not just by looking at its markings

[6:01 pm, 06/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: Maybe you should ask God (or whatever creator you believe in) to do something about that too

[6:03 pm, 06/08/2021] ☸️  Danny εΏƒ:

Who hog the hospital resources and use taxpayers money to subsidize their treatment in hospitals - mostly the unvaccinated.

What are the geopolitics and inter-country repercussions and  unintended consequences?

[9:47 pm, 06/08/2021] +Smiley face: An Old saying "what goes around comes around!" - the germ that turns the world inside out!

Attention:

From now till end Q1 of 2022 - Caustiously Optimistic

Main:

Fact, new variant has emerged in UK days ago. This new variant, hopefully, will be milder, less lethal than the D strain and no concern!

The coming months will turn into winter for the N hemisphere couple with the now fully open Europe and the USA. There is a possibility of a big storm ahead, highly evolving and full of uncertainties! The clock is ticking, now, the world is watching how China (original epicenter of covid - Wuhan) and the rest of its big cities evolve, this case the D strain.

Will the booster japs be able to surpress the D or the next variant of concern will emerge from the S Hemisphere countries like Peru, Brazil or Chile?

"This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
