Safe distancing enforcement officers can enter, inspect and search various premises, including residences, without a warrant, to check whether COVID-19 regulations are being complied with, said the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) on Monday (Aug 2).

๐Ÿ’ฌ  What are your views on the existing COVID-19 enforcement efforts?

URA provided this response after actor Nick Mikhail posted videos on Instagram about URA officers and police officers entering his home on July 31, to which URA clarified that officers from different agencies had been deployed to the estate following feedback from residents in the area of large gatherings.

The police are also investigating 84 people following raids on 76 massage establishments and 78 public entertainment outlets between last Monday (July 26) and Sunday (Aug 1).

In a statement on Tuesday night, the police said they raided unlicensed KTV-like outlets at North Bridge Road, Outram Road, Kallang Avenue, Ubi Road 1 and Geylang Lorong 13.

Singapore reported 98 new locally transmitted coronavirus cases as at noon on Tuesday (Aug 3). This is the first time since July 18 that Singapore has reported fewer than 100 locally transmitted cases.

[10:17 am, 04/08/2021] +Caleb: How do public identify SDEO?

CALL 999 to confirm?

[10:19 am, 04/08/2021] +Angelica: I think the government has good intentions in deploying such methods to protect those who are obeying the rules.

The officers were also deployed only after there were feedback.

However maybe the issue itself was not handled very well and the SDAs not trained that thoroughly which led to this situation.

It also didn’t help that we didn’t know of this before this incident happened.

[10:22 am, 04/08/2021] +Caleb: What's the difference between SDAs and SDEO?

[10:25 am, 04/08/2021] +Poh S. Lim: I guess SDA or Safe Distancing Ambassadors have less authority of enforcement compared to SDEO or Safe Distancing Enforcement Officers

[10:30 am, 04/08/2021] +Poh S. Lim: I’ve seen SDAs in their trademark T-shirts sometimes congregating in small groups and chatting among themselves before, so I believe they’re not that well trained and probably from travel / hospitality industry where the government was trying to support with work… not sure it this is correct, but it is my guess.

[10:48 am, 04/08/2021] +Desmond: Both serve the same functions,

conduct patrols, advisory on safe distancing..

Just that SDEO is a public servant, auxiliary or police which can do enforcement a.k.a issue summon

[10:50 am, 04/08/2021] +Desmond: In the IDA is already very clear that SDEO can enter premises without warrant liao…

[10:51 am, 04/08/2021] +Ben: Make it clear who they are; their ID and procedure; make it a criminal offence to impersonate them; make it easy to check their credentials; remind the public that breach of regulations is super serious so make sure we all understand the requirements of the QO (ask questions if not clear!)

[10:52 am, 04/08/2021] +Ben: Well, there you go! Nothing new here then :)

[10:53 am, 04/08/2021] +Ben: Just want to avoid the problems of the misunderstanding over sharing TT data I guess.

[10:53 am, 04/08/2021] +Desmond: For clarity, SDEO are empowered as the same as an health officer

[10:55 am, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: What ever effort to control Pandemic I support..

But wondering if Care about Group of people who Fails SD meaaures at home,

How about BUSES and MRTs?

[11:01 am, 04/08/2021] +Desmond: The recent case was about entering the premises and the SDEO was accompanied by police though…

Impersonating already an offense under penal code liao..

https://www.police.gov.sg/media-room/news/20190228_arrest_man_arrested_for_impersonating_as_a_cheating_f

As far as I know, all SDEO have to carry an appointment letter, their staff pass n NRIC, police will verify their identities if the public have doubts..

[11:02 am, 04/08/2021] +Ben: Got it, the same offense as impersonating a police officer?

[11:03 am, 04/08/2021] +Desmond: He will be charged in court on 1 March 2019 with personating as a public servant under Section 170 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. If convicted, he shall be punished with an imprisonment term which may extend to 2 years, or with fine, or with both.

[11:03 am, 04/08/2021] +Desmond: I think in the law, no distinguishes of police or normal public/civil servant ba

[11:05 am, 04/08/2021] +CQ: The concern is for the vulnerable old folks who may not be as savvy in identifying if they're legit SDEOs.

[11:18 am, 04/08/2021] +Rama: As long as spf accompanies sdeo, no issue for me.

[11:18 am, 04/08/2021] +Rama: Probably

[11:20 am, 04/08/2021] +Rama: So, spf don't verify credentials of sdeo!?

[11:20 am, 04/08/2021] +Rama: Agree

[11:24 am, 04/08/2021] +Alvin Lim: This summarized whatever I wanted to say specifically

[0:28 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ben: Yes, for elderly a police officer should acompqny the SDEO

[1:35 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

1. As Delta variants is highly transmissible, we have no choice but still remain vigilant by adopting safe distancing measures to prevent Delta variants from host jumping, hence :-

a. Wearing Masks in public

b. Observe safe distancing and prevent overcrowding

- are necessary.

2. If outbreak occur, fast response need to activated quickly, hence :-

a. Test

b. Trace - Contact tracing

c. Ring-fence

- to curb the spread become necessary.

3. However, the above 1 and 2 measures - does not solve the root cause of the covid spread - only a stop-gap measure to prevent infection and stop covid from spreading.

a. Only fully vaccination will :-

- protect individual from developing serious illness if infected by covid

- reduce the initial high viral load to low viral load as anti-bodies atttack the virus when infected - and reduce the ability for the virus to transmit

- only herd immunity of 100% vaccination among the population can stop the Delta variants with a reproduction number transmission rate of R0 = 8 to 9 (chickenpox transmission rate).

4. As our population is only 61% fully vaccinated - we are still far from 100% vaccination to curb the Delta variants.

Hence there is a need for the people to adhere strictly to safe distancing measures to slow the spread of a very transmissible Delta variants by :-

a. Ensuring everyone wear masks

b. Prevent crowding by breaching the Phase 2HA measures.

- Hence if the above measures are breach, strict enforcement by Safe Distancing officers will be required.

- Agree with our Government enforcement measures to ensure Phase 2HA measures are adhere to.

[1:36 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Four in five tenants and workers at Jurong Fishery Port are fully vaccinated: Grace Fu

Around 80 per cent of tenants and workers at Jurong Fishery Port are fully vaccinated, with 88 per cent having received at least one dose, said Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu on Tuesday (Aug 3)

More: https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/four-in-five-tenants-and-workers-at-jurong-fishery-port-are-fully-vaccinated-grace-fu

[1:36 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Still got 20% not vaccinated.

Yet can cause widespread infection by Delta variants.

Thus 80% herd immunity not good enough.

Need 100% vaccination to be effective.

[1:36 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

This live scenario is a good illustration that R0 = 8 to 9 need 100% vaccination!

Even 80% herd immunity through full Vaccination is not good enough.

Only mandatory vaccination to achieve 100% vaccination - then can defeat Delta variants!

[1:37 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

So either the whole population are vaccinated, else everyone is at risk.

All-for-None,

None-for- All

(Everyone must Vaccinate - to ensure no covid)

(Else if not 100% vaccinated, Everyone else will risk reinfection).

Hence Mandatory Vaccination is the only option to achieve 100% vaccination.

[1:52 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

So we should set our vaccination target :-

1. By National Day - 67% (2/3).

2. Next target - 80%.

3. Last target - 100% vaccination.

Note:-

1. FJP - fishery jurong port despite 80% full Vaccination can breakout into so many clusters - now 100 clusters with KTV help.

80% full Vaccination is not good enough.

Hence 100% full Vaccination is required.

2. This hypothesis is supported by smallpox pandemic R0 = 5 to 8 and chickenpox pandemic R0 = 8 to 9 - where only 100% vaccination can defeat the past pandemic.

3. AI predictive simulation model also simulated that 75% full Vaccination will still have many major outbreak like what we are going through now.

Only 100% vaccination can effectively curb the Delta variants.

[1:56 pm, 04/08/2021] +REACH: New Covid-19 cluster in Changi General Hospital ward; patients can continue with outpatient visits

A new Covid-19 cluster in a Changi General Hospital (CGH) ward was announced on Tuesday night (Aug 3), but hospital operations are running normally and patients can continue with their outpatient appointments, said CGH on Wednesday morning (Aug 4).

[2:04 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ben: Yes, this is the new normal. Good to see we are adapting to it and putting sensible provisions in place, rather than shutting everything down.

[2:11 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: https://cnn.it/2WN5JQJ

[2:13 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Even here Everyday we have Children cases..

And yet They simply want to take risk.

If its just flu

Why not allow all Vaccinated to roam freely?

I don't understand their logic, one time says

Covid causing long term illness etc

And one side want to achieve HERD immunity With out even 80% of vaccination rate!

Illogical to put children lifes at risk.

[2:14 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/07/26/us/politics/fda-covid-vaccine-trials-children.html

At the F.D.A.’s urging, Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna are expanding their trials for children 5 to 11.

[2:15 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: No updates baout children cases.

Only thing they mentioned is None of the children is on Oxygen or At ICU.

And these experts will they GUARRENTEE that This children will not have any illness in future because of this infection.

As long as No data to prove

They don't guarantee

All they care is EXAMS GRADES.

Disgusting

Pfizer to test COVID-19 vaccine in larger group of children below 12

[2:16 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: It takes many more months... Till then you want children to take risk?

[2:16 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: This already mentioned about trails aboyt children cases

[2:21 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: If some one (adult above 18)says i have No no Previous health condition s and i am not vulnerable

As anyway Majority who is dying And In ICU are Those with Long term or previous helath issues,

I dont need Vaccine

What will the Govt say??

Isn't it Illogical to say this?

As Majority is different and each own for himself is different

Majority didn't get doesn't mean We don't get

And we try injecting some sense and Force them to get vaccinated.

But for children

They PURPOSELY ignoring and

Risking children

[2:22 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Because like I mentioned other day

Injecting in children Minds

Can die but MUST BE SUCCESSFUL

CAN DIE BUT CAN NOT STOP SCHOOLING

CAN DIE BUT can not miss exams

[2:22 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: This is their logic

Other than this i don't find anything else

[3:22 pm, 04/08/2021] +REACH: ๐Ÿ“ข Topic ๐Ÿ“ข

Several contributors have messaged REACH to request that we discuss as a community, photos and videos that have been shared online and on our messaging platforms of individuals in traumatic incidents, including self-harm attempts.

This includes pictures circulated of an incident on Monday (Aug 2) of commuter climbing onto a track at Yio Chu Kang MRT station that halted train services in both directions on the North-South Line between Ang Mo Kio and Yishun MRT stations for about 25 minutes.

Thank you to those who suggested we discuss this very important topic! We want to hear from YOU!

๐Ÿ“ข  How can we persuade our community to refrain from taking photos/ videos of traumatic incidents and self-harm attempts, and/or sharing these photos and videos with others? How can we better protect members of our community who are in distress?

The Children and Young Persons Act (CYPA) offers legal recourse to minors 18 and under who may be affected by media coverage of events involving them, such as the publishing of information that reveals their identity.

Parliamentary Secretary Rahayu Mahzam spoke in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 3) - in response to questions from Workers' Party MP He Ting Ru (Sengkang GRC), on media guidelines for approaching minors in the wake of traumatic incidents.

[3:27 pm, 04/08/2021] +Poh S. Lim: Can such deterrence be legislated? With the advent of smartphones and digital images, social networking platforms, people have been targeted which makes it unfair especially if they are not truly at fault but damage is done. Witness the rise of the practice of doxxing which makes life unbearable when people are publicly shamed.

[3:28 pm, 04/08/2021] +Poh S. Lim: I think if someone published identity of minors in trouble, they should be brought to task as a misdemeanor

[3:28 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: This in itself is not doxxing, unless some people start identifying the individual, who he/she is, what school, where they stay etc etc.

[3:29 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: the start of it all, imho, is the advent of Stomp (if you guys still remember). It encourages people to snap pictures and post, if it gets picked up for publication, the first person who reported it will get $50. Thus begins the whole kaypoh culture.

[4:23 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7481176/

Covid-19 pandemic impact on mental health of children and adolescents.

The changes in school routine has tremendous toll on school children.

Adolescents may feel frustrated with events and encounters that they have not experienced or at least postponed.

Problems such as worsening school performance, increased agitation, aggression, and regression may arise or become more pronounced.

[4:31 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: In Singapore pandemic is not needed To talk about mental wellbeing

As here children feel Stress all the time

[4:34 pm, 04/08/2021] +REACH: Launch of cross-sector group to help strengthen marriages and family relationships

A new cross-sector group that will create and implement solutions to help strength marriages and families was launched on Wednesday (Aug 4), said the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF).

More: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/alliance-for-action-launched-to-strengthen-marriages-families-15378774

[4:34 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

The response to covid - is not simply to keep children at home and everything will be fine.

There are just too many considerations down the path:-

1. Student mental stress at home.

2. Parents mental stress at home.

3. Home violence that go up - when all squeeze at home

4. Student needs physical interaction in school.

5. Parents need to manage their time at work and at home - needs boss consent.

6. Workforce will be displaced if students miss lessons and can't graduate.

7. Teachers to juggle HBL lessons and physical lessons - don't gel.

So I believe Moe is using targeted approach to lockdown and HBL when infection surface - not a blanket approach to HBL.

[4:38 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Overseas have kept children away from school for a year - and the disruption to children mental well being, children path to acquiring knowledge and disruption to workforce - is very detrimental.

Singapore schools have avoided this through targeted approach, mix with HBL due to our very developed IT infrastructure and physical distancing measures to allow children to attend school.

[4:43 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: 1. Studies making Student stress more.. will MOE consider reducing syllabus

Please go and children in Primary level how much stresfful are they now also usual times

2.parents stress Also To send children to school when they happliy working from home

3.Violence Goes up exactly when stress is more. For that This is not the solution

4! Exactly for your Info

THERE IS NO INTERACTION

Students are forced NOT TO TALK TO FRIENDS or play with them Despite they look at each other masked faces

(You have no idea about How it feel, as you mentioned You have no school going children now. Ask few childrenplease)

5. I clearly stated in Yday messgae. The WHOLE PROBLEM lies in ENORMOUS SYALLABUS, the class work and Home work.

CHILDREN won't die if These are reduced or not there Even for one or two years

6. Here whole world People dying and Even UNI graduates graduating in different countries with out exams, as pandemic Is so scary. We are talking about school children here. Pathetic

7. I don't understand

Is it a big deal TO INSTALL a camera and use Zoom like platforms To gove Live of what tecaher is teacher in Class room???

ALL THEY CARE ABOUT IS Worksheets and Corrections

(A total olf style teaching method)

So i believe MOE simply being selfish

(Like a 18 year old who is healthy and refused to take Vaccine)

[4:44 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Old style

[4:46 pm, 04/08/2021] +Timothy Low: From what I understand, not all subjects have Common Last Topic, as such not all students get to enjoy the benefit of removing CLT for actual papers. Will MOE be able to consider to make all subjects to identify CLT in the future? For those subjects that cannot identify CLT, Su can as languages, perhaps make the exam paper easier?

[4:47 pm, 04/08/2021] +Timothy Low: *such as languages

[4:47 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: what about as family what support are we giving ?

[4:47 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: like i said before cause and effects .. it's not always the MOE that is at fault

[4:48 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: what about family

[4:48 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: it cannot be the lame reason of lock up at home all stress

[4:48 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: stress over what ?

[4:48 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Family Is Always important.but these decisions of HBL not lies on families

Its the MOE and MOH decision

[4:48 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: cannot travel to countries for holiday / cannot go shopping / cannot go high tea / cannot meet friends

[4:49 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: make full use of this time to help each other in a family

[4:49 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Then why locking up healthy Adults who are Vaccinated ?

Aren't they Fine to go for work meet collegues and friends

[4:49 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: we are not in total lock down

[4:49 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: go out

[4:49 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: appreciate and learnt to appreciate nature

[4:49 pm, 04/08/2021] +Rama: Agree

[4:49 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: find ways to make living in this tough time fun

[4:49 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: go out no need to east to west

[4:50 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: your hdb downstairs can have fun too

[4:50 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: issue here is we as parents too take away the fun for our kids

[4:50 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Yes

Also use Technology when it's available

[4:50 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: who allow their kids to scream and run wild like a monkey

[4:50 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: nooooo we do not

[4:50 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: of cos must do it appropriately

[4:51 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: not at orchard road or some park where ppl park tor at night

[4:51 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: let them release steam

[4:51 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: technology is a double edge sword

[4:51 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: and id digital addiction

[4:51 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: so must be careful

[4:51 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: stress is not about school work sometimes

[4:52 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: is about why others can have luxuries in life while they cannot

[4:52 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: kids they think about many thing

[4:52 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: some will compare why he got phone A while i dun even have 1

[4:52 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: so family communication is impt but that does not means we spolit them

[4:52 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: spare the rod get a brat

[4:52 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: when is time to wack wack

[4:52 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: They need to have time to do this

Only happens if Less work from school.

[4:52 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: time to scold scold

[4:53 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: time to reward go ahead do it for them

[4:53 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: time love show it .. nothing wrong to show you love for each other in a family ....

[4:53 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: bottom line make every moment count and have fun

[4:54 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: dun take experts words at face value see what works and what does not

[4:54 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Yes In school as well

[4:54 pm, 04/08/2021] +REACH: PM to deliver televised National Day Message on Aug 8

[4:55 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: even when family faces a crisis learnt to open up to each other failure is NOT the end

[4:56 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: stress is because of a mixture of aspect: expectation / urge / not willing to share / face value ....at least this is what i feel

[4:56 pm, 04/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: How about the parents do something about it? If the parents are really concerned, then stop sending the kids to school. If enough do that, the school/MOE will have to act.

I think its not fair to push all the responsibility and blame on MOE/Schools/G.

[4:59 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: it's a statutory requirement for parents to ensure that their kids attend school (at least for primary school) regularly, otherwise they can kena charge

[4:59 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Last year i did that only..teachers called Vice chairman called

And assured me about the situation

And My child cried like anything

As she said She will miss all.the work and She still need to do the work when she return to school.

For her she felt Stress for not going to School as Rest of the girls going.

As i parent i don't want to sent now,

But because she is insisting i Have no choice.

She will cry and scold me if i don't send.

[4:59 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Yes

[4:59 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Full HBL only happens during CB.

Full WFH only happens during CB.

Now is not CB, phase 2 HA.

Thus full HBL and WFH is not activated as a big proportion of people are vaccinated.

Targeted approach for school and 50% hybrid for workforce will not support a full HBL for children.

[5:00 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: and yes, usually the schools try to advise the parents first, and very often, by pulling the "your kid will suffer academically" card.

[5:00 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Then WHY NOT GIVE CHOICE to parents

Those who wants HBL

[5:00 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Like how the Companies are doing

Simple right?

[5:01 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: I told my child it's ok If academics Suffer

But she is scared that later she will have much more stress to finsih all the missed lessons

I have no Solution for that :(

[5:03 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: nah, that statement isn't meant for the kids. it's meant to trigger the "kiasu parent" in you.

[5:03 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: actually by doing that is additional stress for the kid

[5:03 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: maybe you can take off one day every week if really worry

[5:04 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: impt is teach your kid (1) health defense the usual mask on etc (2) open up the comms channel with them on anything and everything

[5:04 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Yes understand

[5:05 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Hmm

[5:05 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Phase 2 HA affect the whole country, and the whole economy - not just schools.

Government, business, workers, school children need careful coordination.

Moe cannot decide alone all HBL.

Remember our last CB - cost our government finance $100 billion.

We cannot afford another such hit

[5:05 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Yes everyday keep reminding her about all these....

Doing the best to protect her what ever is in our hands...

[5:07 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: yeap and the mask that is very very impt regardless u vacc or not ..

[5:07 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: always bring extra ......and never reuse those disposal types

[5:07 pm, 04/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: That is true...but so is not observing safe distancing. Doesn't look like the law had been very useful/effective. ๐Ÿ˜‚

My point is that if enough parents show their concern about the situation through their actions, the G will respond. Quite obviously, right now, most parents are not as concerned about the risk of CV19 to their kids as they are about them falling behind in their studies. Or at least, that is the message that parents in general are sending to the G by sending their kids to school.

So, I think it is unfair to only blame the G for this.

[5:08 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: About 10kbparents signed an online petition about HBL

[5:10 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Also we cannot compromise the quality of the education just because there is pandemic.

Employers will be as demanding on the workers performance.

They don't want graduates given a degree without going through an exam or proper assessment.

Else how on earth to know whether the graduates have full grasp of the subjects they studied?

It will end up like one India university that sell degree certificate - that is worthless.

[5:11 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: I don't know that To work PSLE marks and Olevel exams are must

Sorry i am ignorant

[5:12 pm, 04/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: I understand what you are saying and how you feel about this.

Unfortunately, it seems the majority of parents are not as concerned as you are. Even your daughter is more concerned over her grades than CV19.

I am quite sure you are in group chats with other parents of your child's classmates. Why not raise the question and get a feel of how the others feel about it? Reach out to other friends. If each of the parents can reach other to a few others, and they in turn do the same - esp. with social media making it easier to do so nowadays - If you can rally enough parents to speak up collectively, maybe something will be done?

[5:16 pm, 04/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: Maybe these 10k parents should take their kids off school for a week see what happens.  Signing an online petition is easy. Taking action, not so. And I think the authorities will heavily discount it because of that.

I am all for changing the current education system/objectives.

As I keep saying, there is something seriously wrong with our system if the majority needs enrichment/tuition just to catch up with the curriculum.

[5:17 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Yes agree your points

[5:17 pm, 04/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: But change will not come if the stakeholders - parents - are stuck at the "talk-only" phase

[5:18 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: As now Already prelims started my daughter not listening

How much we tell, with

Teachers and Peers they still have concerns about Marks and grades

[5:18 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Agree

But my question is

Why Govt not thinking through

Why does parents need to resort to Last option!!

[5:20 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: did say before whats is the school primary role? why are they (schools) competing amount themselves? then parents naturally will also compete amount themselves? not to mentioned kids is already competing among themselves

[5:20 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: thus tuition centers and staff are earning good money hahahaha

[5:21 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: thin someone did say here their kids is in a class of 40 for primary school?

[5:22 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: question again why den cannot have smaller class ok dun tell me what not enuff teachers , very stress for parents etc .....

[5:22 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: i also dunno why. teachers also want smaller class sizes

[5:23 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: hurh teacher wants smaller classes?

[5:24 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: but they say "we're observing safe distancing what. everyone wear mask, at least 1m, no interaction."

[5:24 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: if yes that is a positive sign

[5:24 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: seems those in the offices do not see or feel what is on the ground

[5:24 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: yah! my friends who are teachers have been saying that for the longest times. then when a school's intake reduces, instead of maintaining the school and just reducing class sizes, they decide to merge schools.

[5:25 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: that's what i think is werid too

[5:25 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: school is not a profit centre

[5:25 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: is not like the studying number drop to 1 student : 30 teachers

[5:25 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: even if it drop to 10 the teachers can be reassigned but school can carry on

[5:26 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: those born in the late 60s to 70 will know a class size of 30 to us was big already

[5:27 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: when teacher have a smaller class results can be rather pleasing ..... student feel good as well

[5:27 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Singapore is quietly the World leading industrial hub.

https://news.google.com/articles/CAIiEPJVL8KKb530PimcQVNnw1sqFQgEKgwIACoFCAow8HIw0Aww0MuNAg?hl=en-SG&gl=SG&ceid=SG%3Aen

[5:27 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Well the author suggest that we are at the top end of the industrial and manufacturing production riding on Industrialization 4.0.

Also our workers are trained through continuous learning via skillfuture to produce these high end output with top MNCs anchoring their R&D and top-end manufacturing plant here.

[5:27 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: anyway not experts wrods and papers are good cos different region / different culture / different genes / different climate

[5:27 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: a lot of teachers get disillusioned and quit after some time, cos the work conditions are horrid. there's so much admin, every teacher has 1 form class, 1 subject and 1 ECA, teachers have to deal with parents and "why my kid's score so chui", and now they're in charge of the kids' character development, safety, mental health etc etc etc.

[5:27 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: must take the good and rojak it with our formulae to make the best for our local

[5:28 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: o dun forget teacher now cannot screw up kids verbally will get complaint den principle will screw up the teacher

[5:29 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: hmm missed those days where teacher instill discipline in their own local way with block board duster and cane ....

[5:29 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: yah, and no more public caning. then have to put up with kids who try to upskirt the female teachers and think it's funny...

[5:29 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

One of the reasons why Singapore is the world leading industrial hub - is because we have highly educated talented workforce that can produce top quality grade products and services.

We don't want substandard workforce.

[5:29 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: some will say move with times

[5:29 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: some say spare the rod it works better

[5:30 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: my take kids will be kids when is time to be and get tough do it

[5:30 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: else they will be like what we have in the society now

[5:31 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: self centre / full of theories but cannot work / abit abit stress / lack of ethics, culture / just know see numbers ....

[5:31 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: o yeah i am out dated new age dun follow such ...

[5:34 pm, 04/08/2021] +Rama: Well done

[5:36 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

That's why top grade schools and education system that produce good students is our winning formula.

We must handle our education system carefully - and not let it go down the drain.

[5:36 pm, 04/08/2021] +Rama: Agree

[5:42 pm, 04/08/2021] +Dan: Results driven at the expense of people- u are the best spokesman for the ministry.

[5:42 pm, 04/08/2021] +Dan: I will say well done too.

[5:44 pm, 04/08/2021] +Suma pamu: Understand this very well

Can die but Can not be failure๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ.

Totally understand

[5:45 pm, 04/08/2021] +Dan: Minister Chan has to come up with something better than Buddy System to solve the mental health issues of the students and the teachers. If the ministry still see it as an issue.

[5:47 pm, 04/08/2021] +Rama: Bullying, whether physical or online must be tackle cautiously and not swept aside as a trivial matter.

[6:06 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Oh incidentally, all my previous staff are good quality staff and a happy team.

I am result oriented, demand the best from them but not at the expense of the well being of my staff.

[6:15 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Or rather, a happy high performing team.

[6:16 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: erm... whether staff happy or not is the staff say one, not the boss say. boss will always think their staff happy and love them deep deep

[6:18 pm, 04/08/2021] ☸️  Danny ๅฟƒ:

Oh yes, we used to kick soccer after work, go for social gathering.

Not I organized one, my staff organized one.

[6:33 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: Hahahahah but very true

[6:33 pm, 04/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: Its not only about Tuition centres earning good $....  the current system also encourages "brain drain" amongst the teaching staff

With all the additional responsibilities on top of teaching, and pressure from kiasu parents, it is no surprise that the better Teachers will aim to serve out their Bond, and then leave to join the private sector as tutors for more $, less stress.

So, we mostly end up with the less experienced, and sometimes less capable teaching staff.

[6:37 pm, 04/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: Exactly. No sane person would aspire to be a Teacher.

[6:38 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: aspire yes but once in the cycle aspire to leave hahahaha

[6:38 pm, 04/08/2021] +Ah Heng: same like our student nurse aspire to be, but once in the course and later OTJ aspire to leave

[6:40 pm, 04/08/2021] +REACH: 92 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases in Singapore, including 30 unlinked infections

[6:41 pm, 04/08/2021] +Joseph Ong: My observation is that nowadays, unlike during our time, most of the parents are probably at least as, if not more educated than the Teachers. Most are also older and more experienced than the Teacher. So, you have a situation where the Teachers usually defer to the parents in almost all matters.

[6:41 pm, 04/08/2021] +CQ: that MOE recruitment advertising slogan suddenly eludes me.... was it "architects of our future" or something like that?
